Is this the first TooL song you reacted to ? If not, what was the first?
@@joewallower7079look back at his playlists 😉
Polo you're reactions are great!
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Tool Army....
We got him.
I was thinking the same thing
Yep he is done for.
No turning back
Hook, line, and sinker!
I'm a month late but I made it!
One Guitar, One Bass, One drummer and vocals. That's it. So much sound from 4 guys
Are you a fan of Rush?
@@fennecfanatic5566 I get that. if 4 is good, 3 are better. 😏
@Kevin Lockwood No way... Look, I love Rush as much as the next guy - La Villa Strangiato is one of the greatest tracks ever recorded.
But Tool is light-years beyond Rush. Plain and simple.
@@Drummr88thats so true justin chancellor alone is leagues beyond geddy lee lol
4 God tier musicians..lol
Sixteen plus years after its release, this song still gets me pumped. IT CANNOT BE PLAYED LOUD ENOUGH.
17 now
I remember waiting forever for this, that blows my mind
I've heard this song at least 10,000 times and I love it more each time. It is perfection! A masterpiece, I dare say.
I gotta agree. One of the greatest pieces ever made musically I dare say.
One of the few times where one of the more "radio friendly" songs a band writes is *actually* one of their best songs, somehow.
Musicians know. This is a few levels up from great.
10000 times is a great way to reference the album. 😂
Have yet to play this song when we are going around the room(I'm old) and not seen the bass sway. The eyes bulge. And have seen them 5 times and counting. Even saw them do Merkaba for the first time in 13 years.
Don’t worry about the pauses. We Tool fans know what’s coming, and know that you will pretty much always be blown away the more a Tool song goes on. It’s inevitable. Just enjoy it. The good thing is, you back it up enough so you don’t miss transitions and stuff. So don’t worry about the pauses. Keep going on Tool. If I had a suggestion for a tool song, I’d say The Grudge….simply for Danny’s drumming at the end…and one of the longest screams you’ll hear by Maynard.
My CRAS brother in the comments!! Great to see you here bro. Hope all is well with you. Agree with your comment, 100%.
@@sttekcirs yoooo!! My fellow CRAShole! Hell yeah man! I love these reaction videos. It’s so awesome to see peoples minds blown by something we’ve been listening to for…decades? Lol. All is well in my world man…just globetrotting around the world. Hope all is well with you too my brother!!
You got that right
This is hilarious because usually when somebody says they are a fan of Tool, everybody just rolls their eyes. But, as a lifelong Tool listener, seeing somebody process the intricacy of the music and discovering joy and beauty in the craftsmanship of the band is one of my last few joys in life. I love seeing genuine happiness when people give new music a chance, and discover that it might change their world.
Ticks and Leeches also has another scream, not as long but more.... intense? animalistic? less controlled?
Dude, you need to do more Tool. Maynard's signing alone is an experience, Tool is like having 4 musical geniuses composing together.
100% agree
Totally agree. He seems to really appreciate everything about them (without even delving into the lyrics). Would love to see more Tool reactions from him:)
It’s not LIKE having 4 musical geniuses. It’s just 4 musical geniuses.
It’s honestly like Led Zepplin all over again, everyone one of the four is a musical genius
definitely, each member is a master of their craft.
Seeing tool fans being born is my favorite thing on the internet. Tool is not just music, it’s an experience. This is four musicians mastering their craft and putting it together. Truly four of the best. Danny Carey, the drummer can play four different timings with each limb. He would do five, but not with his pants on. You almost have to pause to understand fully what you heard. Don’t be sorry. Welcome to the tool army
LOL by far the best description of Danney i've ever heard
You know they used to say "Pot is a gateway drug:" The Pot seems to have turned into a gateway into becoming a Tool fan.
Yep, you nailed it man. It's a double entendre - it's about the war on drugs and the lawmakers and politicians locking people up for drugs when they themselves are doing the same drugs. The Pot being slang for marijuana obviously, but also the "Pot calling the kettle black" as you mentioned. It's about societal and governmental hypocrisy towards drugs and the people who do drugs.
"War on Drugs" has been going on for decades and watch T.V , half the ads in America are for drugs.
@@JackXombi El Chapo ain't got nothing on Big Pharma, including body count.
@@Art-cn8yl Facts.
Nope. It's not really about anything and you can apply whatever meaning you want towards it. It was written by Maynard in the mid 90s when they were going threw a messy lawsuit for plagiarism for doing what every single person in the industry was doing back then and all of the record labels. At least according to Maynard that's the origins. I'll take his word. Peace.
