I will say I had a bit of bother with the microphone ribbon and couldn’t work out how to reattach the rubber part which came off for me but I don’t use it anyway so not particularly bothered.
Thanks. Wow. I truly appreciate how you presented the video of least pain to most pain. I had no idea about the reset hole on this particular device. I appreciate that you mentioned it was a long shot, BUT IT WORKED!!! Thank you. Seriously. Fair enough that I am a moron, and you essentially told me to, "turn it off and then turn it back on", but I was not aware of HOW to do that. Thank you. Thank you so much! This is an outstanding tutorial. Covered all areas and with fair and honest warning about risks. I got on perfectly and tested it out last night... 100% fixed! I'll happily do it again when needed. That box with doors is SO SMALL though. Had to put my old man reading glasses on and was still a challenge. The right tools makes a big difference. Update: After 2 weeks the stick drift was back. I then double checked and it WAS still in warranty! So I sent it in to Sony. They replaced it and didn't mention me opening it up. Just be aware. If you do send back to Sony. Their tracking on repairs doesn't work. I got the controller back within 2 weeks but it still says they're waiting for me to return it. Typical Sony. I would try this again though. Especially if definitely put of warranty. Thanks
Greetings from Brasil my pal! I have to thank you a lot because of your very well explained guide, I was able to fix my left drifting joystick. Method 7 worked for me. Thank you very much for it!!!
On my left thumbstick if you push the stick at a certain angle (like 2 O clock) my character would stop moving briefly. Was worried there was something wrong with the wiring. Step number 4 fixed it lol thanks so much for this tip!
I had to reach all the way to Method 7 before the issue finally got fixed! Idk why but I apparantly had some mysterious black gunk on the contacts inside the door. Snapping that door into place almost gave me a heart attack but the drift has pretty much disappeared! Thanks for an amazing video! Edit: I had to sacrifice a guitar pick for the cleaning job but it was worth it!
Godsend man. My god of war controller has had horrendous drift and was driving me insane. Cannot find one for under 200 bucks either. Did this video and opened it all the way for a thorough cleaning..no more left stick drift. That shit was driving me fkn mad
I have cleaned as instructed, thank you by the way. My right joystick moves freely in all directions except up (when apart) down when assembled. I cant find any videos on this issue. I used q tip with alcohol to clean the stem and in and around the base but that did not work. any advice.
Was having problems turning with the right stick, luckily only had to remove the black strip and blow out the debris to get it working again. Thanks for the instructions.

This helped me HEAPS. To be honest. I do not understand how or why the stick drift happened.. and even more so.. I don't understand how the method even worked. Haha. I reached up to Step 3. But I'll bookmark this video for future reference. Keep up the good work, man
Thank you so much! Method 7 worked for me. My right stick drift was so severe that it looked like someone was actually pushing it up all the way violently. The tutorial was very helpful. The only trouble I had was to take out and putting back the upper ribbon cable.
wow the blow air worked alot of people said do a air pressurizer even tho theres none in my country and only for cleaners thanks alot from the deepest of my heart
Doing method 6 + 7 just made my stick drift worst EDIT: Fixed my issue thanks to the comments in YourSixStudios video. When taking out the small white pieces with metal inside the analog - make sure the tiny wires are fanned out away from the white plastic housing. If they are too close it will cause max shift drift which in my case made my R3 look in one direction only.
Method 6 was the one for me, was happening alot at my ps4 controller that hairs and debry caused a drift, I was sure this one will fix the drift issue at the ps5 one as well. Thanks alot, you saved my weekend !
Thankyou for going slow on taking the controller apart I had three controllers that had stick drift, I cleaned all three with electronic alcohol, electronic cleaner and a dry cloth to clean up the liquid then used canned air to blow out access liquid then put the controller back together and tested and all 3 work like new now. 😎😎👍🏾👍🏾
My dualsense started drifting the day after I fixed my first joy con. I was super stressed doing the whole process but once I took off the thumb caps I noticed the problem: dog hair had gotten in there somehow. Took it out, closed it up surprisingly easy, considering how hard it was to open, and the problem was fixed immediately. Not sure what happened this generation that thumbsticks keep drifting. I had my dualshock 2 and 3 for years and years, banged up so much you could hear them rattle if you shook them, but drift was never an issue. My ds3s thumbsticks are even so loose so they spin freely if you rotate them but they absolutely do not drift
Great video, it was pretty scary to take the controller apart, one thing I found that helps is to use tweezers to remove the ribbon cables. Also something I didn't realize is that the microphone (and some other cable), with the square rubber housing does not plug in on both sides (which confused me a lot), they go in the casing of the controller, so don't worry about them like I did.
Thanks for this. I spilt a glass of red wine on my controller and ended up with horredus drift. After going in for a deep clean following along with the video it is saved!
I used the info in this video to strip down and fix a problem where the analogue stick would snap all the way to the left when pushing right. It worked like a treat, although I had to open the potentiometer a few times to clean out all the crap. The section starting at 10:55:00 was the solution.
Picture..... I've been playing VIDEO GAMES since "1979" and seen a HUGE library of titles. Doing the 8th one really worked for me as I had dropped my controller off my bunk bed and couldn't move to the right thank you
Cool. I did not realize the suggestions in the video could help in that situation.
@@HowToX neither did I. I couldn't find anything online and it just started working again
Excellent video, I had to do full disassembly to fix/clean the left stick. Worked great. Used compressed air and drops if white vinegar.
