You being a lawyer would get a kick out of the real story behind the lyrics in this song. It's from a case in Arizona where a prosecutor known for seeking maximum sentences in drug cases gets busted for felony level distribution of cannabis.

That's such a cool observation. I'm gonna look at other bands I grew up listening to and that are still creating, and see if it can be applied to others
I started listening to TOOL before TOOL was cool and I am still digesting ... burping each song up into my mouth and savouring again ... 30 years later.
I wish I had discovered TOOL 20 years ago! Now, being old, I have to listen to one or two at a time, because the intensity is just OVERWHELMING for me…..…but in a really wonderful way! You’re young and can handle the energy. I’m jealous!
I found them in 96. I'm almost OG. Lol. I've seen them live 3 times, soon to be 4. By far my absolute favorite band. I've only grown to appreciate them more and in new ways.
1992 almost 30 years and 7 shows, saw them in Birmingham, the night they announced the release date for Fear Inoculum. I first heard them in the radio studio of WVFS, The college radio station for Florida State. My girlfriend at the time was a DJ there and was letting me go through a bunch of demos they had received. I picked up one CD and said hey this looks interesting, lol, and she played it. I was hooked. When we got through listening to it I looked at her and said I think they're going to be revolutionary. I believe I was pretty close in my assessment. 😎
"The Grudge" will blow you away harder than any other Tool/Maynard song you have ever experienced. An absolute beast of a masterpiece. Check it out. 28 second scream in it.
Ticks and leeches is an absolute BANGER too! It's basically screamin' the whole song and the drums on it are just so good! When I first listened to it I didn't like screaming in music a whole lot but it just blew me away!
bit of a spoiler there matt, though eye'd agree that it's probably their best tune. probably because it was my introduction to Tool while still their newest release - Aenima is the best album imho and the grudge their stand out masterpiece (one among many tbf).
This is one of the best for sure. I don’t know how much of the Tool discography you’ve dove into but I would definitely suggest Right in Two. It’s my personal favorite. If you can find the fan made music video along with it, then it’s an even better experience.
Super cool animation for sure .. except they do chop the song a bit to fit the short film so it's probably best to hear the original song first then watch that particular video.
Another great YESSSS. One of the best drummers in the business. The double drumming and double foot peddling is amazing. Cant keep up watching. Can always distinguish a TOOL song. Magic ❤
So I have to say you are clearly one of the most thoughtful, in-depth reviewers, especially for TOOL I have seen yet! So many people watch and listen and are amazed and effected only to miss out out on the multi-layered brilliance that is this band. Polyrhythms and how & why they use them, Maynard's lyrics, his voice as an instrument, their unmatched use of build and release...and so on. Clearly, every fan has their favorites but in no particular order I believe most TOOL fans would highly recommend JAMBI, 46 &2, Vicarious, Sober Live (Pro Shot) Remastered (Watching the video is a must!), Ænema, & Stinkfist. Clearly there are many more but these are a must new Tool fan you are obviously becoming! Your in-depth style and clear appreciation of the level of talent of TOOL really make me want to watch ANYTHING you review by them! Seriously, well done!
40 plus year rock drummer here and i have to say i just love Tool, such a unique style and sound and these guys take it to a A Whole Nother Level ! Great reaction and best of luck man .

