I just discovered your youtube channel and live your tutorials! I’ve been doing appliqués the “old fashioned “ way, just purchased a scan n cut. When you showed that I can design it into a raw edge embroidery…..🤯. You aren’t hero!!!!
each time I watch your scan n cut process, I learn something I missed before. I have no idea how I missed what I learned, but I did. Thank you for going over it each time!!
A great project for the Scan N Cut! There’s also a beautiful table runner in the book “Tantalizing Table Toppers” by Judy Gauthier. She has the clamshell template there; it would be so easy to create with the Scan N Cut! 😘
I really appreciate your videos like this one. They cover a variety of ideas that can be applied to various projects. I always find something I didn’t know or understand.
Miss Becky, you give me such hope I can use all these machines I keep buying 😅! I really want to try a project using my embroidery machine, my scan n cut & my sewing machine, but frankly I don’t have the slightest clue where to start to look for a project 😬. I basically want something not too big but big enough that it gives me really good practice 🧐. I don’t have the Cadillac of machines, but I hope the ones I have will allow me to stretch my creative wings & learn more! Thank you for your willingness to share your knowledge & experience, it is truly a blessing!
I would recommend starting with a Kimberbell project. They have the very best instructions and are designed so that even a beginner can have success. Their little mug rug collection is the perfect choice! amzn.to/3AJIfOF
😂 Easy for you, but I’m just learning my Scan N Cut and Canvas Workspace. I’m thankful for you, Becky! I’d love to have that Solaris, too, but I may not have enough years (or $$$) left to learn all that. My dear little PE 800 is still chugging along, but certainly limits my projects. Fortunately, I have lots of garment projects too. 💗💗💗 Happy day, happy quilting, happy sewing!
Becky, sometimes I swear you are a mind reader. A friend gave me 6 blocks with the fabric applied with H&B. I was thinking about the best way to applique this and - just like that - your video popped up last night. Perfect time to use my new CutterPillar light box to trace the pieces and Simply Applique software, both for the first time. Can't wait to see how it goes. Thanks for your great instructions.
Becky, this was very helpful. I don't have the Scan N Cut...yet but am hoping to get one soon as I do a lot of appliques but cutting out by hand right now. I have the Babylock Flourish 2 so not all those fancy wireless conveniences but believe I can make this work for me. Thank you for bringing us along - so very helpful!
Wow, so much really useful info in this video. I recently bought the NQ3700D and received the BES Blue Edition software with purchase. I had no idea how powerful this software was until I watched your video. I can't wait to play with applique and my SDX330D Scan n Cut.
YAY!!! You will LOVE this process! Even though you can't scan with the 3700D, in the BES Blue you can still print out your design on some DIME Print & Stick target paper, trim it to fit, and then stick the paper exactly where you want your embroidery machine to stitch the applique. www.shop.dzgns.com/products/print-stick-target-paper?_pos=1&_sid=8fa2183c2&_ss=r?p=S1z1p1FgS
That's kind of what I did with the bunny nose - creating a design from nothing. I'm not much of a digitizer, but the Luminaire Design Center worked for me this time. The order of steps are: use a shape to create a canvas to work on, decide what type of stitches you want - either line drawing or fill stitch inside that shape, and then fill the shape with the paint bucket or drawing on the screen. That's about the extent of my skills. lol
That was a very good tutorial on the BES,Scan and Cut and how they can interact. I have a question after you do the BES and send it to the Luminier instead can I send it to a USB and put in into my Dream Machine 2. Will that work?
Off subject! I love your new logo and your new tshirt design! Are there tshirts in your shop to buy, yet? I love wearing my pink tshirt. It is so soft and comfortable.
I always enjoy watching your videos. Do you know if I am able to do all of these functions with a Brother Stellaire and a SNC SDX 225 and Simply Applique, or do I need that Design Transfer app and an SDX 325 you mentioned? Thanks.
Can you iron on the applique first and then line up to stitch the tack down and satin stitch? I thought you could so I have already done the ironing but can't figure out how to line it up to the appliqued fabric for stitching.
Hi Becky….thanks for these videos on the scan n cut. Do you have a video that shows doing these in layers? Chemo has struck me dumb and I can’t wrap my head around one they are SVG files how you get them into Simply Appliqué , put them together and line them up for sewing? I think I got the cutting part and making them SVG, it’s getting them to Simply Appliqué then to the machine……..thanks
Hi Becky love you tutorials! Do you use a digitizing program? I have a brother scan n cut and was wondering is it worth buying simply applique compared to others. I get logos from family to embrodiered on their shirts. Do you think just scanning and using canvas and simply enough for this
If you will be using logos to digitize, you might want Embrilliance Stitch Artist. You can import images into that and 'trace' them to create stitches. bit.ly/3qIPMa6
That is Lori Holt's Chicken Salad! I loved making that quilt. The pattern is free on Riley Blake's website. I have an entire playlist for making this quilt. www.rileyblakedesigns.com/assets/images/sewalongs/CookBook/CookBook_SewAlongGuide.pdf
I have watched your videos and was excited to download the appliqué program. My fabric does not stick to my mat. I have a regular sticky mat, brand, new and one used. I have fabric down and heat and bond light up covered with paper. The fabric will not stick. Any suggestions?
There are many differences. I wrote a blog post on this topic awhile back. powertoolswiththread.com/2020/07/18/whats-the-difference-between-embrilliance-and-simply-applique/
Thinking of buying a scan n cut. I don’t currently have any embroidery software, I use Macs, do I need to purchase software to be able to covert pes files to svg cut files for appliqué?
In order to save the SVG files that you can make in Embrilliance, you will need to purchase at least Embrilliance essentials. I have a link below the video that you can get.
Thank you for your great tutorial. I’m a bit confused…when you put the fabric that has been backed with heat and bond or SF101 on the SNC mat, does the heat and bond or SF101 always go toward the mat? Or was that a special type of mat? Thank you.
Yes, anything that can be done on the Brother Luminaire, can be done on the Solaris. They are virtually the same machines. You'll use IQ Design vs. the Design Center.
Yeah, we skipped SC because Lisa came here instead. She had a voucher she needed to use. So we headed from St. Augustine to Birmingham at the last minute. Sorry to have missed you!
Becky, what is the name of the iron you are using for the steaming process? Also, what was the top of the line Brother machine before the Luminaire? Thanks
My iron is the Sapporo Gravity Fed ironing system. I've had this iron for 6-7 years now and it never spits on my fabric because there is a condenser that turns the water to steam before it gets to the iron. Pro garment sewers use this iron. It's in my Amazon store. As to the top of the line before the Luminaire (XP2), next to it today in the lineup is the combo Stellaire (XJ1), but before that was the Dream Machine 2. amazon.com/shop/powertoolswiththread

Yes, you can download the .fcm file to a Mac - meaning, the download function itself will work. However, Embrilliance doesn't allow the import of .fcm files that I have seen. If it does, please let me know! The box packaging for both BES4 & Simply Applique say they need to run on a Windows OS.
