CAMELOT331 This is what happens when a company goes full greed mode, turns their stores into a tech trade shop (because they sell it in bulk to China to make the most profit), and threaten their staff with their own jobs when percentages aren’t met or exceeded daily. This video will be seen and heard across the world. This hammers another nail into the companies coffin. Another reason why I’m glad I left 3 weeks ago.
They’re watching their asses at this point. They know they’re wrong and they’re trying to suppress you because people at the grass roots of the company are truly enlightened and beginning to waiver their corporate support in favor of what you’ve exposed and the egregious actions. My friend just walked out of her store. She was an ASL and she walked out after calling HR with concern about the virus and they told her "you cant live your life in fear." It pissed her off enough to walk right out. I dont blame her. Gamestop is shit.
R Parker Having done the same, it really shows how corrupt this industry truly is and how willing they are to do just about whatever it takes to profit no matter how immoral. Therefore in order to emphasize, it is now getting the spotlight it rightfully deserves.
Bro, you could single handedly be responsible for saving so many people's lives by sharing this video and phone call. Forget about all the backlash, you are without a doubt doing the right thing. Really the best thing you can do, tell the truth. Thank you brother.
"You're their boss not me" Okay so everyone go home for two weeks. Corporate told me I'm your boss not them, so I'm closing the store until it's safe to open.
This is why I was stopped from climbing the ladder any higher in retail. They knew if I was in charge I would run it the way I wanted to, not the way corporate would want.
What's funny is that I take that statement literally and I "may" record this for quality assurance. Yet every company I've been on the phone with that found out I actually was recording said to stop recording or the call will end, then they hang up on me if I don't stop. Especially the bank when I was trying to get to the bottom of why someone was able to claim a lean on my account without verification and take all my money.
@@MrTwisted003 I don't have to tell anyone I'm recording. One Party Recording laws are awesome. As long as 1 party of the conversation knows the call is being recorded, then it's legal... and I know it's recording. :D

Devin there are only 11 two party consent states. As long as you’re part of the call you can in every other state. That being said, him being in the call unknown to the others might be a legal problem. UNLESS whomever he worked with recorded the call and gave it to him. I’m not a lawyer of course but that’s what I understand from the law and I’ve had to dig into it in the past. I also wanted to note that he has been dealing with lawyers and has been very careful so far. I’m not saying he is immune to mistakes but I’m sure Cody talked to his lawyers before he pulled something like this.
Honestly would have had more respect for Gamestop if they said, "We don't care about you. You are disposable and will work till you drop." Instead of the corporate speak that doesn't actually say anything.
they cant tell them that directly though thats why its in corperate speakl if they directly told them that with everything going on they would loose all their store employees and go bankrupt by closing bell on wall street then sued for every dime they have so they have to say hey we dont care without actually saying it but i feel ya id have more respect for them if they did it that way too
Store manager: So what is our plan if someone gets sick? HR: We have a plan for that. We quarantine everyone in the store for 2 weeks until everyone's dead, then we send a clean up crew, and finally we hire a new team to replace the dead one.
I recognize those voices and can confirm that, yes, that's Tim O'Reilly, Director of Stores (a token position), but not sure if anyone else has made the connection: that female executive "Janine" on the call can only be Janine Tadier, the Director of HR for EB Games Canada. Makes this whole thing even better now doesn't it?
Guessing they been plaguing the system for years? I'm not surprised of how most corporate act upon selfishness and greed over the workers and people's livelyhood
@@fireandmugs6712 Knowing some people in office positions of EB in Canada , the executives are so backwards and behind as well as corporate shills. So unwilling to evolve or adapt.
As a former Gamestop manager, I'm glad I got let go when I did. All the company cares about is numbers. They don't give a rat's ass about their employees and customers anymore. This right here is more proof of that. How they are handling this pandemic is beyond belief.
I got fired like 4 or 5 months ago. So thankful for it. I would had quit. The store i worked. No1 cleaned shit. I was the only person that wiped stuff down. They currently have zero supplies at the storw i was at
I literally had to pause the video when that one guy asked if there was gonna be a point where they put people's safety over profit, dude is saaaaaaavage
Also, the apathy in the voices of the executives still comes thru despite their best attempts to cover it up. I swear, I could HEAR that lady’s sideways posturing and finger waggle as she was saying corporate “already did that and doesn’t need to do any more.” You can tell she just wanted that call to be over with so she could get back to whatever was actually important to her..

