Dude that first kick was amazing, you don't need no electric leg when she starts that smooth
It’s all in the timing setup
Billy did she really go in one kick? And yes. Engine tuning is everything. No mater weather it’s a knuckle or pan. Or flatty
I love how a legend pays respect to another legend (Indian Larry). I remember watching you two together during Biker Build off. Larry was a master and so are you. Keep the great videos coming.
That's what Legends are made of. And agreed 💯
Thank you, Always in a state of awe around Larry, video coming next summer to commemorate the 20th anniversary of our Biker Build Off in Sturgis- it will be epic
@@BillyLaneChoppers You are most welcome. I look forward to that upcoming video.
I think it looks cool , but I like old bikes.
I remember that also
Very fun to watch. You sir are a great teacher and passing on your mechanical knowledge is a gift to the youth. I love teaching kids how to use tools and work on cars. I know exactly 0 about fixing a harley so I learn something every time you post
Possibly working on an arrangement with @northerntool where I go into high schools with vocational programs to teach students some of what I’ve learned
@@BillyLaneChoppers now that's how you keep Indian Larry's legend and yours going forever ........
He’s an engineer with the mechanical mindset and conveys information quite well
Great video with tons of good teaching. Billy is a legend in his own right.
BEUTY. IS IN THE EYE...OF THE BEHOLDER.......I DIG THAT BIKE.
Billy you are a good person for helping and showing others on what to do with a Harley Davidson.
*BILLY LANE MASTER MECHANIC. LEARNED SO MUCH IN THIS VIDEO. FANTASTIC VID DUDE!!*
So happy you dropped this video. Billy I personally wanted to say thanks man I've learned a ton from watching you. Can't wait till I get the opportunity to get a bike and use what I've learned from you.
So great to read, thanks for watching
His tutorials are always great!👍🏼
He inspired me to chase my dream and build a bike. Went back to school to learn to weld. Now that my kids are grown I can get back to chasing that dream.
He gets more in depth explaining stuff than my MMI instructors were.. Billy is such a great guy
Thx for the Video from a Shovelhead-Driver from Germany.
So glad you mentioned Indian Larry. I know you miss him like all of us. You're like a surgeon, a true craftsman. Just got to say great job and now she's purdy.
I think about Larry every day
Always a great day when I see a new video from Billy Lane in my recommended videos. I could literally watch him all day!!!
That bike sounds really good for not being run in all these years, just proves you really know what you're doing. You're also a really great teacher, a pleasure to watch.
My reaction to it’s start is genuine, I did not know what to expect. I bought it online, sight-unseen
I guess a little luck doesn't hurt either, lol. Great find and a great job getting it going, it's a real pleasure to watch someone who knows what they're doing.
Another Shovelhead Masterclass from Billy Lane, thank you!
Hello Kidder, I really like your profile Pics, and if you let me, I would make such an amazing mural out of it! 😎
Myself I prefer Phase 3 of America belt drives. Been running the same 2 inch since the 80s......Sray safe my brother 🙏
1st kick. I'm impressed.. you're still good at building bikes..
It’s all in the timing setup, assuming there are no air leaks & the carburetor is within range. I cringe when I see someone struggling to start a kickstart Harley-Davidson
Billy, our videos are by far the best, straight up and to the point informative in a clear and concise manner. I got me a 79 Fat Bob and kinda want to go back to semi stock but like what you have here, not pretty, looks well used but 100% functional, of course without all the hoo bobs like blinkers speedo just brakes and a low beam. I got it all rewired (that was fun)40 yrs of wire nuts and ten types of wire! I was pondering the open belt and watching this video made up my mind so thanks for that. Man if you had a video library to purchase on shovelheads I would buy it a New York minute!
The custom made tools are the best. Keep the videos comin brother!
Back when I had no money- and before easy internet access to everything- I made what I needed
@@BillyLaneChoppers same!
You are a damn fine teacher - schooled me well today on my 4 speed.
Thank you, those little things will make your 4-speed much more fun to ride
What a beast. 👍
Billy that is the worlds best looking shovelhead looks so good with that old naturally aged look, and starts first pop....
