- Here is the original Teaser Trailer for Star Trek Generations. It doesn't have any actual effects shots from the film and Kirk and Picard don't actually save the universe, but it is kinda cool.
love how all the space scenes are not even from the movie but the show
ZeroB4NG yup, the Romulan so blowing to was reused from one of the TOS movies...
VFX weren't done yet, hence why it's called a teaser.
I remember being quite shocked in seeing Kirk and Picard in the same scene when this trailer first came out. Since the Internet was in its infancy in 1994, the entertainment industry could still surprise most people. Today the entire plot of Generations would be all over the imdb before the film even began shooting.
I like how the trailer has an exploding Borg cube and the USS Bozeman from the TNG episode "Cause and Effect".... WTF? lol
I was an eleven year old trekkie when this movie came out. What I've realized as i grew older was that this project was driven mostly by sentiment, not continuity. There was a need to replace the aging original cast with the TNG cast in such a way that the original fans wouldn't feel cheated. No easy task. Also, remember that this was the first film of the franchise produced after the death of gene Roddenberry.
So that they wouldn’t feel cheated? Pretty much everyone agreed the send-off in Star Trek VI was perfect for the TOS cast, and honestly more people felt cheated that the TNG crew couldn’t have their own independent first adventure.
It was the first film produced after the death of Gene Roddenberry, but he had basically no involvement in the movies after The Motion Picture (and a contentious involvement in TNG that diminished after the first season).
The big deal in both Generations trailers, aside from Kirk and Picard meeting was DATA LAUGHING. It's like "Wow... what WON'T they do in this movie?!"
I know where this is from. It's the trailer for Star Trek Generations which was attached to the VHS release of Naked Gun 33 1/3.
Remember getting really excited for this film when I was 11.
At the time I was a huge TNG fan and liked the TOS films. (Bar 1 & 5). When I saw the trailer I thought it was gonna be Kirk going back in time to kick some ass with the Enterprise D crew.
When I saw the film at the cinemas I was already disappointed ten minutes into the film because all the Kirk based action I saw in the trailer that I thought was on the Enterprise D was on the Enterprise B.
The rest as they say is history.
This was a great movie and my favorite of the entire series of movies. old and new Cast.
So excited to see this in the theaters. "Hell yeah, Kirk and his crew teaming up with Picard and his guys! Gonna be epic". Then I saw the movie lol. "Can't these fuckers turn on some lights?"
I still remember the trill of seeing that trailer. Pre-internet, you only knew a movie was coming out by seeing trailers. And when the Enterprise flew over your head in the end, wow. The Enterprise-D never moved that fast in the show it seemed. Seeing it on the big screen...
I do still have a soft spot for this movie even if this movie isn’t the best Star Trek movie.
00:46 - Space battle from the episode Conundrum (s5-e14)
00:49 - Ent-D exploding from episode Cause & Effect (s5-e18)
00:54 - Two birds of Prey exploding in a star from episode Redemption Pt 2 (s5-e1)
01:04 - USS Bozeman emerging from the rift from episode Cause & Effect (s5-e18)
01:07 - Destruction of a Borg Cube from episode The Best of Both Worlds pt 2 (s4-e1)
What a way to lure the audiences into watching what could've meet one of the best films into nothing more than a boring film storyline basically treating a film like another TNG episode from the TV Series not an actual film
Riker firing a phaser at 0:51 was from the TNG episode where he had to kill "Uta", i believe
I have been waiting a while for someone to put this up! Thanks a bunch!
I was really annoyed they didn’t use any of Jerry Goldsmith’s music. They went with Dennis MCCarthy instead.
Incorrect. Some of the music right at the start is from TMP.
And how DARE they use the music from the composer who composed the music for the very film they’re advertising.
Smh
This is a great teaser trailer. Gets you excited to see the movie!
Not really. It looks like it has far too much "hollywood" action and not enough of what makes Star Trek great in the first place. The movie itself affirmed this assessment.
Only to be disappointed when seeing it.
I have to say, much better than the longer 2-minute trailer for Star Trek Generations I watched just now before I watched this one, especially the fact this trailer doesn't show how the Enterprise gets destroyed or anything, and it doesn't show too much of what happens, it's not just the whole movie compressed into a matter of minutes like the 2-minute trailer I watched. :-)
I saw this movie when I was about six years old, and obviously had no clue what was going on at any given time except when Data was doing something funny. I wonder if it's worth diving into now that Star Trek finally makes sense to me.
