    I just got a new SNC and it's the DX 330D model Inovis Ready. My old SNC has mats that are less sticky and I had a fabric mat on it that was just right for my process of Steam A Seam Lite 2. I peal the paper off the piece of fusible and adhere it onto the back of my fabric piece and press it so the the fusible transfers to the back of the fabric. Then I put my pieces of fabric on my mat and scan it with the file that I made in Canvas Workspace with my applique pieces (not mirrored). I make sure the file pieces that are fabric have all the shapes that are needed in the applique on the corresponding pieces of fabric and hit cut. I use a setting of 5 on my blades. No real problem, but the new mats are DX and they are crazy sticky. I will not get used to it for my work. I am considering stripping a sticky DX mat and adding Zig to it for the less sticky. I got no training in the new SNC DX and that rotary blade really tore up my fabric.Ugh

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  2 года назад +1

      That rotary blade is really for cutting things like lace or other odd fabric where an angular cut might be made such as making a flower out of organza. I don't have one and don't think I need it since I mostly use it for cutting quilting cottons. I don't recommend doing an un-sticky on your DX mats. I have an old CM model too so I get where you're coming from. Since I made this video, I switched out to adding HeatNBond Lite to the back of my fabrics (adhere it VERY well) and then using the teal low tack mat with fabric side up, HNB side down (no paper). That seems to work the best for me. If you use the purple or gold mats, you want to mirror the image and put fabric face down, HNB side up (paper on). The gold mat isn't made to be used with a substrate at all. I rarely use mine.

    • @karenlynnwheeler
      @karenlynnwheeler 2 года назад

      @@PowerToolsWithThread interesting about the rotary blade. I was told upon purchase to only use it for quilting fabric. It is what to use. I noticed on a smooth undulating circle it chattered up and down like it was going into a fit! I removed the blade and put into the autoblade. It really cut and the problem was my paper down on the mat was sliding. So failure!!! I pushed it to the back and pulled out my trusty older working model and cut as usual.

The purpose of doing this is so there isn't any show through on the lighter fabrics on the dark background (I'm doing the Nativity Bench Pillow).

    is there a length limitation set by machine size on how long the fabric can be ?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  Год назад

      Depending on your SNC model number, some machines will not cut on a 24" mat. Only some scan the 24" mat, some will cut on it but not scan it, and some won't scan or cut on it. So the mat length determines the fabric length.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  3 года назад

      Actually they replaced it with the 225F (F is for fabric) and they want you to use the gold blade and gold fabric mat. The 125 doesn't have to be purchased at a dealer and has many less features than a 225 that were important to me. I'll put a link below to all of the differences between the 125 & 225. But if you can get a 225, go for it. It's identical to the 225F with different accessories included in the box. Be sure to get a deal!

      There's not a way yet to send a design from the SNC to the Luminaire unless you use the My Connection feature. I've done a video on that. ruclips.net/video/KVJurRKeeik/видео.html

    What if I want to do needleturn applique rather than fusible? Will the ScanNCut cut fabric on its own without the fusible backing? Will it fray when I try to get it off the mat?

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  3 года назад

      Yes, you can do fabric cutting without having a backing adhered to it, but I would use Terial Magic to stiffen the fabric first. You need to get the fabric to be as "paper-like" as possible so it will cut smoothly.

    Hi, I have the brother innovis v3 and the pe design 11, can I transfer from the scanner &cut files to the pe 11 and transfer to the v 3? I would love to see if you could make a video. Thanks for all your wonderful videos !

      Are you talking about transferring designs wirelessly? I don't see the ability of the v3 to have a wireless capability. Of course, you can always use a USB since the machine has a USB port.

    Thanks for this tutorial. I do have a question about flipping to mirror image. I noticed you choose flip horizontally. Would flip vertically work for mirroring too? I'm wondering if sometimes that would make more sense based on the shape? Also, at my age... I think I will always be asking myself horizontal or vertical. It would be nice to know if it doesn't really matter.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  3 года назад +1

      That is a fabulous question! Flipping horizontal will give you a mirror image which is what you need for the applique cut files. If you just flip vertical, that's only top to bottom and won't give the correct alignment as a mirror image which you need a left to right flip to make it correct. :) So yes, it matters. Always flip horizontally.

    • @jodiegould7102
      @jodiegould7102 3 года назад +1

      @@PowerToolsWithThread okay that does make sense. I think I can remember that if I'm looking in a mirror I am not looking at my image upside down. That should be able to help me keep it straight.

    I have the one you had before this one, the 650. Is it worth upgrading to the DX? I am still in the learning stages of the 650. The DX looks like it is more user friendly. Is this correct? If you have the time and could answer these for me it would be super helpful.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread
      @PowerToolsWithThread  3 года назад +2

      The biggest difference between the two is that the DX does its own depth measuring so generally a test isn't required. Also it is much more quiet and they made the gold fabric mat for it. The user menus are about the same with some updated icons as well but I wouldn't call it more user friendly. I do like having the half-cut menu option in the wrench at the end vs. having to do it before entering the cut menu. That was a pain to go back when I forgot to do it. You can see I'm a pro at forgetting to change out my half-cut option. lol

    If you have been unable to hook up wireless, can you just save to a stick and transfer?

      Yes, absolutely. You can save the svg files to your computer, transfer them to a USB, and then take them to the machine and pull them in the Retrieve Data button and choose your USB.

    • @PowerToolsWithThread

      It might look like that in the image part, but if you look at the dimension numbers, they both change. That's why I don't enlarge in the Canvas. It's too easy to distort the image.

      While I can appreciate your thoughts, I have to completely disagree! It seems like a lot of work if you're just starting out, but if I wasn't talking through it, I could have it all done in less than 10 minutes for the entire quilt. Cutting each piece after the tack down stitch is such a pain. :-) But that's the beauty of it - "To each his own!" Right?

    I just cut out all the appliqué pieces with my Scan N Cut SDX230D. I bought it specifically to precut appliqués but I have never used it before for that purpose. My question is regarding placing the Heat N Bond side face up. When I did this, and scanned the mat into the machine, I couldn’t see where each piece of fabric started and stopped. On your video, your pieces seemed to have different shading to them. Mine all appeared as white. I increased the size by 400% but it was still hard to see. I messed up one of the watermelons. Anyone have any suggestions? I did subscribe to Alanda Craft but I don’t really have the time to go through the classes. I’m freaking out that I won’t be ready. This is my first quilt.
