So interesting to hear how the Pennsylvania Dutch hex symbols have provided inspiration!! Your story further confirms my suspicion that many Norwegians ultimately return home from living abroad. Can’t blame them - such a beautiful country!!!

Yes the Pennsylvania Dutch call those hex signs. It was originally to fend off witches.

I live in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania German’s (“Dutch”) paint hex signs on their barns. At times when I hear some of the Scandinavian dialects, it reminds me of the sound of the PA Dutch speakers.

I noticed the English call box tin on the shelf, and thought Oooh, Dr Who fans, til I realized it was the wrong colour! LOL I love your shows and your tutorials, even though I'm not really a knitter. In my mind, I was putting those patterns on fabric, and "sewing" myself a sweater. I especially love the tea towel roses pattern. Also notice a new Rex begonia on the table!!

I grew up near Lancaster PA which is very Amish. The signs are called hex signs from the PA Amish via their German heritage. Small world. Love these new designs.

I very much enjoyed my trip to Lancaster and Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania several years ago. Beautiful country. The Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford is breathtaking. My family really enjoyed all of the delicious Amish meals we had in and around Lancaster and Strasburg during our stay. We were there around this time of year, when so many homes were decorated for Halloween.

We used to have those towels with embroidery to cover kitchen clothes too. My grandma had them and she was born in 1908. I still have three of those "over towels" in my collection and I even have the shelf with the barr. :-)
