    Thanks for confirming my intuition . I hate when I discover ,too late that I bought the wrong thing , and , may not even live to regret it .
    I sometimes have to do a small repair on our roof .
    What concerns me the most is the possibility of a rolled ankle , while crossing the roof . If I were to lose my balance for just a split second , gravity might pull me down the sloped surface faster than my reaction time can manage the dynamics .

    I'm 14 months post trimalleolar fracture with dislocation & syndesmosis ligament rupture with ORIF surgery. I had 6 months of physio (35 sessions) and was released because my progress was plateuing. But, the pain is still severe all over my lower leg & foot. I've developed a suspected posterial tibial tendonitis which has become debilitating. I recently purchased the lace up brace and it's worked wonders for easing the pain! I'm just worried about becoming too reliant on it.

    Watching, shopping, reading, and searching, I have been looking for something specific and so far I have not seen it for sale. For the people with arthritis in their feet, what we really need is a brace that works more like a weight distribution device such as a walker boot. These braces focus on restricting motion but will not save a person much from a long day on their feet. A walker boot serves the purpose of using your calves as extra support that literally takes weight off your feet and distributes it evenly across a larger area. Essentially, turning your whole lower leg into your foot. There is just a few problems with them. Number one, you can't drive with them on. It seems to me that the purpose walker boots serve, could be served just as well without the huge cast aspect of a walker boot. I've seen braces such as Tayco recover x, but since it doesn't touch the ground before your feet do, it will also not offer much for weight distribution. We need something that attaches to the claves, with a solid metal frame of some sort that goes under your heal. Really, we just need an aircast that is thinner, and lighter, and can perhaps be slipped into a person's shoes like with other braces.

Whenever I swim, there is pain and discomfort every time I kick. I have bought the ASO ankle stabilizer and am having second thoughts. I am unsure if it will really help me. • @gaiauniversity5882
      @gaiauniversity5882 Год назад +2

      You must allow your body to heal or you can tear something else, make it worse or at the very least slow down the healing significantly. When we attempt to operate, specifically competition while injured our bodies struggle to maintain structure, so what it will do is shift the force/energy to a stronger, less compromised portion of that particular limb ultimately causing that area injury as well, ultimately causing and overall a more devastating injury that probably would require serious surgery. The time it takes for someone to heal varies so learn your body and do not skip steps in the healing process( rest/rehab/ light activity. It's hard to step away from life, but sometimes it necessary to get back fully healthy. It's okay to push yourself slightly in rehab, but know your limits and listen to your body because it will send signals when something needs to be addressed.

    Great info! I'm 21 months now removed from a total foot and ankle reconstructive surgery, where anything that could go wrong has. I was in a combination of fiberglass hard casts, then into a Bledsoe type of high boot, then back to fiberglass, and back into the Bledsoe boot. My surgery was done January 29th 2021 and I had 13 screws, and 4 plates put in, the Dr however chose not to replace the broken tendon that caused my arch to completely collapse and my foot was shifted out so much that my heal was dislocated, and because of that and the fact he also chose to not fuse the ankle during a 6 hour surgery. I now have 3 broken screws, and a broken plate, and the recently placed me in a C.R.O.W boot on August 4th. I haven't been able to drive during this whole ordeal, so I am now trying to figure this all out on my own I guess. I should add that the surgeon who did my surgery knows about all of these issues, my foot is now in much worse condition than it was in my x-rays and CT scan which were done just prior to my 2021 surgery, and then done again by a second orthopedic surgeon this June, after my initial surgeons office began blowing me off after my February 27th visit this year. I'm just trying to now get my life back, since over the course of the last 21 months I've been unable to drive, go back to work, or do much of anything except leave the house for Dr appointments, and recently started physical therapy sessions which I now have had 6 sessions and have made very little progress even doing all of the exercises my physical therapist has given me to do in an attempt to gain strength in my ankle and hips which has been completely shot from being in the combination of casts for over 20 months! If what I'm interpreting here I should be in a brace with the side supports, is that correct? My physical therapist thought that an ASO brace might work best for me, as it may be the only one in which I could possibly fit my foot inside a shoe with it. I should also add that my foot now has a dislocated heel again, and is slightly rolled inward once again. I just feel as though the surgery and 21 months following has all been for naught, as I'm in a much worse state now than I was prior to my surgery, and the Dr doesn't seem to think I have anything to worry about as far as the broken hardware inside my foot.

    Your comparison videos on ankle braces were very helpful thanks. I had ORIF 4/24/22 - broke ankle bone in 3 places, have 11 screws & 1 plate. It's still painful to walk "normally" - hard to have "normal" gait when it's still so painful after 8+ months! PT is painful. Constant swelling. Ortho surgeon suggested removing some/all of screws+plate 4/2023-5/2023. In meantime, I've been weaned from walking boot w/walker, then walking boot w/cane reg. tennis shoes w/cane. I was told to buy a "soft" brace w/adjustable straps. Looking at Shock Dr. and Medspec ASO /ASO Evo. What might you suggest? I have read/heard your disclaimer thanks. SP

    Middle-age folks with leg /foot fractures : Don't start supplementing additional calcium in an effort to heal faster. The body is able to get rebuilding materials from food or from other parts of the body. A dieted based on vegetables and token amounts of protein will do the trick. Avoid smoking, Alcohol, & sugar.
    Regular & consistent exercise, per PT instructions , is the way to progress to recovery.
    Extra Calcium in the bloodstream may lead to cardiovascular stiffening and or plaque build up. Cardiovascular Plaque has calcium as a main ingredient.

