I would be interested in a series on how to design an entire basic sweater: Body, sleeves, and collar. You explained very clearly today on how to determine the number of stitches necessary for the front panel/body. Follow up instruction on how to design a sleeve (Number of stitches and where to increase/decrease) as well as constructing the collar would be great

I do a swatch for gauge, but even more so to get a fabric I like: the denseness, the look of the stitches, the feel of the fabric for how heavy or light I want the garment to be.

I love how Arne is so excited for the yarn, how it feels, how the swatch turned out, and nevermind there isn't time for the sweater and there's the risk of creating a UFO! I like the idea though that you each make the same sweater in different colors, then you have a total of 3 that you can "borrow" between yourselves, and/or mix and match!

I had never heard of brioche stitch & initially wondered why you would be making a sweater with enriched bread. So I looked it up & spent the morning practicing until I got the hang of it. I love the effect it has on the wool, making it soft & bouncy. I am going to knit a baby blanket with the flat brioche, I'm not brave enough to try doing anything in the round. Thank you for introducing me to a new stitch. Best wishes from 🇮🇪

I have recently started using a software program called Custom Fit which allows me to generate a pattern based on my measurements and knitting gauge. I have found that it’s essential to wash your swatch to get an idea of what your finished fabric will be like. I dry the swatch flat; taking measurements before and after. I then hang up the swatch for a day or two weighted down at the bottom with a knitting needle to mimic the effects of gravity. This gives me a good idea of what the finished fabric will be like and prevents me from making sweaters that stretch out of shape. This is critical to me as I use superwash yarns which tend to grow unless I knit them at a tighter gauge.

At the moment I like "Raglan from the top" the most. You knit it as 1 piece and needn' t too many time to sew the rest of the garn. Now, may be, you have inspired me, to knit the next pullover in your way and in brioche. My husband will be happy. 👍😁😁

At 10 years old I knit a cardigan with help of my mom, and now, I wanted to be able to accomplish this, but using aran style, and cables. If I can make sweaters and cardigans I will be thrilled. The sleeves and collar is what I don’t know how to do. I knitted on straight needles, working with DP or magic loop would be new to me. And assembled everything in the end.
I need to learn brioche. The yarn looks beautiful.

What a coincidence! I’m in the process of knitting a classic sweater for my husband using Rowan alpaca DK in Eclipse. It’s an old pattern which I’m adapting to knit in the round, bottom up. It has an interesting cable detail running along the armhole seams and I’m still undecided whether I will do a standard raglan or a saddle shoulder. The yarn feels absolutely beautiful with a soft drape. Should be a very snuggly sweater when finished!

My mother and all her sisters ( my aunties) were all prolific knitters, everywhere they went, their knitting bags went with them ..the sound of the ‘ clickerty clack ‘ of the needles, their chatter and endless cups of tea, were the sounds of my childhood (which was a long time ago ! Lol) however when watching you two knitting I am instantly back to those wonderful days. I would love to knit that beautiful jumper but as mum always used to say “I was like a cow with a crutch when knitting !😂 sadly I still am ..( however I can draw a fairly nice picture of it 😃..so it’s sit and not knit for a bit for me 😀.My husband thinks it’s so bizarre for us to watch a knitting channel when neither of us are knitters ha ha I wonder how many other non knitters there are watching 😀😀

You have so many likes when it comes to crafts You also have such an innocent and beautiful soul. Carlos, you are steadfast in what you like and don't like and it thrills me to see such honesty. The world lacks honesty and it's so refreshing to listen to you in the thrift stores. You, I think, are very confident in what you are capable also just as Arne is too. I have so many questions!😁 I know I’m late here, but I agree with all the comments saying we would love to have more. I think an Arne and Carlos Basic Sweater KAL would be amazing!

Thanks again! Arne I love the Looney Tunes shirt! It matches my compter screensaver. I'm still a newbie knitter switching from Continental style to your style. Love hearing and learning from you. Inspires me try new things and even if they turn out wonky, as Carlos says there is no knitting police 😊

Bamboo needles are much better than metal for my arthritis as well.

I know your sweaters will turn out great! Love the colors you chose. I'm working on a two color brioche scarf for a Christmas present. ❤😘

Thank you for this very helpful tutorial! It has been a long time since I've knitted a sweater, but never in brioche. Also love to work with alpaca. Will be fun to make one soon!!

Arne, you are a knitting machine! If I had to knit that jumper, the first thing I would do is.....doubling the yarn 😁 and use nr. 6!

This is exactly what I was planning on doing next. Funny thing is that I always have knitted a swatch (in order to calculate correct # stitches for correct size) but never knew it was this formal process. To me, it just makes sense. I always unravel it, though, and knit it in; I know some people wash and block them. I am too impatient.
I am watching Beck right now - really good TV.

Lovely and helpful video! That yarn is beautiful! Recently I've been working with bamboo needles, they're surprisingly comfortable and strong too. Also I agree with both of you about brioche/colourwork if I can avoid purling i'll without a doubt 😂
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!🌻✨
