Thank u sooo soo much for this informationak video. Had a grade 3 and grade 2 tear on two od my ligaments + a pretty gnarly fracture and loose piece of bone in my ankle, caused by two years of neglect and no proper rest (I’m 15 btw). Currently recovering from ligament reconstruction 10 weeks ago and going very well. I’m thinking of buying the A2-DX as it would really put me at a piece of mind and the A1 for my other ankle which I have had trouble with sprains before but not as bad. Do you reckon this would be food for my ankles. I will of curse strengrhen my ankles in the gym and playing when there is less eisk of spraining. Anyway love ur vid and keep it up
Thanks for the great and helpful video! I have a question. My 12 year old son broke his lower tibia near the ankle (non-displaced) about 7 weeks ago. He's out of the cast and just got out of a boot but when he resumes sports a couple of months, the ortho recommended he get an ankle brace with cross straps to provide stability for 6 months. Do you think the Zamst A1 is the best option for that or the Zamst A2-DX? I wonder for a kid if the A2-Dx might be too rigid or too much. Thanks for any suggestion you can offer!
Great video Dr Zach. I'm torn between whether should get an A2-Dx or an A1. I have a grade 3 torn ATFL and grade 2 CFL which brace you would recommend?
Hey Doc, just sprained my ankle for the 5th time, just get unlucky I guess. I’m looking at the a2dx or the better guard. Have you heard of this brand and what do you think of it. Thanks as always
Hi Dr, I broke my ankle playing pickleball and had ORIF surgery for bimollar fracture with a tightrope. Would you recommend any of these braces if I want to start playing again? My surgeon acts like my ankle is even more stable now vs before because of the plate/screws & tightrope. I still have a lot of stiffness.
Worth mentioning you can use an ankle brace with some barefoot shoes like Xero for those quick lateral movements and support to reduce injury. I can no longer play in regular tennis shoes because they are not zero drop or the stack height is like wearing high heels or the toe box is too narrow causing unimaginable pain.
Thanks so much for these videos, they're so informative and helpful! I have started getting really serious about pickleball training / playing more often throughout the week and haven't rolled anything / had an incident, but started experiencing some light right ankle pain (like in the front left of the right ankle). I realize from your sudden pain post exercise vid that it's likely due to increased stress on the bones and I need to take stretching and recovery more seriously (new to being +30 years old I guess). The thing is I have naturally super flat arches, with a generally straight foot (no C curve). Given what you said about arch pain being helped with the A2's over the A1's, but also the fact that I haven't actually sprained anything, I'm a little lost about which one to spring for. Any tips for a poor grad student with a limited budget?
I’m exactly 1 year post distal comminuted tib fib fracture treated with a closed reduction. I’m still having a lot of pain. My range of motion is crap. I can’t afford to pay for PT copayments 3X a week for 6 weeks. I’m looking for physical therapy exercises that I can do at home.
Which would be best for post plantar fasciitis injury on my left foot. I currently wear Shock Dr. 847 Ankle Stabilizer and feel pain in my arch and plantar. For extra cushion I would wear another sock ontop of my brace. Id like to know of the a2-dx would be good for heel, plantar fasciitis pain? I see tibial fasciitis and arch pain.. curious. Thank you.
I would say of any it would be the Filmista unless you are getting pain from the PT tendon then maybe the A1 but you’d have to talk to your local doc - usually with plantar fasciitis orthotics are first- line treatment
@@FootDoctorZach Thanks for your reply. I purchased Move Game Day and Game Day Pro insoles for my basketball shoes. Pain starts from heel (feels like needles) to arch. When playing, it feels like my feet are getting heavy or tired. But, after a few games and warmed up, the pain goes away. Once I cool down, it comes back 10000% worse.
