      Imon_Snow If I remember correctly, they were already doing a supply run and since they were already getting supplies, they decided to get a bear too. They may have went out of the way to get the teddy bear, but I believe the teddy bear wasn't their sole reason of getting out from wherever they came from. :)

    This episode is quite polarizing when it comes to viewers opinions. I enjoyed it and I liked that this wasn't a "typical" Black Mirror episode. I found it mysterious and thrilling.
    My take is that with humanity being hunted down by these robotic dogs, all they had left was the ability to _be human._ The ability to feel empathy and compassion towards each other, which is something a robot can't do. So much so that 3 of them were willing to risk their lives to try and bring comfort to a dying child. Once humankind loses it's humanity, what are they living for?

    I didn't like the episode that much but the twist with the teddy bear is heartwhelming. It just shows how the humanity is still in them after all the things that happened. They were ready to risk their life just to make a child smile.

      but.. the kid is dying. there's barely any survivors, there's nothing to do, nobody to see. the kid probably has no friends, few family members left. who knows if they even have power, or much clean water. they obviously didn't know they were going to die, they risked it to bring a glimpse of happiness to a dying child.

    No car explosion because it's in the future and they don't run on gas or fossil fuel anymore.
    They run on battery/electric cells.
    Since you've already watched Black Museum and saw how that car was "re-fueled", you know what I'm talking about (and since you've probably also figured out that these stories more or less happen in the same universe).

    • @whereswally45
      @whereswally45 6 лет назад +12

      Actually cars don't explode after falling off a cliff, even with gas because the actual liquid itself isn't flammable it's only the fumes and they are trapped inside the gas tank. That's just something that happens in the movies, it doesn't happen in real life.

    It might not be rational that they would risk their lives just to get a teddy bear, but I think one of the purposes of the episode and in the ending, was to contrast the differences between humans and robots.

    It was implied that the dogs had gone to sleep and had been asleep for a long time before the events of the episode started, so perhaps the protagonists thought it would be worth taking the risk because the chances of encountering a dog were so low.

  • @TerryNationB7

    This episode reminded me of the Peter Weller 1995 movie Screamers. They invented Autonomous Mobile Swords (AMS) to use in the battlefield to target opposition forces. AMS are artificially intelligent self-replicating machines which manage to update and evolve themselves into things that the people who invented them are ill equipped to deal with, making them a danger to everyone.
    It is based on the Philip K Dick short story Second Variety. There have been a bunch of movies & tv shows based on his writing: Blade Runner, Paycheck, Total Recall, Minority Report, The Adjustment Bureau, Imposter, Next, A Scanner Darkly, The Man in the High Castle.

    Great review/reaction. I looked up the funding for Boston Dynamics and it turns out they were developing it for the US military but they rejected because it was a loud (old one). Google bought it then recently a Japanese company called SoftBank. This is how military grade projects are started then end up in the private/commercial market. By this time next year, Softbank will release the first security and helper robots to the public. Who knows what they will sell to the worlds military. At the beginning was a reference to Jack, and having only a few days left. It's easily missed on first viewing. Jack is evidently a kid who's dying, and his carers mount this futile adventure to get him a new >*spoiler*< ....teddy bear.
    btw, Yankees - how do you like Maxine Peake's accent? She's from Lancashire, so hers is a classic 'Northern accent' ...from Merry England!

  • @krzyszwojciech
    @krzyszwojciech 6 лет назад

    I think the teddy bear was partly symbolic.
    Something the evokes childhood and the feeling of safety, which have been destroyed be the technological development.
    Theoretically though, since it's the future, the teddy bears could have been something more than just the toys for a child. They might have been equipped with some useful electronics, maybe some simpler AI units, that could be useful for human's survival.

    "My biggest question was who created them......"
    Soooo, ......completely unrelated (not really),......there's no Easter Egg in the previous episode relating to these dogs, however, I believe it was Imon who mentioned a company that created robotic dogs in real life (as in OUR world).
    That company's name is Boston Dynamics and it's easy to find RUclips videos of them and the dogs in action.
    Here's the freaky part:-
    Boston Dynamics was recently bought out by Google (yeah that Google).
    Now here's the REALLY freaky part:-
    Google (along with FaceBook, along with Amazon, Microsoft - all independently of each other) is currently doing research and development on Artificial Intelligence systems.
    Mainly it's related to their self-driving cars technology (Tesla the same), but they said it could be put to other uses.
    I'll let you fill in the blanks.
    In the meanwhile, enjoy this video of your new mechanical canine Overlords (to be)......
    ruclips.net/video/lkJk8_swbHE/видео.html
    Oh, and I forgot to mention...
    The US Military is ALSO investing in this technology and research (primarily for helping soldiers carry equipment in the field and rough terrain. But who knows where THEY could take it)
    Sweet dreams, little ones.

    I have a little girl who has a little Teddy bear. If I lived in a world like that, and she was dying, and all she wanted was to hold her "Bear Bear" again, I'd risk my life, your life, anyone's life to make it happen. And if you died along the way I'd still call it worth it. You'll get it someday.

    • @ImonSnow
      @ImonSnow  6 лет назад +10

      17thknight I have two boys and I wouldn't risk my life for a teddy bear. They need me more than a toy. If I died in a post apocalyptic world and I was the only one left with them. They wouldn't survive. I wouldn't leave their side. I would die protecting them before I put my self in harms way for a toy.

    I really don't understand how you can miss the point of the teddy bear thing _that_ hard. The point of the teddy bear reveal is the fact that the situation these people are living in is _so_ hopeless and dire, more than you might have thought, that people are willing to risk their lives just to bring a small comfort to a dying child.

    All in all, I feel this was a mediocre episode. The atmosphere was great, so was the tension and cinematography, and the dog as the menacing antagonist was the highlight for me. However, I can't get over the fact that they clearly know what the robo dogs are, so shouldn't they be aware of what they're capable of? Why did she go on the radio, when the dog could track radio signals? Are you telling me she wasn't aware that it could track radio despite surviving in a world full of automated kill dogs for so long? Why didn't she patch herself up when she was in the tree by ripping cloth? This caused the dog to be able to track her blood trail. All this ultimately makes the protagonist's demise feel like it could've been avoided, and the ending feel cheap, which sours the episode for me.
    Anyway, although I agree that going out to find a replacement bear would be a dumb reason to go risk their lives, the warehouse had more than just the bears. Had their scavenge been successful, they would've gained one extra van, possibly batteries, and whatever other supplies were in the warehouse.
