- I Bought 11 BROKEN PS4 Controllers for $220 - Let's Fix Them! These 11 DualShock PS4 Controllers had a bunch of analog stick issues which I showed fixing more in-depth than usual for those who are interested. I also fixed a couple charge port issues, fixed some controllers people took apart to fix and never put back together correctly, and replaced a bad battery.

Imaging failing to fix your broken controller, selling it and watching this video just to find out, that you put in your ribbon cable upside down after your repair.
That guy was capping

@@browny5124 what?
@@johnpantag472 you’re saying he’s capping...the seller or the guy ?

He underestimates how many times I want to see him fix analog sticks smh
For drifting sticks you dont usually need to replace them, it's usually a matter of the small white disks inside the green compartments at the side of the analog stick, you simply just remove it, clean the inside of the compartment with rubbing alcohol and put it back together.
Is there any videos on RUclips of someone doing it?
@@erickcov.5763 I'm sure someone has
"I'm going to show you exactly how to replace these analog sticks" *waves wand, magic happens* "there! now you know"
Right
“First things first let’s get them unboxed”

Idk why I just found that amusing
Rough handling has never been the cause of a controller failure. That's what they're for.
These controllers are fricking trash
@@dhal If it ain't broke, fix it till it is!
Gotta make sure some of them are broken! Makes for a better video!
@@Tronicsfix Ha!

I like your straight forward ,logical, and easy to understand no BS approach to your method of appraising and fixing. I have about 30 or so older PS and Xbox systems I just don't have the heart to discard and toss out. Thx for the great content.
Time to break those open and get them fixed!
Lmao the ribbon cable turned upside down got me real good 😂 great job as always 😁
Welp, if they werent broken before..the unboxing really made sure they were
Nahh, they can take a battering before they break, even surviving a lot of drops on to a hard floor.

Ah, a repairman that's just as careful as me. I can trust that!
I saw ppl talking about graphics cards fixes. I would definitely watch those videos and I see a lot of appeal for this kind of video through the hardware groups that I am part of.
If you are willing to try, that would be sweet.
And as always, great video! A truly joy to watch!
LOL! The way you just dumped them on the table, that was great. Cheers again Steve!
Ha, ha...glad you enjoyed that part!
This is so entertaining and good, at the same time! This is really the cleanest console-related channel, and I'm thankful for it, because I don't have to see prideful characters in this channel. Now this might be an awkward comment, but it's true. I wouldn't rage at a game after seeing *your* console videos. Great work, keep it up Tronix Fix!
Really appreciate the positive comment!
@@Tronicsfix you're welcome, and I really meant what I said.
I love it. Your video quality got so much better and all those cool transitions. I really like that great youtuber👍
Thanks Steve, had 2 controllers with the USB mini charging ports become lose over time. Managed to remove and repair the ports by carefully closing the socket , only as a workaround, but ordered 2 new ports anyway, but gets you up and running while waiting for the ports to arrive. I would recommend when ordering the ports pay attention to the model number i.e JDS-001 or JDS-011 and not just order without checking. Great video. Thanks Rich
7:02 this was a little bit too fast for me on the old stick removal! Didn't actually see the new one go on. Would have liked to see midframe on the red one. Otherwise another fun video.
went to bed, fell a sleep, woke up, now midnight - no, not tired of watching you fix analog sticks yet, got more? :D
it is really satisfying to see you working on these controllers, great video!
Your videos are always a pleasure to watch and very educational as well. Thanks Steve
2 controllers worked out of the 📦 that's instant $100 out of the box.👍 Nice editing but imagine actually having 2 of you fixing, you'll leave nothing left for us to fix on eBay.
Ha, ha...still wish there was two of me!
TampaTec 50$ for a used up refurbished? Absolutely not I can get brand new ones for the same price.
@@braincube013 Exactly, used ones that still work prob cost around 20 each, and these are broke for 20

