    I liked your video a lot! Suggest that you try scanning in black and white first, then if the contrast isn’t enough, switch to color recognition. 90% of the time, I get great results with the black and white scan, no matter what color the image is in. Impressive demo with the birds!

      Great tip! It makes sense that it would see the contrast better in B&W. I will definitely try that. Thank you.

    Be careful when you're bending the mat like that. If you get a crease in the plastic it is almost impossible to flatten it back out! I had some new mats shipped to me that got all bent up due to poor packaging. I tried flexing the mats back in the opposite direction by as severe a crease they had. I had to stop because I thought the mats were going to split apart. I'd already gotten 2 new replacement mats. I was told to keep the damaged ones. If the crease is near the end of the mat like mine are it still leaves you with plenty of useful mat space to use. But if you ever had to run the mat all the way through it might cause collisions with the scanner or misfeed.
    No need to rely on the stylus as you can control the screen with your fingers and finger nails. You should turn the beep notice back on because it makes it alot easier to know when a button press on the screen has been registered. At least at first until you figure out the proper amount of pressure needed to actually "click" or press the onscreen buttons.
    For regular copy paper or printing paper you should be using the low tack mats. Standard tack mats are way too sticky to be used for this sort of work. Or if you're going to use a standard mat at least use one with some wear so that it is less tacky.

    I have to "ditto" what some of the other gals have been saying. I started my electronic cutting life with a Cameo and got very frustrated with how it cut images. Irregular outlines etc. Then I went on to a Cricut Air which I quite liked and found easy to use. Finally, I upgraded to the Cricut Maker. I love the machine for what it does. But, I find that lately, I am doing more fussy cutting from DSP and it is very hard on my wrists. And, I don't do a very good job! 😉. So, I have just ordered this machine today. I have watched some videos and I am finding contradicting information about what mats are included with the machine. Could you clarify that for me please, and tell me if I need to order some different types of mats? Thanks. 🙂

    I'm also confused on how did u get your image to print so does it print the image or will I need a printer that uses sub ink or does it operate like Cameo meaning import the image and it'll scan and cut it the way you have imported the image from software like Photoshop?

    New subbie. Thank you so much for uploading. This was a great video. I'm old and have zero tech skills. I've wanted one of these machines for a long time, but I saw a demonstration on a PBS show which uses various Brother products, and the cutting machine they had was connected to a computer and there was so much activity just to cut out an image, I knew I'd never figure it out, but your instructions were beautiful and simple. I don't mind fussing cutting, but the results are never perfect. I make journals, and now I really want one of these. So, I'm going to start a scan and cut fund. What was really funny, though, one of the ads they showed during the video was from Cricket, who claimed it was the best on the market .... I have a color laser printer -- worst buy of my life. It's a Lexmark. The toner cartridges cost between $85 to $125 and they do not last at all, and there are no compatible ones on the market, and you can't refill them. To use it, I'd have to purchase four new toner cartridges at nearly $400 -- I'm saving for an HP -- but images printed with a laser printer on presentation paper are so beautiful anyway, this is icing on the cake. I also do decoupage, and this is a game changer.

    Have just begun looking for scan and cut machines (got interested from watching TV selling channel "Create and Craft" where they used a Brother Scan and Cut machine. There were also many items of images for sale, i.e., on USB or on printed papers which offered dies for cutting (they are expensive and am retired on fixed income). Because of this excellent demo, I now understand that I will not have to buy the dies if I buy this machine. I will have to research what materials I might use and which ones this machine will cut. Thank you for a clear and step-by-step explanation of how easy this is to use.

    I love your video tutorial on scanning and cutting individual graphics. I'm new to scan and cut. LOL haven't even used one yet but I have one available to use from a crafter friend. I have a cpl of questions please. For the cutouts you did in the tutorial is there a way to cut out the silhouettes of the same stickers so they be layered to give them more depth? With die cuts you just run them through several times on white paper and stack them.
    My second question is can I scan and cut images like chinese paper cut designs where I want all the white areas cut out not just the outlines? Also can I cut heavy watercolour paper? I'm dying to try all these techniques out! I have too much money invested in my Silhouette to purchase another machine but Silhouette's picscan function is just too complicated for cutting a lot of images!