Can u recommend for those who hav an ankle tendon break which of these can giv a good support....the person is highly diabetic so cant fix the break through operation... So he needs to walk with how it is... If any of these can giv a support would help him a lot.
hi, I'm a cyclist, used to play basketball in school and still do so during winters. in high school approximately 17y ago i had a pretty nasty injury, i tore something in my ankle and it took me 3 months to start rehab. full recovery was around 5-6 months. since then i did not have anything like that fortunately but a couple of time i was close to a sprain, thus i think about it occasionally and i was wondering whether you would recommend wearing a brace as prevention. if so, which one would be the best? just bough the giannis immortality 3, have not played in them yet. I am a rather quick player, lots of steals and sprints, fast movements. thanks a lot! :)
I have owned this brace forever but have never been able to wear it due to a ruptured FHL and a torn longus brevis I also have bone coalition, medial problems, and tibial issues. After misplacing the brace for a year because I didn't want to wear my boot, I finally found it. When I tried to lace it up, I couldn't remember how to do it. The other videos online were too fast, with electronic music, and just ridiculous! But you saved me from tearing my brace apart and almost crying. Thank you SO MUCH! 😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I went into a physio last week with elbow, wrist and ankle pains. She did some tests and said I have hyper mobility in some of my joints, as a result although my tendons are strong/ robust, they don't necessarily support my joints, which I got away with when I was younger, but am now starting to pay the price. She told me to try wearing supports while doing my various sports, wrist has been easy, elbow not so much, but I don't know which level is right for ankles... After this video I feel like it's the second kind you mentioned because of the diversity, but I don't know, interested to hear your thoughts?
Hello, I have arthrosis in my right ankle from sports injuries (tennis). Without warning, it occasionally becomes inflamed, causing pain and swelling. Would the A1 ankle brace be good for combating arthrosis? Thanks
I’m an incomplete L1 spinal injury, with trauma to the caudal aquina, which results in very weak calves, and subsequent very painful ankles with just regular walking. We live in sw Washington and there are endless hills/mountains. What brace would you recommend which is going to prevent the ankle collapsing (toes raising to the point where my ankle is painful) when applying pressure to the ball of the foot?
Hi zach! Did you went half a size up on your shoe with the zamst a1?is kind of bulky looking and paired with nike performance socks,it might tighten the fit.🤔
Hey, I am planning to get the way of Wade low 10s. I have the Lebron 20s right now and I was wondering if you would say the way of wades are a good option for wide feet. Hey doc, I just had a grade 3 tear on my atfl and partial rupture on my cfl, Im wondering what i can do to get back into game shape and reduce/prevent scarring in my ankle. Thanks as always with the great videos!
When trying to support an ankle with overpronation from flat feet, is it better to try and support them with some kind of ankle support or go with insoles to support the arch? I had an issue with the latter due to low cut vb shoes and losing shoe lock in, so was curious about the former.
Dear Zach, coming from a grade 3 ankle sprain (tear of at least 1 ligament on the outside) wich would you suggest when I start to Play Ball again zamst a1 or the a2dx ?? Would just use it for Couple of weeks ..
Hello, I recently got my ankle sprained. It is not bad, I feel like I ll be ok in next 2-3 weeks. But now I got fear in my mind about it while playing volleyball. Which brace would you recommend me?
I have Ehlers Danlos with posterior tibial tendon dysfunction and Achilles tendinitis. My feet severely overpronate and I have to have a double arthrodesis to fix the problem but in the meantime I have a prescription for custom orthotics however I can’t afford that so my doctor suggested ankle braces. I still overpronate with the lace up ones with the Velcro straps. I was looking at Amazon and found kobepro stabilizing braces. Do these seem okay for my need? What would you recommend for me? Oh and to add I’m a nurse so I’m on my feet all day
Hi Zach, wondering what would be the way to go for me? I haven't injured my ankles playing basketball yet but I'm interested in getting braces for prevention purposes, and all my shoes fit for performance so I don't think I can get anything too bulky.
Great video as always. I’ve been using Zander A1 for over a year now and it seems pretty good (apart from having had an ankle injury that stopped me from playing for about 3 months) but that was because I landed on someone’s foot and twisted my ankle. Not sure if the A2 would’ve prevented that. Also, I’ve noticed that when warming up, Stephen curry doesn’t wear his ankle braces. (I’m assuming he doesn’t either in practices). Do you know why that may be? Is there a risk of something if worn all the time when playing?