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying these!
You have found the balance of very entertaining and extremely entertaining. I'm sure this channel will take off no one else has content like this
I want to say thanks for what you do. I think it was a video about three years ago that helped me with cleaning my PS4 Slim. I just want to say thank you man.
I accidentally clicked on this notification. Your notification popped up right when I was about to click something. So, now I'm here, and I'm not even mad
Wow
Ha, ha...love it!
if you got notification it's because you wanted it xd
Glad you made this video. A ps3 controller of mine sustained some liquid damage a while back and exhibited similar readings in the the gamepad settings (readings jumping around rather than staying steady). I tried lots of stuff to fix it, but gave up and replaced the whole motherboard. I didn't try replacing the analog sticks, tho. I wonder if that's the problem.
It looks like it would be easier to install the new analog stick module if you wick away the solder after removing the the old one. That way, you can just pop the pins through the holes without having to keep all that solder hot. You also don't have to subject as much of the board to prolonged heat that way, since you can just use an iron to apply localized heat to each pin.
I was waiting for this one. Great video
Amazing job. I learned so much.
Your videos are so inspiring, I love the quality of all of your videos. Thank you for being you!
Thank you for watching!
the goat putting out content for us! ✌️
Thats good to know how to solve stick issues. I got a few controllers with such problems. Now I know to fix em. Thanks for this video and keep up the good work!
FINALLY!!!!!! I’ve been asking for this for the longest!
I appreciate the amount of effort for this video. Love your content man I was inspired by you to learn to fix thing till they are broken!!!
Love hearing this!
Definitely would be useful when I'll get my PS4 to replace the analog sticks. Thanks!
It looks like it the analogs were made to get problems after some time
Glad this is helpful!
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. 🙏🙏
You are an expert at this stuff. Fun to watch.
I've already said this but I miss joy con repairs.
I'll try to do more of those at some point.
the left control is always the problem, it is the one that one uses the most when pressing the stick and moving the lever forward in shooters-type games
Thank you so much! My L2 button was having the same issue as Controller 8, I couldn't find any fixes online after days of looking, But your video helped me fix the issue. Again thank you so much and I'm definitely subscribing now
Awesome video helped a lot. Thanks.
Will we ever see things like graphics cards being fixed? Would be interesting.
lol jay's two cents broke a $2500 graphics card but then later fixed it. I think it's the only time I've heard of one being fixed. He originally bypassed the power limiters for overclocking, but then was trying to restore it and broke off the resistor. His soldering technique was TERRIBLE. I was cringing. lol But hey if it works does it matter that it's not flush with the PCB?
@@awilliams1701 Saw that. Was hillarious.

Hi Steve, love your video's. Just was wondering why you replace all the analoge sticks instead of opening them and cleaning the inside with alcohol. Most drifting problems can be fixed that why and saves money and time on soldering new analog sticks. Maybe you can do a in depth video ones on the inside of the analoge stick? Keep up the good work!
omg please post more videos i literaly love to watch you work on games !! its amusing !!! more videos please , more ps4 videos !!
I love watching you fix things!
Thank you!
I’ve always wanted to see how to replace the thumb sticks. I didn’t know how they could be. Thank you.
My pleasure!
Love your videos, been watching you for just over a year. I love how you skip over repetitive repairs but go in depth once or twice, it really helps us novice repair enthusiasts! Please do an Ifixit pro tool kit giveaway! The kit looks amazing, but soooo pricey especially for the shipping to us in the UK. Keep doing what your doing your vids are great!!!
It's really hard to know which parts to show sometimes. I try to make it show everything at least once but not get too boring.
It’s good to see you have a twin 😀
Love your videos btw
I really enjoy the "half-assed" way you did this video. Lol. The box opening, cleaning off the table. Hopefully more to come in future vids.
I clicked so fast on the notification this is my guilty pleasure channel. Lol
So glad you're enjoying it.
Finally a video where the "broken" things are actually broken, amirite?
Agreed!
Clever editing! I love it!
Nice job you are getting a new sub. Your vids are really helpful because some of us have broken controllers you give is a new knowledge:Thanks🎉
Hey, this is just a tip for anyone that has analogue stick drift problems. So if you open up the two green compartments on the top and sides of the joysticks, inside will be white joystick sensors and all you have to do is replace those and your stick drift problem will be fixed. Just make sure your replace the right ones as the top sensors are what picks up the left and right movement of the joystick and the sensors on the sides are the ones that pick up the up and down movements.
I have this issue on like 6 or 7 controllers... I'm too scared to pop em open... lol
Is there any way to improve the analog sticks or build stronger ones ? Its one of the most common problems of the Dualshock 4, so there must be another way than replacing the analog sticks every few months. Maybe build ones completely out of metalls or a better dust cover on the sensors? Idk
Amazing video and work! Thanks for the insight it was really useful!
Nice video, TronicsFix!