@@PlagueKing_LordFalix "In a Guitar World interview, Adam Jones confirmed that the title of "The Pot" was a reference to an idiomatic term for hypocrisy (i.e., the "pot calling the kettle black"), in addition to the colloquial term for marijuana."
Bad take bro.
You should listen to Tool’s “Forty Six & 2” next… Definitely find the lyrics first though…it’ll blow your mind. Love your channel!
💯
Yesss! So much yes.
Absolutely 💯 percent and research first. It's a must in order to understand
Fully agree! Forty Six & 2 used to be my favorite track before they released The Pot 🤘🤘
💯
Tools sound engineers and producers deserve alot of love.
I'm a real led zeppelin fan since 1965 I didnt think another band would ever get close to them but tool YOU HAVE DONE IT !!!
In my opinion, Danny Carey, the drummer, is one of the greatest drummers of all time. Also, Tool is remarkable in that I truly believe they have never released a bad song. You can pick any song in their catalog at random and it will be epic.
Yeah, I was going to recommend a few Tool songs to listen to, but the list just goes on until you just say, "You know what, just listen to their first five albums." 😉
Rolling Stone ranked him 25th all time, and thats absolute nonsense, I can't think of 5 better than him
Him and pridgen
Danny Carey , Neil Pert , Jon Bonham, Tim Alexander, Dale Crover are my top 5
You say "In my opinion" ... in my opinion water is wet and the sun is hot. It's ok to just state facts. Carey is as good of a drummer as anyone can be. You can't get better. Maybe different. But not better.
After hearing the song from front to back go back and listen to the very beginning again. You realize that the begging is also Epic in its own special way.
This is true. When I edited the video listening back and understanding the format I was wrong about the intro knowing how good the song gets
@@poloreacts27 you basically got it right. Hypocrites
This song never gets boring
I have a friend who once said it best when it comes to Tool, he said "Mudvayne is my favorite band, but Tool is the best band". When it comes to metal he is absolutely right.
@@timwalklet7259 facts
This song is nonstop puns and malaphors, I love it. Tool is sometimes regarded as lofty and pretentious, but I think Maynard's sense of humour is an underappreciated aspect of his lyrics.
One of the best examples of Maynard's humour I've seen in a TooL song was in Hooker with a Penis. The young, freshly tattooed, arrogant young guy comes in and sneers at Maynard that he "sold out", and Maynard being like "son, I sold my soul to make a record and you bought one, so BUY BUY BUY", and you realise the eponymous hooker with a penis is Maynard himself 😂
Cracked me up!
Yeah, a lot of great tongue in cheek lines.
Yeah, best not to get too caught up on the weed references, it's a framing device :D
Danny Carey and Justin Chancellor will definitely be remembered as one of the most legendary rhythm sections ever. Together with Adam Jones' grungy riffs and incredible experimental leads, as well as Maynard's half poetic, half satiric (and 100% sublime) lyricism and breath taking vocal performances, Tool is bound to go down as one of the late 20th century/early 21th century most influental bands.
Well said!!! Great post, thank you!! 😎👍
I wouldn't call it the most influential band as in it started a trend, genre that others since then tried to follow, I mean, how could they? I would say it's one of the best bands of that period, sure, but no one can mimick Tool, they can try of course, but good luck with that.
@@voiceover2191 yeah...a band could be similar in one area or another....but no band has ever been able to combine all the elements that Make Tool so unique
and I dont think they will be truly universally appreciated until we are all gone....I could see 100 years from now or more future humans will look at tool as the most overall phenomenal band ever
@@hawks7775 I think they are already truly appreciated, you see their sales numbers as soon as a record comes out? No band I can recollect has ever tried to emulate any element of Tool. And no, I don't think they are the most phenomenal band of all time, but among the greats, no doubt, because even if you don't like their music, their craft is undeniable in quality and originality. On the other hand, no need to quibble, let's just enjoy the gifts they leave us.
@@voiceover2191 i totally get what your saying...I dont take it wrong at all....I suppose my pov, why I said that is
I believe so many other bands have great ...musicianship and sound creativity and lyrics and vocals..ect and tool isnt the best at any of those...but tool has this mixture of not seeming mainstream or easy on on their ears..and not being in their own videos not a typical way of delivering their lyrics ect...and to add to that not one particular song would be considered in the greatest of all time in any genre....but its the entire collection and the contrast of each album and their evolution from first to last ...that not only sets them apart now but definitely in the far future when humans are even more spiritually enlightened....
