Dixie!! It was so much fun meeting you and getting to spend time with you on this hike! Everyone in our crew thinks you were a wealth of knowledge and inspiration and just wonderful to be around. Your video is gorgeous and really captured the splendor of the Tetons. I know you roll solo, but I hope we get a chance to explore more parts of the backcountry together. Thanks for putting me/ us in the video. You have converted us to lifetime Homemade Wanderlust viewers! Take Courage and we hope to see you out there!
Ben! Thank y’all for letting me crash your party ♥️ It started things off right for me on the trip. Y’all keep in touch and if you’re ever coming through Bama lemme know!
What I love most about Dixie is she actually hikes and takes footage of it. So many of these backpacking RUclipsrs just show off new gear and I truly appreciate someone who just shows what it’s really all about! Probably much harder than sitting down doing a gear video but let’s us all go along for the journey.
26 minutes of pure joy! We are lost in the vast beauty of this beautiful country and *blink* conversation with a ground squirrel (or one of its relatives)! I so enjoy seeing your adventures through your lens and hearing the story you tell. Thank you!
Your combination of naturalist, back country skills, storyteller, cinematographer, and documentarian are truly remarkable. Of course, there is also your charming, matter of fact and down to earth personality which makes us all feel welcome. It is like stopping by for a sweet tea on the back porch rocker.
I love how after all these years and miles, the only piece of gear you haven't changed is the makeshift aluminum pot that you were told at the beginning that you shouldn't be using.
After watching this and feeling tears well up, I sincerely felt: "You did a very good thing inviting Jessica on to Blue Dot." The thunderstorm segment gave me pause remembering your CDT adventures! I am so glad you made it safely through an electrified high country. I hiked through that region and fell in love with it in 1980. I recall seeing ash from Mt. St. Helens on glaciers in the Tetons and Wind River Range. I had the tremendous experience of learning nature photography techniques from Bill Ratcliffe at the (then) Audubon Society's Trail Lake Ranch near Dubois. Thank you for being you. You are a gift to all who aspire to adventure. Big virtual hug!
Jackson Home is really beautiful any time of year! But This ois definitely the most beautiful hike Dixie has filmed. Some of her shots look like paintings of the West, from the 1800’s because of the smoky air!
I've been loving the content here. I've been a bushcrafter, camper, trapper, fisher and survivalist for decades. Never done a thru hike. Well, I'm going to start small and hike the Vermont long trail next summer. Always a good time to try something new. Thanks for the inspiration.
Oh Dixie! What a magnificent hike! This one is the most beautiful! I can’t imagine being without a tent in that rain, but you manage every situation the trail throws at you with such equanimity and good spirits! You are such a good example to all of us!
Loved it this video Dixie. But I gotta say, even though I am not real familiar with your bus raft knowledge, I was kinda surprised you didn't have a more substantial shelter setup.. I worried for you Dear!! But,, YOU DID IT!! More than I can say for myself, who only talks or dreams about getting fit and not scared to get out into the outdoors and brave the boonies I would love....I've only been simple camping, years ago. I'm in my mid 60's and hubby can't do much...I don't want to really be alone...God Bless Your Strength and Fortitude! Thanks so much! You ARE A ANGEL of The Mountain Trails!! Have fun in NZ!! Sounds MAGICAL! I hope they don't force A Lockdown, that would surely suck big ones!!!! 🙄 Keep On Trekkin!' 🤗😇👍🏕🏞🗺🏔🌌- Mindi💚💚🌹
Dixie thank you so much for sharing this video!!! You captured the beauty of the Tetons! It feels like we are “there hiking with you”. Very very well done!
Teton Crest Trail was my first BIG backpacking trip and I used some of your videos to help prepare. very cool to see you did this trail. Thanks for all the help you give the backpacking community.
