From Italy: In the 60s I learned to play the guitar, both solo and rhythm, thanks to the Shadows. Im glad you guys made a bunch of cash using hard work dedication and skill enriching the lives of millions for decades.
It is NOT just "classical music". :) We were all taught in music school the development of musicianship, that is being able to play "musically" is developed first and foremost, through being able to play a single line melody with as much grace as a singer would sing it. Especially with slower tunes, ballades, etc. Classical and jazz guitarists learn this "the hard way". :) There is no disputing that what Hank plays is technically simple and easy to learn. But from the original recordings 60 years ago, to ALL of the films on YT in which he plays these pieces....he NEVER deviates from what he has done and always plays these songs the same way - -and with absolute precision. You are correct....people do not comprehend how good someone has to be to be THAT "consistent". Excellent observation. :)

I heard that even Princess Margareth of the royal kingdom was fan of the shadows in the sixties. No wonder, she hat good taste and so she was fond of them. Bravo Hank Marvin and musicians, even Ben Marvin. You and your music are great. What a treat for us.
Wow, so many memories of my younger years, I actually love and appreciate them more now as I realise what great musicians they are, only improving (if that's possible) with age and experience. I saw them live (with Cliff) at the London Palladium in the early 60s, my first time at a theatrical musical performance and was blown away. I would go anytime to see them live again, if they still perform.
I am 77 now, I heard shadows records first time when I was 17. I was so impressed, I started learning guitar. Their popular numbers were Apache, walk don’t run, Zambezi etc. Today, I am trying to teach Apache to my 11 yr old grandson. Hank, my favorite guitarist
Started listening to the Shadows in early 1960's.and 60 years later they're still as good as ever.No band has stood the test of time like they have.Magnificent! So many great memories of my youth,🙂
Shadows where a lendendry those good old days...group..though I didnt listen to them ...because we did not have the recordings of those days ..which you have now..tech has gone up greatly..but now with u tube..being an instrumental fanatic...i just got lucky to hear them..There is always a once in a century who play this type of music..many afterwards did..but you can't replace the originals..Guitarists of the present day need to learn from these amazing Group..no frills ..no theatrics..just good world class instrumentals..OLD is GOLD
I am 70 now. Loved them when I was 15. And I loved them still. Hank looks better now and is incredibly good now as before. Thank you H ank and Bruce and Brian . You make my day.
The Shadows' sound is impeccable. They are all superb musicians and Hank Marvin has defined their sound with his use of the tremolo constantly in his right hand as he plucks the guitar strings. So perfectly clear and artful. He is wonderfully supported by the precision of the others. This band is all about precision timing. Brilliant.
That was tremendous. The Shadows will always be known as the best of the best entertainers to this day. Thank you for sharing and for the wonderful memories.
I can’t imagine any rock band today with the talent to have a concert playing entirely instrumental music. This band is a real gift. Simply amazing!!! 👍👍👍
Pierrot
These guys were ground breakers. Leaders in the great variety of popular music That signified the late 50's and beyond. My love for The Shadows is deep and true. Masters of The Game.
My late father was a Shadows fan, and I grew up with them too, every cassette in the glovebox was the Shadows, he had a white and red strat, he always played the Shadows tunes. Its now mine, maybe I should try and learn to play. It’s been 4 years since he left us, had Wonderful land and the Deerhunter played at the funeral. Miss him every second of everyday but listening to this today has helped. Still tears but tears of joy. Love the Shadows.
Cassettes - ah, those were the days! Rewind them too much to keep listening to your favourite track and you ended up with a chewed up mass of useless magnetic tape! LOL My advice? Get that guitar tuned up and start tinkering with it, learn to play it if you can. But whatever you do, enjoy it and keep on remembering your late father. :-)
Same here my Dad had all of their 45s grew up with them now in the morning I ask Alexa to play their playlist sets me up for the day brilliant memories ❤️🇬🇧
These incredibly talented musicians are still at the top of their game and still seem to be enjoying playing together as much as they ever did. They don't come any better than The Shadows. There'll never be another band like them.

