This was great. I have had the camera for about 6 months and I hate reading directions. I found it a little complicated not wanting to read the directions. The best thing about this video was you told me to just leave it on Auto and go! I have researched very extensively and I know this is a really great camera now I can start enjoying it. Thank you. great job.
I've been looking forward to getting this camera, but I don't think it matters if it looks blurry before you take the picture. As long as the pictures are clear, it doesn't concern me.
We are looking at buying this camera. My wife said with our other Canon you need to press the button down part way to get the view clear then look at it then take the shot.
I agree. I apologize for that, learning as I go. Your 100% right about showing the actual features and even talking about more detail. Hopefully my video improve. Thank You for your feed back.
I stand corrected. I do notice the battery was blinking but as far as the screen being foggy/blurry before taking a picture is that way all the time. (even when fully charged) Someone commented below and said all cameras are like that. It does not effect the out come of the pictures at all, they are crystal clear.
I wish you could have taken some pictures during a sunny day. I think pictures come out clearer when it's bright and sunny and should fix the "foggy" problem people are mentioning.
Thanks for the video John. The camera on my Samsung Galaxy S4 is SO good that I haven't bothered to use this beautiful camera that my husband gave me as a gift. I was considering selling it on my EBay store but I WANT to use it, so I started looking for videos on how to get the most out of it and YOUR video convinced me to keep it.
To me, the first photo and the bridge photos seemed a little foggy. You did mention that this camera takes crystal clear photos. But I'm hoping that was because of cloud cover?
With all of that said about each camera. I personally would go with the SX 500 IS because the look of it is alot better then both the Sony Cameras you mentioned and the fact that it is $100+ cheaper then the Hv200v and $50+ cheaper then the Hv20v I do not see to big of extra specs on them Cameras to spend the extra money. But again that is all up to my friend to make the final decision. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I did find out that on all Canon cameras prior to the photo taken look blurry/foggy/grainy (lol) but once the photo is taken and you look, it is crystal clear.
The idea of a wifi sd card is if you are at home, within range of you network, you can set it up automatically upload your picture to you pc, tablet, phone etc. SanDisk has partnered up with EyeFi.
No man, don't feel bad at all. You are right and it will help me with my future videos. I'm so glad you ordered it, I really like the camera. Check out my Car Show video to see the pictures I took with it. As far as the wifi sd card, I never heard of it but sounds awesome. I'll have to look into it.
Hey, I kinda felt bad after I posted. So happy you took no offense. By the way, I get mine tomorrow!! I wonder if you or anyone has ever tried wifi sd cards?
Good question Swed, that camera you are referring to is really nice. It has full 1080 while recording and the canon is only 720 while recording but everything else is pretty much the same. So it really comes down to the price. Look up both cameras and see what the prices are and if you can get the Panasonic for the same price or cheaper then get that one but if the canon is cheaper there is not a good enough reason to spend the extra money since the specs aren't better.
well not a bad video and at least you are honest about the things you are not sure of and i respect you for that , however my only problem is that for about 90 percent of the video i was staring at the camera on a table and i would of liked to see you show more of the menu navigation
You also should check out,the really Cool,Nikon L820 Coolpix Super Zoom,it also has 30X Optical Zoom,FULL HD 1080 30p video recording,in stereo, high resolution 921K LCD-LED back lit display monitor and 3D photo capture capability plus many other nifty settings and features,it is a VERY GOOD automatic point & shoot, with a few manual settings thrown in for good measure,it uses a CMOS sensor that allows for better low light recording of photos & videos with lower noise levels at all ISO settings.
I'm brand spankin new to all of this Camera bizz, but would really like to start up. This Camera seems to have the most bang for your buck and has some excellent reviews. I would just like to know, if you wanted to get more serious about photography, would you be able to buy different lenses and change them in this camera? Would you want to? Thanks fellas.
To be totally honest with you either of the Sony cameras you listed would be better. The Hx20v because you have more features for about the same price range. It shots video in 1080p instead of Canons 720p,Shoots faster, better battery life and my favorite thing the HX20v has that the Canon doesn't is the GPS built in. I like to see the location of where the picture was taken.
i liked the review, im looking for something decent in my budget and came across this one. I agree why all the name calling? Im sure his intentions were just to express his delight on the purchase. No need to attack someone who is only sharing his buy and opinions.
I would go with a lithium Ion rechargeable battery pack camera over a AA Battery camera just because I personally feel as tho the AA battery cameras are cheaper. On this camera I can't really give an opinion on the life of the battery because I don't use it every day. I probably haven't used it in a month or more. I can say the couple of times I did use it the battery lasted the whole event.
I wouldn't suggest this camera for shooting videos. Pictures are nice but as far as video the zoom sucks and I couldn't figure out how to get the light to come on in video mode.