Depends on the energy- probably would have at least blunted it- it’s always good to try and use the leg unencumbered so if he’s not planning on getting hit or cutting hard he’s probably wanting to test it and use it
Do you know if the A2 DX can work well with the TWO WXY V4? Recovering from a really bad ankle sprain but love the review you did on the V4 - looking for something to use across tennis, basketball, and great for flat/wide feet.
So back in May I rolled my ankle walking in my living room. It rolled so hard that I suffered a jones fracture. Ive been sidelined from playing any sports till November according to the foot doctor in my area. Ive been trying different ankle braces trying to find the best one to prevent another injury. I have a very physical job and cant afford to get injured again. I bought the A2-DX but the thing is so darn massive that it stretches my cleat like crazy. Am I looking at the right types of things to prevent reinjury with these braces or should I be looking at something else? Also, is November too early to be targeting a return to playing sports when I fractured it in May?
Hi, do you know Malleo Dynastab Boa by Thuasne stabilising ankle brace? is it better or worse than Zamst A1? And I have seen that there are older and newer Zamst A1 models. Are there any difference in between them?
I really would like to see what do you thinking about the adidas speed wrap ankle braces, those were one of the best ankle braces. They had the best balance between protection and playability (enough thin with strong TPU panels )
Hey doc, im late to this but are the zamst A1 good for a medial ankle sprained (moderate to severe)? because ive seen and read about it, mostly saying that its for lateral and nothing about medial. If anyone having the same situation pls i would much appreciate your time🙏🏻
I’m not dealing with any type of an ankle sprain however, I had arthroscopic ankle surgery at four points on my right ankle when I was 20 years old for degenerative Cartlidge. Whenever I play any type of sports for an extended period of time as I have recently just picking up playing pickle ball I have a lot of achy arthritic type of soreness and I probably just need some type of support brace that I could use while playing what would be my best option here? I’m 45 now
You’ve probably got arthritis, in which case you shouldn’t be playing any more to to help slow down it’s progression otherwise you’ll be pretty disabled by 50-60
So I dislocated my ankle along with 4 complete ligaments tears as well. I understand I should get the A2DX for my right foot. Should I match braces on both ankles or just maybe get the A1 for my other ankle.
I’m a 6ft almost 6’1 athletic and pretty bouncy guard (can dunk here and there when the ankle feels good and get good amount of boards) and had injury to my atfl. I’ve been looking to get a good brace but not sure what would fit my needs. Any suggestions?
We bought the Zamst A2 for my kid who plays competitive basketball at his high school. He had a high ankle sprain with injury to the lateral collateral ligamentous complex to include high-grade tear of the anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments, partial tear/sprain of the posterior inferior tibiofibular ligament, interosseous ligament injury with fluid extending from the joint space. He’s almost cleared to play in games after 4 1/2 months of rehab. The medium is the right size, but he said the plastic piece on the side digs into his ankle bone. Seems like this is the right brace for him for a high ankle sprain. Any suggestions on getting the right fit with this brace? Thanks
You’d have to take it to be evaluated by your doc but it seems like some adhesive foam or moleskin would do the trick- that’s what I usually do with braces of all makes and models - but again I couldn’t say for sure without an exam
Zach curious what your recommendations are for best ankle brace for someone who shattered there talus calcaneus and fibula and has terrible arthritis in subtalar joint. This is a 27 yr old male strong athletic build? Thanks!
I had knee surgery and am non-weight bearing on my right leg. After four weeks on the crutches, my left ankle is hurting. Would an ankle brace be useful?
Hey Doc, I had ankle ligament surgery 18 months ago. Going to start playing soccer again. Do I still need a brace and if so what level would you opt for. Don't want to over-do if it causes more problems but won't mind if its just extra protection.
Hey Doc, so I had a Grade 2 (near Grade 3, it was hanging on by a thread) AITFL tear in my right foot, and am nearing my return to sport after nearly 3 months with a walking boot. I did not get the surgery, and the most recent MRI shows very good healing of the ligament. Would the Zamst A2-DX be a good choice? Or should I just tape every time? Also, for how long should I play basketball with an ankle brace? Because I heard that I should not wear it for too long for fear of the ankle learning to rely on it and becoming weak. Thanks in advance!
