1970 Mustang BOSS 302 Trans Am Parts Development Car Muscle Car Of The Week Video Episode #173
This week, we spend some time with an amazing 1970 Ford Mustang BOSS 302 that was used as the development car for Ford's performance parts program. The idea was to help people build Trans Am spec racers of their own using some help from Ford and Kar Kraft engineers. The Brothers Collection is faster… and louder… thanks to this historic racer and it's cool history!

Owned a 1969 Boss 302 when almost new. Traded it in on a Toyta Celica during the gas crunch. Many years later bought a 1970 Boss 302 which I owned for many years., Great cars. Gone but not forgotten!
I saw the Trans-Am in America series a the Poconos, Watkins Glenn and Willow Springs. What a great time in car racing history. FORD, First On Race Day!!!
Beautiful car! Put Parnelli Jones behind the wheel, to really show how it was done.
A SISTER CAR went to AUSTRALIA, raced widely by Allan Moffat, car now in a collection by BOWDENS in Queensland! That car certainly has an AURA about it, even when its stopped and parked you can FEEL its pulse.
Watched those races on a 12 inch portable TV in bedroom. Moffat just needed more titanium valve springs and the yanks that were p.off he got 1 of 5 at the time took most parts in spite.
Holman moody is still in business and still building the old school 60’s stuff. Want a lemans era cam they will custom grind you one. With the original machine still in use 😊
Wow that boss looks and sounds incredible.
I’ve heard some sweet V8 sounds but this is up there with the best!
The sound on this video is HORRIBLE. The Boss 302 sounds much, MUCH better in person.
After 172 episodes of really cool cars, this was a nice surprise!
How cool is that car, and what a history it has. Thumbs up lads, great car.
Best looking car of all time. That is all.
i think you may be right .... !
I totally agree, I was so lucky when I turned eighteen my parents co-sign for me to buy my first new car a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang
Still like the 1969 a little better! But both are incredible Parnelli machines!!
Steve Ricks sure they did...
@@davidress8063 actually the first Boss 302 I saw was a 1969 outside a restaurant with a bunch of people looking at, said to myself got to get one of those.
I have always loved the Trans Am Mustang. To me, one of my favorite and most memorable Mustangs ever, along with the '65 Shelby.
The 65 Shelby GT350 and 69-70 Boss 302 are my favorite Mustangs ever made. I'd love to own a 68 1/2 Mustang 428 CJ or a BOSS 429 but the small block Stangs handled much better than the big block equipped Mustang's. I like the 71 BOSS 351 too mostly because of the engine...even though I don't really care for the 71-73 Mustang body style
In 1972, just after I graduated from high school, I bought a 1970 Boss 302. Medium metallic blue, front spoiler, rear spoiler, SportSlats and Magnum 500’s. Unfortunately it was abused before I got it but was still impressive. Ford also had a couple of Muscle Parts booklets that covered all their engines and had a Stage 1, 2 and 3 of improvements. Unfortunately Ford didn’t stick with it long and ended that program.
I grew up with a 70 mach 1 351 w 4 speed. Lot of fun. These cars ,Bud Moore Trans-am Mustangs, are my favorite race cars of all time. # 15,#16 so much match this car. Had both 69 and 70 teams. As a kid I had a Sizzlers race team of Boss 302's. My friends thought I was nuts cause I would trade things for their Mustang bodies and paint them up to match the actual race cars. Even had a Matchbox car hauler to put my team on like I'm going somewhere. Kinda dumb now but I was 10- 11 yrs old and had a race team. L O L.
Yes I love this kind of stuff !
The Boss 302 engines always sound unique . Straight line speed muscle cars are amazing but the transam cars are much more interesting - muscle cars that also go around corners and stop .
McGee Motorsports at Sears Point stables several Bud Moore Trans Am cars, including the #16 Peter Gregg car. Bud Moore put "skinny leaf springs" in them with a Watts linkage.
..."skinny leaf springs" were very narrow 1.25" wide with spherical bearings in the eyes, instead of plain bushings and pins. So, the leaf springs rotated under load along with the axle & didn't twist. These old guys were very clever.
