One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."
The LORD replied:
"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

this reminds me of my grandpa that he was never gone. He Died on September 4, 2012.
Colton reminds me of a best friend... he loves me and sings all the time to me... he loves my grandpa.....

it is. I am going through different things and this song the words are something I have been using to remind me of my purpose and why I go through what I go through I won't say the song saved me ever but I believe it is a good reminder.
Love Colton, i'm Catholic but Christianity isnt much different from being Catholic because after all we both believe in God and I love how Colton is using his voice for Jesus. He's so amazingly talented. There needs to be more people like him in this world.

I think Colton really has a gift. Everytime I listen to the songs he sang, I can feel every emotion he put into the song. I don't know what he's gone through in his life but he certainly knows how to bring it all into a song. It's just wow!
I was feeling really crappy last year. I felt like everyone had left me. My friends, my family, I even felt like God had abandoned me. My friend introduced me to this song. He said for me to listen to the song and read the lyrics. I did both and as soon as he started singing, tears came pouring down my face. I cried throughout the entire song because I realized that God had never left me. Anyway, this is a great song for anyone to hear who feel like He isn't there or that He doesn't care.

Colton you let the world know you are a child of God! you let everyone know he is first in your life and you sang for him on American Idol. Blew the judges away with the songs,for them to think maybe be convicted of the lyrics you sang. Just like the song everything by lifehouse gave me chills.You stayed true and God is blessing you abundantly. It paid for you being faithful to his word. Colton Dixon brought me here. I've been a fan of him before he was on American Idol, and I listened to this song the first day it came out. So proud that he stayed true to his calling.
Its astonishing how my emotions can drive me into a state of depression, loneliness, and bitterness towards Jesus Christ, because I "feel" that He has left me... Oh, I love you, Lord! For He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
I would've love for Colton to win. Colton is a strong Christian, and he knew what he wanted to with his music career. He wouldn't have slipped into the mainstream music. Only if him, and God wanted to.

No cover can be better than the original, because the original is THE original. The original is the point of referance. The original singer/song writer of the song made the song a certain way because they wanted it to be that way. Simple as that.

Angie seems talented and all, but did no one come here because they already knew and love this as Colton Dixon's song? I love his whole album, no one does a better version of this song than him. Angle was good, but Colton is breathtaking!
My interpretation of the lyrics is that it is God speaking, saying that He didn't disappear and that he is always there. That is why we are never alone, because He will never leave us alone.
with all these problems around i felt i have strayed away from God. i got lost in my own darkness until i began to wilt. i lost the faith to keep hangin' on even when everything's on its hardest. until i hit the ground hard. it was then that i realized that i still have Him. now i have to prove that i really was never gone. that i just got lost and now i'm back on track. it's in every man's darkest hours that He shines brighter to keep us strong in our belief that everything will be alright.
I love this song. It has so much meaning to me since I just lost my son Jas to Melanoma a year and a half ago. He was a singer songwriter and this reminds me so much of him and his message of light to those around him during his journey. God bless you Colton for sharing His truth!

The only reason he sings is because he enjoys it and he wants to praise God with the talent that He gave him. His voice is amazing and choosing to use his voice to praise God is just wonderful.
It's a blessing in disguise that he got voted off Idol. God had much bigger and far greater plans for him. If he had won, he would have been locked into a contract and probably restricted with his recording choices and pushed to be mainstream. What a great talent.
It's funny,"Jesus" is mentioned like once in this song, but when you put Jesus in this song it gives it full meaning. I think it is a great song for people that think God has left them and they shouldn't be a Christian because of that, but this song gives a better understanding.
I cry whenever I get to the "Jesus never ever left you" part. I really appreciate this. I like him and his music. :-)
The music may be good, but the true beauty of this song is its meaning, I mean, I think it's pretty clear the song's purpose is to encourage people, and to be a light for Christ. He is unashamed of his faith, and people admire him for it. :)
The great thing about this song and what Colten is sharing is the relationship you can have with God/Jesus. It's the thing that sets Christianity apart from all other Religions. It's all about loving God and loving other people. There are so many fake Christians out there and I know because I used to be one, Just going through the motions of "Religion" not willing to be bold for Jesus. It's amazing just reading the bible for yourself and finding out what true Christianity actually looks like.
I have to say, Never Gone and Shelter are tied for my favorite songs ever. Colton's music is so inspirational & overall amazing. The lyrics have so much meaning
I am so happy to see that Colton is already releasing songs. He was my favorite contestant from the start. It was such an encouragement to see the way that he stood up for his faith.
Colton is a true American Idol even though he did not win he went with his heart on his decision to pursue Christian Music.. Jason Castro is also a Idol alum who is now an amazing Christian Artist.. Amazing..God Bless them ..
This song has such a huge affect on me. The first time i heard it in concert in march 2013, I knew exactly what it all meant. I cried.. A song has never had so much impact on my heart before. No matter how many times we think he's left us.. He will always be standing with us. He is with us all along.. and he will never leave us.

This song is packed full of hope. Hope is exactly what this world needs. The problem is, hope and conviction go had in hand, and the world hates conviction. We need to learn to love conviction and correction the way we love hope.
during the show i told my mom it breaks my heart to see him voted off of american idol, but i bet someone has already recognized him, one day he's going to be famous, and one day i would be buying his cd. he's not going to give up, he's always had that passion and it can never be overlooked! ♥ So excited!!

I heard this in the movies when I went to watch the croods with my lil sis I absolutely love it:) Jesus is never gone he is always here for us it's us who sometimes walk away from lord when we should never walk away from him we should just create a much stronger relationship ship with him.