Is it better to have tight shoes with just enough space for thick socks or slightly loose shoes with a little bit of space in your toebox. (For basketball as a defender and rebounder)
Chronic ankle sprainer who loves basketball. Been using ASO ankle braces for the past 5 years and haven’t had any issues with them but do experience a lack of mobility and feel slower in them. Would you recommend trying out the Zamst A2?
I’ve used both extensively - I actually started going to the a1 and a2dx after having a ton of stiffness and neuritis in the aso. I looked into several and these were the ones that had the least restriction of motion and security without being a slipknot. Ironically the a2dx has more freedom of motion than the a1 IMO but the A1 also has the CFL strap which I love- just depends what you want
I always sprain my ankle landing on someones foot coming down from a shot or some unlucky incident (I play pretty aggressive/explosive/shifty). I call them "freak accidents" because there's nothing I could really do its just my foot was wrong place wrong time (and arguable the defender should be more conscious of their feet). Would the A2DX help in these scenarios and protect the ankle a little more? Or would the damage be transferred up the chain to the knee or something?
That's what I always worried about. I haven't tried it out myself though but I have asked several physical therapists this question and they all said that it shouldn't pose a threat to injure other body parts, at least in those type of situations where you commonly sprain an ankle (landing on somebody's foot usually). I personally never wanted to wear a brace and just strengthen my ankles instead but it hasn't been all to successful for me so I might also try out one of these braces now
My 13 yo daugther recently landed on someone's foot while playing basketball and got level 3 inversion ankle spain. She rested for 5 weeks and got rehab. After felt better, she started training again using A1 short but it couldnt give protection in high intens drilling. She feels pain when running in high speed and changing direction, also when jumping and landed on her weak foot Do you think i should buy her A2 dx instead ?
I have sprained my right ankle minimum of 10 times, and I have a lace up brace. But now I just sprained my left ankle for the first time. Should I get 2 if the zamst A2? Is it bad to have braces on both ankles?
Hello Doc, recently i have a grade 3 ankle sprain and complete tear of my ATFL that i got from playing soccer and i already underone the surgery and still recovering, im planning to play again after fully recover , what are your recommendations of this Zamst ankle braces to use for prevention? Is Zamst brand actually works for soccer player because i hardly ever see a video review about soccer wearing this kind of brace. Thank u
I would say these are probably the easiest to get into a cleat- the A2-DX is the strongest - most of the players that have a complete tear go with the A2-DX over the A1

Just had surgery and currently going through PT. Plan to go back to playing basketball and training for a half marathon. Struggling picking a brace and I like the Zamst just not sure which one would be beneficial. Needing some guidance. Thanks!
just ordered a1-s thanks doc
Hey Doc, just got my first ever ankle sprain during volleyball. I landed on another players food and rolled myself into a grade two ankle sprain.
Should I now invest in one of these ankle sprains? Is it necessary after I rehab ?
What would you recommend for young baseball players? Great video!
Please do a review on the serious player only game 1 my bday is coming up and I want to buy them but I won’t pull the trigger until I see one of your reviews
Will there be a part 2 on how to pick a left one?
why does my zamst a2 dx hurt my lateral arch? its still my first time using it though, does it need breaking in? or did i place it too tight?
Anyway love ur vid and keep it up
Please do a review on the serious player only game 1 I think it would be really interesting
Bless you! Me too. Sucks
Once I cool down, it comes back 10000% worse.
so what would be best as a budget option for someone who has to keep playing basketball and has tendinitis
Can u recommend for those who hav an ankle tendon break which of these can giv a good support....the person is highly diabetic so cant fix the break through operation... So he needs to walk with how it is... If any of these can giv a support would help him a lot.
Which one would you recommend for peroneal tendon subluxation?
Both the A1 and A2-DX have properties that help but it really just depends on preference
hi, I'm a cyclist, used to play basketball in school and still do so during winters. in high school approximately 17y ago i had a pretty nasty injury, i tore something in my ankle and it took me 3 months to start rehab. full recovery was around 5-6 months. since then i did not have anything like that fortunately but a couple of time i was close to a sprain, thus i think about it occasionally and i was wondering whether you would recommend wearing a brace as prevention. if so, which one would be the best? just bough the giannis immortality 3, have not played in them yet. I am a rather quick player, lots of steals and sprints, fast movements. thanks a lot! :)
Do these braces also help with insertional Achilles tendinitis? My heels tend to hurt when playing and after
Are these braces good for also preventing achilles injuries?

