      @fartkerson 4 года назад +83

      Yes, but that saying isn't literal. It means the good die young at heart. All good people die young at heart because they don't have anything to fear from death. When you die hardened from the years, you die old. When you die just as enthusiastically and full of optimism as a child, you die young. The bad will always die old because they're worried about punishment for their ill deeds.

      @@ingridfong-daley5899 Not exactly. First of all, Ecclesiastes is a book from the Hebrew Bible which is also one of the "wisdom books" in the Old Testament. It was written about 300 years before Jesus Christ. Also, he didn't write the entire verse. It says "“For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten.” Solomon wrote this book from an entirely EARTHLY perspective. In its most simplistic terms, it means that the dead can no longer enjoy or be rewarded for their activities in THIS life. If you read the entire book, Solomon says in 4:2 that the dead are happier than the living. But, when a person is dead, the opportunities to enjoy things on earth no longer exist. Its not a passage of gloom and doom.

No doubt this was because she was born at home (how quaint), fed her mothers milk until she was 2 years old (which beautified and feminised her). She was no doubt fed a very simple diet of red meat, potatoes and oatmeal even in sunny california. Her sweet Norwegian ancestry also helps!! She is the ultimate aryan doll!!

  • @hollybigelow5337

    My guess is that Bea Arthur was one of those people who was easily annoyed by people who are shall we say just too chipper and too happy. That's not anything Betty White did wrong, it is merely a clash of personalities. I have been the person who is too chipper, and I have been the person who is annoyed by the people who are too chipper, and I get that both can cause a clash. The fact that both still managed to find a way to respect each other professionally in spite of that natural clash in personalities is a real testament to their professionalism. And the fact that Betty just sees Bea's dislike of her as a mere curiosity and amusement and still seems to love her back in spite of it all is also such a sweet, huge credit to her. I think that is the core of the truth of her being and is why so many people from all walks of life love her. It is completely genuine, and truly remarkable.

    • @hollybigelow5337
      @hollybigelow5337 3 месяца назад +2

      @@beatriz9376 It’s an interesting theory. Personally, I don’t buy it. Part of why I don’t buy it is because when they surprised Betty White for I think it was This Is Your Life, although it is very subtle Bea does this really sweet squeeze of Betty’s shoulder, and there is a protective, loving look on Bea’s face. It’s way too subtle for her to be playing it for the sake of the cameras. In spite of the fact that they grated on each other’s nerves, or more specifically in spite of the fact that Betty grated on Bea’s nerves, to me in that moment it looks like in spite of it all Bea actually did genuinely care a lot about Betty, and in that moment she was feeling proud and glad that someone she cared about was getting an honor that she richly deserved. I admit I could be reading that moment wrong, but even though it was subtle it looked and felt extremely genuine to me. Bea got many, many accolades over the years for her work, and Betty also gave her plenty of credit and never tried to take away Bea’s limelight. I just don’t see Bea being that petty over Betty getting an honor when she was so proud and supportive and caring when Betty got another honor. I have no idea how Bea personally felt about not having her own star, but I do not for a second get the impression that she would direct any of her anger or disappointment or jealousy over something like that towards Betty. No, when I see their animosity, such as it is, I always get the impression that Betty is someone who regularly grated on Bea’s nerves and drove her crazy, but when the chips were down I suspect if anyone else had ever come after Betty Bea would have been the first person to be protecting Betty like a ferocious Lion protecting her cubs, and I also get the impression that when they were not grating on each other’s nerves that professionally Bea had no problem silently being Betty’s greatest cheerleader as long as it was from a distance where they weren’t driving each other crazy. But yes, that is me reading a lot into a handful of interactions and sparse evidence.

    • @carolynm8421

      You're right. Bea was a much more serious person, nothing wrong with that. I loved her work and she gave so much and really gave women someone, in two great shows, to truly admire. I think I read her best friend was Angela Lansbury and she was also close to Jean Stapleton. I think they all came from a theater background while Betty was out there being a television trailblazer doing so many firsts for a woman in that industry. All great ladies but just different. It's too their credit, as you said, they worked so well together and were mostly friendly in that work environment. Everyone we work with, after all, isn't always going to be our besties. Betty and Rue, on the other hand, were actually good friends so it's nice that they did have that beyond just being colleagues. What they all created together on that show has been such a gift to us all. I remember, long ago, sitting as a kid watching the Golden Girls with my grandma. Sophia would always crack her up. I'll always remember her when I watch Golden Girls and be thankful we had those moments together. -- Best wishes to you and anyone who reads this. 💛

    No offense to Bea, but I suspect she didn't like Betty just because Betty was so happy. I used to identify more with Bea, but now I'm more of a Betty. When you're a very unhappy person (through no fault of your own), there's something about people who are just happy that confuses and kind of angers you. Even when you try to hide it, the happy person notices your annoyance at their happiness.