Nothing says "Nature" like a good oboe solo followed by flute and strings leading up to a full orchestra! 😊 I went from tent to tarp to poncho/tarp (MLD rectangular), to Henessy Hammock to Gossamer Gear Spinn Twinn and hammock with separate bug net and straps to Hammock Gear DCF winter tarp with doors and a Hummingbird hammock solo and a Sierra Madre Shield bug net. Steady improvement. Gorgeous scenery captured well and the best Southern narration on RUclips! Love what you do, Dixie! 👍👍
I love the sound of thunder in the mountains. It's a shame that so many people only see the Tetons only from the road. There's so much more to them. I hope you enjoyed your hike. Too bad it was smokey. My heart goes out to all those that have lost their homes, and towns to the fires.
You are flippin' amazing. I only hope to have the courage and stamina that you have in your adventures. I am getting involved later in life at 54, but excited about it. I may be hindered by age and not in the best of shape, but I am living with the knowledge that the better part of my life is behind me, so what the hell, why not just go for it. If it kills me, I died doing my adventure. (And I'm not afraid of dying, I'm afraid of getting old without living my best life) I'm just waiting for Alabama to close the gates of Hell (100°+ down here in Mobile) so I can get back outside and condition more. Thank you Dixie for documenting all your experience for us beginners!
Reminds me of when I did the Teton Crest trail from Rendevous Mt. to Jenny lake. Pack weighed 90 lbs and I weighed 135. Took 9 days as we took a some rest days to day hike..Table Mtn....Saw a sailplane cross from Idaho, circle the Grand and then back to Idaho..It crossed over Table Mtn. where we were less than 500 feet above. Inspired me to become a sailplane pilot/instructor..Seeing the Grand Teton after a blizzard swept through..in Sept., like 1988..went from 65F to 23F and 6" of snow with lightning...Had ice axes to safely cross a snow field (you crossed it in this video but it was WAY bigger when I was there! SUch a wonderful time. Your video was so cool!!
Love this style video… on the trail, lots of nature, and just enough sharing of the feel and experience. Vicariously hiking and camping through your eyes and lens. Thanks for being you for us!
As a 58 year old male I really enjoy your videos ,and think how lucky your are to do these amazing backpack trips at such a young age.I am really thinking of quitting my job of 38 years in the next year and attempting an AT thru hike.Your story and videos have helped inspire me.I thank you for that.
Dixie, I think that was the MOST STUNNING hike video I have ever seen, from you or anyone else. The views are breathtaking, and the animals seem to sense overall that you are not much of a threat. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
Dixie!!! I've been following you for several years and witnessed your growth as a film maker. Your comments and pointers about gear and general hiking are always relevant and insightful. But, oh! How your film making skills have evolved!! Capturing the nature we all seek when we hike, from magnificent vistas to critters, flowers and bugs is not easy. Yet you continue to out-do yourself with each successive video. This one, in particular, is a masterpiece. LOVE your channel.
Hey Dixie! I’m from WY and you did a beautiful job capturing the state I love! I thought of you and your channel lots this summer as I traveled east and did some camping, hiking and climbing. You’ve inspired me to someday hike the AT. I certainly underestimated the differences of Rocky Mountains to the Appalachian. Hope you come back soon- check out the Wind Rivers or Bighorns! Happy Trails 🧡
I've been watching your videos for about a year and a half now and they've inspired me to get back into backpacking -- this time solo. I did 100 miles solo last summer on the AT and I've tried new things I never would have before, including winter backpacking. I can't thank you enough. And this video is another great job done by both you and Aaron.
I loved hearing the music by the Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, “Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia”. It’s an old favorite and never better than here with Dixie’s stunning film skills.
Wow !!! Your video skills are incredible. Thank you for sharing your trips. It always impresses me how you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and try new things.
The way the last few minutes of the video was put together with the music and landscape montage before ending with the animals and the lament of having to go home was beautiful. I had to re-watch that part a few times 😂
Awesome video as usual Dixie. Appreciate the glimpse into your trek. All the wonderful views and wildlife are always good to see, but you captured my favorite thing about camping out in the middle of nowhere. 23:48. Getting away from the city lights pollution and seeing all of those stars. It’s mesmerizing.
That music is an excerpt from the ballet Spartacus, by Khachaturian. I love it. Gorgeous version on YT with Berlin Philharmonic at beautiful outdoor venue. The climax/high point is aurally and visually stunning.
