When I served in the Marines, I was pre-selected to interview for Barracks duty at "8th and I" in Washington DC. There were only 3 of us for the final interview but I didn't make it. Selection is very strict. I did own a blue uniform though as part of my next duty assignment. Those shoes are permanently shined to a mirror finish, same as the brass and vinyl cover on the head gear. What you're seeing, is thousands of hours of training in close-order drill.
My first daughter was born while husband was in boot camp. His drill Sergeant kept calling him out because " Marines don't smile" and he couldn't stop grinning.
My next door neighbor was in the Navy for 20 years. Every day, he sits in the garage and shines his boots. He wears them most of the time. My nephews were both in the Marines.
The ceremonial swords worn by US Marine Corps officers are modeled after the "Mamaluke Sword" presented to First Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon by the Ottoman Viceroy during the First Barbary War. Check out the Fat Electrician's video : America Dismantles Pirate Nations For Touching Their Boats - The Barbary Wars It explains the history of the sword.
The visitor team the Colts coming onto the field during this was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. Professional athletes who've done this hundreds of times over before getting to this level, they could have delayed the "warm up". Such an insult
Yesterday I saw a video from Gaza. It was trash bags piled on top of each other. The bags were filled with human remains. This video wouldn't even make my top 10 of disgusting things I saw this week.
Yeah, I thought that was disrespectful on the field why they were doing their ceremony! I see them walking off the field coming out but not during the ceremony .
Love the reaction.... And we call them "Covers" not Hats and no that was not planned but it was an official way to install the Marines back on his person
My late husband was a USMC 1967-1971. He hated calling cadence. Until his death, his son's thought he was dishonorably discharged. I never understood why they thought that. We were married for a little over 25 years. This New Year's Eve he will be gone for 5 years. I miss him awful God Bless y'all ✌️✌️ & ❤❤
My platoon did something similar to this when I was in the Army. Not nearly as difficult or as well as the Marines in this video, but a similar sort of thing. It was a lot of fun and very satisfying when things went well.
He took the bayonet off, when the corporal walked from behind, and all eyes and cameras were on him. He HAD TO take bayonet off, for safety reasons. You don't want to be tossing a rifle about, while the bayonet is attached. Sharp, pointy things don't play well, when they are tossed.
I don't see why anyone would get upset by you pausing the video. The whole point is to see your reactions - that's why we watch. It's not like you're interrupting the real thing. Pause away!
Even if the guy who lost his cover, (hat), didn't get oficially reprimanded, he will NEVER be allowed to forget it by the rest of the Marines in the platoon.
Check out the silent drill platoon in an ad for Marine recruitment. They go across the country from Maine to California in drill mode. It's short but inspirational. It's on RUclips and it's called: "America's Marines...the Original".
You are correct about the hair we Marines keep the shortest hair of the services. I am a dual service vet Army/Marines and Marines tend to be the more disciplined service with higher standards. Also, Marine Corps dress blues are definitely the sharpest of all the services.
Parris Island , South Carolina 1982 United States Marine Corps. , basic training . The first hair cut is usually on the second day . The only question you will hear is. Do you have any bumps , lumps , birth marks , is there any thing on your head besides hair that can be cut by accident ? Then the 30 second haircut starts . All will end up with some fuzz left . There are 3 stages of the 13 week training . In the 3rd stage you will get a high and tight cut , a Motivation cut is what we call it . The hair will be between a half inch to an inch on the top and shaved on each side , with the back tapering down to nothing !!
We attended the ceremony at Marine Corps Barracks in Washington DC when I was attending the officers’ course in Quantico, VA. It is super impressive to see them in their “home” element.
When I was in high school I was apart of their JROTC. Which is basically an extra curriculum class anyone can take, it’s extremely fun and a great character builder. Anyway I was on the drill team and whenever we did competition they said “No matter what happens, we don’t care if you wet your pants or your pants fall to your ankles. Stay In Formation!” None of that ever happened ofc but it’s true, people loose hats or rifles but still stay in formation. It’s to help with appearance but mainly for the others marching, it definitely throws you off cadence when your missing a member.
I am surprised you get teased about a bald head in Europe - We love shaved heads in the USA of course we also love long hair, medium hair, well groomed hair and so on because we are very Diverse that way. You are a very handsome man with no hair so I would not change it if I were you. The Marine Drill Platoon are amazing and they are demonstrating what it is to be a Marine - how they learn to be in unison and live and fight as one - they are amazing men and women as well as those other corps but I particularly love the marines.
As a Marine, we're taught drill, and the manual of arms (the rifle movements) for unit cohesion. These Marines take it to the next level. They train for hours to get each movement down to a count with no commands given. I've seen the Silent Drill team three times. The first was in boot camp in 1977, the second was at Headquarters Marine Corps, Marine Barracks in Washington, DC in 1985 and the third time was in 1992 after I had gotten out at a local Armed Forces day celebration.
The not smiling is easy. They “reinforce” that into your for 13 weeks of boot camp and every time you practice for parade/drill events even after boot camp. We (Marines) are taught to never break from the detail at hand. A bug lands on your face when at the position of attention and you just stand there and let it do its thing.
Great video, and thanks for sharing. Definitely take a look at some other USMC Silent Drill Platoon videos. What I couldn't stand was the extreme disrespect of the NFL players coming onto the field. WAIT UNTIL THE MARINES ARE DONE!
@@beavisroadhog9629 it was so common when I was in the Navy in the 80s that it might as well be standard and would be expected in this unit to look more uniform.
those damn football players get to play that sport because of those marines and they cant wait 15 minutes to warm up for their comfy 15 million a year job to start????
The swords are called Mamelukes. They represent the sword presented to Marine First Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon by the Pasha of Tripoli in 1804, during the First Barbary Pirate War. The Marines have a long storied history. This is one of the greatest story in the Marines, every new recruit are expected to learn and remember these histories.
Bayonets fold into the stock of these rifles. These are show rifles. Sks's and ak's do the same. There is groove in the stock. great vid as usual. Thanks.
Wrong, dude. Rifle, U.S. 30 cal has no groove, and does not fold like it's communist counterparts. Don't attempt to explain things of which you have zero grasp.
I was stationed at The Marine Air Station El Toro California back in 1982 and they came for a performance somewhere nearby and also did a performance for us.
I was US Army for 8 years 2000-2008, my MOS was 15T-20, but I loved doing drill competition at Ft. Moore and Ft. Eustis VA. Of course our uniform was just at the time BDU not those we weren't marine.
I got to be on a Drill Team (Not Silent) and it was great fun. We performed for many different events. Now my son serves, and he volunteered to spend a few weeks at Arlington performing funeral for the Gold Star Families. He would have to carry the caskets, fold the flag, sometimes be part of the gun salutes and even playing the bugle. I'm very proud of him as he just received his 5th NAM (Navy Achievement Medal). Joking with him, I asked that if he gets enough NAMs, can he trade them all in for 12 Medal of Honor. ;P
sabers and katakana are types of swards. accidents do happen hats fall off and even missing a catch when they toss their rifles, so they have ways to reset everything. There are a few countries that have drill teams I know Singapore and the Philippines among them.
If you ever get to watch in person(I haven’t but would like to) the best and proper way to watch is in complete and utter silence from the second they walk in to the second they walk out. And DO NOT walk onto the field/court/floor or whatever they are drilling on until it is over. There’s another video of this at a high school and they showed more respect for this drill than this entire stadium

