  • How to Fix the Windows 11 File Sharing Not Working Problem [Tutorial]
One of the most powerful features available in modern computing is the use of local area networks that allow you to share movies or music files across all the devices in your home or office. You can use a network to set up a media server, to share printers and scanners or just to share files between two machines. Although in principle networking your computers is fairly simple, in practice it can be a pain to get it running properly. A common problem is the inability of one machine to see shared folders on another machine. In Windows 11 this problem has been fixed to a great extent, but it does still occur.
If you added a new Windows 11 computer to your corporate or home network, you may have already noticed that Windows 11 can't find all (or some) network computers, when you explore 'Network' (from 'File Explorer'), while Windows 7 and 8 PC's can see all of them. The problem exists even after enabling the Network Discovery on the Windows 11 PC.
    Issues addressed in this tutorial:
    computer not showing display
computer not showing up on network windows 11
    computer not showing hard drive
computer not showing in network windows 11
    computer not showing available networks
    computer not showing available wifi
    computer not showing any networks
computer not showing available networks windows 11
computer not showing all available wifi networks
    computer not showing file names
    computer not showing hotspot
home network computer not showing up
computer not showing my wifi network
    computer not showing my network
my computer not showing wireless networks
my computer not showing up on network windows 11
    my computer not showing wifi
my computer not showing usb drive
why is my computer not showing available networks
    computer not showing wifi networks
computer not showing on network windows 11
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 11 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, and Samsung.

I thought you had to select Public. You selected Private whilst your Network and Sharing center says you are Public? I'm a bit confused. I'm finding Windows 11 to Windows 11 transfer is very unstable. One minute it works, then later on, the Computers are not seeing each other. My sharing W11 to W11 was working fine last night, but not this morning. Sharing works fine between W11 to W10. I have now given up trying to transfer W11 to W11. Great video though. Thank you.

@@angeljuarbe5528 Did you try making a local account and using that to log into windows? In my case, loggin in to a local account worked for me. I eventually had to re-install Win11 so i installed a version called Tiny11 which strips down the MS ISO to a very basic and small install. After that I never registered my MS account as a login account, only using a local account. If you search Tiny11 you can find lots of info on it and my PC runs way better with Tiny11 as it does not have a lot of the bloat and telemetry running.

I only have the issue on the laptop when I attempt to use a USB hub (this is the 2nd hub I've tried) connected to a USB "C" port. If I establish a WiFi connection from the laptop to my network I can access the shared drives with full access. When I attempt using the Ethernet cable connected to the USB Hub in the laptop I cannot access any of the 5 shared drives. When I attempt to access any drive I get "M:\ is not accessible. Same here, but I found a successful workaround. In File Explorer, Network, my Dell27 PC can browse without issue to shared folders on my HP laptop. On my HP laptop, in File Explorer, Network, when I click my Dell27 PC, it says, "Windows cannot access \\Dell27. You do not have permissions to access \\Dell27. Contact your network administrator to request access." I followed all the steps in this very helpful video and many other suggestions from other sources still without success. Here's the workaround that allows me to browser my Dell27 from my HP laptop. I experimented with folder sharing on the Dell27: WIN+E, This PC, and browsed to the folder to be shared; right-click Properties; Sharing tab, Advanced Sharing; Share this folder, OK. [I’m not sure of the exact steps I took, but I think these are fairly accurate.] A prompt appeared saying, "Your folder is shared. You can e-mail someone links to these shared items, or copy and paste the links into another app." I clicked the e-mail hyperlink, Outlook opened and I sent the email to myself. The email arrived with an email Subject line of "I've shared files with you" and a message " I've shared some of my files or folders with you. To open them, just click the link(s) below--everything inside the parenthesis is an active hyperlink.
      Public (file://DELL27/Users/Public)
I opened the email on the HP laptop that was unable to browse to Dell27. When I click the link in the parentheses, Public (file://DELL27/Users/Public), File Explorer opens the Public folder and any files under that folder on the Dell27 without issue. In Windows Explore on my HP, I pinned the Dell27 Public folder to my Quick Access list (right-click Quick Access, Pin current folder to Quick access) and that's how I browse from my HP to my Dell27 Public folder instead of using WIN+E, Network. I tried to share my own User folder on my Dell27 to recreate that prompt to e-mail someone, but I couldn't recreate that prompt-sharing is complicated and I'm not sure of every step I took initially. So I tried I second workaround. I edited the link sent via email to myself previously. I copied and pasted this line from the email: (file://DELL27/Users/Public), into a new Word document. I right-clicked the link, Edit Hyperlink. In the Edit Hyperlink dialog, in the Look In field, I browsed to the desired folder on DELL27 (I wanted access to my own Users folder on my Dell), OK. I clicked the edited link in Word, my Users folder on Dell27 opened without issue, and I pinned that link to my Quick Access folder. This is a long workaround, but a successful one. I'm beyond frustrated after troubleshooting for a week trying to fix this. At least I have this workaround and I hope it helps someone else.

Warning: Enabling SMB 1.0 is a security risk, the protocol has a large vulnerability. That being said, it would probably be fine to enable on your home computer.
