I scrub my potatoes, poke a couple of holes in them with a fork, rub with olive oil and put them in my instapot on a trivet after I added my cup of water to my IP. I cook on high pressure for 30 min. They come out fluffy on the inside with soft skins. I can cook one or a whole pot this way. Even sweet potatoes ( 25 min cook time) My husband loves them this way.
I've been looking for someone who cooks like me for so long so I'm glad to have found you! The way you cook appeals to homesteaders, farmers, or just those of us who are going back to basics. THANK YOU!!
After washing my potatoes, I dry them and coat them with olive oil. Then I bake them as usual. My family loves them! I also scrub them and rub with oil and put them in my crock pot for an afternoon. I put just a bit of water in the bottom so my crock won't be dry. This is my favorite, no fuss way to do it.😅
I also wash, coat mine in olive or avocado oil…. But I also put a generous amount of salt all over the skin. I put them on a sheet pan and bake at 400 for about 45 mins. Perfect every time!!!
You're absolutely right Adeline about the shepherds pie v cottage pie. Shepherds pie was originally made the day after having an oven roasted lamb leg roast. Farmers wives would mince the leftover lamb roast meat and put it through the meat grinder and maybe with any veges leftover would mix it together with any leftover gravy from the drippings, and then top it with mashed potatoes and bake in the oven. No cheese was involved, and certainly no ground beef. We had this on a weekly basis usually on a Monday or Tuesday as a kid as we lived a farming life and mum always did a roast mutton/lamb on a Sunday, as it cooked slowly while we were at church. Later on as people on tien wanted to make a similar thing, ground beef was used, but because it was beef it was called shepherds pie, as shepherds look after sheep not cows, so it was named, and still should be, Cottage pie....and more often than not also includes cheese on top. I'm from New Zealand....and as I said we had it very regularly as kids....and I've also made it most of my life, doing the same thing....btw, I wash and stab my potatoes and just pop them in the oven, on the rack, no tinfoil. I love the crunchy crispy jacket, but my son hated this part, so we just washed a stabbed them well and popped them in the microwave instead, for around 5 mins to start with then added extra minutes as needed. This way the skins stay soft. Hope that helps ❤❤
Oh for the days when roast lamb was a weekly meal here in NZ. Likewise grew up with the leftovers put through a hand mincing machine to make the shepherds pie.
I make chicken shepherds pie, with potatoes and mixed green beans and corn, and a little cheese on top I like that the two times I’ve seen you do a shepherd’s pie, it hasn’t been the same exact thing. This one you used mushrooms and last time you used sweet potatoes. Mix it up is my favorite way to do cooking.
In Australia sheperds pie was made from left over cooked meat, including beef and lamb the meat would shredded mixed with onions, worstershire sauce and other condiments, salt, pepper and some liquid. It was then heated and topped with mash potatoes etc. I make a vegetarian version and still call it shepherds pie, so i dont think it matters 😊
I scrub my potatoes and dry them. I rub them with a little olive oil and sprinkle with some kosher salt. I either bake or air fry them. The skin is slightly crisp so you may not care for them but they are so good.
Hello, I'm a new subscriber to your channel. You came up on my RUclips feed and I am so happy. I thoroughly enjoy your content. I've gleaned a lot from you already. I'm looking forward to having time to binge watch all of your videos. Here's wishing you all the best.
A way I’ve found that makes amazing baked potatoes, wash them, coat them in olive oil with salt and pepper. Give it a couple stabs and bake till done. Your so inspirational with all your canning! Also 2 suggestions on cane sugar is Costco and Azure.
I make baked potatoes in the instant pot. Wash the potatoes and poke them with a fork every few inches. Put the rack into the instant pot and pour some water to almost reach the rack. Place potatoes on rack and pressure cook for 23 minutes for medium potatoes. And I usually do a quick release. You can then rub them with olive oil and coarse salt and broil in oven yet, but we just add the butter, salt and black pepper at the table.
Crockpot baked potatoes! They are simple and come out w soft skin. I never use foil. Just wash them and put them on low or high depending on how much time I have.
I still call our shepherd's pie, shepherd's pie. But ours is different than yours slightly. We put gravy in the beef along with corn then yop with mashed potatoes. We had this on saturday and its always so good lol
If you have an Instant pot, baked potatoes are so easy and delicious in there. One cup of water in the bottom, then a trivet, place the potatoes on top of the trivet. High pressure for 12 mins, natural pressure release for 12 mins, the. Quick release the rest. The skins and potatoes are so tender!
I really enjoy learning from you! For the potatoes..I use my air fryer. They come out amazing and I get great feedback when I bring them to gatherings. After cleaning them, I coat them in olive oil salt pepper and garlic powder and set them at 350 degrees for about 20 min. It takes some figuring but the skin get a nice crispy texture and the potatoes are creamy on the inside 😋
These are my absolute favorite videos ❤ what a perfect end to my busy day. I use my microwave to make baked potatoes. My microwave has a potato setting and the come out perfect everytime. Thank you so much
Hi! My family is Pennsylvania Dutch and we've always made Shephards Pie with ground beef 😊 Thx for sharing another video with us. Meal prepping is def a huge part of my day.... makes a big difference.
My mom always just pokes the potatoes with a fork and then stuck them right into the oven on the grate to bake 😂 I never really ate the skins but I do remember them staying soft besides the ends of the potatoes
I know I'm a few months late 😂 but try slow cooker (Crockpot) potatoes. I prefer my skin crispy but you said you want soft skin so slow cooker is my answer. Everything looks so delicious 😋 Leanne x North Yorkshire, England