Watched Generations in Thousand Oaks, chomping down on a Ben and Jerry's apply pie ice cream on Christmas Day. Fantastic.
A time for big change, as well as a changing of the guard. One last chance to see any of the original cast in this film - apart from an extended appearance by William Shatner.
Some of theses clips were taken from other Star Trek.
I heard originally the full original cast were to appear in this film, but Leonard Nimoy refused, cos he was only offered a cameo role with no part in the plot. Then Deforest Kelly ("Bones") said if he's not appearing then neither am I, ect. Also, I guess it would have been a little difficult to script, cos there would have been like 14 main players, not counting Malcom McDowell, ect!
Yep... that's exactly where its from. I had seen it years ago when I rented the movie. I recently found a used copy and bought it to see if it was on it... Success! It doesn't seem to exist anywhere else. Weird.

Kirk's still the GOAT
I saw the movie last Saturday night it kick ass and I recommend that everybody see it.
It's also on the official Star Trek website. Simply go to the Series and Movies tab and find Star Trek Generations. Once at the movie's page on the website go to media. It's on the media page of the film. It should say "Star Trek Generations Teaser Trailer."
"But Mr. Director we don't have any SFX shots completed yet!"
"That's fine, just use stuff from the show, it totally won't imply a different movie which a much more epic premise."
Wow. So many shots in this that are not even from the movie.
This teaser made the movie look a heck of a lot better than it was. Too bad.
I'm also annoyed how the TNG movie previews kept stealing footage from other movies and the show.
Star trek at its finest
I Hope so
Never tell me the odds.
Why all the hate for Generations or Insurrection?? They should go right alongside Final Frontier. Not perfect. Not great but still darn good
I keep having to tell people this, but movies are different than TV, comic books, novels. The rules of engagement are not the same when you're making a movie, which is going to be shown on a bigger screen and people actually have to buy tickets for.
Bones was still alive by 2364 (Encounter at Far Point); Scotty was on his way to retirement but got himself stuck in a transport until 2368 (Relics). I think some of the books had Uhura as the head of Starfleet Intelligence during the Dominion War, and that Chekov was an admiral during the war as well.
So when does this clearly extended edition come out?. haha
Its listed on the box as a special feature, but I guess they couldn't get it together by the time the DVD released.
After so many years I’m still pissed on how disappointing this movie was for all the hype it received. No wonder “ Nimoy “ said “ thanks, but no thanks”
This could have been the best star trek movie ever but it definitely disappointed. I don't really hate it just could have been sooo much better. They definitely dropped the ball on this.
It didn't - that was the Soyuz-class USS Bozeman from the 5th season TNG episode "Cause and Effect"
To be fair, one of the three ships that picked up the Enterprise survivors was Miranda-class though
What’s the music at the beginning of this trailer from?
ummm a bunch of these scenes weren't from this movie. Like 0:55
if there are 2 things Malcolm McDowell will be remembered for, its Clockwork Orange and being the guy who Killed Captain James T. Kirk.
It's science-fiction / fantasy. If you do everything correctly to lead the audience up to whatever happens in the film, you can get away with anything. If you actually knew how to use art with film, you would know that Generation and even Insurrection and especially, First Contact did everything they needed to do correctly. From writing, directing, editing, acting, costume design, production design, etc. Many movies from 1970 to 2000 used these things correctly. Most movies after, not so much.
I don't remember that being in the movie...
It should be on the 2004 DVD release of the film but it wasn't (and I wonder why?!)
Milk-filled? Marina had a baby before shooting this movie??
I'd liked to have gotten in on that. :-P
While this is not the worst in the franchise, the trailer looks much more epic than the final result.
I liked it too, but it doesn't tie up the loose ends of what happened to Chekov, Scotty, Bones, or Uhura. Was this covered in some episode of The Next Generation? Don't worry about spoilers, I want to know!
I hate misleading trailers that show scenes of stuff that is not even in the movie like the ship from cause and effect, and the exploding warp necell that is also from the same episode
@darmokandgalad Damn, those are some wise words there. I don't see why people flame this movie, probably because they destroyed the enterprise D and killed Kirk, but I found it to be one of the greatest, if not the best, Star Trek movie ever made.
I kind of understand what you're saying. But, artistically, what the filmmakers did really helped draw me into the fantastical world of these movies. And First Contact is still the best of them all. So, you're not gonna change my opinion, with that lame ass argument.
Was this movie not shot originally in widescreen for theatrical release?. This looks 4.3 for the older televisions.
