Freaking disgrace that PS5 controllers dont last a year. This is supposed to be the best? My Ps3 controllers still work excellent. Ps4 has drift but AFTER 3 years. This PS5 lasted months. PS6 controllers will last weeks I guess lol
There was a PS5 system update about a month ago and immediately after installing that update both my PS5 controllers suffered from stick drift where as before the update they did not. Furthermore both my PS5 controllers have had very little use because I use PSRemote Play 95% of the time w/ a DS4 controller. I discovered the issue as I always use a PS5 controller to start my PS5. I also noticed all these vids and posts about PS5 stick drift started to pop up about a week later after that update. I strongly believe its a system software issue and not a direct controller issue.
One thing I'd recommend is trying to clean the stick with a q tip and some oil or isopropyl alcohol. I cleaned my PS4 controller sticks that way and they improved significantly.
Lifting the analogue stick up and down fixed mine. I wasn't expecting it to work at all but no issues 2 hours later. My drift was intermittent so it happened 30% of the time when pushing left, wasnt as bad as most people are having it.
The potentiometer controlling the inputs for the Y axis on my controller was ruined in the left direction, and I suspect it eroded due to wear and tear. The fact that this technology is STILL being used is astonishing. Either I have to disassemble this thing myself and completely repair the potentiometer causing the issue, or I waste 70 bucks on a new controller. At this rate, they might as well push for all their current and last gen games to have keyboard and mouse accessibility considering their own accessories are prone to wear out after less than half the year. This is not only a bad business model on Sony's part, but just an overall proper pain in the ass.
Totalmente de acuerdo, es una basura 🗑 llevo tres controles dañados en 2 años uno no duro ni 3 meses, de niño con el control de ps1 jamas tuve que comprar uno nuevo y mira que el pobre quedo destrozado de tantas caídas.
I definitely would say don't lift up and wiggle the stick. I use control freeks often and have to put them on and take them off and every time I take them off it pulls the stick out and up, from experience this is was causes more stick drift
Less than 50 hours on mine since launch because I prefer back compat games that allow dualshock4 w back buttons. What’s crazy is upset I’ve been with Xbox 1 controllers drifting but that’s after hundreds of hours of use. This stupid turd didn’t even make 50 hours. All that amazing tech inside dualsense ruined because of a garbage quality 25 cent part. Hope my warranty return goes well. #very-disappointed
Get a protective case for your controllers so when not in use you can put them in there and keep dust off. 90% of all stick drift is cause by dust/dirt falling into the controller from the the analog stick. When dust gets into the grease on the sensors it can cause controller drift. Yes there are other things that can cause it as well. I made custom cases for my ps5 controllers to house them when not in use. Since then I have never suffered from controller drift. You can also simply lay a microfiber cloth over your controllers when not in use, they are light weight and wont cause pull to the analogs and will keep dust and moisture out of your controllers.
Yeah, keep your house clean, dust, mop, it's for all your electronics. Some dust particles actually contain conductive particles and can even carry static charges. Dust is the single biggest and most avoidable cause of death to household electronics.
@@servant_mellowVT I dont see why that would not work as long as it's a large ziplock, you dont want to use a small one as it may cause pressure on the analogs and off set one if not both.
Out of all 4 DualShock 4 controllers I bought since launch only one of them started to drift for me after 2 years of playing with it and the drift is not that bad either lol. You must not know how to take care of ur shit
It's a real shame. I've had my ps5 for 3 months and have just had the same issue develop recently. I do hope they bring out a newer model controller with more stability
Several people I know, myself included, have multiple Dual sense controllers and don't have this issue. It helps if you avoid throwing your controller across the room in a rage.
Sony never had this issue before with any of there controllers and they all except for the original ps1 have had joy sticks . I’m sure a quick fix is incoming .
"You can still play your ps5 games without having to wait to get it back" -PSwhat games? Never saw anything called ps5 in stores. I'm playing PC games with it.
I still believe the PS3 controller was the best of the consoles I have owned; no drift, triggers still do not stick, and the original rubber on the thumb sticks.
ATTENTION EVERYONE! this issue has been around since PS2! sony recommends you simply rotate the right joystick in a clockwise motion and the left joystick in an anti clockwise motion all around atleast twice! thats all you have to do and it will be normal. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAMPER WITH THE INTERNAL HARDWARE. you are welcome.
I kinda have that problem with my Xbox one pc controller (not original though) and it sucks so when I go right or left with the joystick its goes up and down most of the time and it's annoying, especially in the menu games...
There is one more fix suggested by another RUclipsr that has worked for me. Point your joystick firmly (not too strongly though) upward, to the right, downward and to the left consecutively. Each time you do that, click/press on it firmly as well. That supposingly will recenter the sensors system underneath. Again, it has fixed it for me for now.
I didn't have any issues with drift, but one of my controllers, the one that came with the console, suddenly became weird. In Demons Souls, when you move the analog stick to make the character run, it randomly switches between walking and running, as if you're not pressing far enough. I tried everything, including reseting the controller. What kinda solved it was when I tried blowing the analog stick, making sure the air gets inside. It partially solves the problem, but still the character stops running randomly, even though less frequently. And before anyone says it, my house is completely clean and I keep my controllers in a drawer so they won't get dust.