Have been watching since 2018 when my friend hiked the PCT and I tracked her jealously because I wasn’t at a place in my life where I could take off for six months. I appreciate your videography. You capture the beauty and quirks of the landscape and its people and human travelers and residents so sincerely. Thank you for sharing. Your journeys remind me what a beautiful world we live in.
I can't wait for you to go to Isle Royale! I spent two weeks there, starting in Rock Harbor before going to daisy farm and then north to the minong ridge, which we took all the way to windigo, then we came back to rock harbor on the greenstone ridge trail.
The most incredible thunderstorm I have ever witnessed was in 1984 when I was attending the Grand Teton Orchestral Seminar and living in a condo in Teton Village. The storm rolled in about 2:00AM and lasted over an hour. Very loud and very long thunderclaps, and long bursts of lightening which flashed for two to three seconds each and often lit the entire valley. I sat comfortably in an easy chair and watched from behind a double sliding glass door. Much more comfortable than your set up. My three roommates slept through it all. Their loss. Two years later, I moved to Wyoming and have been living here ever since.
Im a nurse dealing with this influx of COVID pts...and to stop and get to see you Miss Dixie in this new trail video, is like a breath of fresh air! Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us! Such amazing country..
Wow! When I saw you butt-scootin’ down those rocks, boy did that bring back memories for me. Not far from that very spot I was stuck on a ledge. In a panic I was in that flight or fright mode. My legs were frozen. I was following my husband up the trail. Little did I know he was off trail. We had been hiking for about 10 hours, it was nearing dark and I was exhausted when I came to a hill of dirt. It seemed like nothing but by this point My legs were so shaky that knew if I misstepped I was falling 300 feet down rocks and boulders. So I just froze. Crying in a panic I just started praying. And out of nowhere came 2 hikers. They were above me and said “how did you get down there?” They told me to turn around. They met me at the switchback and helped me get back on trail. Paul and David. That was back in September 2017. They were truly my trail angels that day. Paintbrush will always be my favorite trail. Keep hiking and inspiring folks to get outdoors Dixie🥾🥾🤎🙏🏼
WOW! what an incredibly beautiful filming! I “happened” upon you a few months ago, and am still catching up on seeing all your vids. SO glad I did find your channel. And the music you put to this was perfect. You are very talented, and very likeable. I am also very appreciative of your informative/comparative vids. Thanks, Dixie!
New camera ? Visuals are stunning! Also that has to be one of the most stunning locations for a thru hike I've seen since your JMT footage. Jeez I gotta get out of Scotland soon.
Dixie, once again your pictures are so beautiful it makes me cry. Its amazing how u have grown since the AT days ...its amazing IM still following you ! LOL. I love to go back and watch u during those days. Thx for all u do.
Anyone remember that Modest Mouse song? "Blame it on the Tetons, yeah I need a scapegoat now..." I'd be singing this the whole hike. Beautiful footage! Glad you guys survived the storm okay!
The views in the Tetons are so majestic. At some parts it almost seemed like the Swiss Alps. I remember your CDT run-ins with lightning and no where to hide. Scary stuff! Your videography continues to inspire awe in me, Dixie.
I feel like you are safer in a hole/ditch. The lightning pose is about getting as close as to the ground as possible. You can't get closer than being in the ground. Good instincts
You could tell in the audio the dude was freaking out from storm to storm (cloud to cloud) lightning type thunder (not as loud and abrupt). That doesn't rule out a ground strike but if your hair isn't wet you can at least tell something is developing where you're standing on the ground because it will stand up and geez gtfo or get in the lightning stance. Regardless, yeah a crapshoot when above treeline and read converging storms and hope for the best because that's where you're at.
The time lapse of the starry night was just spectacular. Your videos are both inspirational and educational, especially for all us wannabes. Thank you!
A spectacular video with an incredible introduction. At times I thought I was watching a nature and hiking documentary that would of carried the “Official selection of….” Badge. I didn’t have any popcorn, and tore my bread up into tiny pieces to simulate the experience. The stormy weather scenes had me on the edge of my couch. Glad that I first watched this at home on the bigger screen. The music added a nice touch and gave the video an epic adventure feel. I could tell that you wanted to do so much more with the prompt ending. Bravo!!!