Love what you did to that bike, you have an amazing artistic gift. Watching you 20yrs ago I had no idea you would evolve into such a patient and gifted teacher. You also seem to be just a great guy, someone we'd all love to hang out with. Thanks for giving us that privilege. ✌️
Man, your words are kind. I think a lot of the patience you see was there twenty years ago, but it didn’t manifest because I was working with Discovery Channel. I did not have a good relationship with them back then, and it made my life simultaneously better and more difficult. RUclips has allowed me to be myself in my own time & way. Thank you for being here, and for your gracious words
I don't know of anything else that compares to that feeling of first starting up a motorcycle you just built! Thanks Billy.
It’s pretty hard to beat that feeling
Billy, you are a natural! When I watch your video's, it's feels as though you are talking directly to me. Keep teaching, guys like you are getting scarce.
Wicked tutorials. No BS,or false bravado. Thank you, learned a lot watching you work
The spark at 1:16. I thought I was seeing things!
Back in the day if you need to get something done. It was easy to just make the tool then to try and find one. 👍👍
It really was!
@BillyLaneChoppers I know that feeling when You're expecting to kick forever but then suddenly she fires right away! I had the same smile you did which was hilarious.
Awesome video. I love your narrative as you do your work; very thorough and extremely helpful. I really appreciate your love for the Harley and your ideas about preserving the "look" and suggestion about using actual vintage parts rather than after market knock-offs.
Thanks for the motivation! This makes me want to park my evo and twincam and work on getting get my old shovel running. That great feeling of an old bike firing to life after sitting many years was obvious by your instant grin. 🙂 Excellent video again.
And since it’s in my living room next to my old Indian, I really don’t have an excuse. I think these videos fire a lot of people up and remind us, especially now, that playing with our bikes is a great way to escape the rest of the world. Well, it is for me anyway ;)
Awesome job billy bro , from the chopper boys of the south wales coal mining valleys south wales 🤙🏼🐾👻
I’d love to ride there….during the summer season
Humble smart and respectful so glad you are up on your feet billy been watching you for a long time
Don't know if you missed it but there's a video of Billy, Kendall Johnson and Larry's guys building the Indian Larry tribute bike. A true story of brotherhood! Really worth the watching!
Billy Knows His Sh&T 🔥
After 35 years, I’ve learned something. Thank you
@@BillyLaneChoppers Been watching you Kick Ass Since Biker Build Off 🔥🔥 Stay On It Billy - Great Stuff 😊
I’ve never ridden a motorcycle in my life. I owned a Rm 125 for a year and it was fun in the desert but I almost died a few times. Anyway I really dig watching a guy who knows what he’s doing. Keep filming bro I’ll keep watching 🤙🏻
Thanks for watching. Give it a try sometime, I can’t imagine living without it
Inspiration knowledge getting it done with your hands!!!!Go Billy!💪
As I was watching your video I wondered about not running a bearing support. But then I noticed you work just like me. Always getting ahead of my self 🙈.
Good times. Great vid. Thanks Billy
Great mechanic. They don’t make them like this anymore
I gotta say that after watching you do this shovel I have the utmost respect for you. Never payed much attention to most builds cause they're not really my style but I absolutely love what you did to the ugliest shovelhead!
Another bad ass bike from the legend himself BILLY LANE
Redneck ?
Your knowledge is priceless, thanks for sharing it with us. ✌️❤️
Love the shop kitty - watched all three parts and wow, first kick!! Bike looks amazing. Aging paint with fire was a little scary that it would melt your wire insulation or anything rubber, but the results looked great. If you ever consider doing a biography, or book on your builds, let me know. I like the tribute to Indian Larry (very nice tribute). Anyhow, keep well and keep the rubber side down.
The look on your face when she starts up first kick
your video makes me want to start my own FLH project, thank you Billy, you are a true legend
JUST SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK IN ACTION GREAT SEEING YOU AGAIN LOVED ALL YOUR BUILDS
Thank You Billy, again another great video, learn a lot from you man, thank you for sharing, everyday is a school day, and the opportunity to learn from you is awesome.... Love the Indian Larry touch too. Huge respect dude 👍👊
Totally enjoyed going down memory lane there with the shovel.... Cheers.👍
This is the most informative video I have ever seen! I really enjoy the tips you shared from wrenching over the years! You are a Master Craftsman of the trade Mr. Lane! Cool mention of Indian Larry.
Nice compliment, thank you. I’m glad you are enjoying this.