    • @fabcraftsandmore
      @fabcraftsandmore  4 года назад +2

      Kariatid Gaiasdotter when you scan an image to cut it out you are able to save the scan as a file either to your computer or directly to the machine. You can then run your other paper through to make your silhouettes for layering. It will cut thicker papers like watercolor paper. I believe you can cut materials 2-3mm thick. You can adjust where you want the cut edge to be. You can leave white around the edges or cut inside the outline of the image to get rid of the white. I also have a Cricut that I had before getting the ScanNCut, but really wanted the scanning option that Cricut doesn’t have. I use both machines depending on the project. I hope this answers your questions. Thanks for watching!!

    So can you scan an image and then use that cut out image to cut vinyl? Do you use a separate printer to print out the images?

    • @fabcraftsandmore
      @fabcraftsandmore  4 года назад +3

      Kimberly Prentice you do need to print your images using a paper printer. You can draw, stamp or use images from book page too. Pretty much anything you can scan well you can use. Once you have your images scanned you can save those “outlines” and use it to cut other materials like vinyl, HTV or paper. Hope this helps.

    i though cricut maker was like that but no, kinda upset that still i need to cut my images
    coz using cricut was forcing me to edit and adjust the size which i already used Word so
    makes me impossible to print and put on cricut .
    i want something can scan and cut the sides thats all,cricut do a bit similar but force u to use their own app
    which s annoying and impossible to adjust the sizes from other app .
    example
    i wanna make paper dolls that already is on Pinterest app and i downloaded and edited using Word
    because the pic was big also deleting the background, i have no printers so everytime i have already things to print
    i go to the library is like half hour from home, and cricut cant print either scan only cut which when i tried to cut
    Cricut showed me a massive size of my pics which i needed to make it smaller and cut but was impossible coz i tried
    sizing with a ruler my doll pics😂but cricut change the size to make it smaller or larger😂.
    i cant even guess the size also only shows in inches, i cant put it into centimetres 😂.
    Cricut may s cool but don’t recommend if cant scan . I want a simple easy machine not just paying 60$ montly and also extras $$$ for different emojies or handwriting stuff😂to download .

    I just wanted to say thank you for the simple to follow instructions. I have had my machine about 4 years and it has gathered dust. Any video I have watched, left me feeling lost and uneasy with attempting to cut items out. Today she gets dusted off and used. Also moved to an area where my mat can go from one end to the other.
    I make cards for cancer patients every year, all year. In my rush to get more done, I had not taken the time to search for easy to understand instructions. I truly wish brother offered zoom classes so we could interact with a person. I know there are others out there who are gathering dust on their machines as well. I reached my goal of making 5000 cards this year, along with cards from other crafters added as well, so I had some time to waste. Thank you truly.

    Thank you so much! I never knew how the scan and cut works! I can see this as my Christmas gift this year!
    How often do you have to change the blade?
    You’re right- stamping dies are ridiculously high. If I only need my stamps I think this is a game changer! Thanks for your demo, you made it look easy!!

    Thanks for the detailed and clear video. Are you able to access/control the scan and cut interface via your computer rather than via the tiny screen on the unit? I noticed on the second bird there were some white areas that were missed at say the top of the legs and around the smallest details, is this something you can adjust for, or is it easiest to just clean it up with a scalpel after. Thanks again!

    Do you have a tutorial of how you scanned in one image and made it appear on the paper 10 times? Was that done on the Scan N Cut or someplace else? Secondly, how do you get it on sticky paper (to make stickers). This is amazing. (new owner of a 325 as of today).

    • @fabcraftsandmore
      @fabcraftsandmore  2 года назад

      I have not tired it on felt or fabric. I think if there is a good outline around what you want to cut and you can get your material to lay flat on the mat it should work. Give it a try.

    • @fabcraftsandmore

      I haven’t tried a colored background. There needs to be enough contrast around the image for the SnC to be able to make a clean cut line.