"Two Generations Will Meet" = Kirk and Picard fighting for 10 minutes on some rocky planet before Kirk is killed. They could have done so much more. Spock and Scotty should have been there.
Kirk should have at least set foot on the Enterprise-D.
Your right captainobvious9233
False advertising but still a great film.
@Dekkamaster365 Yep. From Cause and Effect.
They should've just made another Yesterday's Enterprise type story.
The writer of both this movie and that episode said if they hadn’t made that episode, they would’ve used the premise for Generations, just with the Enterprise-A instead of the Enterprise-C
@@martyjackson4166 Nobody ever said anything of the sort
So, basically, you're saying that you've never liked any of the Star Trek movies, besides First Contact?? I mean, the stories to Final Frontier and even Search For Spock could be considered ridiculous. So, what are you, a Star Wars fanboy, trying to tear down Star Trek??
Should I make a pony version of this?
No, I didn't say I think everything Star Trek is perfect. Why would you assume that I'm that stupid??
Anyway, my complaint is mostly the way you're treating the films. We're not talking about minor problems in your eyes. We're talking about minor flaws that so many other movies and shows have them, and you're blowing those flaws so far out of proportion that you can't find anything redeemable about that movie or show.
It's pathetic to expect that level of perfection.
data had quite a laugh there
They should have used the TNG theme for the actual movie than what they actually used. The score for the movie was pretty weak IMO.
Since I give Star Trek JJ a C- (maybe even D+) at best, we might not have much to argue over.
But its movies like this that drove the audience away from old trek. They bring kirk and Picard together just to have a fistfight in a rocky desert? To save a measly pre-industrial civilization that we dont give a rats rear about? These guys just had brain-dead imagination.
Soran should have tried to blow up EARTH'S sun. That at least would have made the stakes worth caring about.
Great movie, it doesnt deserve the hate it gets, but this trailer kinda sucks.. just makes it seem like an excuse to have Picard and Kirk together when it really isnt..
1:04 wasthat the Bozeman
I was really disappointed when they went with Dennis McCarthy's. I have the soundtrack, it good but I really wished they could have used Jerry Goldsmith music. I just didn't sound like TNG.
The soundtrack for the film was kind of sad when Kirk was on the horse and when he dies.
Major DISAGREE. Mccarthy did a phenomenal job IMHO. It's one of my favourite aspects of the film.
this was a sweet trailer. it actually made me want to see the movie when i was younger. too bad it turned out to be a piece of shit
I Like this Movie, but it wasted to much Potential!
They did that, but why do you give a shit? It's a trailer!
" trying to tear down Star Trek??"
If you legitimately thought Trek had legitimate flaws, you never would have said that.
Generations is nowhere near a "minor" flaw. Killing off Kirk for such a worthless goal was one-dimensionally stupid. That is a MAJOR fuck up. Absolutely major.
You didn't actually pay attention to what Data said about this star system. Veridian 3 is where Kirk died. Veridian is populated with a pre-industrial society. But, seeing as though the film is shot in some Earthly location, it's importance is still present. If they were bad films, the filmmakers would've used some horrible CGI facsimile like the Star Wars prequels.
Thats no reliant, thats the Bozeman.
well i would imagine that Shatner has realized what a mistake he made in not taking that cameo offer so now hopefully they will have him in the next one and if they do a third, Id like to see George Takei or Walter Koenig. Its too bad that DeForest Kelly and James Doohan couldnt be around to make any appearances.
This movie hasnt aged well at all. Watching it now its nothing but a glorified episode, and a C+ one at that. Horribly unimaginative and an utter waste
Your opinion. I think Generations has aged much better than Abram's new Michael-Bay-style reboot crap.
Three of the Four TNG movies sucked. So we're mostly mad at the missed opportunity of it all. They had 7 years of TNG to learn what was a good story and what wasnt, only to serve us shit on a shingle 3 times on the big screen.
I didnt like Star Trek JJ either, for entirely different reasons
Generations was 17 years after Star Wars, waaay past the sci fi grace period (if any) for Star Wars. Not to mention that the entire run of TNG also occurred after SW, and those episodes are actually good.
The larger problem here is that you have the Generations writers, who wrote decent episodes that entertained fairly well during the TV run. THEN give them a movie to write, but its the most banal and imaginationless thing they ever wrote for the show. How did that happen?
I disagree this movie was fantastic
Man, teasers used to suck.