Just got it today, shocked about how blury/ dotty the quality is before taking a photo. Tapping the focus button doesn't make much of a difference. Was going to return it but looks like it's the same on all them. Already have a cheaper canon camera and not as blury as SX500 :(
Congrats for keeping your cool. The second I heard you say 'blurry' and 'foggy' I knew you were gonna get it from the 'serious enthusiasts.' The new SX510 is just so much better with the Cmos sensor....
I'm concerned about the Battery for this camera. Is this Lithium Ion battery very long lasting or not? Do you consider this a concern verses a camera that takes AA Batteries?
That all depends on what you need it for but I would say yes the camera is worth the money even tho your phone takes photos/videos. I use my phone for everyday pictures but when I go somewhere I bring this camera with me. Check out my car show video, all the photos are from this camera and you'll see why it out performs phone photos.
Oops, I meant, how is the image quality when taken in low light? I have a baby on the way and am looking forward to buying this camera and am *hoping* great quality in low light :) Wouldn't want to use flash on his face.
I like the Camera alot so me personally would keep it and be happy with it. I'm not sure what the price of the camera is now but look around and if you see it cheaper else where and havn't opened it yet, then sure return it and get it where it is cheaper. Either way it is a great Camera.
most cameras are rubbish when it comes to concert sound unfortunately but you could do as i do and use a pro audio recorder like the ZOOM H2N which is stereo and surround as pro musicians use it and then when you get home you put it into a vid edit program and where you see the camera audio , you put the audio into the vid edit program and line em up and when in sync you delete the camera soundtrack and your left with the audio from the ZOOM H2N and save it and job done . look for review
I will let you know in my next video. I usually use my Sony Bloggie to record them but will be using this camera for my next review. Check back tonight or tomorrow.
This was great. I have had the camera for about 6 months and I hate reading directions. I found it a little complicated not wanting to read the directions. The pictures was very clear. and the video zoomed in on the ducks very nice. Can't wait to get started. I received my camera today.
I agree. I apologize for that, learning as I go. Your 100% right about showing the actual features and even talking about more detail. Hopefully my video improve. Thank You for your feed back.
That blury camera is normal. Mine one has the same thing too
I stand corrected.
It was a very clear day. I had pictures of my car but RUclips was blocking video so went with these photos.
Glad to hear that! Thanks for the comment!
To me, the first photo and the bridge photos seemed a little foggy. You did mention that this camera takes crystal clear photos. But I'm hoping that was because of cloud cover?
I bought mine today at Best Buy for $199. Can't wait to try it out!
Just bought mine from QVC. ($228.00) Love it so far! Nice video.
I did find out that on all Canon cameras prior to the photo taken look blurry/foggy/grainy (lol) but once the photo is taken and you look, it is crystal clear.
I took some night photos and they were dark without the flash but with the flash they looked great.
That is a nice camera as well. I love how it has the wifi built in so pictures are uploaded right away.
Macro mode is close up mode. The mode you would use to take pictures of flowers insects etc.
I'm glad you ordered, I hope you enjoy it and I appreciate you thinking the review was helpful. Thanks!
I'm getting this camera tomorrow and I'm wondering. What's the difference between this and the Nikon one
Hey, I kinda felt bad after I posted. So happy you took no offense.
By the way, I get mine tomorrow!! I wonder if you or anyone has ever tried wifi sd cards?

Yeah I was worried about the blurriness as well but take great pictures.

Just some constructive criticism... I read the first comments (this one) and as soon as I saw you didn't know what a macro was, I skipped the review.
And yes it is normal to be foggy when you are taking pictures
I personal would go with this camera becuz the Fuji has bad reviews on the speed and sensitivity of the image sensor.
i liked the review, im looking for something decent in my budget and came across this one. I agree why all the name calling? Im sure his intentions were just to express his delight on the purchase. No need to attack someone who is only sharing his buy and opinions.
I agree, I like it too. Can't wait to check out the videos you made with it.
You can not change the lense on this camera. For the price and what is does it is priced perfectly.
Absolutely. As long as you have the phot/video editing app on the pc.
You do get the strap but you can not change the lenses. This is a all in one camera.
DUDE SAME
I'm currently using a toshiba camileo x400 but i want an actual camera for pic too...
Sorry Jay, I scrolled the comments but I don't see any question. How can I help?
I would go with a lithium Ion rechargeable battery pack camera over a AA Battery camera just because I personally feel as tho the AA battery cameras are cheaper. I Got This Camera For Christmas. Pictures look better with flash.
Glad you like it, don't listen to the haters. Enjoy!
i have the same question lol. only thing i don't like about the l820 is that it takes AA batteries.