You are so lucky Dixie to have so much vast space to hike and explore. I live in the UK where there isn't much space anymore, so I've been camping and hiking trails in the South West since 1992 and I love your country.
You are one of my heroes. You are such an inspiration. Anytime you want to hike Pictured Rocks Lakeshore let me and my wife know. We did most of it last year.
Thank you Dixie for taking us along on this backpacking trip to The Tetons ... magnificent country enduring those rough thunderstorms and getting caught up at the pass, very dangerous! You certainly live on the edge. Thank you again.
Breathtakingly beautiful and someone commented below that the music in the backround was an Armenian composer just perfect. Can imagine it gets lonely but also being alone can indeed be a needed and healthy thing. The views and footage were incredible and really enjoyed this.
Like many others have said, this might be some of your best video work ever. It felt very authentic with a sense of reality that hiking is not just sunshine and rosesT - it is work that takes fortudide & confidence. Thank you!!
Wonderful video....My family went to Tetons in early July this year and did the Cascade to Solitude day hike. I have been all over this world and have yet to see anything like that little piece of heaven. Thanks for sharing your trip!!!
Welcome to Wyoming! (Or Wyomin', for us southerners). We spend our summers here; met the husband while working at Jackson Lake Lodge a while back. We call the twirly-tailed varments "whistle pigs". We're in the Bighorn Mountains at the moment but wanted to run over to the Tetons for a bit - this was all the motivation I needed! In Sept. we have a Wonderland hike in WA, so we best be getting our giddy-up on if we want to hit the Tetons this year. LOVED this video so much I watched it twice!
We’ll I fell off for a little bit but I’ve missed ya. I am realizing once again how amazing it is to see you try all sorts of things and new gear even at your own discomfort so you can show us all something. It’s beautiful and thank you.
This is one of the best nature videos I've seen. I really like how you slow down to capture all the beauty and the critters. Pikas are my favorite. Good commentary! You're tough and lovely. Keep it up... Thank You
Gorgeous opening nature photography! You continue to be a master of your craft, Dixie! Beautiful mountains and, er, "interesting" rain, hail, thunder and lightning. Wow. Just watching you is an adventure. And with a poncho tarp? Bravery incarnate! Hike on Dixie. Tortoise
Dixie!! It was so much fun meeting you and getting to spend time with you on this hike! Everyone in our crew thinks you were a wealth of knowledge and inspiration and just wonderful to be around. The music in this is the cherry on top. A human’s mind paired with nature’s beauty can do wanderful things. Good job.
26 minutes of pure joy! We are lost in the vast beauty of this beautiful country and *blink* conversation with a ground squirrel (or one of its relatives)! I so enjoy seeing your adventures through your lens and hearing the story you tell. Thank you!

the United States is such a beautiful country Jessica takes footage. Then, Aaron turns them into Gold. There are some stunning views in this video
Agreed. Truly a match made in heaven... Which is of course, somewhere very close to where Dixie was.
Jackson Home is really beautiful any time of year! But This ois definitely the most beautiful hike Dixie has filmed. Some of her shots look like paintings of the West, from the 1800’s because of the smoky air!

New hiking content from you is a much appreciated distraction/entertainment/inspiration.
Oh Dixie! What a magnificent hike! This one is the most beautiful! I can’t imagine being without a tent in that rain, but you manage every situation the trail throws at you with such equanimity and good spirits! You are such a good example to all of us!
My gosh! You have covered a lot of ground in this pandemic year in spite of all!
This is some of your best work. I wish it could have been a longer journey for the both of us. What amazing vistas.
And then the milky way at night.. WOW! foliage, landscapes, & mountain lakes. Tetons look great.
The editing on this video is second to none
Here in SoCal, we've heard of this mythical substance, "rain", so it's nice to see that it actually exists!
I’m from northwest Europe. Oh, it exists..!
Keep On Trekkin!' 🤗😇👍🏕🏞🗺🏔🌌- Mindi💚💚🌹
Dixie thank you so much for sharing this video!!! You captured the beauty of the Tetons! It feels like we are “there hiking with you”. Very very well done!