Me personally, I dont mind your pausing the song to give your analysis. That's why I'm here - for your reaction. As long as when you do, you go back a few seconds so as not to miss anything, like some reactors do. Great reaction, brother. ✌🏼✌🏼
Pause it. Rewind play again. It's all good. Especially with a band like tool where it's hard to get the lyrics and the music in one listen. I usually focus in on the music, really appreciate the nuances of it, then the lyrics on the next listen and get a whole new appreciation of the whole song. That's my 2 cents anyway.
We are here for the reaction. We've all heard the song before.
Complete agree. Every time he paused on that first scream I was thinking no your missing it go back!
With friends I have to pause and go back. This is natural when unpeeling the onion that is any Tool song.
Amen Polo - do your reaction your way! We know it hits hard and pauses are inevitable at times.
That sound when you asked "what the hell was that?" is the bass guitar.
The Pot, Sober, Prison Sex, Schism, Eulogy, Fourty Six and 2, Parabola, just so many great songs. Every album you can just hit play and listen straight through.
Right in two. Invincible
Rosetta stoned
I’m a lyrics sort…but this F’ing bass line gets me still to this day. Brilliant. Fav band of all time easily. And this is one of their top five.
This is the beginning of an INCREDIBLE rabbit hole! Fasten your seat belt, it’s going to be one helluva ride!
The awesome thing about Tool is Adam, Danny, and Justin will work out the music together, then they give it to Maynard and he will put lyrics on the track. They’re one of the smartest bands out there today. I’m in awe of Danny Carey. He went back and taught himself a different technique of drumming. His Poly Rhythms are insane. I think you should check out Pneuma, Danny Carey view, and marvel at the octopus like quality of his drumming.
It would make for a long video, but I think it's absolutely worth hearing Pneuma normally before watching the drum cam. Both are incredible though.
They even used the Fubonacci sequence to make a full song for one track off this album i believe. Amazing
@@h.donnellgrayiii4276 I think you’re right about that.
@@h.donnellgrayiii4276 The song Lateralus makes use of the Fibonacci sequence. I'm not sure if they did it again though....
@@h.donnellgrayiii4276 Maynard has said during an interview with Joe Rogan that the song was inspired by the fibonacci sequence, but in no way is the song based off of that sequence. It is definitely present in parts of the song though. I mean it's freakin genius to use it and make it sound amazing.
😂"There's no way I could drive a vehicle and listen to this car" just about sums it up!! 🤣 Great reaction dude!
Tool used elevated base way more than most in metal. Creatively. Made them super unique. On top of amazing vocals. Dude, love your vids.
There is no shortage of amazing tool songs.
And that is a scientific fact
..and yet there will never be enough. Never say never? I'm saying *never* !
Tool is musical perfection. They have developed a sound that brings in complexity, epic albums that bigger than the sum of their parts, amazing progressions, existential and sociological meaning and four of the most amazing musicians of our time together to make something truly special. There is no one quite the same as Tool.
That's why they have Grammy for this song
TOOL is one of the very few bands that gets me emotional. That could be sadness, happiness, retrospection, introspection, fear, bravery, calmness or anger. They hit a different kind of nerve than any other band that I listen to regularly. Listening to an album from start to finish is more like a journey or experience than strictly just listening to music. Is TOOL for everyone? No. However, if you allow yourself to get lost in the experience it can have a profound effect on you. It's like it was conjured up specifically just for me. Continue this journey if you like what you've heard so far. Subbed and liked for future content. Keep up the great work.
Agreed. I saw Tool live nearly 30 years ago and I’ll never forget the feeling of experiencing them live. Beyond the obvious(they were amazing) it was the closest I’ve ever felt to what I imagine being in a place of pure chaos is and that anything could happen. Tool , but Maynard specifically, have this ability to tap into the most primal emotions. It scared the shit out of me. Somehow they brought us right to the edge of madness but wouldn’t push us over
@@ohgeereadmore I absolutely agree. They're all immensely talented. That being said, Maynard is the one who steers the ship for me. He can take into serene and calm waters or headfirst into a tidal wave. I just can't think of another band that can bypass my conscience mind and tap into something subconscious that I wasn't aware of prior. Not everyone will understand but those that do know that feeling of overwhelming emotions that can occur. Tool is more than just a "band". At least they are for me.
@@Z3R0SK1LLZ yeah I think Maynard has that shaman quality that some performers have. Like Jim Morrison or
Jimi Hendrix. The ability to take you on a journey you didn’t know you signed up for
Interesting.. . .me and my husband as re both die hard fans and we were just talking about this a couple of weeks ago. They have a song for every emotion.. whether you want to rage , chill or cry. Best on earth :)
@@ohgeereadmore Jim Morrison is definitely a good comparison to Maynard. I'm also a big fan of The Doors.