No idea how this channel doesn't have a larger following. Great content and so much information. Incredible!
Thank you Kyle!
I still own my first car, a 1970 Mach I, currently going through it's second restoration, and I simply LOVE the Trans Am series Mustangs. Even to the point of considering a tribute (tho not gonna happen). Love this kind of 'stuff' haha.
This and the 65 Shelby GT350R are my favorite Mustang's ever made. I'd love to own a 68 1/2 Mustang 428 CJ but the small block Stang's handled alot better than the big block cars did
When my dad bought our 71 351 mach 1 the car beside our yellow mach was a T/A challenger 340 six pack. I want just to see the engine so they raised the hood. Man i miss the 70s' and my dad. God bless him.
sounds sick as hell.
Tough! I was 13 in 69 & TransAm got my juices flowing.
This is why I love Ford. Amazing
Beautiful. Any chance you can share the tire sizes?
Most beautiful muscle car ever...
Mic drop. 🙂
Although it's not even a muscle car. Mustang was a pony car, like all the other small bodies cars of the 60s. A "muscle car" was a midsize body with a big block. Chevelle, GTO, Torino, etc.
Great video...and what a cool Boss 302.
such a gorgeous car--always one of my favs
My first car. Bought at the swap meet with my dad for $250. I was 12 years old and spent 4 years restoring. Waaaay too powerful for me at 16, I wrapped it around a tree the first week I had my license. Always loved those cars.
I saw a Boss 302, with a shaker when I was 12 in 1970, while I never owned a Boss I did have a 1970, I lov d that car
How could you not like "this kind of stuff"?
Chevy fans?
@@ThePerpetualStudent Chrysler fans?
Perpetual Student i’m a Ford and amc fan, but I can appreciate a 1970 z/28.
Freddie Congo I’m an amc and ford fan, but I can appreciate a ‘71 challenger.
that's so cool, never knew they did that back then
Great channel!!!! A shame got don't have more views/subscriptions!!!
If I was rich, and I ain't, I'd have a hot rod mustang and a 1967 Fairlane with a 427 side-oiler, 4 speed, etc. Instead a drive a diesel pickup with 433,000 miles on it. :(
Me too. A 2001 Dodge Dually.
Among mine would be a resto-mod ‘65 Shelby GT-350 in Wimbledon white with the guardsman blue stripes, an ecoboost drivetrain and a 5-speed, and a plain Jane 427-powered burgundy ‘64 Galaxie with dogdish hubcaps.
I bet the truck is awesome though
I own A 2012 and consider myself very lucky its in my garage
As always, a great video. Always enjoy looking forward to more!!
So tough. This is my dream car from when I was a kid.
That is one wicked ride .
It's log book would be interesting. Raced that long it's bound to have been sailed off into some corner somewhere to HOT at least once. Like an old fighter plane. History worth saving.
My all time favorite car!!!!
Great video
Thanks!
Cool vid
I love this car. I would have no trouble driving this car on Sunday
That's what you call pure American muscle.
The mustang looks so much cooler without the ridiculous side scoops.
Sounds like you guys should pay a local road construction company to build you a private race track so you will have more space to show off all of fancy high horse power toys?
great sound!
That’s awesome🔥🔥🔥🔥
I want it!!
Not much of a mustang guy ordinarily but you gotta love the look with the wide rear AND front rubber. Love the sound of that 'angry' engine, just wished the audio quality of the recording was better. Any more of these in the collection?
I don't like this stuff, I love it!!!
I have a 69 I'm putting together and love to know more about the trans am heritage
Awesome
What a beauty! ( the car ; )
Who doesn't dig that?
Find a Mavric Boss 302 to review.
Just imagine your dealer endorsing you modifying your car for performance and selling you the complete how to guide & parts needed to get it done! I should have been born in 1938 instead of 1978. And I suppose in the USA instead of Oz as well! 😆
Süper 💯💯💯💯💯💯..
But I mean, does it REALLY compete? Now that is...😃
I have my own 1970 mustang!
Luke Teverino I have a bb 70 chevelle but I liked my 4v cleveland and top loader 4 speed 67 ford short bed far better.