Teton Crest Trail was my first BIG backpacking trip and I used some of your videos to help prepare. very cool to see you did this trail. Thanks for all the help you give the backpacking community.
How many miles and how long did it take you to complete your Teton Crest Trail Hike?
You’re amazing Dixie. Such an inspiration and role model for young women. Thank you for sharing your beautiful adventures.
Absolutely, we took our ten year old daughter for a 10 day hike of the west coast trail in July...more than once she referenced Dixie
Nothing says "Nature" like a good oboe solo followed by flute and strings leading up to a full orchestra! 😊
I went from tent to tarp to poncho/tarp (MLD rectangular), to Henessy Hammock to Gossamer Gear Spinn Twinn and hammock with separate bug net and straps to Hammock Gear DCF winter tarp with doors and a Hummingbird hammock solo and a Sierra Madre Shield bug net. Steady improvement.
Gorgeous scenery captured well and the best Southern narration on RUclips! Love what you do, Dixie! 👍👍
The video quality is unbelievable! Beautiful editing, music, everything. Love this
I love the sound of thunder in the mountains. It's a shame that so many people only see the Tetons only from the road. There's so much more to them. I hope you enjoyed your hike. Too bad it was smokey. My heart goes out to all those that have lost their homes, and towns to the fires.
Dixie, I love your vids so much! I just thru hiked the CT and met RIGGA! Couldn’t have done it without all your vids/inspiration!
Dixie, best video yet. You’ve developed your storytelling craft in all areas. And the views and music brings one to tears. Thank you!
Absolutely stunning scenery nicely captured for us. Thanks.
Dixie! Your hiking videos have been missed. I draw great calm from your videos.
Reminds me of when I did the Teton Crest trail from Rendevous Mt. to Jenny lake. Pack weighed 90 lbs and I weighed 135. No creature Great or Small, crosses paths with Dixie with out getting some camera time.
I Love it.
A modern day Snow White, our Dixie! 😊
Dixie!!! I've been following you for several years and witnessed your growth as a film maker. Your comments and pointers about gear and general hiking are always relevant and insightful. But, oh! very well stated, sir

Best hiking music ever on Dixie’s videos.
Thank you for defining it. I was busy wracking my brain for the title.
Thank you for identifying this!
There was a UK series, the Onedin Line which had this music at the title sequence. Glorious
Sharr.... Thanks for identifying this. OMG this music is life changing~
Your appreciation of Classical music coupled with Nature has restored my faith in Humanity and the Arts. Thank you for sharing it.
Awesome video as usual Dixie. Appreciate the glimpse into your trek. Loved that intro with the classical music... Felt like watching a video of the wild west set to Aaron Copland
That music is an excerpt from the ballet Spartacus, by Khachaturian. I love it. Gorgeous version on YT with Berlin Philharmonic at beautiful outdoor venue. The climax/high point is aurally and visually stunning.
Thank you
All I could think of was The Hudsucker Proxy - You know, for kids!
@@TimpTim wait, Khachaturian wrote more than Sabre Dance?
Have been watching since 2018 when my friend hiked the PCT and I tracked her jealously because I wasn’t at a place in my life where I could take off for six months.

Dixie’s beautiful southern lingo just makes me so happy. Y- Omen💕

WOW! what an incredibly beautiful filming! I “happened” upon you a few months ago, and am still catching up on seeing all your vids. SO glad I did find your channel. New camera ? Visuals are stunning! Also that has to be one of the most stunning locations for a thru hike I've seen since your JMT footage. Jeez I gotta get out of Scotland soon.
I’m know the camera Dixie used in this episode is a Sony … but which one? Don’t see it in her gear lists. Anyone?
When I was about 13 my family stopped at the tetons, they were, and still are my fav place. Just something about the energy there. Love it.
This is probably my most favorite video you've ever done.
Your photography and videos just keep getting better and better. Thanks!
Your video was just what I needed today♥️
Your so gorgeously captured the thrilling beauty of the Tetons. Made me nostalgic for my hikes there.
"She's taking a picture of the mountains, buddy. Not you." TOOK ME OUT lol
😂
Oh. My. Goodness. That view at 23:42! Stunning!