Well, I gave this a BIG THUMBS UP, because I'm a child of the 60's growing up with this stuff. This music is what started the big change in music from what it was and post war and into the 50's. A change that was only going to grow from here; And it did! We have 15 times more thumbs up than thumbs down. I THINK it's because the thumbs up people are like me and totally appreciate where this music came from. The Thumbs down people, I'm sure are music loving guys and gals but they're from a different era and they don't fully understand the evolution of music like the Shadows began and what grew from here. The thumbs up guys and gals are the lucky ones because we lived these times and loved every minute of it. My view, I've lived and loved every minute...Thanks to The Shadows.
bil haley started the change in music in the 1940's. His 1st record came out in 1943 and is considered the 1st rock'n'roll record ever made. It was a mix of the big band sound and country music that became known in the 50's as rock'n'roll. Rockabilly started in the mid 50's and is often mistaken for rock'n'roll as its simular but based on country and blues mixed together which is what Elvis actualy recorded. All of Elvis early stuff was rockabilly not rock'n'roll. The shads started out as the drifters in the mid 1950's and were a vocal group not instramental. They became the backing group to cliff richard. His 1st record has cliff and the drifters on the lable but as a US group was called the drifters they had to change their name to the shadows a name they came up with outside a pub when they were trying to think up a new name. They were sat in the shadow of a tree which is where they got the name from. They were already a big name before they became know as the shadows in the UK doing live concerts but not making records. They became more famous as the backing group for cliff richard and thats when they got a record contract for themselves. On some of their albums they have got recordings of them singing as well as playing. mary anne, and dont make my baby blue, being 2 of them.
The younger generation doesn’t understand what a musical instrument is , that’s what the problem is. They think it comes out of a computer. They also don’t realise how long it takes in time and practice to master these instruments. I think it’s called ignorance. Sorry to be so blunt but that’s it.
I've always loved listening to the Shadows instrumental music. And I'm totally impressed by the fans in attendance, and the respect, and staying silent while the songs were played in their entirety.
The group is fantastic as a whole, but Hank Marvin is truly a guitar genius....he takes guitar playing to another level and makes it look effortless. His smiles and the look of joy on his face make it obvious he loves what does. He is a treat to our ears.
I'm 30 and have just listened to 26 minutes of pure Guitar gold. Lots of people my age (and younger) are rediscovering this great music as a replacement for the commercial stuff produced now!
Lee Lacey Fully support that..100% Despite my previous neg. comnents. I never criticised the band nor their music, only the idiots making comparative, 'best in the world' comments.
Absolutely magnificent, they have got to be one of the greatest bands of all time. Loved them when I was a young boy and they still send shivers down my spine, bring back the 50's 60's music today's music is second rate.
I saw them at our local cinema in the sixties when Jet Harris was on base and they are still as fantastic today. What other group will last as long. Hank was born to play a Strat and boy how he can play. Thanks for this.
I saw them in Wigan with Jet Harris on bass and tony Mehan (Meehan?) on drums. They had just released "Wonderful Land". Frank Ifield was the supporting act, promoting his release of "I remember you" What a fantastic night that was!
How's it possible that this music still sounds so good after all this time? I'm pleased that the large audience tells me that I'm not alone in my love of The Shadows.
That modest self effacing bass man Mark Griffiths, holds it all together. He's a rock for them to layer their sound on. Classic Shadows an sound. Well done lads!

