Full Build: Taking A 1970 Mustang From Pony To Stallion

- This 1970 Mustang will take a 50 year leap into the future! EBC Brakes is teaming up with Detroit Muscle to turn this pony car into a stallion. The team dives into the EBC Mustang but things may have to get worse before they can get better. The first step is to build a solid foundation for this Resto Mod. The Mustang has to hook and stick to the ground, so it’s time for some new suspension magic! Then, the crew creates a custom exhaust with some TIG Tech, and they lay out a new living room. They go all in to reveal their supercharged ground-pounding pony at SEMA 2021 in Vegas. Check it out from start to finish.

I just watched for two hours and never heard it run or saw it drive.
I get so jealous of the people that get to own a car like this. It has all the power steering, brakes and suspension advantages of a modern car wrapped up in an great old school muscle car. Not to mention a Whipple charged Coyote motor. I noticed they didn't mention the HP and TRQ numbers of that motor which are 1003hp and 799 torque. Probably because it out classes that transmission, which was rated for 600 hp. A great build and a fun bunch of episodes chained together to watch.

This is exactly the type of build I like to see. A Plane-Jane Mustang transformed into something extra special. Makes a nice change to see something different under the hood instead of a stroked Windsor or a crate 350 Chevy.
thats not a plane-jane car, its a rare special mustang and they fit it to a more sexy car as it already was

We ALL had one we wished we could have kept. Mine was a 70 Challenger drop top. It was the car, or the kid. I could only have one.
If I had to do it over again, I definitely would choose my '64 VW Notchback that I had to sell, cuz my kid is...well, she's a liberal democrat POS now whom I've disowned...salt on the wound is I can't even try to buy my car back, the guy who bought it, yeah his dumba*^ kid totaled it a few years back.....

Harbor freight offers a pneumatic ram upgrade for an engine hoist. Great value, easy install and makes lifting an engine a breeze!
If you are really really heartset on spending money for worthless junk than Harbor Freight is your place every single thing in that store is made in China
Lifting an engine is almost effortless, anyway...

@@ed_1969 - Need to lift an engine out slowly and carefully anyway... especially if working alone... so don't needlessly break any expensive parts in the process... scratch paint off the vehicle and cause rust...

My older cousins worked at Ford in Detroit and were Mustang guys. So naturally I really wanted a ‘70 Mustang as a teenager! But couldn’t find one that wasn’t rusted out in Michigan. Maybe one day I’ll find one. Love the Boss 302 paint! Such a classic looking resto mod Mustang.

Winning such a car is one thing being able to afford the insurance premiums is another. Most people can't.
Coyote is a no brainer ! Double Over Head Cam 4 valve per cylinder vs pushrod 2 valve per cylinder! 450hp stock out of the box!

EBC also makes some great brake pads and rotors for road and off road bicycles. They don't make actual calipers or levers but if you use some great base bones like Shimano XT, XTR, Ultegra or Dura Ace calipers you can even upgrade them with EBC Ceramic pistons and replace the steel hardware with alloy that combined with the heat dissipating pistons will stop you faster and help drop the bikes over all weight.

Im a huge fan of mustangs. I've got a 2012 Boss 302 Leguna Seca Edition. And I'll tell ya she boogies
Love it! I had a a 2018 GT and also had a 2012 GT. The 2012, with its 6sp and more raw feel (and glass roof), got the most driving time. It had Borlas, h-pipe, a tune, was lowered with all around with a nice suspension, and...had the Laguna Seca wheels. I still want a 2012 Boss. Great cars!

Enjoying the whole build. In all your projects you never tell us what it costs. Most of you builds are beyond what the ordinary back yard can afford. How about some stuff that doesn’t need a tv budget. Sure wanted to see a few burn out at the end.

These should only come in forest green with ARE rims. Unoriginal I know but that Bullit stang (ealier than this one) is what got me into American cars. A love I still have 35 years later.
Remember that I was fixing automobiles when these cars where still almost new.
My very first car was a 1970 .302 Boss Mustang.
Wing and louvers for the rear is a must.
That 302 still runs good and I'm a Gm fan
My 00’ Mustang GT was a tank!! I drove it like I stole it from day one!! Only issue in 276k miles… grenaded the transmission at 40,000 miles. I daily a 13’ Fusion 2.5 and just replaced the transmission at 198k!! That car has been Uber reliable with exception of the transmission…again! I track and cruise a 20’ GT/CS 5.0 and sooooo far no Transmission issues at 42k, no other issues after mods-N/A. Only time will tell how stout the 3rd Gen. 5.0 is after basic maintenance. .My husband has a 2019 F150 Lariat 3.5 with the “max tow” package…..that truck is gonna get rebadged as the Gremlin Edition … leaking windshield, destroyed cpu, mold inside the truck from defective drain tubes, sync is a dumpster fire, engine randomly turns off while in drive, key fob stopped working all together after new batteries installed, and the 10 speed has been reprogrammed by Ford twice..🤦🏼♀️

I like the full build videos, but feel like we got short changed in this particular project build because there was no post build engine dyno-testing, test driving, or even just starting the car up so we could hear it run! PLEASE DO NOT SKIP OUT ON FILMING MORE OF THE ENGINE BUILDS/TESTING ON THESE PROJECTS.....because let's face it, a car isn't a car without an engine, no matter how cool its new suspension, transmission, exhaust, tires, brakes and interior/exterior upgrades are!
Isn't the replacement Coyote engine the same one that was put together & dynoed in an earlier Powernation project? If it is, they managed to get a thousand HP out of it. I know they were talking about a detune of the engine prior to giving the car away, but I bet the engine would still be cranking out 600 - 650hp. You're talking about a possible low 11s - high 10s 1/4 mile at the least, and the car would be a blast to drive on a road course.

The Mustang II Cobra is what captured me for Mustangs. When I was 17 I saw a stunning picture in a Mustang book of a white Mustang II Cobra w/blue stripes. Found a '74 Mustang II for sale in the local paper, went to buy it & when I saw it IRL, I could not believe how incredibly fugly it was. The picture seriously lied to me!! So, I moved on to the '69 Mach-1 until I learned how obscenely expensive they are (& how hideous their dash is, BLEH!!), then I moved to the '67 & '68. Obviously, the '67 has more style with the awesome side scoops, so that was my baby. Bought a '67 with a 351 Cleveland & C6 shoehorned in. It literally changed the trajectory of my life- that car decided who my friends were, who I met, who I dated, who I married, & eventually, who I divorced. I never would have guessed looking at a book of old cars in the library would have such a monumental effect on the entire course of my life, but it absolutely did.
You guys should have moved the hockey stick stripe on the door to fender ahead a bit to (center) brake decal! Nice job though

All that and I could hardly hear what the engine sounded like and we didn't even get to see like, a test drive! I wanted to see how the Trans worked with the 5 speed on the highway and how good it handled with the new suspension plus if I was EBC, the brake company that sponsored the build I would be pissed that you didn't even demonstrate there new products and show how good the stopping power was. The car looked great but I can safely assume that the new parts put on must have really sucked if you did all that work and didn't have the confidence to show how good it all worked!!! I felt cheated!!! I watched this whole video and didn't get to see the car go !

It's hard to believe that there is no rust inside the cabin area. Even my 70 Cougar Eliminator with my son completely detailed it from bumper to bumper had a little bit of rust different places inside the shell I did put that ceiling insulation down after priming it and painting it seems like his were next to the river plugs the Ford put in from the factory there was no primer and paint underneath the rubber plugs
