    This is great! When I hit super and type "scree", launcher selects Lock Screen instead of Screenshot. Now I can hide Lock Screen and use super-L to lock my machine (duh) and have quicker access to screenshots!

    I wonder why some Appimages can never be pinned, like Advance Wars by Web Replay Viewer. No matter what I use, it just either doesn't pin the app or it the pinned app doesn't launch

    There's also 'Desktop Files Creator', a much simpler GTK4 app, but PinApp definitely gives you more control.

      I use Main Menu, it also uses GTK4 and it's very intuitive!

    Wow, i love this super complex Gnome Apps, they are a sign of what is possible with this toolkit (that does not have any useable GUI builder or HTML widget)

      GTK is an old and mature toolkit (used to create apps like GIMP), what are you talking about??

    • @llothar68
      @llothar68 6 месяцев назад

      @@HoussamElbadissi I'm talking that the Gtk4 version is terrible and suffer so much from manpower and has many design flows. Gtk3 became useable at 3.16 but i'm not sure if 4.16 will have the same quality

      @@llothar68 I myself am developing some small apps with GTK4 (in Rust), and seeing the changes from GTK3, it seems to be moving in the right direction overall (besides, not much has changed around "how" stuff works in GTK). Oh and yeah it's a lot faster too (GPU!).
      As for the UI building story, the XML templating is still there, so I don't see what's missing. Glade? It's never been an official GTK project, and now Cambalache is here to fill the gap it left.
      We also have Blueprint, which is a breath of fresh air with nice syntax and more features compared to XML, and since it's decoupled from GTK it's growing pretty fast too.
      In the Rust world we also have Relm, a framework for GTK with macros to write UI, working in a similar fashion to Blueprint (except it generates regular Rust code that gets compiled), has some level of reactivity, and just nice ergonomics overall.
      Does that mean that GTK in general is the best toolkit? Far from it, but GTK4 in my opinion is doing really good compared to GTK3.
      Otherwise, I'm also an Android developer using Jetpack Compose (a modern Kotlin toolkit for Android and other platforms), and boy let me tell you that GTK is no match for that in terms of developer experience, and how easy is it to make complicated and very custom stuff with great performance.
