The actors playing Frank and Amy were both so great that they made you root for them after knowing them for just a few minutes. They were just so likeable. And as you guys said, they had great chemistry.
Agreed. The acting was superb. The main actors really pulled you in and had you cheering for them. I'm not sure I've ever smiled so much at the end of an episode of Black Mirror.
The actor playing Frank is great, his name is Joe Cole. He's in Peaky Blinders if anyone's wondering, which is a phenomenal show.
iTwistyz Phenomenal is an understatement. The acting and writing are both fantastic and the story is so gripping. Even the theme song is brilliant. It's SO underrated.

My theory is that this episode uses the same technology as White Christmas and U.S.S. Callister. The app uses real clones of the people who actually date other clones countless times until they find the right match. I love how the black mirror universe is so harmonious!
And that makes it quite dark as we know the clones are effectively real people. So countless real people have been effectively sentenced to endless loveless relationships just to see if they'll rebel.
BM had a number of these threads running throughout the series
Furthermore it is a caricature of real life dating because the cookies are doing dating almost like we do nowadays with anonymous endless Dating and going next and next

We understood this was just an app in the end. But Black Mirror always sparks great conversations. So we really delve into relationships, love and sex in this discussion.These are just our opinions, if you have different opinions on how to live your life, that is obviously great!

Interesting to listen to your & Abi's take on relationships & soulmates. A "soulmate" is a wonderfully romantic & spiritual notion. It swims with the world of supernature & magic; but do they exist? I, for one, believe that they do. Nevertheless, I don't believe they exist in the supernature sense but rather in the practical; meaning a soulmate is forged via natural attraction/chemistry & commitment. If you can manage to live out your life with someone & survive the temptation of others, the hardship of raising a family, of financial worries, illness, house moves, boredom, toilet seats up, toilet seats down, leaving clothes on the bedroom floor, snoring, leaving towels on the bedroom floor, turning the fucking hair dryer on at 6 am, forgetting to put petrol in the car, borrowing razors for legs or armpits, not listening to work stories, having to listen to work stories, going out too much, not going out enough, shite music, cold feet, duvet thievery and irritating friends then you deserve to refer to one another as soulmates.
Imon_Snow if u like this episode then watch a film name "The lobster" it has similar theme
I always considered San Junipero a bittersweet episode. This one is just a nice little love story. And I hope you all one day find the person who fills your love box. Maybe even fills it twice a night.
The bit where everyone started staring at them near the escalators reminded me of Inception. Maybe that was the film Abi was thinking of?

Exactly!!! I agree with you guys. I never set up shows I just tell people to watch. The last 10 seconds of this episode in my opinion is the greatest non spoken dialogue in any show. Cute couple, awesome writing, great ending. My favvvvc😃😃😃☺
I think in some ways this episode is more relatable than San Junipero (which I loved) because the sim-couple literally defy the world for each other. They rebel against a system that seems to want to keep them apart and that's an inherently romantic idea.
And the Black Mirror of it all is the "big data" aspect and how it's becoming an integral part of so many aspects of our lives. It's kind of a story about big data told from the data's point of view ;).

Creative Name Maybe "relatable" is the wrong word (it's the one Imon uses so I was responding to that). This episode is a more conventional story IMO in that it has clear-cut protagonists and a more overt antagonist (or seems to) so it fills more of the holes that we normally use fiction to fill. It's easier in some ways to put ourselves into the story partly precisely _because_ it's not "just" about everyday stuff like falling in love - it's got a standard structure, which we're all used to and a villain to rail against, which is one of the attractions of escapist fiction IMO, the simplicity of good guys and bad guys - and partly, conversely, because most of us haven't spent our lives paralysed or being married for 49 years but _have_ had good and bad dates.
That said, I cried like a big kid at San Junipero and not at this so for emotional punch SJ wins for me.
I love this episode, they met each other and had a connection but in real life this happens often and we let the nice guy or girl go because it scares us. They had to go through a string of bad relationships to realize how much they value the right one.
This is my favorite episode of "Black Mirror" because I am a sappy hopeless romantic. I think your videos are going to help people.