I will watch and like every Tool react you do, sir. They are always a huge pleasure and every person who dives into them like this gets my views.

Welcome to TOOL man. Been my favorite music since they started in the early 90's. Their discography is insane. They haven't released a single bad album. It's all 🔥
It's a lovely sight when a Tool fan is born.
TOOL welcome to the party. It's a wild ride.
You wanna hear a scream check out their song The Grudge. One scream. 25 seconds. Parabola/Parabola is one of my favorites. It's all one song even though it's broken into two.
The Grudge takes you through a similar journey. Powerful, raw, and you never know what to expect from the song. I’m jealous of anyone hearing that song for the first time
Like a week ago
10,000 days title of this record was in honor of Maynard's mother. Judith who lived 10,000 days after passing from cancer
Trust me, this is just the start of the Tool rabbit hole. You started out strong, Sober and The Pot are amazing, but there are 2 dozen more I could list. All 4 of the band are masters of their craft, and Tool is one of the deepest most complex bands you will ever encounter. My favourite band if you couldn't tell.
😂I actually got a speeding ticket about 10 years ago while listening to this song.
Tool is not only unbelievably talented, the music is so layered and complex. How Maynard does it I’ll only have nightmares about!!!
Sound @ 11:15 is the bass! That whole section is basically a bass solo. Thanks for the reaction!
I saw them in concert about 15 years ago and was totally blown away. Their stage presence, artform, talent, musicianship and sound is unlike any other band I've ever experienced. Congrats on your discovery of Tool and remember you owe it to yourself to see them at least once in your life.
Simply put Tool is awesome. 10,000 days album is just a masterpiece. There is no other band like them. I can listen to The pot and Vicarious over and over again for hours. Vicarious is almost a meditation tool of power for me
I speed and drive to this all the time, one of my favorites. Such sheer joy of sound.
Everything this band does is gold! Looking forward to your TOOL journey.
46 and 2 next please!!! Best tool song imo.
Oh Maynard is the absolute best screamer. That man has an incredible set of pipes. Amazing voice.
Not lately. Even Steve Perry lost it.
that happens with age man, sad for sure but he's been screaming his lungs out since 92 lol. it's still amazing that his vocals are as strong as they are still in general
Ive been a fan of Tool since the early 90s. Its always fun to see the new fan's realization and understanding of what they are hearing. Its great stuff
Yeah this is easily one of my favorite songs of all time. It's one of the songs I always go to, when testing out new headphones or speakers 👌
I never thought of this song as a good tester song! I love using Exploder by Audioslave, personally ;)
We got him, another on the road to spiraling out! Pro tip, if you're planning to listen to Tool start from the earlier tracks and work your way to the recent. Start with the Undertow album.
I really want him to listen to Crawl Away actually I love that song
Only one thing to say to you. 46 AND 2 is your next song to hear. Incredible.
The world will never experience another band as profound and as gifted as Tool. The creativity and expression of Maynard and all the artist he performs with is unlike no other in human history!
ABSOLUTELY EPIC.! !!!
The song is actually about hypocrisy (The pot calling the kettle black), but has nothing to do with drugs outside of the double entendre . The line "You must have been high" is referencing someone thinking they are high and mighty, when in reality, they are no different or better than the person they're judging. A lot of the subject matter was derived from things they had to deal with while going through a lawsuit with their record label.
The sound you were questioning in the instrumental section is the bass with distortion & a wah wah pedal.
Subscribed to watch a new Tool fan being made. You never get that first time feeling again, but you do appreciate each song on more levels each time you hear it. They really are out here making art.
Tool cooking accessible and art into the perfect dish 😌
All-time favorite band for a reason. Songs are an experience.
I love when they switch it up so that the guitar is following the drums and Justin on bass does something completly different. So unique
"There's no way I can drive a vehicle and listen to this."
I fucking love you, dude. Laughed my ass off at that line.
Tool is an insanely talented band, but who am- I you already knew that!! Awesome.
You hit the thing I love about Tool... the layering, the dynamics... they’re masters of it and on this song, it builds in a way that makes it even that much more powerful
This is an INCREDIBLE song. Everything that Tool is, all of the moving parts of TOOL come together in this tune in perfect synchronicity. Amazing.
Tool is very cerebral and very special . Glad you found them.
Love to watch someone experience this song for the first time. This was amazing!
Don't apologise for pausing, you put out dope content. It doesnt stagnate or anything, it was very enjoyable to watch your first reaction to the pot! I love that you looked up the lyrics beforehand, I think it can be recommended for their songs, and if not, then just having the lyrics pulled up can help. I would recommend their song "Vicarious". It is a banger and the lyrics are brutal!
