  • Some of the best compilations of Glen Campbell's incredible guitar solos have to be seen to be believed...As a young child in the mid 70's I like most everyone was captivated by the song Rhinestone Cowboy and many other songs sung by Glen. But what I (and I'm sure many others) never knew was (until one time in the early 80's I turned on the TV and saw Glen Campbell playing guitar and totally shredding on it) how amazing a guitarist he truly really is. At that moment I knew that heard is someone that has utterly mastered his craft. I hope what you see here will convince you as well.

Whatever the reason he lost part of that memory, he lived a FULL life and left us all, including his kids, with such amazing artistry in music. I do feel bad for all musicians, giving up their entire lives to entertain us and losing themselves along the way, and their families. Just look at Phil Collins, dominated music and yet lost his family to an extent.

Me being a black man who loves and plays guitar, I listen to country music every once in a while. I will say this, growing up in the 70’s I would watch Hee Haw and be amazed by this gentleman, Jerry Reed, and another guy who’s name escapes me, NOT. ROY CLARK! So many others on that show. I was teased by my friends for watching that show but I didn’t give a damn. I knew what I was watching GREATNESS. This wasn’t Earth Wind and Fire, naw man. Big Glen Campbell fan...and there are tens of millions of us out there. I took my two sons to see the Iowa premier of the documentary I'll Be Me at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines in I think 2015. They expected 300, and 1300 people showed up. His wife and kids were there. We sat in row 3 right near them, and they talked and answered questions about alzheimers and dementia- from which my mother suffered. He was just the best entertainer... maybe ever.
I have never seen this compilation. Thank you so much.

Same, my grandfather, who was my only real backer when it came to being a musician, was a huge gold Era country and western, as well as even older gospel music connoisseur. I grew up on this stuff on his absolutely insane stereo. And when I say insane, I mean 12 big ass floor speakers scattered throughout the house and 6 old school Sansui quadrophonic receivers...lol. that man had me listening to this music when I was a kid in the 80s and had a guitar in my hand before I hit puberty. He passed when I was 15, 3 days before it anyway and at 40 years of age, the music that I grew up on, even though I'm a metal musician is still the driving force behind all of it, so a special thanks to that grumpy old hillbilly fart.

For much of the general public, Glen's mastery of the guitar was overshadowed by his heartfelt singing. Ironically he would have enjoyed more fame as a guitarist if he wasn't such an accomplished vocalist.

My mom and dad were really big country fans in the 70’s and named me Travis after his middle name. I play guitar and only knew of him as mainly a singer/songwriter back then hearing him sing on the radio. I never knew until years later how great a guitar player he was. I finally got to see him late in his career in Branson, MO and he put on a great show even playing Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. He signed autographs after the show so I got to meet him and tell him about being named after, I still have that autographed picture today from him and good memories of that day.

I am always surprised when I see so many people say they never realized how good a player he was. I can’t play a lick but I guess I’m always listening for something that stands out as different and artistic, and Glen always displayed that. He could play just about anything and it not only sounds great but could knock your socks off. He’s long been one of my favorites.

As a kid, I grew up listening to his albums (mostly because of my parents). Until recently, I'd no idea of just what a maestro with a guitar the man is. Listening to him just tear it up and watching his fingers dance across those frets.. Blown away would be the understatement of the year.

Thanks for this posting. I'm in my mid 60's and have been playing guitar for over 50 years. I'm a jazz guitarist and Glen was one of my early influences and used to watch him and Roy Clark play every week on TV. What I later found out about Glen is that he is actually left handed and plays guitar right handed. I also play that way. What a monster player.
