    Great video Cory, that should sort your compression out and the water jacket cleaning has hopefully sorted out the hotspots. Standing by for the next instalment, thank you Sir!

      Thank you Sir!! So much dirt and grim built up inside!! I agree, she’s cleaned out now. Only concern Is the top ring isn’t plated. But should definitely be better.

    The rings that you took off would have lost some of their tension, thereby giving a smaller gap. I would imagine that the gap when new would have been similar to that of the new rings.

    Cory.. I have crankcase pressure and have my cylinder head off right now investigating (Series 2A, 2.25 Petrol).. my pistons are stamped B, A, A, A. I understand these are grades of slight oversize. Looking at honing and new pistons and rings.. I don't know if I can get these graded pistons as new replacements, so I'm concerned new std size pistons would actually be smaller. Were any of your old pistons stamped with a grade letter like this?

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  2 года назад

      Thank you for watching! My pistons were marked with +.010 over. So I ordered .010 over pistons. It sounds like yours are definitely some size over STD. Do the pistons have a company name stamped on them? Than you could look up their alpha codes for piston sizes. It’s kind of weird to 3 size and 1 odd size but you never know what people do to their engines. Let me know what you find out.

    How do you know what tolerance the new bearings are? I'm going through this with a 1600 engine and there's quite a few different rod bearing tolerances you can order.

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  Год назад

      Thank you for watching. I do not take any measurements. The bearings said standard on them. So I ordered standard and put them in. The wear was minimal so I wasn’t concerned.

    Awesome video Cory!What’s the groove on the bottom of the pistons n for?

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  2 года назад

      Thank you Sir!! I think that’s an oil ring to help spread oil to the piston. I’m not 100% sure.

      @@conrad1468 I thought there was another piston ring going in there!

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  2 года назад

      @@graemelliott3942 it is big enough for another ring. I would think an oil ring more than an compression ring. Maybe they added a ring for other markets or industrial reasons?!?! Could be a good subject to Google and find out about. 😀

    How was the condition of your Crank Cory when you did this rebuild? Im just starting rebuilding my 2.25L Diesel and my Crank is quite worn. It looks like new ones are no longer available through Turner Engineering and the existing one cant be ground undersize 🥺

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for watching! I did not pull my crank main bearings. I only took off the connecting rods and replaced the con bearings. The connecting rod surfaces looked pretty good. So I would assume the mains are OK. Has your crank already been ground down? Maybe you get get away with just a polish of the crank. Most machine shops can do that and local engine builders.

    • @nickwalker147
      @nickwalker147 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@conrad1468 Turner Engineering explained that the crank can be re-ground if done properly and radiused properly. My con-rod bearings were a mixed bag, but my mains are all right down to the copper backing and 1 and 2 main journals very badly worn. I have yet to take the crank to the machine shop to get their take, but hoping they'll tell me it only needs minimal regrinding

    • @conrad1468
      @conrad1468  7 месяцев назад

      @@nickwalker147 sounds like the engine must have tons of miles on it. Or low oil pressure. Hope they can grind the crank with minimal amount. Good luck!

      @@conrad1468 When I first brought it, it had a main bearing knock, but being young and inexperienced back then, I was told by a mechanic 'its a bad injector they make that noise' which as it turned out was completely incorrect and the noise was excessive bearing clearance. This is the first time I've had the engine apart