I gotta think if Snow White had taken up backpacking this is what it would look like. Thank you Miss Dixie, you inspire!
Dixie, once again your pictures are so beautiful it makes me cry. Its amazing how u have grown since the AT days ...its amazing IM still following you ! LOL. I love to go back and watch u during those days. Thx for all u do.
Anyone remember that Modest Mouse song?
"Blame it on the Tetons, yeah I need a scapegoat now..."
I'd be singing this the whole hike. Beautiful footage! Glad you guys survived the storm okay!
I do!
I've spent almost no time backpacking in the Tetons but have spent many glorious days in the Wind Rivers. Mostly alone. Your Teton trip looks amazing!
Been missing your Wednesday vlogs. Good to have you back. That western scenery is without equal in my limited experience.
Love this video - lush vegetation, flowers, critters, rains, hails, scenery, etc.
That place is gorgeous!! ' I can't wait to see it.
The views in the Tetons are so majestic. At some parts it almost seemed like the Swiss Alps. I remember your CDT run-ins with lightning and no where to hide. Scary stuff! Your videography continues to inspire awe in me, Dixie.
5 minutes in and I'm missing home....I was raised in Wyoming and those mountains were my playground....now I'm stuck in Texas lol homesick like crazy
Wyoming to Texas.... I'm sorry!
@@MattShafter 😂Thanks....I start feeling pretty sorry for myself in the summer here😂😂😂
Spectacular! Thanks for taking us along with you Dixie.
This was so beautiful. really thinking of doing this one... Thank you.
Some incredibly beautiful footage!! Your videos are so entertaining and honest. The images you capture are amazing!
this feels so adventurous! especially with the experimental tarp thing!
i wonder if everyone recognizes you or how many people do. 90%?
Norm Abrahams inspired thousands of people to take up woodworking. You are the Norm Abrahams of hiking. Keep it up and God bless
So nice to see video like this with classical music. It fit the scenery very well.
"His tail goes twirly twirly twirly" Seriously, when are you going to do a video of nothing but the best Dixie-isms?
Yes please, Dixie this is a GREAT idea 🙂!
“Hangin on like a hair on a biscuit.” And “Here comes the devil” have been added to my repertoire.
“Holy guacamole, “ I think she’d rather have her tent. Texas
Majestic. Spent many a day in the Tetons and you beautifully share this. Thank you.
0:04 when you're French and are greeted with : "BIG NIPPLE NATIONAL PARK"
😂🤣😂
The time lapse of the starry night was just spectacular. Your videos are both inspirational and educational, especially for all us wannabes. Thank you!
14:58 I know it's no laughing matter, but I can't help but crack up that the guy that passed you does a short Naruto run lol.
I'm still trying to figure out what happened to that guy!
@@brycewalburn3926 I assumed a big chunk of hail hit the back of his head and startled/panicked him.
Lmaooo, same
Dixie...You always take time to smell the roses...Thanks for sharing some wonderful footage.
Watching you cross the creek in that yellow tarp poncho (c. 13:09) made me laugh so hard I was in tears. Like something right out of Monty Python.
Bravo!!!
if house prices keep driving skyward I'm moving into Grand Teton National Park.
Good luck… the billionaires kicked the millionaires out a long time ago.
Thank You Dixie for the wonderful video. I have only seen the Tetons from the road. I must return. It is so beautiful
"Not a bad view no matter where you look" is the truth. Beautiful!
This was absolutely stunning, Dixie, thank you for braving the hail to bring us this footage, and I'm thankful you made it through those storms! 💚
Love the Tetons. When I hiked it in the 70s there were lots more snow-covered peaks but it's still beautiful even today.
Dixie , your views on the trail are spectacular. Thanks for taking us along. So much beauty to see..
Appreciate you trying different things like the tarp and bivy. It’s like you’re performing a public service. Love the wildlife and flowers
Tortoise
You made it pretty clear to me that I’ll not be tarp tent camping ever! Love the security, warmth, and protection of a good tent!
Gorgeous countryside. You so so good hiking and filming. Thank you. Blessings
