He's currently still recovering from a stroke he suffered in early 2020, but I've heard he's been doing better. I hope that's true. Poor guy has been through it.
just achieving a sound with an electric guitar is one thing: how you MANIPULATE that sound and employ it is another...when it all comes together like this in this song, it is a joy to behold and experience.
A gig every night, the fatigue had to be over whelming. This sort of job has its pressures, that adds to it's wearing factor. Paul's artistic mastery was so beyond ordinary ,he could turn out sounds that transports the listener away from their goings on of their daily life. I feel loved. He put his blood, sweat and tears into it. Thank you so very much Paul.
@@Cristinact That was part of the reason why he left. Paul said on Bands Reunited that he was so exhausted that he was physically sick. Plus he felt he was too young for the rock & roll lifestyle, which was just too fast for him and he couldn't keep up anymore (he was drinking heavily while in tour to try to cope with the stress and supposedly drugs were in the mix as well). Poor guy ended up having a nervous breakdown after he left the band due to the stress and whatnot, and said for awhile he could barely function as a normal person.
I love how whenever you go into any Flock of Seagulls video on youtube now its ALL about Paul Reynolds and his guitar! He didn't seem to get much due credit back then so glad people see his talent now.
This song revolves around Paul Reynolds and his peerless guitar strumming . The song's theme implies doom , somber times ahead. He definitely accentuates that.
Well said. The 1983 US Festival performance of this song is probably the best live version. Paul had the crowd in a trance. (Those Chords) The video is primarily focused on Paul.
My head was never turned by any lead guitarists playing, before or after Paul. His sound alone adds that... well he can make any band shine above the rest.
I am just feeling the same, sister. Its just a sound made for this era. That people in the concert maybe can feel good, but its for us, for 2021 listeners.
Rediscovering FOS after a 32 year absence....and the great thing about getting older is that you appreciate all their songs...not just their hits....thanks for the great music guys!
So true Paul was ahead of his time .... although that would be hard he was so young . Glad he made it through the rough crap. Glad he's still with us .
This song reminded me of something Bauhaus would've done, trancelike with flourishes of guitar dynamics, building and building as it goes along. Reynolds and Ashe, the two 80's quintessential guitar dynamos in my book.
El sonido de esa guitarra me lleva al pasado...al futuro...también te hace viajar miles de Kilómetros hacia cualquier lugar...te hace volar y soñar despierto...
I am in the first 2 seconds of this clip applauding! Amazing night. Very loud and lots of dry ice smoke. If I recall there was a technical fault and the band chatted with the audience for a bit.
As much as I would love it, it doesn't seem likely at this point even if Mike could put his ego aside. Too many health issues with the other guys (Frank has a rare heart condition & Paul is recovering from a stroke he had in early 2020).
Because Mike likes his hired hands. I've heard Mike is very difficult to work with/for. The brief reunion they did in 2004 fell apart pretty quickly when old tensions resurfaced & Mike ditched them and went back to his touring band (though still promoting the shows as "the original lineup"). Also, Paul suffered a stroke in early 2020, but I've heard he's been on the mend and doing better (I hope that's true).
I bet Mike was hard to get along. Why would the band separate so quickly. They were so famous. And all of a sudden. They dropped off the face of this world. They literally made millions. And now, they are broke and unknown.
Ms. Jenny Wu-Mosley they’re not broke! Mike still tours, Paul owns a bed and breakfast in France, Paul plays jazz guitar now and tours, Ali works at a plastics factory in quality control in NC.
Gilmore get high by years of experience, and Paul had it inside of him. Cant stop watching his videos. He is not there at stage. He is higher... And Mike feel it. He pushed Paul away. Why he was not at work? 20 years are wasted.

Absolute perfect apocalypse/dystopian song.Paul Reynolds guitar licks is just masterful🎸Great song from Mike Score🔊
Can imagine this song at the end of the world!!!
Paul Reynolds killing it 🤘🎸🤘🤘🎸🎸
Paul Reynolds must be remembered for his fantastic guitar skills
Yes hes awesome!
Paul is the reason I loved this band and he is why it worked for me sonically. To be so young and have a sound that all is own was amazing..

Definitely!!!!
Paul Reynolds was responsible for Making the Flock's sound so Unique.
We must protect Master Paul Reynolds at all costs!!! Freaking legend!!!

Paul reynolds made me want to learn to play the guitar he is the best thank u Paul for your amazing inspiration
Paul was the true legend. So much sound he would get out of his play. It would always dominate the sound
One of the best guitar sounds and guitarists ever -- Paul Reynolds. And, the rest of the Flock are spot-on and terrific as well. I love this band!

AFoS would not (and is not) the same without Reno!!!
What? Did he pass??
My thoughts exactly so so right 😔👍❤

I heard it right then and there.Never understood the fuzz about the edge,.Paul was beyond him at the time (and still is)
i thought if i looked hard enough i would find this very comment. I agree. shame that it has taken this long to recognize his talents.
I was standing right in front of Paul at the '83 show in Dallas. That experience had a huge influence on me as a guitarist and music fan.
Always knew paul reynolds was talented but looking back at these videos he truly made music on that guitar...a legend !!!

Paul had such a great sound.
This is New Wave... And sounds as good and fresh as released today. Well, BETTER!
this song is excellent on the LP and waaaaaaaaaay better live 2 times I've been able to see it live and always thought it could go on for days

Glad he's still with us .
if i could turn back time i would like to see this band as they were.
I feel like if they would have done more songs like this they would have gone so much further
For sure, even Reynolds admitted they could have been the biggest band in the world. I agree.
The camera should have been trained on Paul's guitar the whole time.
A masterclass.
Can't take my eyes off Paul, mesmerising x

Amazing! Loved that back in 1982/83. Still listen to it today. My wife too.
Paul Reynolds - massively underrated.

Magnificent performance wish mike could tone his ego down and get the original line up back for 1 last tour...would be brilliant !!!
Mike is raking in the $$, and wants them to himself I think!!

the sound of paul reynolds Mark the difference . aka Charlie Burchill from Simple Minds the edge U2 very marked sounds

Ahhh Frank, Paul, Ali 🤗🥰 mike 😑
Mike in a bad mood?
No wonder - when you are going to be blown off stage by Paul Reynolds.
Time and time again.
Nah. Mike just extremely egotistical.
But I suppose if I had this talet i may be the same. It's all about perspective.

Why is Paul Reynolds not touring with the band 🤔

Paul Reynolds is truly excellent, but the true god of guitar is David Gilmore of Pink Floyd.