    Great video however, please help me. I’ve played football (Soccer) all my life and it’s my favorite sport. No matter that I like other sports too but it gives me so much pleasure. However in the last couple of years 7 I’ve sprained my ankle 9+ times. From smaller to greater. In august it happened again. The hospital actually saw that had been broken a little bit a couple of years ago, but it was just yet another sprain. Now it’s happened again. 3rd time in a year. January, August, January. I keep working on it. Doing exercises from RUclips etc. But one wrong tackle on me and it’s gone again. I know it has become weak, so I need to keep working on it. But I also want to play. I’ve used these ankle socks, and bands you can tighten, but even so it happens again. I’m also afraid to use the T2 as it will make it weak rather than strengthening it. Any advice? I’ve seen a product called empowerband, but also looks a bit like a scam.

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  2 года назад

      As mentioned, strengthen exercise is best. But the unpredictability of sports make it so that having a brace or guard of some type would probably be helpful. As long as you are not wearing the brace all day long as well continuing the ankle exercises will be fine, but consulting with local medical professional would be best to get specifics to your case.

      Hey Rubie,
      Based on your scenario, it would be best to ask your local medical professional than just ask me. It is very difficult for me give accurate advice without doing a thorough evaluation on you. There are different protocols to depending on what was done in the surgery. A local physical therapist or physio will be able to help you with what pain is ok and what is not ok to feel.
      However, I will say it very typical after surgery for people to wear a boot. If there are wounds, than it would make sense to have the splint be a more open foot device, similar to an AFO.
      Hopefully you found this helpful.

      Given that the injury happened so recently, it would be classified as a acute injury. For that case, depending on how it is presented you might want to go with something that is more stable like a lace up brace. I am just guessing that it is very sore, so something like the elastic knit brace would probably be more comfortable.

    I have ankle overpronation. I have been trying different exercises but no results, just pain. I’m thinking of using ankle braces. Which of these do you recommend to fix Eversion?

      It would probably be best to follow up if your local physical therapist. Ankle brace are not typically used for ankle pronation or eversion

    I rolled my ankle about 2 weeks ago stepping in a pot hole while tracking a fly ball. It’s nothing that requires medical attention really and is almost fully recovered, however I still feel some pain when I try to run. I recently signed up for a 10k and want to get back to training since it is coming up soon. What brace would you recommend to use while going for jogs?

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  2 года назад

      You probably would be ok with an all around brace. But it comes to preference in terms of how thick of a material you want it since you plan to use it for running

    Hey Dr. Michael T. I recently lost balance while making a cut in football not allowing me to plant my foot properly to change direction, so my ankle rolled and I heard 2 cracks from it. Should I be concerned because I currently can’t move it in, up or down, and a little out

    • @ForTeamTang
      @ForTeamTang  3 года назад

      Ankle brace selection will be based more on the current state of the ankle condition ( stable or unstable?) If the ankle is unstable, a ASO may be preferable. If it is stable, a restrictive option like Shock Doctor Ankle Stabilizer with Flexible Support Stays (amzn.to/2SIEDZn) might be a better selection.

    Are there any studies done on the possible "reliance" on ankle braces after an injury? How do you determine if you really need ankle support, especially after months/years of the injury?
    For context: I've had multiple (5+) ankle sprains over the years and this past November, I had another one, which to this day is still hurting whenever I try to put some force on that foot and restricting my ability to run. I transitioned into wearing an ankle sleeve last week to provide some support when I walk, but it's hopeless when I try to get back into running. I'm considering wearing my laced brace to run, but I've been seeing pretty diverse opinions regarding this matter. Some claim that you'll grow a reliance on the ankle support making you not using your ankle and thus getting "weak", or that your knees/hips will be compromised in order to allow the range of motions that you would normally do with a mobilized ankle. I can see their logic but I'm not sure if this is true or not. Either way, it does makes me become weary and confused about what I should do to let my ankle heal while engaging in some sports. Would love to know if you have any opinions regarding this matter!

      I can''t think of any studies off the top of my head at the moment..
      But what I will say usually is that "it depends".
      For example , if some one dislocates their shoulder , they are likely forever going to be less stable than if they did not get the dislocation. So in that case, maybe a brace would be effective to help them with the stability. That being said, it really is dependent on the severity of the injury, if it is relatively minor than you probably wouldnt want as much wearing the brace given that your muscles can probably be enough assuming they are adequately trained. But if it is really severe, than a brace in conjuction to stronger muscles would be helpful.
      For athletic endeavors , I would say wearing a brace is probably a better idea given that athletic activities are typically higher force and more unpredictable. For day to day activities, braces are probably going to be over kill given the lower force and greater predictability.
      Every case is going to be different . It is dependent on what activities are being performed. Doing a squat with restricted mobility is going to likley impact your hips and knees, where as doing a deadlift, ankle mobility is not as important.
      General rule of thumb is strength is never a bad thing when it can be controlled. Uncontrolled strength can potentially be dangerous.

    I think my case is a bit unique. I don't think mine is from hyperextension from inversion or exversion.
    My pain is from the tendon that's right below the inner ankle which i think is from the flexor hallucis longus. I think i got the pain from the leg press. Im short so in order to get the weight off the rack i have to push off with my big toe which put too much stress on the flexor hallucis longus.
    The pain only pops up from walking for more than 10 minutes. I think I'll need a brace that prevents plantar flexion. Or even better a brace that prevents flexing the toes but I doubt that exists.

    My left ankle my permanently damaged from a car accident, and I advised not to add stress to my left ankle, I had two surgeries performed in 2018 and since then I've been wearing compression socks to help keep it stabilized while I'm walking. I can no longer wear dress shoes, so I've been looking stability for alternative ways for my ankle. I only wear something on my ankle when I'm outside my home because I'd never know how much walking I my have to endure. Currently, I have screws and rods in my ankle. I no longer exercise, run or perform stressful activities. I've been thinking about biking....but again thinking.
