Satsumas are my favorite orange, and their peel is much like a Clementine, or Tangerine. I am sure they would be fine candied!

Is it possible to use less sugar? What about .5 (sugar) to 1 part water? I wanted to have candied fruit that is a little less sweet.

Lots of people have! It may not be as neat as whole slices but you can. Also, you could candy them whole and then slice them afterward!

Your blog link is just clickbait! Could not find the recipe. Also what did you add to the water before you put in the slices to make it orange? My grandnephew is allergic to all food dyes.
It looks like the link redirect had gone bad- if you search for the recipe title it should have popped up. However, link is updated now. I mean no hate but, I followed the recipie to perfection and they turned out super BITTER 🍋 (I used grapefruit and lime)
Did you boil the fruit first? The fruit or rinds need to be simmered for a while first till they soften and bitterness is reduced. Peel sometimes need to be repeated changing water twice.