True XD
They are all plastic with a metal outer shell
Ha, ha...had to show my secret this time!
LOVE THESE VIDEOS!
As always another fantastic video.
Next time on good condition controllers, before replacing sticks, try to clean flux traces from the PCB. Factories use cheap flux that over time creates a lot of issues such as interference/resistance between pins and that the actual issue. Same happening with Power-A Nintendo and Xbox controllers. I "fixed" loads of controllers this way. Main reason why you MUST clean flux after soldering...
7:14 to 7:20 - How did that scratch suddenly end up there?? ouch!
If you don't want to burn/melt the plastic - you need lower temps. The lead-free solders melt at higher temperatures of about 217°C/422°F compared to 183°C/361°F for the lead-based option.
- *apply some lead-based solder onto the joints before applying hot-air, and you're down a cool 34°C/61°F* 😎
I also noticed that the ribbon cable is upside down. I may have develop a good attention to details when im watching Steve's videos. Overall very educational and entertaining videos. Keep it up and Hello from the Philippines.
2:40 I got a flashback to jaystwocents advertisement on ifixit😀😀😀
BTW I subbed.
$220 for 11 broken controllers? That's a terrible deal lol
He fixed every single one, making him almost $400 in profit
Cant wait for him to start fixing the ps5 and xbox series x
Well now their here
The Fastest and straight to the point unboxing ever. Even I cant beat that speed .
Great video Steve! Controller fixing is currently my favorite electronic repair to do. Do you have a good source for the replacement thumbsticks? Some of the ones I get can be subpar quality.
The primary issue I run into is where clicking the sticks while they are pushed in a direction doesn't work very well, which makes sprinting harder in shooters for example.
I skip four episodes at a time so I can binge watch them on the weekends
Ha, ha...nice! Whatever works!
i do repairs for a gameshop and trust me game controllers is the most popular one i repair. what was that stand holder you were using in the video to remove the analogs? i really want that thing

I am glad this video showed up on my feed. My sister has a PS4 controller that has a drift issue. Seeing this, I know that once I either get the part or find a busted PS4 controller, I can possibly fix it. :D
Great repairs! I’d really love to get into electronic repairs myself, what do you think are the best things to start with? I saw an old video where you said you did some microwaves, where did you learn it all though?
Thanks for the info Steve. Just one question what temperature and air flow settings do you use when working with hot air?
Thanks
1100F and airspeed of 3
@@Tronicsfix not being professional youtubers, most of us can't afford the same hardware. Would the less expensive guns that max out at 900 degrees F suffice?
Okay, so this going to be interesting because I have a few old controllers that need fixing.
Time to tear them open!
Amazing as always XD
Hey.
Great video.
Thanks for that.
Have you ever came across vibration issues with dualshock 4 controllers?
Mine has the right side vibration motor/rotor rotating too loudly and I think out of time.
Thanks and thanks for the cannel/videos
Just a quick question: How high do you set your temperatur on the hot air gun?
300-400c°
Ps4 controllers have a major analog stick problem, they break down so quickly and easily, its frustrating
Agreed
Check out the ps5 nowadays 😂
It's nice that you have a twin to help you fix the controllers
Great video. Super channel.
How do you deal with stuck screws? I've tried opening some of my stuff before but even with the correct screwhead sometimes I end up stripping the screws, and because they're so small I can't do much afterwards
You have to put a lot of pressure downward when unscrewing. If you are using the right size and they still strip then you likely need to buy better quality tools.
Next video: I bought 20 broken BROKENS, how many brokens can I fix to fixes?
I just like these videos. Brings me to the time in 90's when I was in school for light voltage electronics where we fixed TV's and vcr's and amplifiers. And that was the time for 386 and 486 computers and intel 486 sx25 was the first computer that I changed cpu to 486 DX66. And AMD K6 300 was the first computer that I build with my own hands from pieces.
I am very satisfied when you fix as many as possible
I have so many ps4 controllers that broke due to the stick drift, so I just bought the sensors and it fixed most of them, beats paying about 60-80 for a new controller now. Idk if I'll be comfortable using the heat to remover the entire analog tho lol
Keep up the amazing work!
How did you damage the left side of the PCB at 7:20 ?
I really don't remember. This was filmed weeks ago. I do remember that that part of the solder mask came off much easier than it should have...maybe the effect of liquid damage. I think maybe wit pliers.
Did you notice when he was installing the board back into the controller it wasn't scratched anymore? Something fishy going on.
You are doing a goood thing I’m trying to take apart my controls and swap the housing