The truck weighed 3050 lbs and with the 390 rear gear my truck was even up in the quarter with my chevelle. Id love a 302 or 351 boss
Me too
nice
This or the 1965 GT350R please :)
what size are the wheels and tires?
Would love a set in the magnesium color for my 94
Nicеее
Put some functional lights, etc., leave the exhaust as-is.
Legal or not, I'd street drive it on a Saturday night. Look out, Mister.
What a beast! I still don't understand why it took Ford so long to put an IRS in the back.
I had a 66 fastback. owned it for more than 40 years. it finally wrecked and I have to sell it. so sad.
You still have great memories associated with that Mustang. Remember those.
Walter Sykes my condolences
Take that environment.
That pooor clutch..... gorgeous car!
That's an illusion.. we shot the burnout at 120 frames per second, and it stopped the motion of the wheel, so it looks like the clutch slipped! The slower cameras show lots of tire spin.
@@V8TV just seemed like alot of smoke coming out of the middle of the car. No worries...id give my right eye for that bad boy!!
What is a floating 9". The axle shafts are not flanged?
Wow 🤩 we got a 3 litre ford Capri 😆
I wonder how hard it would be to those car craft instruction manuals today on how to turn your boss 302 road car into a race only car?
what type of an exhaust is that?? anybody???
Are those two manuals from car crafts still available
This Mussy is like a tall suntanned blonde fully shaven and misbehavin... One of the most horniest Stangs I have ever seen. What a fantastic shade of orange, how well does it look with the black decals!
Sad where are the mini light for the back
who the hell hit the thumbs down button? some cam hair oh owner ?
Man,V8's sound cool, but open exhausts, they just blow you away.
I wonder what size tires n wheels?
That burnout was mostly clutch. Better get it on the house, clutch time.
The clutch is not slipping, it's just that shot was done in 120 frames per second and it froze the action of the tire with no blur, so it appears that way.
That place is getting repaved with rubber.
I didn't know you could get 500hp from a 302. I have two of them. Hmmm
At 4:33 did you just fry the clutch disk??
We've been asked that before, and no. That burnout was shot at 120 frames per second, so it stopped the motion of the tire spinning and it looks like the clutch fried. Crazy illusion!
@@V8TV Good! Awesome historical piece of machinery!
Do more trans am carsy
4:33 new clutch please
That's an illusion.. we shot the burnout at 120 frames per second, and it stopped the motion of the wheel, so it looks like the clutch slipped! The slower cameras show lots of tire spin.
@@V8TV Okay cool looked like smoke from the clutch area, Awesome car thanks for the up load
Does anyone know what that color is called it doesn't look like a stock Ford color but who knows , I would like to find out !
Take that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for your Green deal dear..
Love it !
Cool story! The car seemed to make a lot of noise but didn't seem to go anywhere though.
This car makes power at high RPMs... we didn't have the space to let it really rip!
The noise is astonishing regardless.
+Michael Marks Dude, they're in a friggin' parking lot...
Did we all realize that Michael marks drives a piece of shit in new Dodge Challenger that doesn't go anywhere even the Hellcat isn't as fast as it should be with 710 horsepower Michael marks what is your Challenger run 14 seconds cuz I'm sure it does cuz my buddies does gaaayyyy
John Fasanelli the new 5.7 is pretty damn slow.
RUclips save commercials for the END !! of video!!..phunkn..!! Irritating!!
I asked For to sell me parts to repair one of their -longest lasting trucks on the road- a 1987 F150, two wheel drive with 4 speed and a straight 6. I was steered to the retail sales department for new trucks. With advice like that I would sooner buy some snotty import, I said. I was told I was right, but that We don't make parts further back than for 1999 models. Has Ford gone completely lame ? I'm keeping mine anyway, I made the part myself, but this still pisses me off. Maybe they will listen to you, it seems I can drop dead, in their sight.
The stripes are put on completely wrong
HOLY CRAP that thing is LOUD! What a suicide machine yikes!
It is a pony car not a muscle car
WHY would you not let us hear it idle? Total fail
Mustang was not a muscle car. It was a pony car. Midsize cars were muscle cars.