This whole album is an experience; my favorite tool album and one my all-time favorites... also the pot is def one of my favorites! Such a tasty bassline
Danny puts on a smiling face. There is reason for his drum setup and his timing. Nothing he does is coincidence. He is playing the way he does for a reason.
Danny Carey, drum cam "Pneuma" by Vic Firth drum sticks. I was at the show in Boston because I work for VF at the corporate headquarters. Got to meet Danny before the show. Our suite was in a great spot. I'm also lucky because I've seen some of the cut shots from the unseen footage.
As soon as I saw you reacted to "Schism", I was hoping there would be one for "The Pot". One of my favorite videos of yours so far, and an incredible song. Tool never fails to blow my mind.
Dude you've put it off long enough. You, as a reaction channel, are at least 2 years behind ervrybody else when it comes to Tool my man! You've already reacted to "Wings I&II" and "The Pot". Stay this course and do "Vicarious" then (my personal fave) "JAMBI" to hit you in the GUT with masterful rythems and touch your 'feels' with passionate vocals and relatable lyrics. It's just an incredible album! So incredible in fact, that the band didn't make another record for 13 tiddy-fuckin' years. We'll be here to guide you on your Tool experience Alex. Maybe consider bringing Mom and/or the wifey along for some or all of the ride. It's gonna be amazing!
I don't care I'm 52 years old. I just love this guy, he brings me right back to the kind of people I love. Alex is adorable and I love his reactions. Keep up the good work dear.
They don't call Danny " The Octopus " for nuthin!! The drum cam footage by Vic Furth is just unreal. He (Danny) makes it look sooooo effortless. Awesome Sauced reaction fam!!
Terrific song and reaction. Your refs to Tool’s use of odd time signatures is spot on. They draw you in but keep you slightly off balance. That and sudden transitions (like Rush or other prog bands but harder) build to a big, seductive tilt of perspective. Brilliant.
Tool army here!! Thank you thank you Alex for finally getting into tool great reaction by the way probably the best breakdown I've seen very well done very intelligent
That was an incredible and well articulated analysis ! Bravo! Your effort is very much appreciated by the TOOL Army. (I’m sure). Thank you for elaborating the layers of your admiration. Intelligence, musical virtuosity, enlightenment. TOOL
Dude im so shocked you havent heard nearly every Tool song yet.. There only the best band for the last 30 years lol.. Get on the Tool train.. Every station is an experience 👍
Had to scroll down 3 years of videos to find the very first Slipknot reaction, to see my comment suggesting TOOL, when there was about 200 subscribers to the channel. It was only inevitable.
Alex starting with “The Pot” is great. Maynard Keenan said it best “If you’re introducing a friend to Tool, don’t start with the 27- minute song, start with The Pot.”
Dude, I have been watching you for years, and this reaction is by far one of the realest (real word?) Reaction I've ever seen. This was as good a reaction as to how good the song is. Thank you for that haha
This is the most entertaining & informative reaction I’ve seen to this enigmatic song. Thanks for digging into the lyrics. Makes the song all the more entertaining it’s composed of common phrases that Maynard weaves together. Two that don’t get noticed are “a pot to piss in”. Which is why Maynard refers to pissing on pots. Another dimension of “high” is being on your “high horse” when you judge others. Hence “you must have been HIGH”.
My favorite theory about the song is the Jimmy Page One. Led Zeppelin made a name for themselves and became huge by lifting and using prior established music, in most cases, without giving credit. They were in court over it quite a bit in the 90s when these older blues artists and family's caught onto them. A hometown legend of mine named Willie Dixon, being one artist who went to court against them, did somewhat win. Having his name added as a writing credit. I think the Kangaroo Court mentioned has a lot to do with how they stole all these songs. and easily got away with it. Muddy Waters is something mentioned in the Pot and is the name of the blues artist that originally recorded you need love, that became whole Lotta Love. They also took from earlier artists such as Robert Johnson, who died in the 30s. His song traveling riverside blues contains the lyrics: "Now you can squeeze my lemon till the juice run down my (Till the juice run down my leg, baby, you know what I'm talkin' 'bout)" and the led Zeppelin song the lemon song contained "Squeeze me, baby, ’til the juice runs down my leg Squeeze me, baby, ’til the juice runs down my leg The way you squeeze my lemon I’m gonna fall right out of bed." And all of this and Jimmy page led Zeppelin are notorious for not allowing anyone to use or borrow their music. It is pretty rare for an artist to be given permission to use a led Zeppelin song as a cover or for anyone to license the use of Led Zeppelin's music. So, the hypocrisy part is that they made it huge by using other artists' music, and now they are extremely successful; they won't let others do the same.
@Graeme Roberts yes, and it's on a non official release. As Salival being a b-side outtakes and live disc. Just because they did in the past cover them doesn't mean it isn't true. Maybe their dealings with Jimmy page then soured their thoughts on the group. The pot did come out 6 years later.
What's funny is that most of the song is in regular 4/4 time, with the middle section being 3/4 time, which itself is fairly common. What makes it sound goofy is that it's got a ton of syncopation
Amazing reaction brotha!! Special Request: STAIND “something to remind you” LIVE! This mans ability to convey emotions through his voice and music is unparalleled. I think everyone at some degree has or can relate to this song. He was also dear friends with Chris Cornell Audio Slave who passed away and also Chester Bennington from Linkin Park who unfortunately took his life shortly after Chris passed. If you could please react to it it’s unbelievably touching. Really hits home for all of us. Blessings from Texas
I can't believe you hadn't reacted to this song before. My absolute favorite song by Tool! But I can still, to this day, sit and listen through t0,000 days from beginning to end...over and over. Love your reactions, Alex. :)
The pot is one of their most groovy straight forward songs. It’s fantastic for what it is but you should look forward to diving in to their more complex stuff. ❤️
Your analogies are mesmerizing, lyrical and instrumental alike. Regarding the lyrics “don’t be casting your stones around” could relate to a time when people were stoned to death by the Sanhedrin, intertwining corrupt governmental bodies with religious connotations.
I just dont know how many times I can tell u how much I luv u?! So lemme juss say I ........idk?? Yr good at this. U were BORN for this in fact. See ya on the nxt 1
Who remembers buying the album, the actual album in 2006? Alex this album is one of their best, and it sounds just like this live - all the times I’ve seen & heard it 🙌❤️
Danny: “hey, I made this noise”
Justin: “hey, I made this noise”
Adam: “hey, I made this noise”
Maynard: “I can sing to that”
Result: masterpiece
'bout right.
Truth.
You being a lawyer would get a kick out of the real story behind the lyrics in this song. It's from a case in Arizona where a prosecutor known for seeking maximum sentences in drug cases gets busted for felony level distribution of cannabis.

Nah. That video is boring. Danny is not the God of drumming... stop pandering.
@@xOhrwurm Yeah. He isn't. But the video is great.
There is in fact a drum cam of Danny. Check out their live performance of Pneuma. You will be in awe
Wish I could like this comment more than once, that drum cam elevated my already high respect for Tool in general and Danny specifically.
As a general trend, the earlier the Tool, the rawer, angrier, and overall length of songs a bit shorter.

Opiate - Jerk Off (live)
Undertow - Undertow
Aenema - Third-eye
Lateralus - Lateralus
10,000 Days - Rosetta Stoned
Fear Inoculum - 7empest
Good luck on your journey. Just know it will take several lifetimes to fully digest the music.

I was a teenager when Tool made the first album, and i feel i grew up with them - together.
