I Bought 8 Broken PS5 DualSense Controllers - Let's Fix Them! The common problems I found (and fixed) were: analog stick issues, missing buttons, no power, broken touch pad, non-working buttons, and a messed up USBC port.

Do you have a link for people to buy these pieces that you fix?

My two launch day DualSenses are working flawlessly.
I have two after 500+ hours of play time, they're doing fine.

Exactly, it makes me wonder how people use their controllers to get it to that state.
It's probably mostly kids. That's why he gets the 15$ Amazon special while I use the pro controller.

When Steve said he will check controller #2 on the PS5, I know he would. He always keeps his word and that's one of the things I like about him.
Great work Steve. :)
Steve your a legend!! how you keep track of all the little screws you unscrew and how you put it all back together perfectly with whatever you fix actually blows my mind, watching your videos are so interesting 😁
I love to see people fixing things and knowing that most of the parts won't end up in a land-fill and will be put to good use.
Seeing the one with a missing thumb stick brings back memories when I swapped the ds4 thumb stick with a pair of xbox one thumb stick replacement. It was the greatest thing I've done and I only did that because my Ds4 thumb stick actually was broken (snapped)
Don't lie to us Ian, we all know you threw the controller, at some point we all have ;) ;)

Somehow everything that you fixed, give me satisfaction
Glad to hear it!
I watch these videos in awe honestly, really admire how easily people such as yourself can fix things. I'm trying my best to get on your level.
I really seriously like your videos. I love how you show step by step. The one things is now I can fix them and my PlayStation because of your videos, I know that is the point but someone loses a little money when I fix it. Thanks.
Very nice video. You make repairs look easy, that chip reflow.. and using just a tiny amount of flux was very nice touch, haven't seen that anywhere yet.
What I find fascinating here is some of these controllers are using different analog modules than the others. Some are using analog modules with orange potentiometers, I believe those are from Polyshine Favor Union. The others are using the ALPS analog modules with the green potentiometers, the kind you find in Xbox controllers. I'm curious if they feel different and have different failure rates. I guess we'll find out.
congrats on fixing all of them. good to see you had a variety of problems and seeing how you’d go about fixing them. interested to see the common problems that arise over the coming months to years.
Its fun that when you look inside you can already see that some parts have different colors meaning that they have different suppliers it seems like. It's fun that they have different versions just so short after launch
Board level repairs are fascinating and infuriating all at once.... you sir are a patient man.
Really great video as usual. It would be super interesting to know how much each of these cost, and the estimated cost of the repairs (rough idea per part, labour). It's crazy that you were able to find so many this early in the console's life!
Great video! I’ve revived 3 out of 4 of my dead scuf controllers (thumb stick / potentiometers replacements) thanks to you... saved me literally 100s of dollars
That's amazing! Nice work.
There isnt anything more satisfying than fixing broken electronics :D i really enjoy your videos, they are also helpful and satisfying

I always look forward to these videos on Friday mornings snd you never cease to amaze me. Really suprised that the reflow on that chip worked so well lol
I was surprised at that too! Really nice when they work out like that!

Awesome video. So good glad to see you have given a new life to these controllers when most of the time they would be thrown away.
Great video as always 👍
Love his videos. Managed to fix my controller without dealing any additional damage. Liquid damage under the main chip (no power). I shot WD-40 contact cleaner between the ball solders and the pcb as a hail mary attempt to fix it. I don't know if this is a long term fix, but the controller powered back up afterwards with no problems. Keep these videos coming! It's probably not the last time I dunk my electronics in a spill.
Thanks for giving me another reason to love Fridays!
At first I wondered why there are already so many defective PS5 controllers. Then I noticed that Demon Souls Remake was a launch title. 😂
Sony was smart lmao

