I can't believe you talked through one of the most technical drum parts in metal history. Much love all the same
Hahahah!!!! Truth
He almost did it on purpose! Never fk with Danny Carey's drums!!!!!
Honestly it's the shitty "lyric" video's fault. Literally everyone gets distracted by the background theory and forget to listen to the song.
He’s just ignorant to greatness. Bless his heart.
BRO THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYING, you mean not even ONE second of that got this dude’s attention?? 😂😂
“i wonder if that’s intentional” - clearly a Tool novice
Did anyone else get annoyed when he didn't even acknowledge Danny's drum solo
The entire comment section is about the ignorance of OP.
Although the lyrics are interesting... In my opinion Tool is best appreciated on a first (and second) listen with good headphones and your eyes closed. You missed the drum solo!!!
when i was one of 'those' kids i would take a tab of LSD watch fear and loathing in las vegas and right on the peek put on tool close my eyes and trip out to the vibrations.
I think it's important to know what the song is about. However, I hate this video it forces one person's interpretation upon you. (as another commenter pointed out.) Once you get it, then you can listen to it with no lyrics. But without the meaning, it's not going to hit you so hard.
React to "Vicarious" by Tool. The official video. I'd also suggest "Parabola" and "Schism".
He needs to do a reaction of the entire Lateralus album.
He needs to do a reaction of the entire Lateralus album.
React to Tool.... that is all
or check out John Kew's drum cover (95-97% accurate) when ure done and you find urself, HOW THE HELL! It really is mind-blowing.
I wouldn’t react to any tool music videos for someone just getting into tool, they take too much away from the music. Lyric videos are the way to go. With that said, Vicarious and Schism are great songs to do. If you suggest Parabola, it has to be paired with Parabol just preceding it
Listening to Tool through their career can seriously be a life-changing experience. The albums Aenima and Lateralus, especially, need to be listened to from start to finish with good headphones in a dark room. The layering and lows and peaks of the vocals are totally intentional - sometimes he sings almost like it is meant to be subliminal and not completely heard. Tool is on another level, period. It's a cerebral, emotional, spiritual, and primal experience. I also think reading all that garbage while the song is playing is totally distracting and detracting from he music that should be sweeping you away. It was a disservice to use that as the first listen - but no way you could have known that. People should listen to the music before you try to dive into all this analysis. It doesn't work as a reading assignment, it needs to be felt.
So true
Aenemia for sure!!!!
You hit the nail on the head with that comment bro.
JAGodard I might voice a disagreement. It is useful to have that kind of information injected into a video for those who will not take the effort to look things up for themselves afterwards. Many people will express confusion, and then write off the experience as an unmemorable one, possibly leading to never really discovering the skill of the artists. That would be unfortunate, and if this causes some people to take a second listen, then it has accomplished its goal. And ultimately, to merely listen, one need only close their eyes.
Absolutely and 100% true...
Got to watch the official video to this Alex, awesome and really adds to the enjoyment for me.
I recommend the version by the kids of the O’keefe music academy. He has kids learning and playing metal and hard rock and it’s really great stuff. Their RUclips channel is a good watch (plus you can see all the instruments used in this song)
My husband and I put that video on regularly. Those kids rock! Love seeing kids playing and appreciating the "oldies". 😄
1000% agree! They killed it!! 😁👍
TOOL THE POT
Sorry but "The Pot" is the most oveplayed and worst tool song.( Don't get me wrong it's a really good song, just not compared to any of the others)
Did you know that song came out 12 years ago an they say soapbox house of cards an glass which both where created by soapbox an it's crazy bc what the show an movie is anout
@@jonathanpaquette7389 oh you’re so edgy bro
@@MikeHoncho610 nice one dude you replied to a comment from 2 years ago. The Pot is still the worst and most overplayed tool song
@@jonathanpaquette7389 oh yeah sorry man I forgot to turn on post notifications for your account two years back.
My favorite Tool song. I can't get enough of that kick ass Bass line...✌
Their basslines are so good
They kinda lose me on the hook in this one it doesn't feel to fit the rest of the song I feel like they kinda shoehorned it in. Plus they rarely play it live I feel the band feels the same way about the song the rest of it is perfect but that fucking chorus isn't fit for the song
_Me and my cousin_ sometimes hook up the *guitar and bass* and jam out some *tool* songs. watching my cousin play the bass rifts sometimes, I never realized how fast the bass player is going. -legendary-
I am so glad you picked this video. It explains the song so well. And of course the song is amazing!