Iam68yrs and have watched you and Larry a long time. Putting Indian Larrys name on your primary was a nice move. I know you were close. Love that your back! ❤ youve always been a great builder and teacher. I have a 76' shovel just like that one. Thanks Billy!
You’re 15 years older than me, thanks for being here. Ride that Shovel as much as you can!
"Shop teacher Billy". Always helping the backyard mechanics.Thank you from all of us, young and old. Aloha brother.
Lovely old bike mate full of character.
Billy Lane is just to put it plainly... freaking Awesome! This guy has overcome so much. And is a strong person. Amazing talent! I love watching this content.
@Hannah 🥰 The U.S. I lived in Texas, Maryland, Georgia, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Maine. Did my time in Iraq. I'm probably missing a few states in the U.S.? Matter of fact I am. I lived in Florida for a few years.
@@HannahRoot55 May I ask? Where are you from?
I don't have any social media sites. I'm not on social media. Too much b.s. if you know what I mean. I come here to Watch Billy Lane, Insane Throttle, Black Dragon, Sose, Danny D Low.
@@HannahRoot55 it's nice to meet you... Northern or Southern Indiana?
@Hannah 🥰 it better or I'd throw it in the Delaware River!!! LOL!
I love the way you explain things. I've got a 1977 FXE been sitting in the garage for over 20 years and I think you have inspired me to get it going again.
Jeff
I always learn something on this channel! Thanks for sharing your knowledge Billy!
Another legendary one Mr Lane. Looks amazing. He loved you back too homie. That biker build off trophy will never be forgotten
Always love stopping by the shop, have a blessed week my friend.
Badd ass 100% BILLY LANE 4ife,RIP Indian Larry
not only is he the coolest baddest biker ever . he also explains mechanics and engineering aswell so you actually learn something too .love this channel billy and larry are legends
Hello, I really like your profile Pics, and if you let me, I would make such an amazing mural out of it! 😎
don't go changing bro, you are the shit!!your vids are outstanding!!
thank you Billy great video the bike turned out awsome
Hey there, I’m 20 and am currently rebuilding my dads old 69 xlch for him as a present. He just turned 60 and I grew up watching biker build off with him, and hearing about you and Indian Larry when I was still in diapers. Love the content
You are a natural born teacher.
I've been waiting for this for weeks....I love your videos I've watched them over and over. I ain't the type to get star struck but one day I'd like to meet Billy and check out the shop and the bikes.....keep the videos coming !!!!!
That belt drive looks great!
Love that you’re wearing a 30k Rolex red sub workin on an old shovelhead 👍
That'll be a fun ride! Nice work
Thank you, it is a very fun ride with a great exhaust note
Did brought me back in time. Love how you fixed that shovel. Could be mine.
Enjoyed every second of this! Really appreciate the in depth explanations you give and the things I learn watching your videos. Got me wanting to get my badboy out for a ride today. Enjoy your weekend brotha!
Billy Lane one Great mechanic. They don’t make them like this anymore I love watching your video you always learn something
Thank you, I enjoy sharing here
Another GREAT video. I can relate to these old bikes as I still have my first original 1980 HD Shovelhead FLH King of the Highway. Also have a Street glide that's nice to ride. Keep the videos coming! Many thanks
It was probably out of time whenever they parked it I could see someone getting super frustrated after they rebuilt it and jacked up the timing with no clue. Amazing for real
Good old fashioned German Torque specs. Gooden tight. I use it alot on my projects.🤙🏼
Great job 👍👍
Good videos man you do a good job explaining things even though you've done the job hundreds of times and seems simple to you
Billy is a legend love watching .have a 74 shovelhead the video has given me some ideas for what I want to build keep riding.
RIP Indian Larry. He will always be remembered and greatly missed. Wonderful work on this beast Billy! Glad to see you steadily pumping out kickass content!!!👍👍💪💪✌️
Appreciate you man. Between you and Pacific Mike I am learning things to keep me going, thank you so much 👊
Mr Billy lane ,glad you are back doing what you love man, my first motorcycle magazine you where in first page with the no spoke wheel, from there I was building my 1st custom bike with a S&S 116 which I never finished( live changes when kids born and go to college) good luck and hope the best man!
Great video and I for one would enjoy more tech videos like this for the older bikes. Thanks.
Don’t know if you played us or not but if that thing really started on the first kick, you deserve a medal!