My instrumental journey started from the influence of “The Shadows”. I recently released this song with guitar legend Louie Shelton, I’d love you to have a listen ❤️

The BEST instrumental group in the the history of the UK - period !
Agreed, and America's Ventures come a rather poor second .
i would argue with you as i think the rapiers from around 1983+ are the best (look them up) BUT enjoy your music !
Make that the world
@STEEVB51: _"The BEST instrumental group in the the history of the UK - period !"_
Surely you meant 'exclamation mark', not 'period'.
….in the world !
I heard that even Princess Margareth of the royal kingdom was fan of the shadows in the sixties. No wonder, she hat good taste and so she was fond of them. Bravo Hank Marvin and musicians, even Ben Marvin. You and your music are great. What a treat for us.
The greatest instrumental group of all time!!!
The Shadows, priceless!
More than 60 years!!!
Brian Bennett, beyond excellent!
May God bless you!
Magnificent for all the concerts and a all the entertainment you have us over the don't let it stop
Ventures
Every good!!
I spent a few hours with Hank Marvin at a TV Studio in Germany. Great guy, big guitar star without any allures.
The Shadows have always maintained that distinctive sound and style of theirs from day 1. I love them no end. Long live the Shadows.
Yes, they are the best shadows - no grey one among them.
Their music is so clean and distinctive. They have their own sound. Shadows for ever
Hank Marvin,..OH MY GOD! What a sound! Flawless!!!
Micsoda zsenik ezek a fiúk dallamos, fülbemászó zenék, világbajnokok, imádom!!!!!❤❤❤❤

Bingo. I am 72. I know what you are talking about.
Eternal! Love those guys ❤ I'm 66, and hope to listen to them as long as I live or even more...
I am 70 now. Loved them when I was 15. And I loved them still. Hank looks better now and is incredibly good now as before. Thank you H ank and Bruce and Brian . You make my day.
Same here. First heard them when I was 11. Loved their music for 60 years. God bless 'em all.
Indimenticabili fantastici.
Brilliant.
Monikie Douglas Yes, they are brilliant! I totally agree with you.
Sorry for the late comment.
That was tremendous. The Shadows will always be known as the best of the best entertainers to this day. Thank you for sharing and for the wonderful memories.
What a great show, fabulous musicians and check out the size of the crowd!!! Thanks for posting this gem!!
Wby there isn't any elbow room in the venue...one guy could not sit still he decided to stand and wiggle! Tbeir music is highly contagious!!!
I can’t imagine any rock band today with the talent to have a concert playing entirely instrumental music. This band is a real gift. Simply amazing!!! 👍👍👍
There's lots of post rock instrumental bands that are very good.
❤❤❤❤❤
Well they do sing and harmonise too - and very well!
@Dartgame 340 jhbb
De l instrumental a la guitare qui me touche toujours autant...Présent à leur concert à l Olympia en 1962,avec les copains de mon groupe "The men of Mystery" .Nous avions fabriqué nos guitares électriques nous memes
avec l aide de mon père qui m'a conçu un ampli à lampes...Trop bonnes ces années soixante.;;
Pierrot
These guys were ground breakers.
Leaders in the great variety of popular music
That signified the late 50's and beyond.
My love for The Shadows is deep and true.
Masters of The Game.
A truly experienced English instrumental group! Great professional polished sound. It doesn't get any better. Awesome!
Anthony Joseph Lucchese
LOL
My advice? Get that guitar tuned up and start tinkering with it, learn to play it if you can. But whatever you do, enjoy it and keep on remembering your late father. :-)
The shadows and that sound are the best every group
Same here my Dad had all of their 45s grew up with them now in the morning I ask Alexa to play their playlist sets me up for the day brilliant memories ❤️🇬🇧
Learn to play the strat now ,before its to late and be with your dad ,all the best Steve.
@@stephenshaw6748 I will Steve.
Hank Marvin the Genius ! Great musicians ! LEGEND !
Gentlemen your playing is so absolutely 💯 awesome. Thank you Thank you.
These incredibly talented musicians are still at the top of their game and still seem to be enjoying playing together as much as they ever did. They don't come any better than The Shadows. There'll never be another band like them.
Eles são os the shadows
Well my Bestest ChildHood golden gate
Just a mention for the drummer, Brian Bennett. Rarely gets the praise his skills deserve. A true professional
THRILLS ME WHEN HE PLAYFULLY PUMMELS THOSE EXPENSIVE DRUMS!!!
Hank is magical. What a talent.I can't stop listening to the Shadows.I have all their music in my collection and frequently plays them
What I love about this is the complete simplicity of each individual's playing into a perfect blend of complexity..
Hi