So weird i just saw this version for the 1st time last week and I dig this tune hugely. Good job Alex!
Oof you missed the SICK drum solo my dude! Danny Carey POPS OFF. Honestly one of the best parts of the song.
Agreed. A shame those stupid explanation texts were on the video
Yeah...definitely listen to this song without all the visual distractions.
same... watching that lyric video of the actual track was _WAYYY_ worse than watching the kids-cover version, for example. at least the music would be appreciated
Danny is a drumming effing GOD!!!!!!!
I wished he would just listen to the damn song lol
I do hope you'll listen to this song again on your own time. Let yourself absorb it all with no distractions. I'm glad you were able to understand and appreciate it lyrically on your first listen but you did read over the climactic bridge and drum breakdown and I would love for you to fully enjoy it on your own. Strongly looking forward to some more Tool, keep up the great work my man! :) Also, listen to The Grudge, best song in the world xD
Totally agree. I like Mr Hefner but he has let me down with this reaction.
The Grudge is the BEST!
While your comment was a bit pretentious, I do agree that he focus too much on the video (especially when it's made by a 3rd person) and the lyrics when reacting to SONGS. For me, when I listen to a song for the first time, they could just as well be reading random words from a dictionary. I treat the singing mostly like an instrument. What I would have like to hear him react to more, was the musical parts, and the rhythm. The song is mostly in 4/4, though, so it's not really complex. But it does have some sections of 7/8 in between.
@@MetalGamer666 Idk how you read that as pretentious but whatever.
You manages to pick probably the best lyric video for this song. Excellent. Keep it up, Alex!!
Glad to have you in the TOOL army. Great content man. Subbed.
Tool - Parabol & Parabola
YES! My 2 (or 1 really) absolute favorite Tool songs!!!
Dude definitely a top 3
@@MakimasGoodBoy I think I must disagree but I would be challenged to make the list. This song is pretty f-ing high though.
This! This song right here. Please. 💜
Avram42 everyone has their own opinion, but they’re in my top 3 because it helped me through some deep depression. What’s your top 3?
My man, you have hit the realm of Maynard James Keenan, the legend. He's also the vocalist for A Perfect Circle and puscifer.
Every song of Maynard has meaning. Tool is the metaphysical, APC the emotional, and puscifer the experimental.
The more you check out, the more you'll fall in love with his music.
Orestes, 3 libras are good starters for APC and for Puscifer; remedy and horizons, are a good place to start your journey into them. And with tool, literally anything.
Love the channel man.
My dude you forgot to mention indigo children but puscifer its the song that got me to fall in love with them besides maynard's amazing voice
@@damianpaterno7900 Good call, felt like those were easy intros into them though, not for him necessarily to react to, though it would be nice.
Tool is the brain, APC is the heart and Puscifer is the dick.
@@keith8956 solid 👌🏻
Don't forget Hollow from APC my man!
such a dope song. ‘twas tightttt seeing them perform this live.
Tool!!! Dude. I keep reliving the 90's on your reactions... AND I LOVE IT!!!
Opiate-tool
No Leaf Clover-metallica from s&m concert
Try out Vicarious by Tool
love that song....... good shout my man..
yes!
Vin and Sori haven't reacted to Vicarious even tho they already went through almost 3 TOOL albums
get ahead of them Alex haha :D
one of their best!
lyric video, of course.
Yeah personally i think its their best song
Hey Alex now you are going deeper n this kind of music and its awesome we love tool keep it going ( i
personaly love slipknot too) :D
We're fam Bruh!! Keep up the good work and as always....
Have a dope ass day!!
🤘👍👍👍👍🤘
I'm really sad that you watched that particular video is because the single interpretation that is being pushed is forced on you to be read during some of the most amazing instrumental parts. You really need to just *listen* to the track without those annotations between vocal sections, the composition and musicality in the parts you were busy reading during are brilliant!
Fucking 1000%. I hate when people react to this video. They always miss the music
Word. Tool is best listened to with no visuals.
That and this Jungian bs is not accepted at all in the field of psychology because Jung was never able to provide any evidence.
@@TheRealAb216 Jung is definitely accepted in the field of Psychology. Maybe provide evidence for your own statements first.