We adults are. 2) Your wife freaking out w denial is the clue to the other two mishaps. Try to be there for your child/ren & easy does it friend for her. Maybe she will come back, if not to you, at least to her senses. 3) I have been an insomniac since my childhood (perhaps since the womb) & take 1/2 Bromazepam per night since 1981, when I was suffering devastation from the end of a great love relationship. The meds authorise me to sleep. 4)I never did night shift but several jobs at once... try at least to rest when you are home... in your bed or on the sofa are best. Comfort yourself w music, films, books, above all, friends you like/really care about. Try not to shut yourself off from these nor from what pleasures life has afforded you in the past. 5) They are still your family. Tell/write your wife re how important she & your kid/s remain even tho' separated. Stay Dad to your kids. 6) You are not too old now... to lead a new life. Even if you were in your 60s you wouldn't be too old. Age is in your head. And you said you're in a blur. So, give yourself time to trust life again. Please forgive me if I respond to your suffering piece by piece. Am only trying to help. I am a woman, but have been "there" where suffering lives. Take care & stay safe. It is normal for you to feel as you do... after all that trauma. Give yourself the same understanding & comfort you would give to anyone close. And good luck .

    Exactly what would Bea need to defend herself against? Did Betty say she was an evil witch? No. She merely said Bea wasn't fond of her. Nowhere in this interview did she bash Bea Arthur in any way, shape or form.

      Plus, I just finished reading story interviews from the Empty Nest cast. You know, the show that was spun off from the Golden Girls. The cast talks about their experiences working with Bea on their show or just being on the same sound stage. It was also confirmed that Bea could not STAND Betty, unfortunately.

      JhomasE That is sad. It almost sounds like Betty and Bea were the closest to truly being like their characters. Betty was petite, very cute, funny and charming. Bea was big, gawky, had a manly voice and look about her and had an angry vibe about her. I think Bea's problem with Betty was mostly jealousy.

      Well, the problem with celebrities and TV shows is no one knows what goes on behind the cameras except the actors. They can act like they love each other on the show and hate each other in real life. Look at Linda Evans and Joan Collins. They were friends long before Dynasty and were friends in the beginning years of Dynasty, but something happened and they ended up hating one another.

    Betty was just confirming what Rue McClanahan told everyone before she passed. It's not that Bea disliked Betty, I think Betty just got on her nerves sometimes. Conflict of personalities. They both admired and respected each other immensely on a professional level. Bea and Betty were polar opposites as far as personalities go so it's not unexpected that sometimes Betty's super sweet personality would grate on Bea's more reserved personality's nerves. Betty didn't say anything negative about Bea here, went on to say how much she admired and respected her. Love them both - they made magic together on screen along with Rue and Estelle. I still watch Golden Girls to this day. No other show matches it's level. Hot In Cleveland is also good since its great to see Betty on TV regularly with an ensemble of women, but it's vastly different from Golden Girls.

    I've just stared watching the Golden Girls this year. It's sad to think Betty is the only one left. But it's great to see her doing so well. And I can understand Estelle's fear of death very well. You don't know what happens at that moment..not a nice thought at all.

    • @DutchHPfan1992
      @DutchHPfan1992 9 лет назад +5

      ***** That's true. In the end she forgot about that fear, lucky for her. But, when you still know you have it, it's not nice. It's not nice for the relatives too.

      The bible says you can know where you go after you die. Jesus said " He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. Trust Jesus as your lord & savior. Repent of your sins & live for Jesus. He died on a cross that we might have eternal life.

    Really though, according to Bea Arthur's son, she did like Betty. They just approached showbusiness differently. Betty liked to talk to the audience between shots, Bea liked to stay in character and not engage the audience between shots, etc. Really just Bea was more old school, but they did get along.

      You might be interested and maybe relieved to know that many questions on talk shows like this are discussed and agreed upon before the cameras roll. Some might think it takes away the “magic” or whatever, but it’s actually a courtesy to the guest, to ensure they’re prepared to talk, make any statements they need to make, and happy to come back on the show.