After hearing this, I have every intention of going to the 4 locations within a short drive of me on Monday. New York state is shut down for everyone except essential personnel. If there's a game stop store open on Monday, I will call the health department and the sheriff.
It doesn't help that people keep coming out of their house during a pandemic. It literally gives owners a reason to keep these stores open unless forced by The Government. If you aren't going out for the grocery store, job essential, Emergency or daycare. Then please, please stay home. I can't stress how you can slow how fast a virus spreads. By staying home. It sucks but we don't have to watch as our health care system completely fall apart.

Yknow massive shout out to those store managers who are, at risk to their livelihoods, defending their staff. All of them with valid questions, well-spoken.
Amen on that, most of the people and managers at my local Gamestops are good people who care about the customers and their employees..the fact corporate has been screwing over the brand for awhile now is super depressing since honest to goodness it's pretty much the ONLY place within less than an hour I can drive to pick up a game and shoot the breeze with people who know about anime and actual have knowledge about games. My area is mostly full of older people...like no joke there are about..4 to 5 assisted living centers or straight up nursing homes each with in minutes of each other..and apparently they were working on ANOTHER one before all this hit. The amount of people I can talk to with similar hobbies in person that I don't already know? SUPER limited where I live so I enjoy talking to the employees at my local Gamestop for that reason.
Except there are tons of retailers still open. At least in colorado. BestBuy, Verizon, there are arcades here still open, malls refusing to close. They're no worse than they, and the Government can only do something if they mandate all retail stores close.
I wonder if anyone noticed that one of the execs contradicted himself. When that one store leader asked about GameStop being held liable if someone got sick at the store. He said that you can’t control it and said that he could go to the gas station and touch a pump that someone infected touched and catch it. Literally several minutes ago this same exec told the other girl asking about trades that there’s no proof that you can contract the virus off of a controller...
Would be hard to prove trough, they could have catches them any number of place, how you prove you catch it in a single store. There would always be reasonable doubt
Very definitive proof it can transmit by surfaces, especially non-pliable, non-absorbent, non-porous surfaces. That seems very similar to the surface of a controller...
The thing is, you get paid to be a doc. Would you volunteer if you dont get paid? Would you forgo overtime pay? GameStop isnt making any money, and if everyone in the store gets paid while not working, they would go bankrupt. Corporate employees arent the same because they are still working, just remotely. I am in finance, and I still work my regular hours, sometimes even more while at home. This is why I still get paid, while those in the retail stores dont.
"We could get sick and possibly die" "Daily discussion is daily discussion is daily discussion.. did you make your quota selling used games this week!?!!??"
Tell that to everyone who keep running into my store. Odd I know but they come in to get a bag of chips. Like go to the grocery store or by in bulk. I don't recommend it because its almost two bucks a bag. That way you don't have to come back out relatively soon. Getting things you need later on will help as well.
I quit after 6 years, that happened roughly 6 months ago. It was literally the best decision I've ever made. It sounds hokey, but it changed my life and made me realize how much I neglected myself as a person. I was terrified, I thought I wouldn't find another job, but I did. You will too. To anyone working there, please don't accept this, you're worth more than that. You have customer service experience, and that means a lot more than you think in this world of cold computers and automation. If you can afford to walk out now, do it. If you can't, use your free time to apply online through a job portal. There's so much out there, I was blind to it for many years, but there's absolutely no reason you should work for this company. You deserve better than this.
I had worked for GS for almost 8 years when I quit (which was 5 years ago now) and I felt the exact same way that you're describing. I was a store manager and I walked off the job -- something I'd never done before -- and it was the most liberating feeling. I had nothing lined up and it hurt financially for a while, but it was so worth it in every way. The reason people stay at jobs they hate for a long time (other than the money) is because their jobs make them feel like they'll never do any better. If you constantly have the threat of termination thrown at you for the most minor and insignificant things, you internalize the belief that you're a fuckup and not good enough for anything else. Now might not be the best time to leave from a financial standpoint, but it is certainly the best time from a self-worth standpoint, because the message GS is sending to its employees right now is that their lives and their health are worth less than preowned video game trade-ins. If that's not a wakeup call, I don't know what is.
I also quit about six months ago. Back when they fired all those middle managers and shuffled the districts around. I could see the writing on the wall then, but this... I don't even have words to describe it.
@Big Mike Exactly. We're talking about a company that used to practically print money and now it's reached such a poor condition that closing for even a week would probably send it into freefall. If a massive international company has so little cash on hand that it couldn't even close for seven days without collapsing, it deserves to collapse.
Okay so when I worked there, a man had a seizure and busted his head on our carpet. My boss told us to sop it up and keep working. No cleaning crew, no hazmat. I promise that they do not care to clean properly