I have a fabric envelope for baked potatoes. We roll the potatoes in a damp paper towel before putting in the envelope. Two regular size bakers take 10 minutes in the microwave on high-less time for smaller potatoes
Love your posts! You must have a really good sized refrigerator, if you put all of these in the fridge for the week. I'd probably put some of that in my freezer and pull it out during the week. I have a pound of hamburger, in my fridge, that I've been trying to think what to do with it. Shepherd's Pie...here I come!
Actually we bought our refrigerator this past year and decided to spend the extra for a larger one. We live a little further away from town, so having the extra space to store things is so helpful!
Bake your potato in the instant pot…. Put the potatoes in a dish above the water level… I pressure cook them for 28/30 minutes, depends on size… works beautiful… but I am usually making two large since there is two of us… :)
I don’t know if you have an air fryer, but some of the best baked potatoes I have EVER had were scrubbed, dried, rubbed in oil and sprinkled with pink salt and then cooked in the air fryer. The only take 30 minutes or so depending how big the tato is but the skin is crispy like a potato wedge and the inside is perfect!
I use a wet paper towel with baked potatoes instead of tin foil. I do this in the microwave so I’m not sure how it would hold up in the oven but it’s worth a try. Thinking about trying my terra cotta roaster pan too to see if that works in the oven.
I have done baked potatoes in my Instant pot, in the crock pot and also in the oven and I never use foil. In the IP/crock skins are soft, if I bake in the oven I top with olive oil and salt for a "crispier" skin for a twice baked style potatoe.
I love your videos, my little dog almost died from eating pork. The vet said it’s dangerous for small dogs as it can cause pancreatitis. Hope this helps
For baked potatoes I put them in a 9x13 cake pan after puncturing them. Add water to the pan and cover with foil cook for 1 1/2 hours or I place them in the pressure cooker for 13 minutes on high pressure. That's for about 8 potatoes med to large russets.
Is cane sugar better than white sugar? Cane sugar is the type made from sugarcane. The sucrose molecules in both types of sugar are identical, so scientifically there isn't much difference. Like all types of added sugars, cane sugar is usually linked with negative health effects like weight gain, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
I use my insta pot for our potatoes. Don't wrap them but just stick them in for 5 to 10 minutes depending on size. It makes the whole potato so soft!!!! It's amazing!
I do baked potatoes in my instant pot. I have a trivet for my IP. I wash my potatoes, poke them with a fork and then place them on the trivet and pressure cook them for at least 20 minutes or more depending on their size. They turn out great. Sometimes I sprinkle a little garlic powder on the potatoes just before pressure cooking. I make my own tomato sauce and I use it for everything.
I do my red potatoes rubbed with olive oil salt & pepper and bake. They are also really good cooked in the microwave put them on a plate poke your holes start them 3 minutes flip and cook until done. They turn out nice and soft.
Use what they call a baked potato bag it’s a quilted bag you throw them in the microwave and the skins are nice and soft. Just make sure you rinse the potatoes first and don’t dry them off.
I’m not sure how you feel about microwaves but, I wash the potatoes and stab them with a fork. Wrap them in Saran Wrap and put them in the microwave. They come out soft and delicious.
I would try to bake the potatoes in a ,,römertopf‘‘ ( Roman pot) . I don’t know if it’s popular in the US , but it was in the 70/80‘s here in Europe. A Clay pot that is soaked with water, put the food in it and the lid upon and stick to the oven. Some people like that especially especially for making chicken. Because the food is cooking in its own moist and flavor. Didn’t try it , but I think it would be good for that potatoes.
I love everything you show us and appreciate it so much. The freezer meal is so amazing my issue is the uninterrupted prep time. How do you keep your kids busy so you cN have this time? My boys are wild.
We switched to cane sugar a few years ago. Sams club used to sell Zulka Morena Non-GMO in large bags but they sadly did away with it. We buy the 8 lb bags at Walmart now (cheapest per lb) so far. Just found you yesterday after Megan from a Megan Fox Unlocked mentioned you in her Honey I’m Homemaker video. Love your cooking style and appreciate the recipe ideas/inspo!
Do you already have videos on how to do your canned onions, tomatoes and chicken?I have so much of each.I have a electric canner and need to put it to work.
Do you put the meals you prepped in the freezer or the fridge since you’re making them that week? I’m trying to start meal prepping like this and have no idea where to start. Thank you for sharing this!
I don’t know if this would work with red potatoes, but I oil the outside of my sweet potatoes and bake them uncovered. This helps the skins just peel off.
After washing your potatoes, you can put them into a tight dutch oven or any kind of tight oven dish with a lit with a small gush of water, so that the buttom of the dish just is covered. Bake them with the lit on at around 200 C for about 30 Mins depending to the size of the potatoes and they may be delicious without foil or to much attention of the cook 😊
I scrub my potatoes, prick with a fork, rub with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt. Bake at 400 until tender. Time will depend on the size of the potato
Love your meal preps! Just a note from a vet's kid--pork fat is super not great for your pup.
If you put the cheese box grater on its side, it’s a lot easier to shred your cheese.
I've been looking for someone who cooks like me for so long so I'm glad to have found you! The way you cook appeals to homesteaders, farmers, or just those of us who are going back to basics. THANK YOU!!
If you have a lidded cast iron dutch oven, baked potatoes turn out perfectly without foil.
The rain looks so refreshing. Here in Oklahoma rain is needed so so bad.
Thanks for a great video.

