    If a man of his age can get down in a manual, there is absolutely no excuse for you younger people. Hop in a car with 3 pedals, not 2 pedals and not 2 PADDLES. It makes you such a better driver, you learn more respect for the vehicle, your surroundings and yourself because you connect with the vehicle.

    I was a 60s Chevy muscle car guy. And I loved watching this and hearing Jack talk.
    Back n '69, I saw 1 of these Boss 429's and a 396/375 Nova race 3 different ways 1 night.....Boss won each by a little over 1 car length. Both were 4 speeds. I was disappointed the Chevy didn't win, but the Boss was a sight to behold..... I still remember it like it was just last week.

    Funny story...back in 69 or 70 my father had a car identical to this. One day while driving it he saw a truck broke down on I believe 322 in southington ct. My father pulled over to see if he could help. It ended up being Jack Roush and Jack absolutely loved the car. He often wonders if that encounter influenced his decision to purchase this car.

    The Ford de-tuning of my Boss 429 was revised in 1971 by Speed Specialties of St. Petersburg, FLA. I think the rear was 391 traction lock from Ford. With G60-15 tires, I ran "A" stock at Sunshine Dragway on the weekend and NEVER lost a race. It was awesume as no other street cars approached the high 11's at that time. Exhaust pipes were cut out each side of the car with caps for normal driving. Miss the old days !

I spotted the red Boss 429 sitting on the showroom floor and that’s where I spent the next two hours. Being subscriber to (S/S & Drag Illustrated) I knew what the car was. I made all kinds of promises and almost begged my Dad to buy it for me. I knew it was hopeless when he opened the hood and saw that Hemi. It nearly took his breath away. Jack Roush is amazing an icon amoung legends. one of the most incredible engine builders in all of auto racing. he always used the technique of reading spark plugs to know exactly how the engine is performing. in fact he was a master at being able to read plugs better than anyone. he probably no doubt has cornered the market with all the Roush built vehicles that are out there. and the endless supply of Roush performance parts that were and still are available. and he's not only an awesome automotive enthusiast. (I'm guessing he still has it) but he owns a P51 Mustang aircraft. yep that Boss 429 Mustang is one hell of a nice car. I would really love to get the opportunity to get to meet him that would AWESOME by itself. but if he asked me if I would like to drive his car I would be floored no doubt.

    • @bobkonradi1027
      @bobkonradi1027 9 месяцев назад

      At one time Jack Roush was a dyno operator in the hi-performance development department at Ford. I believe his drag racing partner from back in the 1960s-80s, Wayne Gapp, was also working in the hi-performance department. They got together and ran the Gapp and Roush Pintos, Mustangs and Mavericks in Pro Stock. His most memorable Pro Stock car was a Maverick 4dr sedan, the "Tijuana Taxi." The NHRA had a weight break for cars over a certain wheelbase, the 2drs didn't have enough wheelbase, but the Maverick 4drs did, and so they ran it, and won a lot of races. So he learned a lot of tricks about seeing what worked, and what to look for, when developing hi-po cars.

My parents knew I was crazy about the 57' Chevy so for Christmas around 64' or 65' we got a Motorific Detroit Torture Track slot car set and got me a separate extra car which was a 57 chevy. I had a chance to drive a red 1969 Boss in 1970. There was a co-worker at Bell Areospace in Niagara Falls, N.Y. who owned one . He was a newbie and bought the car just to show it off not suspecting what he really had. He'd pop the hood just to show off the huge motor. He let me drive it during lunch hour one day. Wouldn't you know it a 1969 SS396 Chevelle pulled up along side of us right at the light in front of Bell. I asked Steve if it was ok to try it out. He looked over with a big smile and said ok. I said check your seat belt and hand on. The guy in the Chevelle was looking at us with a slight grin on his face and revving up his engine.I don't know what he thought he was in for or if he not noticed the Boss 429 emblem on the fender of the stang.The light turned green and all you could hear was screaming tires as I dumped the clutch and nailed it. It was even steven in first as we were both burning rubber. I hit second gear and it was all over, by 3rd gear the Chevy was 2 1/2 car lengths behind. I hit 4th and let off the gas as we were doing about 80 mph on Niagara Falls blvd. which is a busy road in the "Falls". Steve looked at me and asked with a big smile on his face "Is that's how it's done?" Yeh, I answered as we both laughed all the way back the the Bell parking lot. I don't know where the Chevelle went as I was busy looking to turn around and cops at the same time. This is an absolutely true story.
    He hinted at wanting to sell the Boss at a later date but, backed down when I really showed interest. We both got laid off and I never saw Steve or what happened to the Boss.I thought about the Boss and it's fate to this day.
    Gary Flagg Buffalo, N.Y.

    How fitting is it that Jack owns car numner 429 out of the 500ish boss 429 mustangs? I beleive in a thing called destiny.

    • @GTR-ex2ly
      @GTR-ex2ly 2 года назад +2

      Yes it is fitting. 857 were built in 1969.

      @@GTR-ex2ly I'm not nearly as well versed in classic mustangs as Foxbody era onward thanks for the heads up. I could understand his confusion seeing 429 in the number would make you think it is referring to it being a boss 429

    • @GTR-ex2ly
      @GTR-ex2ly 2 года назад +1

      @@midnight347 No problem. There is so much misinformation about these cars on the internet. There were 857 1969 Boss 429 Mustangs built in 1969 plus 2 Boss 429 equiped Cougars. The KK numbers started at KK-1201. So this car cannot be the 429th one built.