Personally, I HATED "Star Trek Generations" because it was such a total downer. I found the plot to be a waste of creative energy by the writers and I am still AGAINST the death of "Captain James Kirk" as one of the examples of those writers who think they have taken liberties with Gene Roddenberry's creation of the "Star Trek" characters and concept.
The problem isn’t killing off Captain Kirk, it’s shoehorning him in and just having get killed in the most anticlimactic and least heroic way possible after having barely done anything. You really don’t need Kirk in this film with the way the plot is written.
@@martyjackson4166 - Well, Marty, I guess I can agree on that sentiment.
wtf Reliant?!?
I think you're far too fucking picky, my friend. After Star Wars, a film riddled with problems, in and of itself, science-fiction, fantasy and horror was given a little more optimistic leniency. People started to love that genre. Why does any sci-fi film after Star Wars have to follow any rules of engagement??
I loved the TNG show. I'm still trying to get them all on Blu-ray. And I love the movies. Why am I wrong for enjoying them both, equally??
If the film had Spock and McCoy instead of those "two other guys" and if there was more focus on Kirk's final act it might have been a better film.
Leonard Nimoy didn't like the script for the movie. That's why he didn't appear. Also, he had a role but it wasn't Spock. He said that even if he played a different character. No one would know the difference.
+MythicMage Plus, DeForest' Kelly's medical insurance was a factor as well.
Urvy1A I heard something about that. And Deforest Kelley was supposed to retire after Star Trek VI, I think, I thought it was a good movie, but somehow it felt like a TV special of Kirk meeting Picard. I liked the concept of Kirk and Picard teaming up, but they could have done better.
Generations has its moments, and is it worst Star Trek film of Next Gen. movie era - of course it isn't. The aspect of the 2 captains meeting and as a team wearing their respective era Starfleet uniforms is its own piece of Star Trek history, if only they had made a better story in the movie to support it! Excelsior class on screen again, who would say no to that. But gee's that trailer is prime example of the trailer being way better than movie itself effect!!
This movie... HOW?
HOW can you screw up Captain James T. Kirk, the rough-and-tumble wonaizer and explorer, meeting Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the intellectual and diplomat, in a movie?!?!
HOW?!
Luckily with the Trek reboot they have another shot... sort of. They will have to, eventually, just out of public demand I think, do something about Shatner's Kirk.
Which means going back to the old universe- Picard's universe.
Save Data. Save Shatner's Kirk. Give TNG a good sendoff.
Huge disappointment of a movie. Kirk meeting Picard being wasted on a desert mountain.
This trailer looked like it could have been a great film. I just saw this trailer after the movie.
Continuity from a dumb TV serious?
Face it, folks as great as The Next Generation was for a TV serious, it was still a TV serious, no different than Ally McBeal or Lost. These movies could prove to be more. And I think the TNG movie, First Contact is the best of Star Trek, period.
And Star Trek by Abrams includes a goddamn ad for Nokia. So, why the hell are you people so pissed about these TNG classics?
lol. it's better then the movie
If Kirk was going to die on a bridge he should have been on board a starship and not along some rocky cliff. But with Rick Berman and Brannon Braga fucking around with the franchise there was no hope of this movie ever succeeding. Shatner should have stayed away from this.
You bet the rules are different. Rule #1 is obvious
"The stakes have to be higher."
Which 3 out of the 4 TNG movies bellyflopped on. Basing the death of KIRK for god sake on a measly pissant primitive planet (whose people we never even see) was ridiculously worthless.
Why is a "fistfight in a desert" not lame, but its lame for me to bring it up? :/
I think you'd be hard pressed to name anything "artistic" about generations in any form. It used recycled sets, boring alien planets, and B villians. Even Brannon Braga (the writer) is on record as saying "its full of F ing plot holes."
If he doesnt defend it, no one else sure as hell should. If you were introduced to trek by these movies, you might be too young to remember what TNG was like when it was good
What exactly was fantastic? The bazillions of plot holes? If you listen to the commentary on the dvd, even the writers agree it was pretty much a botched operation.
Nemesis wasnt as bad as the other two, but 3 out of the 4 were disappointments, yes.
Bringing up the TOS movies is A WHOLE OTHER TOPIC. For another board. This is a TNG thread, so I talk TNG.
"tear down" I'm sorry but do these movies suck or not? Are you trying to say that nothing with the name "trek" stapled to it has ever sucked at any time??? Every episode is A+? Every movie 4 stars? And there's no grounds for any criticism of any kind?
Thats retarded and you know it
Terrible teaser to go with a terrible movie.