I make chicken shepherds pie, with potatoes and mixed green beans and corn, and a little cheese on top

I love to watch you cook.
I love your videos! They are so helpful! I also like the idea of using flavored wraps instead of flour tortillas.
For the Shepard pie I put cream corn on top of the beef with peas and corn over that then potatoes and top with cheddar cheese. Omg game changer
The enchiladas look so amazing!!!
I’m also from central PA. We call it Shepherd’s pie also. And it has ground beef.
I make baked potatoes in the instantpot. So good!!!
If you have an Instant Pot or crock pot you can cook baked potatoes that way. They are delicious! That's the only way I make them now.
We call it shepherds pie either way because depending on what’s been processed we use that meat source. Lol. We raise sheep and cows (and meat birds)
We always do our baked potatoes in the croc pot. Add water to the bottom and basically just steam them.

Shepherds pie at our house is made with ground beef, green beans, tomato soup topped with mashed potatoes and shredded cheddar. My family’s favorite!
Hi! My family is Pennsylvania Dutch and we've always made Shephards Pie with ground beef 😊 Thx for sharing another video with us. Meal prepping is def a huge part of my day.... makes a big difference.
Shephard literally means sheep herder. Not sure what being Pennsylvania Dutch has to do with it.

Wash potatoes poke holes put in instant pot with veggie steamer basket set steam button 25. They come out fully intact and soft.
I love these videos. I run out of inspiration for meals for the week and this gives me ideas.

Shepard maybe a New England, northeast think because we make Shepards pie with hamburger too but we had a layer of corn over hambuger
Yum.. they all looked delicious. I like the idea of small dipping sauce. Cool
I just wash/dry them and put oil on the skin and put them directly on the oven racks. The foil makes them steam potatoes.
I use my insta pot for our potatoes. Don't wrap them but just stick them in for 5 to 10 minutes depending on size. It makes the whole potato so soft!!!! It's amazing!
This is also how I do mine and we love them This way
I instant pot mine as well turn out perfect every time 😊
I was going to say this! Great for potatoes!
Can you give more detail on how you store your food for the whole 5 days do you freeze or store it the fridge.
I do baked potatoes in my instant pot. I have a trivet for my IP. I made baked potatoes yesterday in the air fryer. I just washed them then threw them in on bake for 20 minutes on 400.
You always inspire me. I love your cooking videos. I love when you can and do long term food stuff. This was fun. Ty Adaline.
I do my red potatoes rubbed with olive oil salt & pepper and bake. They are also really good cooked in the microwave put them on a plate poke your holes start them 3 minutes flip and cook until done. They turn out nice and soft.