Method 7 fixed 2 of my controllers. Thank you! Not sure how long it will last, but better than nothing at the moment!!
Can’t really believe this, but method 4 actually worked. Congrats for the video!
And the only cost was air!
Fantastic video thank you for being clear and explaining each step while dismantling the controller. Helped me fix a squeaky thumb stick.
Thank you.
If it seems like I am being sarcastic or facetious, I am not. I am grateful to you for putting forth an attempt to help rather than hurt. IT WORKED! HUZZAH!!
Best video to fix the problem bro thank you honestly 💯 love how you gave different options to fix the controller and showed it in detail thank you saved me 70 dollars my brother
Thank you for the detailed description in your video. Cleaning using a vacuum after removing the black cover as described worked for me. No more stick drift for now.
you do not know how much this means to me i would have gone crazy, thank you
Glad it helped!
Thanks man the Strow tip saved me 8 bucks and a trip to Walmart
Thanks man, had to go all the way to method 7, contact pad was filthy!
Cool. I think some of the plastic flakes off and gets in there, and also dirt from the factory.
STEP 6 AND 7 WORKED FOR ME ON MY OLD CONTROLLER, TOMORROW I'LL DO THE 'NEW' (6 MONTHS OLD) ONE AS IT'S SEVERELY DRIFTING
I had to take it apart all the way and clean the contacts, WORKED THOUGH! Thanks
I really like your voice too if I'm honest. Reminds me of a famous actor but can't figure out who. Makes for easy listening.
Have a great day. Liked and subscribed ❤
Interesting!
Love the Nintendo music in the background - reminds me of playing one of those insanely difficult Nintendo bosses
Thanks. As I did not had a straw, I made one using a post it note. This method worked for me
Thanks! The left stick drifted some fierce. One of the disks had gotten mangled. I bent it back into shape and voila, perfecto.
Ended up working my way up to method 6 and my controller works better than ever. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this I had to fix my right stick and now it works perfectly.
You're welcome!
Hello friend, my remote had a lot of dirt on its potentiometers! I'm a careful guy with my controls. I think what you say about dirt in production is something to take into account! thanks to this video my command does not suffer from dreeft 😎
Have not tried yet.. But by far the best video on this problem. thanks
Commenting for the algorithm. I had to take mine apart, method 6 seems to have resolved my issue.
Thanks for the video!
Thanks a lot, i didnt think it would help but blowing directly inside the stick helped to fixxed the drift.
I was very close to just buy a new one
Bro I had like 5 controller they all have same problem but when I use alcohol now they’re good trust me on this. thank you man.
Doing method 6 + 7 just made my stick drift worst
EDIT: Fixed my issue thanks to the comments in YourSixStudios video. When taking out the small white pieces with metal inside the analog - make sure the tiny wires are fanned out away from the white plastic housing. If they are too close it will cause max shift drift which in my case made my R3 look in one direction only.
First time taking apart a controller a couple scratches but besides that it turned out well and the drift is gone thanks so much ❤❤❤
Holy crap I tried method 4 and it worked like a charm omg. Your the GOAT 🤩
Method 6 was the one for me, was happening alot at my ps4 controller that hairs and debry caused a drift, I was sure this one will fix the drift issue at the ps5 one as well.
Thanks alot, you saved my weekend !
My right analog stick was jittering when I moved it. I was kinda surprised but blowing on it with the straw worked. Much easier than taking it apart.
surprisingly this method work for now, and damn i almost go to the nearest repair shop in my town, ggs man tysm
Method 7 worked for me! No more drift. Thank you 👍
i just love how he tells me to put my controller back together in step 6 and in step 7 to disassemble it again ...
So scary. I almost died.
Me timbers were shaking rapidly
I absolutely love u man, i was already thinking of buying a new one when it turns out i just had to blow air in
Taking the black cover off and the inner ring around my stick let me get enough air in to almost completely fix my drift problem. Thank you.
Cool
Thanks for this. I spilt a glass of red wine on my controller and ended up with horredus drift. After going in for a deep clean following along with the video it is saved!
A very thanku bro.. Step 7 worked for me. Saved my 6k Bucks
Thanks, brother!! Fixed my drift... and i also heard some golden sun tunes in the background!!!
IT WORKED!!!! I love you step 7 worked for me and the qtip came out dirty asf
I used the info in this video to strip down and fix a problem where the analogue stick would snap all the way to the left when pushing right. It worked like a treat, although I had to open the potentiometer a few times to clean out all the crap. The section starting at 10:55:00 was the solution.
Like the retro SHINOBI tune...... Brings good time memories. Good video.
You are rare. Most people watching this don't know that music.
Picture..... I've been playing VIDEO GAMES since "1979" and seen a HUGE library of titles. And believe it or not I still own my very first ATARI 2600 that I got in 1980 and still in really good condition with the box with some fading corners. And not counting my huge selection of OLD SCHOOL collection of systems. And all I can do is enjoy watching the new generation trying to collect this old school systems today.
Thank you so much! I tried just about everything you said but I think the drift got even worse! I’m gonna buy a new one. But I’m happy this video exists because I enjoyed trying to fix it myself
Maybe your d pad is stickie and needs to be clean too try that
I love the background music, so much nostalgia
WOW! What a explanation!! thank you 🔆