Manager- “Are we allowed to make a judgement call and close to protect our people and put them above profit?” Corporate- “No, we’ll take this day by day.” Manager- “My people are scared... can you send an email to reassure them?” Corporate- “YOU reassure them. That’s YOUR job.” Manager- “I’m not allowed to make a judgement call to keep them safe... how am I able to reassure them?!”
This right here. This is so accurate. This is what got me. As a former employee of this company I wish nothing but the worst for them. As a current manager of another company this is a very honest question that I can see myself asking my superiors on a conference call. I hope I never get that response.
Alright, Gamestop is now on my blacklist - when things settle and we're allowed to go out and inject money into the economy again, this company will not be getting anything from me.
I'm actually shocked that no one on the call actually asked to see/hear what those protocols actually are, if nothing else just to hear their voice crack as they try to deflect that.
No one asked because they all have a copy of those protocols. It’s simply a blank piece of paper with the heading “Protow calls” written in grape scented magic marker or orange crayon...
You can definitely see the lack of care in this conference call on so many levels. It's genuinely disturbing! On another note, I can definitely see the passion that Cody has for the people that actually work in the stores. I have no doubt he was an awesome manager.
That one guy on the call deserves to be a C.E.O. He's the only one with a soul and balls. Props to him for risking his job to try and protect his co-workers, including ones he has probably never met. Guaranteed all of those uppers are working/doing the call from home.
Same reason for me being here. If if wasn't for that fact that the shop workers would be the ones to suffer (as they are now), I'd say that Gamestop deserves to close for this - permanently.
"We're not liable - it's out of our control." Not at all. If someone says they're sick and you force them to work anyway, and then someone else gets sick down the road due to a store visit, guess what? You're liable. The buck stops with you, and it's your fault.
If they're in a state like Indiana they'll have work arounds and loop hopes they can abuse to get away from liabilities. Ive seen people get illegally fired based legit medical conditions aka they "lacked motivation, enthusiasm and teamwork skills" or "They weren't pulling their own weight". A lot of places can be as vague as they want on why they fire people. So if they wanna fire you for something they arent allowed to fire you over, they can make up some bullshit that would legally fit.
If I were a store manager, I would lock down the store and mail the keys to the district manager and let them man the front lines. What a terrible company. I will never shop there.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 I think this is going to accelerate the demise of GameStop. They have already been struggling and this is going to hurt them more than some other businesses that have had healthier balance sheets the last few years. I wish they would say THAT. We don't know if we can afford to close our stores for a month and continue to exist. We WANT to have a better response but we just are worried that we CAN'T. That might help store managers and associates being able to stomach this situation a bit better. They might lose their jobs ANYWAY because the company will fold. But the double-speak angers everyone and makes them WANT to have the company fail for mistreating their employees.
@@spinningchurro congratulations on writing the stupidest thing I'll read today. Nice one, McCarthy. Guess what? Corporate insanity like this is the opposite of Marxism. But I'm sure you meant civil rights and feminism.
This is a business, all the executives know this. The business exists to make money, nothing more. They have to convince the employees that people are a concern, but it's profits or nothing. The general public isn't supposed to see this side of company interaction, ever. Remember this call the next time you all see a gamestop ad.
Geo Gio It is indeed an eternally flawed system we all know as capitalism as you stated and it seems that part of the problem is that aside from monopolies not allowed by law, what we’re also seeing is that the flaws aren’t getting dealt with by introducing regulations that executives need to abide by in order to do away with loopholes that they’ll exploit on a regular basis. That’s what also makes this system in particular quite as flawed as it is, the fact that it has it’s share of exploits. I think the real challenge would be tackling those loopholes.
He was one of the better people I met while working for Gamestop. I wont say his name, I believe it was mentioned on the call but he was a good guy and did always look out for his employees.

