Yes! I actually search out vids/tutes like this, I am planning on buying a basket case and I'm hoarding all the knowledge
      I can...,
0 thank the bike gods for folks like Billy Lane here, I've done minimal wrenching on some triumphs & sporties
but that was so many years ago, now I'm rekindling my passion for bikes ...
There's a few good long detailed tires for bobbers + older iron Heads out there too
      ... Just gotta look !

Good find man! My cat does the same thing when I am wreching.. FL, FX, FLH Mid star was 67-72. 73 is the first year of the double dual bananna calipers front and rear and the introduction of double flange rear wheel for sprocket and disk. 73-74 is a single flange with deep dish front rotor. Star hub was 36-39 stepped, 40-57 minor changes but similar in design, "welding/brazing/recessed grease zerk", but fixing the dangerous prewar internals, big change was for Hydro rear brakes 58-66 star hub with the milled brake side mounting.

Dude Thankyou for making all of these videos! I have been watching your channel pretty religiously for the past couple of days trying to find tips, tricks, and idea on how to build a true chopper. There is not a whole lot to find on the Internet on how to build one from scratch for the first time and make it truly custom. I don’t want to be like everyone else that just has the same catalog parts on a generic chopper so please keep making videos.

In 1982 I bought a ‘70 FLH exactly like your ‘70, right down to the blue original paint. Really brought back memories. Reliving a lot watching this video too. I had that bike down to the frame so many times changing it around that I can still remember every nut and bolt on it. We did a video with my friend assembling it in time lapse in an early Easyriders video that I now have on my RUclips channel. Sadly, I was almost killed on it, when a schizophrenic ran me over on the way to work in ‘96. The frame was bent every which way, but Dr. John straightened it out for me near perfect. I put it back together with a beautiful candy blue paint job and sold it to Chica’s then business partner Don. It’s in Japan now. Enjoyed this video, thanks for the memories.

I got a 76 to and took all of the chrome junk off decades ago. Took off the seat and put solo seat on the frame. (Shakes the hell out of my kidneys after about 1 hour) . All those light bars they put on them were horrendously ugly. Next thing i want to do is put electronic ignition and do away with the unreliable points ignition. Goodluck with your build Martin. Peace brother.

Thanks Billy, the info that you share is really helpful, I've learned quite a bit from your explanations while you work on your bikes, keep up the good work and know you're definitely making a difference in passing on your knowledge and expertise

This video brings up some memories. I bought a '72 FLH for my bro from Daytona. It was a running bike and looked like a bit better than yours, but almost every mechanical part was worn out. My bro fixed the mechanical issues and rode over 6000 miles in first summer. Later he did a better rebuild for the bike and rode the crap out of the bike. That was 14 yrs ago and he still owns that bike. He has been thinking to make a somekind of restoration at some point. Its not a holy grail of all Harley-Davidsons, but a 50 year old Harley with a matching numbers frame and motor. If he ever decides to build a chopper, i think it will be some different bike.
    Cheers from Finland!

I'd watch this any time over anything, thank you. I'm trying to do the same to a 2001 deuce and this is inspirational. Thank you!

I have a 70 FL that I have stored for over 20 years. Coming across your video on the 72 was a complete turn on. Gave me lot of ideas. I am looking forward to your next video especially the belt drive primary. Thanks.

Damn I just found this channel. I remember all of the biker build off shows. Always liked your work and now I really appreciate how you are literally teaching all of us by sharing in great detail so much useful information. Shovel heads are by far my favorite bikes. If I didn’t have a wife I would probably have a dozen or more. Anyway thank you very much for the videos.

Dude you have the best motorcycle channel on RUclips ! I love how you go through the nuts and bolts of the bike, give history on the bike and the parts and it’s fun to watch what you build. Keep up the great work !!