I was just about to comment exactly the same message til I read this. This video has to be removed for reactors.
HEFNERD PACK🤘🤘. This is my favorite tool song. To me it represents change. Digging deep down inside, identifying character flaws and changing what you dont like about yourself.
Seeing them in may!!! Super stoked
One of the coolest drum fills EVER and you are focusing and reading the text out loud, haha :D
Hey bruh you definitely need to check out Tool - Right in Too super awesome.
2
Right and "Too" lmao
@Billy Fitzgerald rude to assume, and who cares, Tool certainly doesn't, they prefer you make your own meaning to the songs anyways
I would sound very pretentious but Tool has been described as the "Thinking man's metal" I think that was what you are referring to when you say you can still head bang to the song but the song itself is deep and heavy
I've heard people say that "Tool is the Pink Floyd of our generation" when they were at the height of their career.
Years ago when i was in London, i was in a mega music store and i looked at the metal section. Tool wasnt there, but some wonderful store guy had made a unique section just under the metal section and it was 'Thinkings Man Metal' TOOL was the only stuff there!
Getting distracted by the extra info over the awesome instrumental music is quite annoying....
Yeah that was a shame. Anything not lyrics is just some dude typing
It actually made me a little angry when he was reading aloud during it. Even though I've heard it myself probably a thousand times. It's still my favorite part of any Tool song. I lose my mind when I see him do it live.
Yeah, especially during Danny's amazing solo. I thought he would be like oh my god those drums! But he was just reading some pointless text through the entire instrumental section:(
@Nerdy old white Guy Yes it's a cool touch but still it is distracting from the amazing instrumentals like Dannys mind-blowing solo
Yes. In my opinion, the best way to experience a new song is always to just focus on the music and the impression. For me, this process can take multiple passes. Only than i go and check out the lyrics for following listening passes, and eventually some background information.
I love how you got into the meaning of this song. This version kind of takes you out of the song though because it's very interesting reading. I love it. You should listen to it one more time for just the song. This is one of those songs that that comes on when I'm driving and I crank it and stay with it.
Instead of reading some random text, you should pay more attention to the music. You completely missed the part with one of the best drum parts in history ...
He fucked up with this reaction big time
He still did good, but sometimes people do worry a little too much about the meaning/lyrics rather than just enjoying the music, he should give it another listen on his own. Most Tool songs tsk a couple listens before you can really appreciate it
The fucking killer drum beat shadowed the random text
@@brianchiaro1191 not to the dude who did the reaction.. He totally missed the best drum solo if you don't count "Push it" drum solo.
On a similar note I introduced someone to Brit Marling's Another Earth. He kept saying how sexy she was. I'm like this movie is really deep and the point is she wrote it and Sound of my Voice at the same time! Both went to Sundance and became huge. As an unknown writer and actress. Now she has the OA on Netflix and Babylon on TV and stars in and writes both. She's a goddamn genius artist, yes she's cute, but who cares? People get hung up on dumb shit and miss the point.
Faith no more - Epic
Good stuff
When the bulbs burn out by fit for an autopsy. Absolutely amazing song with and absolutely amazing message. I’m so confident you’d enjoy both the song and the message!
I'm happy to see you reacting to such great songs. Tool is really worth exploring. One of the most important bands of the 90.
Take a look at the okeefe music foundation videos, those kids have and talent
this! my favorite version.
YES!!!!
That drummer kid was sick
How about the "Number of the Beast" Cover? Insanity.
This is a must. Just love the vocals.
Tool used the Fibonacci sequence of numbers to create the song Lateralus, pretty sweet, just saying
Great reaction Alex. I love Tool. You are busy beginning to scratch the surface and at the end I could see their magic working on you. There is so much about Tool. From their chord progressions to the way danny has his drums set up to stories about their studio. Dig deeper and you will find what we all know. They have such power in their art. Spiritually, physically, mentally, and subconsciously. It all exists within Tool.
One other thing, I really think you should do a reaction to Unearth-The Great Dividers or Zombie Autopilot. Both solid metalcore from early to mid 2000's.
Absolutely. U a smart dude. RESPECT.
Devin Townsend- "Genesis" new song just came out today off his new album Empath
It's completely brilliant. The amount of time and emotion that had to have went into the creation of the song is mind boggling. I'm so excited to hear the rest of the album!
