When I was a lad, I was lucky because even though I lived on the outskirts of Birmingham (UK), there was a small record shop that sold American import vinyls, so some of my first LPs were those by Chet, Johnny Cash et al. I still have them.
My dear father ,introduced me to the music of the great ,Chet Atkins. It's led to an appreciation,of Les Paul, Wes Montgomery. Et Al. I am no guitarist. But I learnt music ,very young. Although I've lost the skill. But I know quality and great music. NO MATTER THE GENRE
In 1975, I was invited to a luncheon in downtown Houston, TX. Mr. Chet Atkins was there to play for us. There were only about 75 - 80 people there. I sat about 10 feet in front of him as he played. Was anyone else there? How great he was!!!
Just returned to this. If you haven't watched the whole thing, flip forwards to the end and how he watches and then swaps looks from about 21.33+ with the bassist during the final medley, stopping to watch his playing at one point. And then his small but deliberate acknowledgement as soon as they finish the set. A genuine gent. Magical.
I saw him concert he did segovia, wes Montgomery and django pieces, as well as his own famous stuff. It was a demo of incredible variety and precision of pure music and flawless technique, he also played two songs similtaneously, he destroyed my ambition to be a great player, he could do any style or genre, lots of players have great left hand technique, his right hand was unbelievable,
Agreed - same here... reminds me of something my grandma used to say (and I know I'll get the spelling wrong): Takk skal do ha, og gift skal do bli, sa fa du ingen heles, sa fa du felie jente mi. ;-)
A friend had moved to USA in late 1950s (we had a kids skiffle group together in UK) and he sent me Chet's 'Fingerstyle' guitar LP. What a wonder! Loved him ever since. Thanks be to RUclips for keeping his memory and music alive.
Wildwood flower. Was my 1st. I live in Eastern Va. I played ina country band, in Ga at the time. I was playing bass with the band, but guitar was my maininstrument. Weplayed at the EM clubs in Ft Benning Ga for the boys soon to go too VietNam.
Wow. Chet kicking ass 1 year before I was born. Amazing. His first song ever learned where he was from was way different than me.... Paranoid by Black Sabbath.
Go watch Lenny Breau bro. Chet did that, but right after him Lenny perfected it and went almost unnoticed. A Jack of all trades of a player, different styles included, just as Chet.
Oh sweet..all guitar players steal chops and technique from other players.chet got a lot from Merle Travis and of course Les Paul..such deft touch I really enjoyed that thank you whoever you are.
Hi, I remembered someone wrote the full playlist in a comment. Video is updated with correct titles. The song you are questioning is called "yes Ma`am"
If you're watching this you have great taste. 2022 and he's still an amazing guitarist.
And always shall be
Wouldn't happen without his pal jerry
@@cadetwright6496 Huh? I'm a huge Jerry fan. Jerry contributed GREATLY but Chet was already a legend before Jerry ever entered the picture.
@@johnnyx9892 heard around the web that Reed had some inspiration in Chet's music besides playing in his brother's in law concert.
WAS a great guitarist. :-(

I was 23 at this time. Many great memories from this music. My favorite guitar player ever.
Great what year was this

In the early 60s Chet was so popular. Everyone I knew wanted to learn his style.
Chet is a man who inspired so many of today's greatest guitarists.
Masterful. Purposefully playing and singing discordant harmonies. So good.
So smooth it’s like melted butter with honey
Great video! As the host is saying in norwegian: "There are many guitarist, but only one Chet Atkins!"
The satisfaction in his face shows his confidence & mastery
I'm a great fan. I saw him live at his concert in 1994 in Bristol UK.
Chet Atkins, along with Eddie Arnold, and Ernie Ford, were Mom's favorites in 1964.
Always intrigued by Chet Atkin's guitar playing!
The sound quality is amazing.
I'm sure that Chet may have played a wrong note, but can't ever find it in one of his performances. What a legend.

The faces of the young people in the audience tell me more than a few took up the guitar after seeing Mr. Atkins in action.
I'm a Chet fan & haven't seen this before, it fantastic! Takk skal du ha.
Den er god. Var overrasket at det ligger slikt på nrk.no. Bare til å søke der.

I've been looking for this performance of the peanut vendor for years, I'm so glad I found it again ❤
Always loved his style of guitar picking nice & smooth!

EVERY note is PERFECT
At about 12mins at the end of Streets of Laredo Chet quotes some chords and a line from Django's Improvisation #1.... ❤
Truly a world class player.
The only Guitar player in the Smithsonian Museum. The only one who gives out the #CGP label
Great music love it 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Humblest absolute legend ever
Chet was awesome... one of the best period
I love how they clap on the 1 and the 3. Don't get me wrong, I love polka too
> arrives in some nordsmen hall
> inserts jack into the amp
> people roll with it
Tapping and whammy bar in 1964!!!
And sweep picking. Existed long before 64
@Joe Beef Hash Where his right hand
moves up the neck of the guitar and he taps the string instead of plucking it,
causing a harmonic.
Want to know the same!
Excellent!!!
I want that Gretsch that he is playing.
Just buy one. It'a Gretsch G6122-1959 Country Gentleman still available.
That is all just lovely.
Is'nt no wonder Chet earned the name "Mr. Guitar"!
Originator of guitar in rock n roll
Excellent
Eddie was first at finger tapping - it was Chet Atkins. I'll be darn! Cheers from the Mississippi Delta
Still my Hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP
Wow. Chet kicking ass 1 year before I was born. Amazing. His first song ever learned where he was from was way different than me.... Paranoid by Black Sabbath.
Thank you so much
The best...Roy Clark was fast, but Atkins had style
There was only one great Mr Chester Atkins the greatest
I very much doubt the world will ever produce another finger-picker like Ol' Chet.
It’s like there’s a bass player hiding in the background
Semplicemente immenso.
Excellent.
Different level!!
Didn't realize what a versatile guitarist he was.
He's doing harmonics 15-yrs before the fusion guys made it popular
Go watch Lenny Breau bro. Chet did that, but right after him Lenny perfected it and went almost unnoticed. A Jack of all trades of a player, different styles included, just as Chet.
Tommy Emmanuel took harmonics to another level
Classical guitar players did harmonics even before the American Independence…😂
Thank you:)
Чет Аткис удивительный человек!
Талантливо!
I can't understand why eveybody flipped out when Dylan went electric, can you?
Verdens beste guitarist.
Verdens bedste guitarist - 100% enig👍
Very powerful and beautiful 😂

9:55 - Drop D, 30 years before it was cool. Go Chet!
Levee Walkin' first piece
great guitar player that chet atkins
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍸🍸
The Big Boss.
I’ve always thought Chet Atkins was the best but it depends on
what kind of music you listen to.
In Rock music there are some great guitarists also.
Anyone know what the tune at 5:35 is?
I had to look up the information on NRK where I got this from. This tune is called "Yes Ma`am" and is written by Jerry Reed.