@Paul Moorehead this I quite a few corporate jobs. This is showing the true greed. Profit over even peoples lives. So long as the elites get their money and are safe from the peasant's disease. Their entire staff under them could die. They will just liquidate the company and make it out like bandits. Crap like this is why the soft headed morons think socialism is the answer.
I passed by GS headquarters yesterday morning and the parking lot was almost completely empty. So to answer your question, yes they are staying home, and pob only haveing cleaning staff come in...
OMFG. I work at a supermarket. i get why we're open, we have food and other necessities like infants and stuff. Gamestop has nothing of vital importance, they should close.
And that's criminal negligence, and the execs can't hide behind an LLC for it. They will be arrested and do time for it. They seem to think this is just some civil liability bullshit their LLC protects them from when it is in fact criminal negligence which they will be directly held accountable for via arrest, criminal court and jail time.
Sadly, it’s not that simple bud. You’d have to get every single person on board because people have to pay bills and some live paycheck to paycheck. Them losing their jobs and losing their paychecks is just not viable for them and corporate as fucked up as they are, can just as soon kick them to the curb and never look back.
Gamestop human resources already said employees can stay home if they dont feel safe at work and they will not be at fault and can continue work after the epidemic

Omega Zero Hopefully until they’re allowed to open up. I know that GameStop corporate is evil, but if they open up again they’re clearly forcing their employees to do it. It’s really a shame to see so many hard workers get treated like garbage over and over again.
This reminds me of a time I worked retail and we had a blizzard coming through. The District Manager had a conference call, telling us how we must stay open, and we can not close under any circumstances, it doesn't matter that you have no customers, I made it to work, there's plenty of customers in my store. And... just at that line his daughter enters the room asking about school. Oh.. the fallout on that call was hilarious.. and then he actually told everyone that they could close up and go home.
@@alcatonelover Well, I said retail, not gamestop. It was actually rite aid. But yeah, I know gamestop does that too. I've seen them open in blizzards, and I bet dollars to donuts a DM at home issued the threats to open.
A lot of people are doing the whole "Well, people need to work" routine. When you point out that Gamestop could afford to send everyone home with sick pay, or that the people giving the orders aren't the ones exposing themselves, or that Hot Topic is sending people home with pay despite having far less revenue, they usually don't respond.
The problem is gov't hasn't stepped up and given wage slaves like this alternate options. The folks working at GameStop would probably be more then happy to quit if the gov't allowed them to file for unemployment even though they quit. But, since they don't know how they'll live without their job, they just keep doing as their told hoping they dont' come in the next day and get fired. Gov't's are creating situations like this by not giving the workers an alternative to self-shutdown a company being negligent.
Can they afford sending everyone on sick leave seriously? GameStop being on the edge of bankruptcy for years now, their business are not doing well at all, they just got a new CEO trying to reverse that but he just arrived no time to stir the bar at all And looking how things are going for in Canada, it's mass layoff not sick leaves, everyone forced on the gouvernement mercy
Ryan Eft how do you know that GS could afford to pay everyone for long with lost revenue from reduced business and closed stores? And what does hot topic have to do with it? Sounds like HT has good cash reserves, but why should game stop? They have been hurting for years.
They can't afford anything they dug themselves so deep down the rabbit hole that they can't get out of it they are hundreds of millions in debt possibly coming into the billions zone they have no money they are making that hole deeper and deeper the longer they keep the doors open

Isn't it funny how corporate is always fleeing first while telling their employees to keep the ship running. I thought captains were suppose to bail the ship last and sink with it. There should be law that makes sure corporate CEO's can be arrested and locked up for 10 years at least for endangering their employees like that. This is inhumane and not trying to solve the problem we are all in right now.

