- In life there are two ways to learn - from others or by personal experience. In this video we learn by experience that the Boss 429's legendary torque was no joke. Somehow, I talked my brother into a drag race to show off the true potential of the legendary musclecar and it was a surprising result!
Check out the result of the match race between my 1966 Fairlane 427 and his 1969 Boss.
The Boss 429 Mustang was considered by some to be the ultimate Mustang (myself included) and by others as a detuned underperformer in its street trim. This is a 27k mile original Boss 429, 4 speed, 391 gear, Ford Mustang Fastback. This was Ford’s attempt to win the NASCAR championship in the 60’s.

I had one and that’s exactly what happened! You have to make sure your pinion angle is correct, then replace leaf spring mounts, then weld reinforcement straps over the axle housing to the mounts. Also extend the height of the pinion snubber !
I ran in the high 11’s once I fixed mine !
Bob Glidden made the BOSS 429 a dominating drag racing engine by winning 5 championships in a row with it.
A lot of people get confused with these engines if it’s a true boss 429 NASCAR engine it will never show its true color until it is all the way to the floor. These engines were made to run wide open for 200 laps so they was never popular on the road because people wasn’t using them to their true potential which gave it a lot of performance problems
Just saw one in Bellingham, WA.... all stock, all original collector car. Sweet machines from the peak of Muscle.
Jesus Christ the ease with which you break traction going through the gears hurts my pride. My built 302 is in an emotional state thank you for that!
That’s an awesome comment! Thanks for checking out the channel!
@@dissrepair I'm here for it now!
The GREATEST Boss 429 Mustang ever built is Bill Goldberg's 1970 LAWMAN!!! The SOUND of 1,000hp. Omg.
That's why it's called the BOSS.
Man that sux! I finally got around to taking my fastback to the track this year
That’s a badass ride
My first car was a 65 mustang, I've had nine mustangs, seven of them were convertibles. The 69 is my favorite year
We are mustang fanatics too!!
@@dissrepair I took my 78 f250 highboy and it's only got 400 horsepower and did the same thing to the driveline at Ford fest at Bandimere.. it didn't get to ride there on a trailer, we took the driveline off locked in the hubs and drove it home in front wheel drive LOL
That thing is amazing
Mucho torque ese motor
I had a 351 69 gt, it gave me misery most of the time.
So glad I found your channel.
Me too!
🤣🤣
It's my understanding that most Boss 429 are not geared for the dragstrip they're Geared for NASCAR I believe you're going to have to make some serious changes not only to the drivetrain but to the unibody because I don't think they ever braced the unibody to take the torque that that motor can put out I can tell you what the outcome of that race was going to be with the boss being stock. The Fairlane definitely would have won but you change the gearing on that boss and tune engine for drag racing that'll be a very interesting race
Those are two beautiful cars! Too bad about the drivetrain. There's a lot of torque from that engine! I've seen some Boss 429's racing on a strip, hopefully you get it all worked out soon. Looking forward to seeing it run!
You got that right!
@dissrepair did you ever get it back to the track?
This is awesome, now that is how you drive that thing ! Only bad thing about Fords, you gotta make sure between your Transmission and Rear, You Gotta have Good Stuff, especially with Sticky Tires on a Sticky Surface. I broke a few like that myself, one actually broke in half and beat up my Floor pretty good, Glad yours wasn't that bad. You guys got some Awesome Cars !
Sounds like you have been making some serious horsepower! We were glad it didn’t blast through the floor too!
That's a bad ass machine, there's a video of one of these doing a 9 secs pass on 1/4 mile!
Btw the nastiest sound on a big block is from the boss 429 engine!
Thank you!!
If this car is stock, you might see a low 14 sec quarter. These cars had a ton of potential but from the factory they were choked and neutered. They had the potential to be the fastest muscle car ever built.
Just so you people know the Mustang body was complete with No motor or transmission and was Sent to Hollman and Moody to complete with the Boss 429 and the Thunder bolt Fairlane with the 427 As NHRA banded both due to tearing up the Tracks and Also Both Never could be beat Ever!!!!!!
It was sent to Kar Kraft, a company in Michigan for completion, not Holman-Moody.
Thunderbolts were sent to Dearborn Steel....
Low 11s? I love the car, but... I had a 97 cobra 4.6 L 4V (281 c.i.) putting 525 bhp to the ground i regularly slammed flat 11s @128 mph on street tires. I watched several similarly modded cobras break T56 trannies using slicks.
Well that's something you don't see everyday, most are just to look at anymore.
What is the KK # on the Boss9. I once owned KK2047 also Blackjade. It came out of Canyon Ford Dealership and still lives in that area. Your video looks like West Texas. Beautiful Boss9 👍
You might watch the other video in which we talk more in depth about the car. It shows the data tag
Hello Joe how are you doing 😊
Kar Kraft
Maybe a 11 sec car but that might be being nice. Prove me wrong boss 429 👦 man.
I hope you can get the BOSS fixed and back to the track on slicks! Sub'd to see this at the track on slicks!
We will and we need a rematch !
Hello how are you doing 😊
The Queen of the Mustang...! A BEAST....! 🥰😍💞🤩🤤🤤🤤🤤
429 vs 428? You should make a video brother
We are working on finding a venue to see which brother has the fastest ride!! Thanks for watching
429 more horsepower
428 more torque
427 side oilers best of both worlds
I love seeing the Boss made into a drag car.
Problem was your not the first owner. How many other owners put slicks on it. Ford Hemi will definitely weakin drive train parts and wear them out. Your other Problem was not inspection of drive train before bolting on slicks looking for worn parts. Retired Catapiller Mechanic
Driver sucks.... should've slipped the clutch.
What a shame, to ruin a true classic 🤷