@@Sumea_Saukko Bro, I have an Xbox One controller and my left stick started to drift two weeks ago. I think it's a common problem from Xbox and PlayStation. I really Hope that you don't have this issue because it's so frustrating
I had this after 3 fucking days. Ridiculous. The online store I got it from here in the UK can't replace it and redirects me to Sony. Sony wants me to buy a box and pay for shipping for them to "have a look at it" and then decide what to do. Can take weeks from what I read. I was furious I'd have no controller. I was fed up and had already thought about a second controller anyway. Ended up getting a black controller. It's sick. No issues after a week. I'll send the other one this week. It'll only get worse and for now I get a free replacement. I'll take advantage of that and pay the stupid shipping
I think this hasn't been brought up anywhere but I've noticed this after a few weeks of having it and getting a second controller. There seems to be an issue with PS4 titles over PS5 ones. GTA requires me to turn the deadzone to max on both sticks in order for it to be normal. On PS4 I would put it at half if my controller had drift. Later I turned it down. It seems to read the sticks down to every tiny movement. No deadzone. It's weird.
There are 2 types of control drift. How you said people have told you pulling analog stick in and out is usually control drift caused by dirt or something sticky inside your controller. The other control drift I call control lag bc it's your controller and your system struggling to get information to each other. That's why it's good not to have your ps5 or ps4 out of sight of your control or like covered up. Definitely like these helpful great ways you have in this video.
Have had a series x 4 a year and this year got the ps5 and I'm already having this problem 🙄 on mw2 I'm aiming and it Jerks right or spins when I'm not even pushing that direction is that basically drift ??
Some of it may just be the dead zone and slight movement of fingers barely pressing it or just gravity and wind making it slightly move in a way barely visible to the naked eye, my controller is fine but I was one of the suckers who bought cyber punk and I noticed the thumbstick dead zones were very sensitive in that game and me pressing on the stick slightly without moving it from it's default position would register as movement, so if it's possible in system settings anywhere (never looked since controller is fine in other games since it's a dead zone problem with mine) try turning up the dead zone for how far you need to move the stick from the default position a bit and it might help. Sorry for how weird the explanation is, thumb stick dead zones are hard to explain sorta. EDIT: noticed another guy in comments calling the setting I was talking about for games is input threshold apparently, credit to Nyel Ansari since his comment was talking about basically the same feature in COD that I had to adjust in cyberpunk, basically any movement small as moving the stick not even a millimeter is registered by the controller always but most games are programed to ignore those minor movements because it seems obvious a person wouldn't be trying to precisely move a stick like that in a game but some devs don't program the game to ignore that so it registers your thumbs barely resting on the sticks as movement sometimes sorta like those weird nub mouses you see on old laptops as a alternative to the trackpad, but yeah check the settings of your games if you notice the controller working in other games fine but not on some specific games as they might not have bothered to ignore those inputs so they probably "solved it" by adding input thresholds in the settings.
I can confirm this as well I was playing call of duty last week and felt a drift I rested the remotes and everything’s works fine... but I still went ahead and bought a new one lol I love my ps5!!
Dreamcast controller used a Hall effect sensor in the joysticks, so there's no wear and tear. They were also very very precise. Every controller after it is worse than the Dreamcast controller.
I still can’t believe sony hasn’t solved this issue. I’ve never had this problem with my xbox honestly.. But my playstation on the other hand still has this issue and i’m pissed…
Luckily stick drift is a very easy fix. Usually in most cases all you need is a new analog stick, worst case you replace a part (resolder a new part) to the bottom have of the analog sticks thingy I forgot the name of it, it's usually a very easy fix. Best case scenario all you need to do clean the along stick with some rubbing alcohol and a few cotton swabs and a toothbrush. Then lubricate the bottom portion with some WD40 (WD40 won't fuck with your electronics since it isn't conductive) then just using rubbing alcohol to clean the excess portions of the WD40 so your controller isn't all oily and gross. Let it sit for about 10 minutes then try again, if it didn't fix the stick drift then replace the analog stick and try again, if it's the same issue.. watch TronicsFix, fix a PS5 DualSense controller's analog stick, and repeat what he did OR just buy a new controller and practice better gaming habits, don't eat and play games, clean your peripherals once a week with rubbing alcohol and if you see a dust or food debri, etc in the analog, clean it ASAP. Though in most scenarios stick drift is a mechanical failure of the controller itself. I cleaned my PS4 controller sticks that way and they improved significantly.
Yes clean
oil NO grease NO
a plumbers silicone spray is best as makes it slick/silky not sticky
as oil/grease will just encourage dirt to collect
@@mabisfab77paintball I used light baby oil and worked fine. Cleaning alco would probably be optimal tho
Nintendo: joy con drift
Sony:A write that down
Write that down
send it back to Sony so they can charge you more money, keep it for ages and blame covid for the delays.
It might seem bad, but it all for money. No one wants to make a product that never breaks, because people won't come back to keep buying your things.