RenegadePandaZ I found a job a week after quitting and make way more working less hours

But the double-speak angers everyone and makes them WANT to have the company fail for mistreating their employees.

Because America has been infiltrated by communists and marxists for 70 years.
Because authoritarian dictatorships are all the same.

This is a business, all the executives know this. The business exists to make money, nothing more.
They have to convince the employees that people are a concern, but it's profits or nothing. The general public isn't supposed to see this side of company interaction, ever. Remember this call the next time you all see a gamestop ad.
Karrus It is also a business that had it all coming.
People are a concern, ads aren't.
The eternal flaw of capitalism. Those at the top don't live in the same world the rest of us do. They live in a game of unlimited everything.
The field managers are asking all the right questions and the executives are giving all the wrong answers.
OMG that guy asking the hard questions is a hero. Get this guy a better job.
And the sad thing is people like this get labeled as troublemakers and lose their jobs.
How long until all those people that asked hard questions are let go for "Time Card Fraud" ? I'll give it a week tops.
He was one of the better people I met while working for Gamestop. I wont say his name, I believe it was mentioned on the call but he was a good guy and did always look out for his employees.

They're being forced to shut down in a good amount of places thankfully.
And Game Stop will be one of them!!!

Just drove by a GameStop in Southern California: County Health Department had signs all over stating it had been “closed”. Gotta assume it was involuntary 😂😂😂
EDIT: Signs have been removed from storefront! Pretty impressive considering everyone is either using personal time off or unemployment to do the bidding of GameStop. Will advise county health of removal Monday
Omega Zero Closed.
Omega Zero Hopefully until they’re allowed to open up. I know that GameStop corporate is evil, but if they open up again they’re clearly forcing their employees to do it. It’s really a shame to see so many hard workers get treated like garbage over and over again.
Non-essential services are closed in CA and other states now. A video game store is not an essential service.
Didn't GameStop got their business licenses removed?

This reminds me of a time I worked retail and we had a blizzard coming through. The District Manager had a conference call, telling us how we must stay open, and we can not close under any circumstances, it doesn't matter that you have no customers, I made it to work, there's plenty of customers in my store. And... just at that line his daughter enters the room asking about school. Oh.. the fallout on that call was hilarious.. and then he actually told everyone that they could close up and go home.
Yepp gamestop to a T. This is NOT new!!
@@alcatonelover Well, I said retail, not gamestop. It was actually rite aid. But yeah, I know gamestop does that too. I've seen them open in blizzards, and I bet dollars to donuts a DM at home issued the threats to open.
As a fellow former blizzard manager, I confirm this as true and sad.
GameStop being on the edge of bankruptcy for years now, their business are not doing well at all, they just got a new CEO trying to reverse that but he just arrived no time to stir the bar at all
And looking how things are going for in Canada, it's mass layoff not sick leaves, everyone forced on the gouvernement mercy
Companies don't last for years if they were bankrupt. They'll (GameStop) be fine, make em pay.

justin garner Actually, thinking about the future by itself seems to make sense until it is combined with the second phrase. Once they’re put together, rather than seeing how it’s an oxymoron to me especially the second phrase just sounds moronic.

I mean people keep coming into 'my' convience store in hordes. I use my loosely because I run the store aside from management work. I'm alone so we(my team) refer to it is 'my' store because a person in the team works by themselves. So even if gamestop closes its doors. I will have tons of people in the store. As a result other people will get sick because the touch the same products, countertop, door handle and etc. Hence why you need to stay home and if you choose to come out then its your fault at that point.
I'm not saying GameStop decision is a good one but I'm stating that even if they close their doors. The Virus will still spread because people simply don't care to actually stay home. Unless you are essential then you have no choice. I can understand if you have to go out. However, I countlessly see other non essential workers that come into the store. They bring their kids. Expect not to get infected but surprised they are catching it. Gamestop could help but it wouldn't amount to do anything. The actual individual needs to stay inside their home unless for Groceries, Emergency and or need to go because they work a Essential Job.
It is still a horrible decision from GameStop any way you look at it but its mainly up to the individual.
@@toniklocc what if it's a gas station company or a grocery store. We don't get that luxury because we need to provide you with actual needs not wants. Hence, Essential.
