    As a musician, I've got to say that she's absolutely right about working with pros. You can throw anything at them and they deliver, even better than you imagined.
    I was producing a session for a singer who wanted the Whitney Houston arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner, and he couldn't make the transition from 3/4 to 4/4 to save his life. So at one point I he horn player said, "Let's just play it in 3." Then these session sight-read 4/4 charts in 3/4 time, perfectly.
    I was at another session where I asked a soprano to read her part up a 3rd. No rehearsing, we did it in one take.
    So I can understand Betty White's appreciation, working with pros. It's a gas!

    My relative started 60 years ago as a young secretary at the largest radio station in NYC. She met and/or interacted with innumerable celebrities as she moved up the ranks. I recently asked her who was the most dislikeable or meanest? She said she had to spend several hours, one-to-one in 1967, while one of the future Golden Girls read over and OK'ed a radio script. It was the worst experience she ever had with a celebrity. I was shocked at who she said it was! So, evidently, not everything is as it appears.

    • @redessa01
      @redessa01 3 месяца назад +13

      No. If you Google "Bea Arthur was not fond of me" there's video of an interview Betty White did where she talks about the subject seriously. That's just one of many sources. Both Betty White and Rue McClanahan were fairly open about the fact that Bea did not like Betty. But I do think the "feud" aspect of it has been greatly exaggerated in the media.

    • @divalock5298
      @divalock5298 2 месяца назад +4

      It was a complete misunderstanding that led to Bea & Betty not talking. Bea thought Betty was mean to and impatient with Estelle Getty while she was suffering with Alzheimer's/Dementia. At times Estelle would forget her lines and Betty made jokes about it on set (I'm sure it was just for levity) and Bea thought it was mean. I want to say they may have reconciled before Bea died, but I don't remember.

    • @Maerahn
      @Maerahn 2 месяца назад +3

      @@divalock5298 I'll admit, I can kind of see why Bea would get annoyed about that. It's a difficult thing to pull off, using jokes to ease the tension around dementia - and honestly, speaking as someone with a family member who has dementia, it's not the best tactic to use. I'm sure Betty meant well, but... yeah...

      'hate' is probably a bit of an overblown descriptive ireckon lol..
      that said i picked up from a.. comment, ithink, if not an article recently some mention about bea finding betty's inclination to break4thwall and interact with the audience between takes (or something along those lines) to be unprofessional..? might have added to that^ in a compound fashion or been the baseweight of which the dementia jokes became a last-straw..?
      like, a clash or disagreement/incompatibility in working styles &/or philosophy is likely crazy common in the industry and gets made too much of often, imho.. but as smalltalkfodder or interesting tidbits for those of us (mostly) outside the industry it makes for munchable gossiplikes? She once said each of the 4 golden girls are like 4 points of a compas.each humors doesntbtrample on another’s characters take and there wasn’t one weak link. Together all doing their thing is pure magic. No reason to be jealous of the other. Each golden girl received an Emmy , so fitting. Betty received many Emmy’s from beginning of her 70 yrs in television. Always humble. She made sure that sue Ann Niven had right amount of spice on the Moore show as to not have audience begin to dislike self absorbed Niven. She played it perfectly. Glad she played Rose. Rue took her character to places Betty could’ve gone but playing her character gave her a unique challenge of playing the opposite of what Betty is - pure brains. Always humble always grateful. A true lady. Bawdiest thing she did was SNL . Once was enough. Good for her. A master.

    I really hate how everyone assumes the issues between Bea and Betty were all on Bea. We don’t know what went on between these women in private and no one is a saint not even Betty White.

      I saw an interview after Bea passed and the person worked behind the scenes on the show. He said Bea was very private and kept the job apart from her personal life. He said she was especially kind to the crew. And she went home after tapings; her family was her priority. He said her personality was not that of a jokester, even though she was funny as hell. She was "not Hollywood."

    She was really and honestly told the truth!! Bea really hated Betty in real life!! And did it with a smile!! And it was one sided. Betty was never mean or nasty to Bea like Bea was to her!!!!!

    Bea was a little jealous of Her popularity on the show..She didnt like Bettys ability to always greet the audience & sign everything for them..She saw Her as too friendly..Betty was awesome !