Allan H . Me too, I had the time of my life.
bil haley started the change in music in the 1940's.
Even though I was born in the 80s, I appreciate The Shadows, they are better then some of these modern bands about
Foxtrotunclecharliekiloing brilliant
The younger generation doesn’t understand what a musical instrument is , that’s what the problem is. They think it comes out of a computer. They also don’t realise how long it takes in time and practice to master these instruments. I think it’s called ignorance. Sorry to be so blunt but that’s it.
This is music for the soul...
Very hard to ever be beaten in the future.
So blessed to be part of this Very special era
.
I've always loved listening to the Shadows instrumental music. And I'm totally impressed by the fans in attendance, and the respect, and staying silent while the songs were played in their entirety.
THE AUDIENCE IS ABSOLUTELY AWED AND ENTHRALLED!!!
Cuz they learned manner , our/new generation is not.
Brilliant good music never dies
Want sleep walk the shadows played at my funeral and queen I was born to love you and Elvis Presley one night with you xxx
The group is fantastic as a whole, but Hank Marvin is truly a guitar genius....he takes guitar playing to another level and makes it look effortless. His smiles and the look of joy on his face make it obvious he loves what does. He is a treat to our ears.
Fantastische Muziekkanten dierbare herrinneringen aan ! Onvergetelijk ❤🇳🇱🙏🎸🎸🎸🥁👋( April 2022)
Yes, a high level.
Twenty seven minutes of sheer delight.
I love modern music, from Cole Porter to the Beatles. I am spiritually blessed. Thank you Hank Marvin the Shadows. You will never be forgotten.
Marvin the Great and finest Lead Guitarist I have known since 60's
I'm 30 and have just listened to 26 minutes of pure Guitar gold. Lots of people my age (and younger) are rediscovering this great music as a replacement for the commercial stuff produced now!
Lee Lacey
Fully support that..100%
Despite my previous neg. comnents.
I never criticised the band nor their music, only the idiots making comparative, 'best in the world' comments.
Wow, The Shadows Fantastic concert LG Elisabeth.
and wish you a nice Sunday.🌞🎶🎶🎧
Absolutely magnificent, they have got to be one of the greatest bands of all time. Loved them when I was a young boy and they still send shivers down my spine, bring back the 50's 60's music today's music is second rate.
Ditto
I saw them at our local cinema in the sixties when Jet Harris was on base and they are still as fantastic today. What other group will last as long. Hank was born to play a Strat and boy how he can play. Thanks for this.
I saw them in Wigan with Jet Harris on bass and tony Mehan (Meehan?) on drums. They had just released "Wonderful Land". Frank Ifield was the supporting act, promoting his release of "I remember you" What a fantastic night that was!
so happy to hear this wonderful memorable music by The Shadows...👍🎹❤️
A bunch of old guys loving it don't ever stop fellas you are great, no fancy shit no pedals and the like great stuff live on
How's it possible that this music still sounds so good after all this time? I'm pleased that the large audience tells me that I'm not alone in my love of The Shadows.
Because good music ever dies. Other examples would be Mozart and Beethoven. Still good after 200 years just like this will be.
Bill Blinky. Most honest praise I have heard for years.
the shadows, simply the best, no other group comes close, after sixty years i will never tire of listening too them
Surely not.

That modest self effacing bass man Mark Griffiths, holds it all together. He's a rock for them to layer their sound on. Classic Shadows an sound. Well done lads!
Thank you sharing such beauty. Unforgettable artists. I saw them in Paris at Olympia but with John Rostill at guitar.

Wow! I have just watched this again and it has taken me back to when I was a sixteen year old boy entrant in the RAF and was entranced by Apache and FBI. I am now 72 and still love the music because it is timeless. Bought myself a Fender Stratocaster when I was 70!!
Bly me..sounds great..

Impossible to beat - a red Strat and Hank - and let's not forget the others. Each one a consummate musician.
