No slouchers playing on that “Horizontal Hold” tune. Quite amazing both the playing and the sound the gentleman gets out of that mandolin…Mr. Atkins speaks for himself….
Thank you for posting this. I hadn’t seen it before and am really enjoying it. So many of them are gone now but thanks to video we can enjoy them forever.
Thanks for your comment, Edward. I'm glad to know that people are enjoying something they might not otherwise get to see had my recording not survived. Now, if we can just find Larry Carlton's set.
I used to have it as well but sadly it's long gone. I also had a special hosted by banjo picker, Mike Snyder, with Doyle Dykes and many others that I cannot find anywhere. I see excerpts, but never the show in its entirety.
Back in those days you could count on this level of talent showing up on this show at any given time. This was one of the good ones. Thanks for sharing. I have given up on the Austin City Limits show. There is nothing of value on it anymore unless they are doing reruns and you are lucky enough to catch an older show. Bluegrass Underground has tried to replicate it but it just doesn't get it.
Looks like Chet is playing the Gibson that was designed to replace the Tennessean or Country Gentleman by Gretsch. Gibson guitars were very classy and Easy to play.
@@pianopappy, Incorrect translation! Here's the right one: Yandex-translator: The concert is wonderful! Even Chet plays the Irish violin. I also liked the pianist with ragtime.
too bad Thom had to sell that guitar. i heard he only got 250 k for it. Imagine THE guitar the Master had for all those years. Thom made it ring . and now it is on a wealthy mans shelf.
Chet is playing Liberty in D as he begins the fiddle. Very nice to hear!,
Then they finished the segment with Boil them Cabbage Down.
Mhot was awesome! Thanks for sharing. Chet was one of my favorites and he always assembled an all star lineup.
thom Bresh, was a great performer, died much to young , playing together with tommy emmanuel is an absolute joy to see and hear, r.i.p. thom.

Enjoyed every moment of this performance
Glad you enjoyed it, Serge. Sorry, I missed recording Larry Carlton's set.
Makes my heart feel 20 years old again!
Love you guys!
Right on!! Amazing brilliant talent ! I really miss these guys. Chet Atkins. 🥹🤣I’ll see you in my dreams
I love anything that Chet and his friends play. Just solid guitar and fiddling music.

This Austin City Limits episode is from Season 12 in 1987, featuring Thom Bresh, Johnny Gimble, Butch Thompson, Larry Carlton, and Peter Ostroushko.🙂
The set with Gimble, Ostroushko, and Thompson is AWESOME!!! I used to have the whole show on VHS but lost it years ago.

Unsterbliche Musikanten
@@karlheinzpfeffer4432 I don't speak German. Does that mean "Immortal Musicians"?
Old gold pieces..
Legendary musicians each with God given talents few are blessed to possess.
At 27:34 -- LMAO!! Mainly because it had to have surprised the audience that casual Chet (Mr. Lack of Excitement) had a great sense of humor
Thank you
Thank YOU, Francis. Glad you enjoyed it.
I have this whole show taped when it aired on PBS. Love it. Chet Plays Kentucky and Larry Carlton also plays with Chet.
I would love to see the Carlton set, which somehow I failed to record.

My God I remember when this first aired! This was the episode that made me want to go physically see ACL.
I saw thom brush and his dad merle in concert they were really good.

Fantastic stuff, but sadly they are all gone now except Larry Carlton.
Концерт замечательный!
Даже Чет играет на ирландской скрипке.☻
Ещё пианист понравился с рэгтаймом.

Thom met his musical soul mate with Buster B Jones.
Those boys could flat out wear it out.
Chet and a Clarinet, only he could make it work!
Johnny Gamble always looked like the cat that ate the canary. Because he did exactly that.

He knows that song. 27:16
What is the first song Thom
Bresh plays?
32:55 Keep waiting for the Jews Harp to come into the action!
Thom sings and sounds much like Merle
Strangest looking Martin HeadstockI ever did see....the rest of it sounds OK though.
That's a Bigsby headstock on Merle's D28 that Thom is playing, I believe. Martin came out with a re-issue a few years ago I think.