Redwine
YOU TOP DAWG BILLY, ALWAYS GREAT TO WATCH THE WORK YOU DO AND HOW GOOD YOU ARE AT EXPLAINING WHAT YOUR DOING 👊🏼👊🏼 W / R 😎
I love your videos. I love most your personality and how mellow and personable you seem to be. You're videos are very helpful and they have given me some ideas. I have a 78 FLH that has been very abused, Its a bike I picked up for 4k. I'm putting a Paughco Springer on, hinged fender and because of this series I decided that instead of a Tombstone tail light I want the same rear light set up as "The Worlds Ugliest Shovelhead". I also have a 78 chopper I picked up for 3k. It has a ton of issues. Because of your video I think I'll pull the primary and go totally open like you did. The bike kicks back at me, but now I know to check the intake O-rings and I can adjust the timing. I have 6 bikes total. I'm in Washington where we get a lot of rain and snow, but I use heated gear and ride year round. I ride in the Christian Motorcyclists Association, and I ride nearly every day. God Bless you.
That shit-eatin` grin when the bike one kicked was priceless. LMFAO. Billy...thanx for sharing.
I really like these videos. You seem to be "at peace". It all looks easy when you do it and the outcome is so good. Thank you.
These videos are great! I'm glad to see your doing good. The manifold O-ring tip and the bungee on the brake pedal were great advice.
Billy, much respect for you brother, you are the OG of the scooter world. Still watching!
Man thanks that’s one hell of a tutorial. Appreciate that man
Glad you think so, thank you for watching
iv just bought my first shovelhead and shes 50 yars old .think my clutch needs doing but hey ho it goes with the flow.great videos ,keep em coming and salut from the uk.👌👍
Love watchin your lessons .. best schooling I've ever received thank you.
Nice, thanks for taking the time to do the tutorial.
Love your straight to the point, get sh!t done attitude & content associated, Billy.
Thank you, I try to make it understandable & thorough, but brief & simple
Hasn't ran in 30 years. that one kick over got me excited as well. That was awesome . Thanks for sharing the experience .
Thank you for doing this RUclips channel. I watched all of the bikerbuild offs, motorcycle mania. That joke of a bike show American chopper I watched maybe the first 3 shows and turned it off. The channel you’ve made is actually what discovery channel should’ve done but when you try to make a chopper/custom show with Walt Disney I guess American chopper made sense. Goin watch every video you make. Love the channel. Watch it on my big screen tv. Thanks again for the channel.
Mr Lane, im an old motorcycle fella, 67 yrs old. My Pops started me out on a harley at 13yrs old and as i grew so did my scooters. I was never a fortunate man, just a working man since 15yrs old. I write to you just to say...i heard about you and Indian Larry thru easyriders bak in the day, i watched you on biker build off. I see you now. You're a clever, cool man with a righteous style. I enjoy your videos. Thank you.
BigNick
Turned out really nice and the shovelhead is my all-time favorite Harley motor looks wise
Damn I love the way a shovel head sounds! Best sounding motor to me from Harley- Davidson to date ! I want one and I’m a try to get one ! I got a 21 year old twin cam that needs a shovel head beside it ! That kind right there is the kind I want to !
I loved Indian Larry's giggle
when I went from a 1 1/2" closed belt to an open 2" it drove me nuts. I couldnt adjust anything else to keep that clutch from draggin me in 1st gear ( years before youtube!). I parked it, got another shovel, traded to a TC88 and the old shovel sat for 10 or more years until I happened on Pacific Mike channel. I searched his site for old clutch videos and the comments section described the same problem with my shovel draggin clutch. The fix Mike described was to drill out the plates 1/64 (25/64) over the factory 3/8". BINGO! Once I had that clutch problem solved I dove back into the shovel(73 Super Glide) with new energy. I been riding it bobbed ever since, good to go.
Tdmn 👋
soon as i saw the kitty cat walk by, i knew i wanted to build custom bikes :)
Hell yeah man, the bike turned out sick! Thanks for all the knowledge you share, the tips and tricks are awesome.
I appreciate how you go into such great detail on even the little things and don't talk down to us who aren't as good a wrench as you. THanks!
I like the way you explain this every one else I've been around they loved to scream and holler up to a point they could tell by my look that I was getting a little bit angry. Thanks Billy but I imagine you have scream a few times we all have. But this is great.
That was a great class Billy. Congrats on the successful one kick start! Awesome job.