Cool Shot of FDR but i wanted to know if you can add your own flash
Sget with me and i'm from South Philly
YES just got this today and I already love it messed with it all day
my canon ixus 240hs is also like that , "fuggy" before take the picture but clear after taking the picture
maybe every canon camera....
good review especially with the photo and video examples at the end, that helped the most!!
I think this camera is perfect for amateur use and if photos taken in the right light and steadiness they will look professional.
Good question, I will look into it for you.
Thanks for letting me know that. I feel better knowing it's not a defect.
I just bought it and I would maybe like a tutorial video if you could...
I wouldn't suggest this camera for shooting videos. Pictures are nice but as far as video the zoom sucks and I couldn't figure out how to get the light to come on in video mode.
Im looking to buy this camera and would like to know if you would recommend this one for daily uses not professional pictures.
Just got it today, shocked about how blury/ dotty the quality is before taking a photo. Tapping the focus button doesn't make much of a difference. Was going to return it but looks like it's the same on all them. Already have a cheaper canon camera and not as blury as SX500 :(
Yes it does have the option to have date and time on photos.
if there is wifi can you live stream videos from that camera on youtube? Sorry if I am way off ... Just thought because it said "Live" Thanks!
this camera is awesome! YOU WONT REGRET! plus... the price is UNBEATABLE!
I know you can use different filters with this camera so mess around with it alittle more and read the directions.
how good is the microphone
Gosh, and where to get official Canon batteries, cases, straps. Even the Canon website is out of stock on batteries!
is this Canons newest camera? if not whats the newest canon camera?
I agree, a camera that takes batteries seems cheap to me.
Congrats for keeping your cool. The second I heard you say 'blurry' and 'foggy' I knew you were gonna get it from the 'serious enthusiasts.' The new SX510 is just so much better with the Cmos sensor....
Those are really nice pictures. You could be a nice photographer.
Just bought it and i think it is pretty good
its kinda weird when you see it online the pic of it
but when we see it in real life its small ???
I'm concerned about the Battery for this camera. Is this Lithium Ion battery very long lasting or not? Do you consider this a concern verses a camera that takes AA Batteries?

It's on sell at best buy for 199$ comes with camera bag and 8 gig memory
Does camera record video?
Absolutely, it is a great camera. You'll like it alot as I do.
I'm getting one soon! So excited! How did u get the 60 times zoom, cos I would want it.. Thanks!!
I don't see why not if your just taken still photos.
Im thinking of getting this camera. This or the Fujifilm fine pix s4800. Which do you think would be better c: ??
I don't think it is the newest camera. I tried searching what their newest one was but no luck. Sorry :\
Yes it is smaller because it is a compact camera.
Thank You I'll have to see if that's what it is.
Getting mine tomorrow!!
To be honest I am not sure what Macro is. I'll have to get back to you on the night mode. I haven't figured the camera out fully yet.
I'm not 100% sure but I know you don't need a mac becuz I use on both PC and Mac.
Mine came with the memory card but if it doesnt you can find them as cheap as $15.
Oops, I meant, how is the image quality when taken in low light? I have a baby on the way and am looking forward to buying this camera and am *hoping* great quality in low light :) Wouldn't want to use flash on his face.
Install CHDK on the sd card and this camera gets even better
I got this for Christmas and it has the foggy vision before I take it too... I think it's normal
I personal don't like making videos with this camera becuz I use my Sony Blogger but there is no reason why you couldn't. sound and video are great.
Getting mine in a week $275 can't wait
I would compare all the pictures. It could of been acouple different things.
Does this camera also have the feature to switch from vertical to horizontal when viewing the pictures on the camera itself?
I like the Camera alot so me personally would keep it and be happy with it. I'm not sure what the price of the camera is now but look around and if you see it cheaper else where and havn't opened it yet, then sure return it and get it where it is cheaper. Either way it is a great Camera.
Not sure what Freedom mode effect is, sorry.
awesome,im thinking of getting my daughter one
That's great to hear Shaun! There is a Link in the description with big savings on it.
most cameras are rubbish when it comes to concert sound unfortunately but you could do as i do and use a pro audio recorder like the ZOOM H2N which is stereo and surround as pro musicians use it and then when you get home you put it into a vid edit program and where you see the camera audio , you put the audio into the vid edit program and line em up and when in sync you delete the camera soundtrack and your left with the audio from the ZOOM H2N and save it and job done . look for review
Oh, one more thing...In the video of the Geese, at the arch (still photo), how did you manage to get it to zoom at 120X?
I will let you know in my next video. I usually use my Sony Bloggie to record them but will be using this camera for my next review. Check back tonight or tomorrow.
Did you figure out how to turn the light on while recording?
Yes, you control the zoom.
Thanks, it means alot to hear!
One question. Can I print pictures from this camera with date they were taken?
I like it. I been using it acouple months now and it takes great pictures and videos.
how is the image quality in low light for taking pictures of say, a newborn baby?
