My favorite memory of Chet Atkins was hearing him tell a story of taking a cruise to relax. He had an acoustic guitar with him and was out on a deck chair relaxing and playing a little bit for his own enjoyment. The lady next to him said "you're pretty good with that guitar. You're no Chet Atkins mind you, but you're not bad". He just smiled and went back to his cabin.

Check out, Roy Clark and Joe Pass. I played until my fingers had blisters. I popped then put Band-Aids on them and kept playing . Can play several iInstruments. I had to. Most drink, do to many drugs.

Realize there's other thing's in this world besides working. Its to late for me, I'm 66 and my body is worn out from the physical labor I pushed it through. This music makes me feel so good! I agree with you describing Jerry as the showman of the two, but there is that deep melancholic feel to what he does, both when clowning and playing. That's what I think that these two have in common apart from their incredible mastery of guitar playing within the same culture of southern rural and small town USA.

From players point of view, Chet somehow managed to stay current with all of the great guitarists as they came up, regardless of their respective genres. It's one of the things I respected most about him, he just loved the art regardless of who it was coming from. Jerry Reed was another great guitarist, but vastly under rated I think. I found an interview with Chet saying how horribly insecure Jerry was about his playing. He recounted a time when they were just warming up & Jerry whipped out some runs & progressions that floored Chet, when he asked Jerry to show him Jerry grew uncomfortable, started making a joke about it (his go to thing when uncomfortable) then finally said it was time for a break. LOVE seeing these two playing together, thanks sharing!!

You get to see and with the CD hear Paul; solo. Amazing player. RIP to all of them. We are the blessed ones for having them in our lives.

That is some entertainment folks. I dig that kind of music, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins and that Lady country singer
Nobody's business, great performance. Great traditional country and folk playing like it should be.
Like Joe Maphis, Merle Travis, Doc Watson also, who else i forgot...the fiddlers, banjo players what not.. everybody was at
or trying his or her best to outstand another without modern "autotune" fancy finetune and sound adjustments just to look good ya know
great guitar pickers of old times, rarely matched so in perfromance today.

If you look up the best of friends, you will find Chet and Jerry. Lots of respect and admiration between those two. Their playing together is like spun silk. I saw them live years and years ago and I witnessed one of the coolest things ever from Chet. Jerry was introing "Georgia On My Mind" and Chet followed for about two bars past the intro. Then he just folded his arms across his guitar and watched like a fanboy. Stood and applauded when Jerry finished. Kinda like he did in this clip, but with more enthusiasm. It was quite a deal, I thought. Also as in this upload when they finished "Sneakin' Around" and Chet smiled at Jerry then patted him on the shoulder. Wow! Chet also thought the world of Suzy. She deserved it. Thank you for the upload!

Totally- some people pigeon hole country (see Buddy Rich’s famous comments) but IMHO, as a previous commenter said, ALL music is an opportunity for exploration and growth… it’s also a matter of taste, but musicians of certain caliber, in any genre, may be capable of crossing genres or creating a fusion (examples from Yo Yo Ma, to Bryan Ferry, to Joni Mitchell, to Marty Friedman)… SO much to learn and enjoy!

But hey, wait a minute, during the video at 39:50 at the end of Atkins' solo he turns to the strat player and someone shouts "Hey Pat" to indicate it's his turn to solo. Was there another guitar player on the stand named Brent Mason? (plus below in the reply to Martin Lehfelt, it would seem to indicate Pat Burgeson, per "E L")

Hearing that rendition of "Something ".... I Love this whole thing absolutely front to back.. don't get me wrong.
But, that was beautiful. The recent Documentary and "Now and Then" Got me on a Beatles kick again.
"Midnight" is one that I would have LOVED to have heard them Do. With Chet and Suzy in the style of how they did Here...
Oh sweet Lord...... Jerry doing his magic and George Harrison's slide guitar behind his picking would be Insane... then throw John and Chet
Together for the rhythm and small solo work and Lead.
I also get a mental image in my head of George & John jamming with Chet and Jerry on Music Row in Nashville or Abbey Road.
I firmly believe that each of the Beatles could easily have correctly done sessions on Country styled tunes.
I would have loved to heard them on a session backed with Mark O' Conner and the various musicians out of Nashville in this
Period and the Greats that came before them.
It's been documented that they liked Country tunes and were big fans of Ernest Tubb.
" Beatles Go Country" would have been a trip.