Thanks
Any of these work for suplination? TIA
Yeah the A1 and A2DX can blunt the effects of abnormal pronation and supination
I’m an incomplete L1 spinal injury, with trauma to the caudal aquina, which results in very weak calves, and subsequent very painful ankles with just regular walking. We live in sw Washington and there are endless hills/mountains. What brace would you recommend which is going to prevent the ankle collapsing (toes raising to the point where my ankle is painful) when applying pressure to the ball of the foot?
Hi zach! Did you went half a size up on your shoe with the zamst a1?is kind of bulky looking and paired with nike performance socks,it might tighten the fit.🤔
Do you recommend wearing high top shoes to help ? I want brace but combine with high top and my ankle becomes so bulky.
I had ankle ligament reconstruction surgery about 2 months ago and am getting close to returning to basketball which would you recommend?
Hey, I am planning to get the way of Wade low 10s. I have the Lebron 20s right now and I was wondering if you would say the way of wades are a good option for wide feet. The Lebrons fit my feet really well, but I love the look of the wades I watched your review on them but I was still left wondering about how wide they really are.
Hey doc, I just had a grade 3 tear on my atfl and partial rupture on my cfl, Im wondering what i can do to get back into game shape and reduce/prevent scarring in my ankle. Thanks as always with the great videos!
Guided rehab and serial visits with your doctor to monitor progress
What about betterguards anke braces?
Can you tape an ankle plus brace? 14 YO starting back to BB after fracturing fibula growth plate. No surgery.
Can you use the second one to protect your Achilles tendon?
Can you review the Donjoy Pod?
I play football and am a DE/TE and have horrible ankles I’m thinking about getting the zamst a2 but didn’t know if they were more for basketball
You can wear them for football/soccer/lacrosse as long as your cleats fit them
What's the best brace for subtalar dislocation rehab?
Oh and to add I’m a nurse so I’m on my feet all day
Hi Doc! I got a question on how to treat my tendon achilles. Every day when i wake up and try to walk it hurts mostly on my left achilles tendon.
Get an exam and get a diagnosis first
I broke my fibula and am transitioning from a boot soon and wondering what ankle brace you would recommend
Can you compare this to the Better guard ankle brace?
Good day doc..what ankle support you suggest best for haglunds deformity?
Not really a question of support more of offloading
Hi Zach, wondering what would be the way to go for me? I haven't injured my ankles playing basketball yet but I'm interested in getting braces for prevention purposes, and all my shoes fit for performance so I don't think I can get anything too bulky.
Compression socks and or leggings are your best bet. If you haven't had an injury. You want full proprioception to avoid the injury.
I’d talk to a physician or therapist first- your best defense is good training
i use the shock doctor and really like them not bulky
I’ve had them on in the v4 and did fine w them
Hey Doc. I use 11 but I have skinny legs, would you recommend M or L size?
Which one would be good for Achilles Injuries?
are there any recommendations for midfoot sprain, specifically for post lisfranc surgery?
Really depends on how stiff you are, pain level , deformity , etc. I’ve done everything from flexible orthotics to completely stiff high braces
Should i wear ankle sleeves if i never had any ankle injuries?
What’s your thoughts on Aryse ankle brace?
Hi, do you know Malleo Dynastab Boa by Thuasne stabilising ankle brace? is it better or worse than Zamst A1? And I have seen that there are older and newer Zamst A1 models. Are there any difference in between them?
I really would like to see what do you thinking about the adidas speed wrap ankle braces, those were one of the best ankle braces. They had the best balance between protection and playability (enough thin with strong TPU panels )
Never heard of them tbh
Sorry, I can not see my previous messages.
Derrick Rose wore these ankle braces back than.
Do ankle braces also support low foot arch?
I’m 45 now
You’ve probably got arthritis, in which case you shouldn’t be playing any more to to help slow down it’s progression otherwise you’ll be pretty disabled by 50-60
What are the names of this ankle support?
