Does the photo display on your pc? It might be your card. I had a problem with my Fuji SLR camera that I got error messages and I could not see the image on the camera but it worked perfectly fine on my pc.

I have this camera but I am a total novice, last night I took a zoomed pic of Jupiter and got an okish picture on auto focus and x30 zoom, you can see 4 of it's moons but I had the ISO set on 1600, now after watching your great vid I think I should have maybe used a much lower setting on the ISO?

How about the battery life of this camera? How long time can record videos with fully charged? This is CCD camera, isn't it? I heard that CCD lens consumes more power.
I don't which camera to recommend for good HD video at this price range. You can look at the SX50hs which has got better quality video. It does have a higher price than the SX500is. It's always best to move as slowly as possible when shooting video because of the rolling shutter, even on your higher priced cameras.
I own this camera. I use it for documenting my lab work. This is without the zoom. However, I am curious, does 30x optical zoom mean 30 times 24mm or 720mm equivalent? I have an Canon 2000D with vintage lenses and cannot imagine what a 720mm zoom lens would cost. Do I understand this correctly?

Hi, Some published SX510 HS is the best second SX50 HS, third Panasonic ZS20, Fourth SX170 IS and go on, what do you think, which camera on the market can be economic for low budget and come close to SLR quality? How do you record your audio and how to merge into your video, which equipment and software do you use?
Havent used all those cameras so cant really give you any feedback on that. My audio is recorded with a lapel mic and an external audio recorder. I can move around and my audio always sounds good. The audio is synced in Adobe Premiere.

I bought a Nikon Coolpix L22 for my 1st camera in years (I've not taken pictures since my Polaroid Land camera) and it did very well but my girlfriend bought me this Canon Sx 500 is for Christmas and I must say that the quality and features are very well worth what she paid for it. I bought my son this camera. He's been having problems with the focusing. When he is in macro, and he zooms in really close, the camera won't focus on it, it keeps zooming in and out, like it doesn't know what to focus on even though he's right up to the flower.
I just bought one of these from Oxfam's online website and am super happy with it. Yes, it feels so nice in the hand despite it's light weight. It will be used on a tripod, so your point was totally valid. How much did I pay? £60, that's all. It's a bargain!

If you take care of the camera it will nod need maintenance. Your local camera store will have lots of camera bags that will fit the camera perfectly and the accessories you decide to buy. It will be best to go check it out:)

Hi Rupali, I am also looking to buy one of them this week, according to me Canon SX 500 is a better option as compared to Nikon L820. The biggest disadvantage according to me for Nikon L820 is that it uses Alkaline battrey which makes it very tiresome job to recharge battrey everytime. The another thing is that Nikon also does not support 30X zoom. Let me know your thoughts on this, it would help us both. Thanks
Ravi Bhadresa Actually having a option of alkaline battery is a plus point ... so you don't have to carry one more thing when you travel ... the batteries are always available. That is the reason we went with Nikon :)

***** Nikon is 1080P v/s Canon is 720P . Nikon is great for taking casual pics, and easy to use for everyone. but cannon is good if you want to do more than casual...but both cameras are good.

I've been having a problem with being able to save the videos I record on my camera. After recording a video and pressing the record button, my camera displays "Memory Card Error" and shuts off. I'm not sure if it has to do with the memory card of the camera but I can't find a way to fix it. Any help would be appreciated! :)

It will depend on the quality you are after. The camera has got a macro mode so you can shoot close up flower images with it. You just cannot compare it to a SLR camera with a good macro and zoom lens. Have a look at the SX50hs which is the bigger brother to the sx500is.

I have the same camera and was wondering about the time lapse. Whenever I do a time lapse of the sunset, I get a vertical purple line right on the sun and screen! hope you can answer.
It depends how good you want the audio. The camera does not have an external mic input. When I shoot videos I use an external audio recorder which I keep in my back pocket. Then I use a Lapel mic which I attach to my shirt.

Yeah high ISO can make your picture very noisy and just not good

Your ISO is maybe on auto so when you shoot in low light it increases the ISO too high and that is creating noisy images.

I have not used the coolpix camera. Try a website like dpreview and compare the two cameras.

Time lapse or long exposure? It sounds like lens flare.
When I time lapse the sunset, there is a vertical purple line that goes on the sun.
