I love how you bring up back support! I made 1780s stays and it makes quite a big difference when i sit at my desk the whole day for schoolwork!

Until I started wearing corsets, I was completely unable to do any exercise, due to a pretty serious spinal condition that is disabling.
But now, because I have that back support, I’m able to do a modified barre routine, with tendus, and releves and plies. I’m able to do more arm workouts (again, also modified ballet exercises, because they’re very familiar to me, and because the focus on good posture and technique helps to prevent me from injuring myself). These are exercises that have been workshopped between me and my physiotherapist (me with my ballet experience, and her with her exercise physiology and medical experience).
And even though I can’t do what I used to (certainly not strong enough to go back en pointe and most definitely nothing that involves any impact of any sort), having exercises that are familiar to me makes them much more fun to do, and they find it comforting in a way.
I may not be able to do what I could- but I still have a perfect turnout, and my feet are very quickly getting back to being very strong bananas 😂. My banana feet is why Edwardian shoes work so well for me- no other style works so well with such a high arch and instep.
But I’m really thankful that I found historical corsetry. They enable me to sit up in my wheelchair for much longer periods, which means being able to actually go out for a day as opposed to being stuck at home in bed. And they enable me to do at least some exercise, which is also helping my strength and my pain levels- being stuck in bed or a wheelchair does atrophy the muscles something fierce! But now, I can do a lot more than I used to be able to, and both my Physio and my neurosurgeon approve heartily. They’re also much more comfortable (and much prettier) than modern back braces!

I’m so glad historical corsetry helps you and you can do a workout that works for you! Now I want to try a barre workout in my Victorian corset! Banana feet lol YES!

I just made my first corset mock up for corsetry in motion and I love it. Because it fits better than any of my bras, it was so comfortable, I didn't want to take it off, but as it was a mock up and not finished my bones would peak out the top periodically. Can't wait to get a fully functioning corset finished. Stinkerbell is really cute.

Yes!! If it didn’t take more time (and I’m only talking a few minutes but sometimes I’m impatient) to put them on, I’d wear my stays or corset every day!

Yes ! Sports in corsets ! I've found the same regarding what poses are annoying with corsets or not affected. Child's pose was NOT comfortable, but switching to extended child's pose did the trick... ?

Yeah, child’s pose was weird until I relaxed into the extended version!

I’m hoping my first Regency long stays will become a wearable mock-up for back support!
