I had a chance to see them live in Dayton Ohio back in the 90's and passed. I am really kicking myself now. Somehow I thought they would suck live. Maybe this video has been doctored or something, but it sounds live.
This video IS live (filmed in Dortmund, Germany). And if you had gone to see them in the 90s, you would have been disappointed because it would not have been this lineup. It would've been just Mike with a backup band as Paul, Frank & Ali were long gone by then.
I saw that show with my 6-year old son!! 1996 if memory serves. It wasn't the full group, but it was still pretty good. It was an outdoor concert during the late afternoon/early evening.
@@AJ17_ ... As the old saying goes, `The show must go on. AFOS became another victim of the typical band illnesses that make bands fall apart & disband. It could be ego, illness, deaths, money, drugs, exhaustion, artistic direction, etc. Paul could not handle the pressure of fame/touring & also had drug issues (& recently recovered from a stroke a few years ago). Ali argued with brother Mike. And Frank hung on as long as he could until their next album flopped in 1986. We only see AFOS through rose-colored glasses. They have many songs in their discography but most people only know them for about 3 of those songs that got popular. Fortunately, Mike has kept the band name going throughout the years & that is why we still have AFOS playing live performances today, even if they have a different lineup, with Mike being the only original. Because he is the founder of AFOS. Many bands have to change lineup, not just them. It is what it is. However, fortunately the original lineup of AFOS have gotten back to the studio in recent years to record new albums, like during 2018-2021. Their VH1 reunion experience did sort of ease tension a little bit, which probably helped get them back together eventually for studio work. But all of them are now senior citizens, they all look like grandfathers including Paul who was the youngest back then. They are not what we see them in the video above. Again, rose-colored glasses. We need to appreciate all of them now because they do not have much time left on this Earth, maybe a couple more decades on average perhaps. 08/17/24
