I went backpacking with an ex on North Manitou in Lake Michigan for the sole purpose of getting a Milky Way shot. It rained the entire weekend until that last night. I woke up and peeked out of the tent too see nothing but stars. I had enough battery life to get 3 pictures of the Milky Way over the top of the old barn that's on the island. Your pictures are way better than mine but the trip was similar.
What awesome images! Those are incredible. I'm really looking forward to your book coming out. Watching this video is bringing back memories. In 2001 a group of us backpacked that area for 5 days. We were dropped off at the same spot, crossed the same bridge. I can't remember which trails we took, but our path took us to a spot where we were able to park some vehicles to reprovision, which was really nice. I love that train ride. Some of the prettiest country on Earth. I was able to ride it in April one year when there was still a lot of snow. I rode in the caboose, which had been converted to a pretty posh bar car. Otherwise, in warm weather, you want the open gondola. The train only went part way, to a place where there's a Y for the train to turn around, but really pretty getting to see that area with all the snow. If you've never done the train ride out of Chama, NM, you'll want to check that out sometime, but do it in the fall when the aspens are on fire. There aren't nearly as many towering rugged peaks as the Durango train ride, so finding composition for astro might be more challenging, but still worth the trip to take it in. If you ever do make that trip, take a different highway into and coming out of Chama, so you can see the different vistas.
A long time ago, my wife and I took that train ride. It was fantastic! Does it automatically stop at that trailhead? You certainly earned your keep to get those images. Well done!
Maybe I shouldn't ask this considering other poster's tent comment. What jackets are you wearing? Look warm. Wisconsin winters offer beautiful scenery , but also bitter cold. I used to have your stamina and resolve. I backpacked in the Rockies many times in the 80's.
Great shots and wonderful story telling!
Thank you so much for watching
What a trip!!What will You do without Laura!!!
Not survive
That's not a tent... that's a tarp! Looks cold! Does look fun though....
The actual tent was sold enough... and we were surprisingly warm once dry.... but yeah, there were some cold moments

You can buy a ticket to go half wayb like we did. So yes, it'll stop to drop off or pick up as necessary
That was some great storytelling there, really enjoyed the adventure! And great results in the end!
Glad I could do the adventure justice