Tool being my favorite band of all time this made me happy
How dare they put shit to read over Daney Careys drum solo!!!!
That's what i said. It's not his fault, it's the idiot that made the video. I'm a big tool fan but i hate tool fans lol. They act like if you don't dissect every little lyric you are a dumbshit. It's like they miss the musical part of tool. Maynard is an intelligent and unique dude but he is no more unique tgan the next guy that is unique. Yet tool fans think just because they listen to tool they are the most intelligent beings on the planet. I absolutely love tool but most of their songs are pretty straight forward with their meanings and i don't feel like i have to dissect every little bit of them. I just realized i completely went off topic lol.
Thank you for giving Tool a serious listen. Great video. We smile more for more Tool reactions.
Insomnium - While We Sleep
It's a must
Yes please!!!
lyrics video
There are better songs by Insomnium, though. Like: Winter's Gate, part 3.
@@MetalGamer666 The whole of Winters Gate is brilliant. There is "Through The Shadows", "Weather The Storm" but "While We Sleep" is my favourite
What I think about this group in general?
Easy.
Outstanding musicians, each one in his own respect and an otherworldly singer/songwriter.
Tool is one of my favorite bands ever.
This is my favorite Tool song. Glad you looked into it and enjoyed the music and the symbolism.
About damn time!!
This is my favorite tool song
Just listen to the timing of this song. Its so hard to cover them.
Alex goin on the Tool spiral???
Damn, gotta watch!
Please react to Kids Cover Of Tool’s 46 & 2, O’Keefe Foundation and Kids Cover Of Tool’s Sober, O’Keefe Foundation.
Also their cover of Burn by the Cure
Yes!! Those kids KILL 46-2 and Sober.
I love their cover of Ozzy’s No More Tears too!
I've always loved this song 🤘😁
I have watched dozens and dozens of youtubers doing a Tool reaction video and it is as enjoyable as hearing new Tool music. Watching the revelation as the you learn about Tool and the bands talents is very enjoyable. New Tool comes out around late April till late May. Hope to see you do more Tool reaction vids. Have you done Parabol (Parabola) from Tool?
Finally back to Tool. Check out Lateralus by Tool next!
All time fuckin song, swing on the spiral!
I’m a simple man, I see a Tool reaction and I like it before even watching.
My favorite Tool song. i also really like the cover that the O'Keefe Music Foundation kids did. That little girl rocked it.
It's all good Alex. I heard it when I was 12. Still love it.
Another bump for Checking out the O'keefe foundation cover of this song. Those kids are super talented
We're a community; a family of Hefnerds
Business Cat I love that!
you NAILD IT
@@AlexHefner Here's what I believe he is referring to as his shadow.. or mans shadow:
The "Shadow" is understanding man's capacity for evil. Once humanity as a whole can understand its own capacity for evil.. then we can deal with it as a species and evolve into a fully conscious state of awareness which facilitates an eternal love and compassion for all life. In other words.. You can only comprehend true light when you are completely surrounded by darkness. 44 - 2 is a broken state of consciousness which is allowing the suppression of our minds eye and a collective ignorance which is very useful for those who control our society from the "Shadows" It's time for us to evolve and become 46 - 2 ! It's not a generational evolution.. It's just a heightened state of awareness which is fully accessible to all, once we let go of everything we think we know and start asking the right questions. Allowing us to shed our social programming and start to see the illusions of the world we think we live in. No longer dualistic in nature' we may find peace with ourselves and all living things.
Does that mean that Alex is a scruffy Hefherder?
I like, "a herd, of Hefnerds". 😅
Maynard has SUCH a unique pure voice !! EXCELLENT !!
SO NICE ALEX, MORE TOOL PLEASE :)
React to Judith by A Perfect Circle, Maynard's other band, it's a personal song about Maynard's mom, I think you will like it!
10,000 days was put towards his mom's death
Dude if he likes thought provoking material, he really needs to listen to "So long, and thanks for all the fish"!
Thanks for all the fish sucks
That whole eat the elephant album sucks
Tool is the best band Maynard has been in
Blood eagle- periphery’s new song or anything off dream theatres new album
I love when people comment about his vocals. I never gave his vocals a second thought because the songs were so awesome. Then came the vocal coaches reacting and analyzing Maynard's vocals, and my mind was blown at his unique vocal talent. I'd suggest reacting to those videos, but it might make your vids twice as long.