So I dislocated my ankle along with 4 complete ligaments tears as well. I understand I should get the A2DX for my right foot. Should I match braces on both ankles or just maybe get the A1 for my other ankle.
I’d talk to your doctor I don’t know if anything’s wrong with that ankle or it it’s been previously injured
I’m a 6ft almost 6’1 athletic and pretty bouncy guard (can dunk here and there when the ankle feels good and get good amount of boards) and had injury to my atfl. I’ve been looking to get a good brace but not sure what would fit my needs. Any suggestions?
Wich is better for trail running?
What about the body prox?
What if I need a Left ankle brace?
How tight do you have to wear the a2dx ?
Zach curious what your recommendations are for best ankle brace for someone who shattered there talus calcaneus and fibula and has terrible arthritis in subtalar joint. This is a 27 yr old male strong athletic build? Thanks!
Also thank you for the indepth review videos I have been devouring them getting back into court sports!
That’s probably going to be custom if I had to guess and there’s going to be some guided trial and error with your doctor on what’s best
You're looking really trim. All these shoe reviews doing their job. Well done
Haha thank you I’m tryin
I had knee surgery and am non-weight bearing on my right leg. After four weeks on the crutches, my left ankle is hurting. Would an ankle brace be useful?
Thats a question for your surgeon who can evaluate you in person
I have over pronation on my right ankle
Hey Doc, I had ankle ligament surgery 18 months ago. Going to start playing soccer again. Do I still need a brace and if so what level would you opt for. Don't want to over-do if it causes more problems but won't mind if its just extra protection.
Do you have any pain now
@@tanaysarkar2474 no pain but I just wear a brace in case. Might be more a mental thing.
@@davidg7987 ok
Hey Doc, so I had a Grade 2 (near Grade 3, it was hanging on by a thread) AITFL tear in my right foot, and am nearing my return to sport after nearly 3 months with a walking boot. I did not get the surgery, and the most recent MRI shows very good healing of the ligament. Would the Zamst A2-DX be a good choice? Or should I just tape every time? Also, for how long should I play basketball with an ankle brace? Because I heard that I should not wear it for too long for fear of the ankle learning to rely on it and becoming weak. Thanks in advance!
I would say get the A2 for sure
Is it better to have tight shoes with just enough space for thick socks or slightly loose shoes with a little bit of space in your toebox. (For basketball as a defender and rebounder)
ruclips.net/video/sqn8k3tVl6c/видео.html
Would any of these help while healing posterior tibial tendonitis?
IMO the A1 is best but still talk to your doctor to see what stage you’re in and what else you need to do
is it a good idea to buy a ankle brace if you hadnt had a injury to prevent injurys ever ?
Strength and propioceptive exercises are likely a better option.
@@FootDoctorZach super helpful, thanks Zach!! Love your work and shoe reviews.
I personally never wanted to wear a brace and just strengthen my ankles instead but it hasn't been all to successful for me so I might also try out one of these braces now
Hey man I was wondering what you think the best basketball socks for basketball are ?
I’m partial to thorlo
My 13 yo daugther recently landed on someone's foot while playing basketball and got level 3 inversion ankle spain.
She rested for 5 weeks and got rehab.
After felt better, she started training again using A1 short but it couldnt give protection in high intens drilling.
She feels pain when running in high speed and changing direction, also when jumping and landed on her weak foot
Do you think i should buy her A2 dx instead ?
Grade 3 ankle sprain with 5 weeks. Seems like the ankle didn't heal enough yet. A1 will be good
I have sprained my right ankle minimum of 10 times, and I have a lace up brace. But now I just sprained my left ankle for the first time. Should I get 2 if the zamst A2?
Is it bad to have braces on both ankles?
A lot of people wear them on both sides but best to also check with your local doc to see what is going on with your ankles
Thank u
I would say these are probably the easiest to get into a cleat- the A2-DX is the strongest - most of the players that have a complete tear go with the A2-DX over the A1
@@FootDoctorZach thanks Doc for the response 👍
@@FootDoctorZach is it recommend to wear it for right foot only or is it best to wear both?