'Baked' potatoes in the instant pot are great and quicker! I just poke a bit, add evoo and salt, and place on trivet with water below.
I’m not sure how you feel about microwaves but, I wash the potatoes and stab them with a fork. Wrap them in Saran Wrap and put them in the microwave. They come out soft and delicious.
I love your videos, thanks! ❤️
You are so welcome!

I was wondering if I could freeze enchiladas. Good to know ❤
I wrap my potatoes in parchment paper before I wrap in foil & use reg. Foil instead of heavy duty.
I love everything you show us and appreciate it so much. The freezer meal is so amazing my issue is the uninterrupted prep time. How do you keep your kids busy so you cN have this time? My boys are wild.
I just oil and salt potatoes, and put then directly on the oven shelf, dont even use a pan, always perfect.
Instant pot for soft skin baked potatoes!
baked potato: we put them in the microwave first to soften, then bake to crisp up a bit... Pork idea: cafe rio sweet pork copycat recipe is DELICIOUS
After washing, rub potatoes with oil put on sheet pan and cook for 45 mins to 1 hour
try to use san marzano tomatoes instead of table or generic roma. they are much sweeter. no need for sugar.
You can also wrap in parchment then foil over it.
We switched to cane sugar a few years ago. Sams club used to sell Zulka Morena Non-GMO in large bags but they sadly did away with it.
We buy the 8 lb bags at Walmart now (cheapest per lb) so far. They sell 6 lb bags at Aldi but cost per lb is higher.
But this is my area in Eastern NC. I buy bags of it to fill up five gallon food buckets. I rotate two. When one is empty, start the other and then i have time to refill the empty.
Thanks for this info!
Hi! I recently found your channel and and loving it. In your kitchen you have different size jars storing different things and on each jar is a flat wooden desk with a knob. Can you tell me about those please. I've seen wooden lids for mason jars, but I've never seen lids for the type of jars you are using and I've never seen the little round knobs on the top. Do they have like a silicone edge to keep whatever's in the jar fresh (are they airtight?). Thank you again for making these interesting and fun to watch videos❣️
GOLLY GEE Adaline, I did not know you cooked in this way. FOOD LOOKS DELISH; Thanks for the recipes. STTB*SHARED TO THE BURGH*.
You can make baked potatoes in the IP without foil!
hey adaline! I love these type of videos! would love to see more ideas with ground beef if you have more :)
also wondering what camera you use to film with? thanks!
Love your videos! I make my baked potatoes in the crock pot. I rub olive oil on the skins and they usually turn out tender . 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your recipes and ideas. We call it Sheperd's Pie here as well and the best mashed potatoes are made with a good old potatoe masher! ❤ Take care and cheers from Ontario Canada.❤🌷🍁🌿
Yes!
Where in the world did you get those precious salt and pepper dishes with the wooden tops? ❤
Here we do beef + layer of corn + mashed potatoes. You should try it! :)
Scrub potatoes and poke holes in them. Mix water with salt. Roll potatoes in the water and salt then bake.
Just found you yesterday after Megan from a Megan Fox Unlocked mentioned you in her Honey I’m Homemaker video. Love your cooking style and appreciate the recipe ideas/inspo!
Aweee! Thats awesome! Welcome!
Love your videos.can’t wait to see the recipes for the canned items in this video.
I enjoy potatoes in my steamer.
Maybe you can try it with wet baking paper...maybe it works
In the UK, we call it Gammon and Pineapple
Your apron is beautiful.
Thank you!
East coaster here. We also call it shepherds pie - cottage pie has never come out of my mouth lol
I do my potatoes in the microwave on some paper towel!
Can you share your sweet pepper relish recipe? It looks so good! Thanks!
I will sometime soon!
I don't love using tin foil either so what i usually do if i need to use it is line the food with parchment paper and then wrap it in tin foil after.
I scrub my potatoes, prick with a fork, rub with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt. Bake at 400 until tender. Time will depend on the size of the potato