Demon's Souls is the easiest of any souls game, I don't think that's it
Absolutely goated for shouting out the kid that sent the controller. Massive props brother
@Tronicsfix I just discovered something interesting about the Dualsense controller touchpad, which I though might be helpful in your repairs.
I have four Dualsense controllers, and I completely disassembled two of them to custom paint them black. This included removing the touchpad circuit board from the plastic touch pad. I did so carefully and set them to the side. These circuit boards looked exactly like the one in your teardown video, with the orange ribbon cable that is soldered to the board.
When I reassembled them, the touchpads didn't work. They were getting power, as the LED light on the circuit board came on, but it didn't recognize swipes or clicks.
So I disassembled ANOTHER dualsense to swap in a known good touchpad, and it worked just fine. I also noticed it was different. The ribbon cable was blue and white, and it wasn't soldered to the board. And the chip was smaller on it. But I know all of these are genuine Dualsense controllers straight from Sony. Thought it was just a different variation.
Well, in further testing, I went back to my two "bad" touchpads. Decided to exchange them between the two controllers, and guess what? They worked!
Apparently, the touchpad with the orange ribbon cable is married to the main board in that controller. It won't work in any other controller. But the touchpad with the white and blue ribbon cable seems universal.
Not sure why the difference, but if you run into an issue with touchpads, it's something to keep in mind. And maybe something to test yourself!!
No no, THIS is the best unboxing ever. You're an artist
Ha, ha...thanks!
Way to go man. I really appreciate your patience and relentless determination.

The controller drift thing seems to be serious. Read an article that states the average lifespan of a Dualsense is approximately 417 hrs. I have 2 right now, only time will tell.
I used to work for Microsoft and that happens all the time with Xbox controllers too. Rather suspicious when you learn the controller warranty is 90 days.
@@gabrielpraslin9576 That's illegal in some countries.
@@2megas most things can be. But that's not the point. The problem is there regardless.
Hmm read the same article, it states that if you play intensive competitive games that requires sharp turns and what not (like in shooters) and moving the stick all over the place, the life expectancy goes down to 400 hours tops and being honest, its a serious thing.
A friend of mine when we talked about it, I told him that I didn't understand how the heck he has gone through 3 DS4 controllers, he simply said: "You don't play shooters"
This was before the article and I can attest to his diligence in taking care of his things.
I wish more unboxing videos where like yours! Absolutely perfect! :)

I’ve broken 2 controllers already… normal use, i take care of them and I’m very gentle with them, still, broken, the R2 spring bends and doesn’t come out completely, both or them had to be replaced by Sony 😔
Curious if you checked all the controllers for properly working haptics and trigger resistance after the repairs? Great vid as always, ya knocked this one out of the park!
I don't know if I should feel sad to see so many broken controllers or happy that dualsense are definitely fixable

Great video! :D
I swear to god people don't know how to treat their things. This thing came out in November and we're seeing so many people breaking these already?! Lol
Sadly too many ppl dont give a crap. They think of it as an object that needs to be used and nothing else. If it breaks they will just buy a new one. Hence i bet most ppl with drifting issues on the ps5 and switch might be using force. I have 2 switches and they never had any drifting issues. Always cleaning my stuff.
@@shinjid3705 I can see where you're coming from but even with very light use I've had controllers run into issues. I have a blue raspberry ps4 controller I use for my pc and the sticks drift and the charge port got loose. And I barely use it, more often than not it is just sat on my desk. And I'm not even playing games that force you to use the sticks kinda rough. I think I played fallen order the most with it. So it's not just a user error thing.
@@AbbyRawks dirt and environment is also an issue. Corrosion can cause electronics to rust and break inside without u even notiticing. I have seen many guides that solved this problem after cleaning the sticks properly. But not everyone is technically advanced so that he or she can easily tear don a controller and do it without braking it .

I'm really interested to see how you'll be able to diagnose and repair the adaptive triggers. Not the triggers themselves, but the part that creates the adaptive tension since that tester can't pick it up.
I'm guessing you tested the adaptive trigger tension for #2 in something like Astro's Playroom? Either way I am interested in seeing such a repair if one ever materializes.
I admire your ability to fault find and fix Steve 😁 Out of curiosity, if you weren't filming this how long would it take to diagnose and repair all 8 controllers?
Great job 👌😃
It's really hard to say. As you know fixing and filming at the same time is VERY time consuming. Most of these probably could have been fixed in under 30 min...but that's just an estimate.
