- SCP Explained is bringing you SCP Foundation anomaly SCP-999, also known as "The Tickle Monster". SCP 999 is a Safe-class SCP under the SCP Foundation's containment.
Description: SCP-999 appears to be a large, amorphous, gelatinous mass of translucent orange slime, weighing about 54 kg (120 lbs) with a consistency similar to that of peanut butter. Subject’s size and shape is easily malleable and can change shape at will, though when at rest, SCP-999 becomes a rounded, oblate dome roughly 2 meters wide and 1 meter in height.

When I was about 8 years old, I was diagnosed with depression and severe anxiety. After I discovered SCP-999 I prayed every night to be able to interact with him. That was, before I found out he didn't exist. Coming from a sociopathic, and mentally abusive mother and sibling, being able to feel calm while doing simple things like put my dishes away and walk out of my room feels like I met SCP-999 already.

from parts of its description you might start thinking that through super prolonged contact, that 999 might cause some psychological damage due to some kind of "happiness overload" but it doesnt, it is, in every way, benign, there is literally nothing you can dislike about it, nothing to fear, nothing to hate, just a big ball of love
Wow! I thought that like the SCP might bring this numbness to people who were in grief or something. Like they make them happy by taking away their feelings. But no I don't think that's the case! I feel like if SCP 999 met someone who really needed to cry in order to feel better, they would cry. And then afterward, SCP 999 would still be there to help them.

I love how there was a file on SCP 999 as the best in all caps, because that really describes him perfectly. And the fact that he's already powerful enough to calm 682 despite only being in his infancy, just goes to show how much more powerful he could get as he grows.the best part is, he could quite possibly end up neutralizing the greatest threats with nothing but love, kindness, and of course his fondness for tickling

When I heard "tickle monster" and saw the gelatinous shape, I was afraid to hear that this SCP would relentlessly tickle you and would be impossible to separate from your body, resulting in endless tickling, which would get exhausting quickly. It would be one of the worst forms of torture I can imagine.
Thankfully it s a friendly creature :)
The fact that just hearing about this thing makes me cry with cuteness overload just proves that the extent of its effect it's beyond our own human understanding

In the last 25% of the video, I've learned that this SCP is the main character.
Ever since my daughter died in 2015 I've suffered with depression and GAD just watching this video has made me feel happier than any medication or therapy has even come close to. In a very real sense scp999 is real and I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon it. Eldritch cyclopeian horrors of the darkest imaginings can't touch this little ball of pure joy!

I think the reason why 999 was not fully turned into a monster was the way Procedure 110 Montauk, the containment procedure for 231-7, was carried out. The ritual called for the girls to be beaten, abused, and broken to keep the monster inside the womb for as long as it needed. But the Foundation, in a stroke of genius, figured out that the ritual doesn't actually need these actions to be performed. They merely needed the emotional responses such actions would cause. Disgust. Horror. Fear. Anger. All the associated negative emotions. That is why 110 Montauk was kept so secret. They wanted people to ASSUME what it was because those feelings would manifest and fuel the ritual properly. In reality, 110 Montauk was simply taking the girl to bed, reading her a bedtime story, and tucking her in. But only a few nurses, the overseeing staff, and the chosen D class to read to her (always purposely chosen to be as big, brutish, and as horrible a past as a criminal can have) actually knew this. Everyone else was just allowed to have their imaginations run wild. I like to imagine the lack of actual abuse lead to 999 being so....nice.

I think I can see what 999s role in the Skarlet Kings plan is.
If this creatures power is to rise as it grows, and given how it induces euphoric feeling to beings within its range it could be that eventually it will cause a "positivity high" that will become disabling with people being in too good a mood to even fight anymore as they just relax and chill with the good vibes.
With a world without conflict or negativity apathy can set in causing beings to peacful, with no need to develop more weapons or technology that could be used to fight the Skarlet King. Also a greater concern is if humanity becomes dependant on that source of positivity, that if it ever was removed or cut off the whole world might succomb to a dopemine crash leading to worldwide depression and sadness.

What’s interesting is that, according to some theories, it is possible that 682, 999, and 053 (little girl who is “friends” with 682) are all actually siblings: it is hypothesized that all 3 of them are the products of the SCP-231 brides of the Scarlet King (the rest were terminated by the Foundation).
Meaning: all 3 of them could literally be siblings, sharing their father’s blood: one is pure hatred, one is a powerful influencer of evil, and the last is a powerful influencer of pure love and joy.

The tickle monster and the young girl should be permanently moved into Scp-682's containment cell. Instead of trying to kill 682, which has been proven time and time again a failure only worsening his mood; they should try to permanently pacify his murderous tendencies by keeping him around beings he loves and expresses happiness towards.

@@nomekop777 Also, Scarlet King is contained. Scp-682 is NEVER contained, even if he is, he isn't. 682 can leave WHENEVER HE WANTS! Without resistance? NO. Is he allowed to? No. Then why? Because he CAN!
Plus I don't think the Scarlet King would kill one of his six children that will destroy humanity/Earth if allowed. (Scp-999 is the seventh, but he doesn't want to hurt anyone, he just wants to see the world in peace.)