You’re not missing out on much
If you have a ps4 pro then theres not a huge difference.
My launch controller developed stick drift on the right stick, and my replacement developed a loose R2 within a few weeks. So not happy.
I'm currently doing this. I cover the controller every time I don't play. Let's hope it will last long
@@VintageGameRoom
I've had no issues with mine since I've done it.
Yeah, keep your house clean, dust, mop, it's for all your electronics. Some dust particles actually contain conductive particles and can even carry static charges. Dust is the single biggest and most avoidable cause of death to household electronics.
@@theyframedme would putting the controller in a plastic clear ziplock bag, and then zipped up, when not in use, be an alternative?
@@servant_mellowVT
I dont see why that would not work as long as it's a large ziplock, you dont want to use a small one as it may cause pressure on the analogs and off set one if not both.
It's always good 👍🏿 to buy a 2nd controller. Cuts down on the wear and tear with just having 1.
You can always order a new controller from Amazon and returning the broken one.

3:00 it works, but u have to do this atleast once every game session.
I rotate the analog stick and sometimes it’s stop the drifting a quite a bet. I’ll try to do your way.
I still believe the PS3 controller was the best of the consoles I have owned; no drift, triggers still do not stick, and the original rubber on the thumb sticks.
That's interesting, of all the generations I've owned the ps3 had the most drift for me
PS3 was known as the cheapest controller lol, glad yours was fine though
Ps3 controllers were some tanks
@@maxmaximum8714 That's what I think as well, although I've had a couple of replies that don't share that same opinion.
My multiple ps3 controllers would like a word with you.
I kinda have that problem with my Xbox one pc controller (not original though) and it sucks
so when I go right or left with the joystick its goes up and down most of the time and it's annoying, especially in the menu games...
Awww man that sucks but thank you for the information
people acting like stick drift is a new issue, i literally bought a new dualshock 4 every 3rd month

Keep your controllers in a drawer to prevent it from collecting dust.
The dust gets inside and caused stick drift.
Better yet don't buy a controller
Have had a series x 4 a year and this year got the ps5 and I'm already having this problem 🙄 on mw2 I'm aiming and it Jerks right or spins when I'm not even pushing that direction is that basically drift ??
I feel like ever since cyberpunk 2077 did a random update that my R3 button has not worked
Do these controllers use potentiometers instead of hall effect sensors?
Stick drift isn’t much of a concern to me, I play CoD on the lowest deadzone possible lol
I still can’t believe sony hasn’t solved this issue. I’ve never had this problem with my xbox honestly.. But my playstation on the other hand still has this issue and i’m pissed…
Thank you.

Here's a video that better explains it:
ruclips.net/video/Ujd16S-9Dig/видео.html - Basic fix

I got my PS5 on Dec. 28th 2020 and by March 2021 the controller that came with my PS5 was drifting. Haven’t used it since, just bought a black one and recently a purple one. I used my Xbox360 controllers for 10 years and never had problems like this. Super annoying that modern controllers are so poorly built.
PS5 controller has the WORST quality remote. I take great care of my controllers and I have had 3 of them have stuck drift, and another one had a broken trigger button. It was horrible and disappointing that I have spent $140 on remotes within 2 years