I love this song! I love the chorus! I have to agree with your reaction Alex.
Congrats on your engagement.................... :-)
Carl Jung, "Man and His Symbols.." explains everything.. the layers to the inner self.. the shadow is one of those layers...
P.O.D. - Youth of the Nation
DanielAntonsen94 an oldie I forgot about but, a good one.
I`m just here waiting new Nightwish reaction video!!😍
My favorite band. One of my favorite songs....just found ya and subbed.
Also.. look at the kid version of this song it's awesome too
Suggestion. Do a triple Maynard video. He leads the bands "Tool", "A Perfect Circle" and "Puscifer". All 3 have different lineups and differing sounds but all are amazing.
I can't understand how only 10% of viewers like the video. Those LIKES are what keeps these vids coming. Cmon people, Hefnerds, unite and support the man!
Just too lazy
Was watching The Rock Nation earlier tool's new album comes out in mid May to July so I new Tool album after 10 years cannot wait
Keep listening to this song. .... it will keep growing and growing on you!!
3:45 Tool's always had one and only one drummer, Danny Carey. Any percussion sounds you hear on this song are by ONE MAN. And yes, he CAN play it live!
One man my ass, he's half man half octopus.
@@larrygoodsell9273nah he already has the 46 and 2 chromosomes
Do right in two next pleeeeeeeaaasssee
This is my number 1 favorite Tool song. It's so deep and crazy and I wish I could understand it more, but musically it is my absolute favorite.
That was indeed a very intellectual topic for a song, that made it very interesting and something to think about!
And it shows the kind of art, that TOOL is capable of!! Very well done and a interesting reaction as well! Good choice, Alex!
Jungian Psychology is a really fascinating topic. It's basically a theory about the development and structure of personality
@Tim Hutchinson, admit it, you too cringed when #Alex mispronounced Dr. {YUNG's} name, right? 😉 I too prefer the teachings of Dr. Jung to Dr. Freud, albeit they both were great contributors to the Field. I'm also a tad concerned that #Alex is marrying a nurse & gets squeamish about things like "picking scabs"??? Okay, I'm just being bitchy now! Peace!
H by tool is amazing too
Rosetta Stoned is my personal favourite Tool song along with lost keys of course it's just such a wild adventure in music form.
intellectual lyricists combined with incredibly talented musicians create thought provoking and spiritual moving moments for all. to those who can " hear" and "see" will be moved through the "shadow"
You should check out the O'Keefe Music Foundation. They're a publicly funded music school and they make videos of the kids doing covers of rock songs (among other genres). Their most well known video is their cover of "46 & 2", and they've done Sober by Tool also.
React to "H" by Tool
just bought every album the other day love tool
One of my favs
Just enjoy it and don't worry too much about trying to dig things out of the lyrics that may or may not be there.
Dude @Alex Hefner you need to react to more Tool bro its really good music. A new album supposedly right around the corner so brush up on that tool brah. Been watching since you started because you keep the great content coming. Have a dope ass day!
Still gives me the chills
Finally! A reaction worth seeing, it's been awhile! A alphabet long to be precise.
Check out O'Keefe Music Foundation. They have some awesome takes on a few Tool songs. I recommend making a video where you check out their versions of "The Pot", but definitely just check it out. Great video btw, keep it coming! (More Tool!)
You gotta do more Tool dude, especially the meanings, you have no idea what your getting into.
Oh boy. Alex bout to go on a trip of enlightenment.
one of my favorite tool songs of all time definitely top 5 easily
What man, you missed a good drum solo while reading the lyrics 😒
Please look for the music as whole first before digging into lyrics, that's like a golden rule for rock and metal.
I thought the same thing. It's painful to watch. If he does the same thing with Lateralus, there is that Fibonacci video that will have him reading the whole damn time. "I want you to shut your eyes and go there..."
Gotta stop reading the lyrics on first listen in my opinion. React to the feel of the song and give us your thoughts right after listening. Then what I would love to see is it cut to you after a second listen where you did read the lyrics, and to finish off with your final thoughts after knowing the true meaning.
Also one of my favorite bass riffs of all time.
Love to see you do Stinkfist and 4 Degrees.
Want to really watch something amazing look up "Kids cover 46 & 2 by tool." middle school kids doing this song and they are amazing. Great video as always Alex.