It's my opinion. Also, to me, San Junipero isn't close to the best episode of the series, even though it won awards. Not even the best of Season 3. Shut Up and Dance and Hated in the Nation were much greater episodes, IN MY OPINION.
San Junipero was better I think but talking about which is the best episode of the series has no sense, too much great episodes too good show

I can understand why San Junipero won awards, it was a great story and concept on its own, but as a Black Mirror episode it wasn't the best in my opinion as well. I was kind of overhyped going into San Junipero so I was a little let down, even though I did enjoy the episode overall.
Similar thing with this episode but I felt less let down for some reason. Perhaps it's that I liked the soundtrack and characters, and the way it ended felt more impactful, more like a Black Mirror ending compared to San Junipero. *(I really like 80s music so I also expected San Junipero's soundtrack to be more prominent, but it focused too little on music in my opipnion ^^)

I like how the ending is both very sweet and very bleak. Imagine never having a genuine, spontaneous connection with anyone anymore because this app basically spoils the whole dating experience. The cute dinner date, the bath tub scene, even the fight, it all never happened in their real life. You can't pick and choose, only have the fun parts and cut out all the awkwardness, the fights, the growing.
I watch Black Mirror alone but always come to your channel after watching an episode so it's like I can discuss it with people, even though I'm not there with you. Whenever I watch your reaction videos and an emotionally happy or sad ending happens, I tear up with either joy or sadness. Your channel gives comfort to me as a solo viewer. I didn't get emotional when watching alone at the end but I had happy tears when you guys got to the end of the episode. Love your channel for Black Mirror reactions x

For those who don't know, the song the episode title comes from is Panic by The Smiths, one of the great British bands of the 80s. Hopefully this will inspire younger folks to investigate them.

Oh man, I really wish I could react with you two bc I swear we're on the same wavelength. Like Hated in the Nation, Shut Up and Dance, and Hang the DJ are my favorite Black Mirror episodes. Also, I completely agree with you about soul mates and the idea of one perfect person out there for each of us. That view of love isn't realistic and, just like you said, it's more accurate to say that there can be certain personalities that you will just gravitate towards naturally. In my opinion, people should hold out for those select few personalities that you just vibe with rather than settling with someone bc you're afraid to be alone. I'm 22 so I don't know much, but I think love has to be one of the most complicated things anyone can experience and it's worth taking your time to figure out.
Anyways, I'm glad you guys liked the episode and (relationship-wise) I hope you find what your looking for :)

Simple when broken down although the millions of little differences can make it seem like a connection that will work till you find a deal breaker in there somewhere.

The question needs to be asked: Do the "real world" couple know how advanced this dating app is?
Do they know that this app created a simulation of them and ran it over a thousand times to get a result?
Or, do they just think it's just some cutesy dating app for fun?
If they do know how serious and advanced this app is, does it then put added pressure on them to make this relationship work? How would it affect you, knowing a software app chose your soul mate?
*And to know your copy slept with 1000 different people ^^ I suppose that might not be entirely how it works..

Think White Christmas and USS Callister... each one of those "personalities" inside the app were participants who allowed uploads of themselves to interact and deal with each others uploads until the software determined who the best match was from the willing participants. None of the people in the app mattered, they were created to meet and greet and date everyone. That's why they were always dating, their sole purpose was to date every other upload.
This is one of my favorite episodes because the concept was so creative.
8:39 when she can’t remember what show or movie those people remind her of . Almost instantly I think I know what movie she’s thinking of . ‘Inception’ , and more specifically it’s the part where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character is training Elliot (Elen) Page’s character and the people just stare at them . Was I right ?
I said this on your last vid but I really think you guys should watch peaky blinders. It’s the best show on the bbc and Netflix for people outside the uk. If you like grey complex characters and storylines then this is the show you should watch.

Loved hang the Dj. I have had one ltr in my life single 12.5 years now. I have given hope that I'll find a man to be in a relationship with. I was really hoping for a happy ending and it was :-)
I thought the episode was super dark. This may have been a little genocide in a phone per one matching simulation.

Black Mirror is a shared universe anthology. Later [in the timeline of the universe] -- here goes the potential spoiler warning -- the cookie-type entities received rights [they could not be abused any more; if copied into some physical host, they had to be allowed enough emotional expression, etc.].
Maybe it's been done just in case - because of the 'benefit of doubt' type of argument: we don't know, but it's better to on the safe side of the dilemma.
Or maybe they've found good empirical and philosophical reasons to think that digital copies are actually aware beings. It's not entirely clear either what the consensus was or what is the actual ontological status of those types of entities in this universe [it also could be that there is not just one type of entities throughout the series, maybe some were aware and some not, depending on the technology - and that surely evolved in time].
Anyway, the best case scenario - no one was harmed in those simulations.
Worst case scenario - it was an app that generated genocide after genocide to determine the compatibility between people.
The ending of "Hang the DJ" was the biggest wtf for me so far.

I think that this episode would be more relatable for most people, gay or straight, rather than San Junipero. The couple in San Junipero were older and had lived most of their lives. One of them had even been married and had a child. So I believe more of the older audience would be able to relate to moving on and finding someone new after being with someone else for such a long time.

There is nothing that makes me stop watching a reactor faster than getting to my favorite episodes and finding out you've already been spoiled. There are other reactors that don't allow themselves to be spoiled and their reactions are much more enjoyable. You're so gorgeous you'd for sure be my favorite reactor if it wasn't for that.