You had to do your best in drum core all the time cause there was always someone working to take your spot on the field.
I had to stop watching the royal guard vids on TikTok because I got sick of listening to the Brits and their hate on the U.S. Military. Specifically the Marine Corps and the 3rd Infantry tomb guards at Arlington. I got sick of listening to there sick and vile comments about our military.
Those are real rifles with real sharp bayonets. And yes, at one point the "inspected" rifleman had removed his bayonet for safety reason for the toss of the rifle to his Drill Officer. They all have removed their bayonets for the throwing portion of the drill. I do not know whether those rifles can actually shoot bullets or not. Such a cool drill. Love it! The football players should never have taken the field while this was going on. Disrespectful!
As a marine in the seventies..watching this brought a tear to my eye..thank you..and God bless
The blank face is called “military bearing” and just like the silent routine requires practice practice practice
Big Bird could be shaking his tail feathers right in front of them and they'd just stand there, stone faced, thinking about chicken dinner.
They are even more impressive on a hard surface because you can hear every step they take.

Nope. Part of the show. It always happens at shows like this but miraculously never, ever at the evening parades in Washington.
It will never again be this quite in that stadium.
My son served in the USMC, and fought in Iraq. That haircut is the legendary "high and tight". Marines are pristeen no matter what.
There is another version done indoors on a basketball court and it shows a much longer version of this routine!!! The sounds are better too!!

watch the US navy drill team in oslo norway . its amazing .
They have silent drill teams for every branch of the United States Millitary
THE MARINES are by far the best.
Really? Where do they hide? Are they waiting until they are no longer small and dried up to come out of their caves?😂
I was stationed at The Marine Air Station El Toro California back in 1982 and they came for a performance somewhere nearby and also did a performance for us.
It’s hours and hours of Drill and Ceremony “aka D&C”.
Yes they are
I absolutely HATE players disrespecting the Marines! They don't have a right to be there on the ground with the Marines!

These guys spends hundreds of hours on the parade deck to learn how to work as this precise of a team.