Welcome to one of the greatest bands ever. Yes Tool is truly mindblowing. It's been over 20 years since I first discovered them and since never left me. Danny Carey, the drummer, was the reason I started to play the drums, what an inspiration. They all are masters at their instruments and singer Maynard J. Keenan is a true poet at writing the lyrics and has an excellent, unique voice. Everything comes together and the result is an amazing musical experience. Also a must see live band. Their concerts are, again, an experience you won't forget. Enjoy!
Back in the day, the thing that attracted me to this band was 1) the bass ( their first album) 2) the videos of their earlier songs.
Bu that BASS..........
The drummer, Carey, has ALWAYS been over the top excellent.
Tools my favorite!! So much feeling in each song ❤
This should have been your first Tool reaction 😂 probably my favorite Tool song.
Pulling pieces together slowly across a song is really Tool's trademark. Everyone's off doing their own brilliant things, then at some point they all come together to form something completely in synch with each other and beautiful, then break apart again - repeat.
This song is quite possibly the best studio mix of a song ever!
Every Tool song is a sonic journey.
Tool is thee antithesis of music in modern times. They use techniques from around the world and are ALL the most professional in their areas. The way the construct their songs is beyond amazing. Like you noticed, they build their songs up over the entire song. EVERYTHING has a purpose and a place and a reason for why they did what they did at that moment in the song and every song they do. Not EVERY song they’ve made is amazing to ME but trust me when I say, GO DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE, you won’t be disappointed.
Promote effort without judging others
I was smiling and laughing through this whole reaction.. it brings me so much fucking joy to see someone appreciate and and analyze incredible music.. whether its Tool, Animals as Leaders or even WuTang..to truly listen to the music and appreciate the talent and technicality.. I just love it.. music drives us all. Really incredible how Tool invokes a different experience from listening through headphones to in a car to live performance.
I love sharing in the experience of ppl broadening their musical horizons
Don't apologize, we came for the pauses. I can draw an analogy to giving a child a present on Christmas morning. You know it's an awesome gift, and youre there to see them take it in and their expressions.
I remember about 15 years ago (mid 2000s) a coworker challenged me. He said I couldn't identify 20 songs that were 5 minutes or longer that were any good. I burned him a full 70 minute CD of just tool songs that were 5 minutes or longer. After one play through he became a diehard Tool fan (more so than I am) and that disk became a mainstay of the warehouse music list.
Later I came to realize that man tricked me into dedicating my time to get him good music to listen to at work. I wasn't even mad at that point.
Great reaction! Tool has been my favorite band since the Opiate album. Insane group of musicians with a lyricist who knows no bounds!
One of my top 5 snowboarding songs ever!
I have loved Tool since i was a teen! I was surprised and happy when i saw them on a reaction video. Great choice!!
I’m really digging your Tool reactions. Keep ‘em coming!
The drop octave bass melody at 3:40 is pure musical mastery.
Yes!!! Love listening to Tool in my car. ❤
The rhythm section is menacing, then the guitar gets right up in your face with the crazy eyes.
man I remember my dad asking if i've heard Tool. I hadn't at that point in my life but by god did he really shape what my music taste is today.
Colby I’m working on my son. I hope he gets there.
That's what dad's do. My daughter loves tool almost as much as I do...almost
Tool is an experience you'll never forget, with nearly every song! Seriously, it may genuinely change how you listen to music forever, many can attest. There are NO bad songs in 30 years of their music, their discography stands alone at the top as far as I'm concerned!
Danny is my all time favorite Drummer!!
You did good bro! Tool is super SUPER intricate! There's always so much to unpack! It's why they're so loved!
I love your reactions, I'm glad you're learning more about rock and realizing how dope and meaningful it can be 😊
Such a great tune. Great reaction. Honestly, when I 1st heard the beginning, I was like…meh. But it just sets you up for the rest!
Please don’t apologize for pausing. I’d offer the vast majority of those watching know the song well. We’re here to watch another person experience this amazing tune for the 1st time. As you go through and pause to explain your thoughts, we’re mostly like…”I know, right?!? It’s f*cking amazing!!”
Ha, that beginning is fantastic imo, funny the likes and dislikes of fans who still love Tool regardless. Maynard's voice at the start just entranced me and drew me right into the journey.
No need to apologize for the pausing and appreciation. Tool fans are not upset or annoyed when someone sees the genius in their music.
You absolutely get it 👍That song will get you moving when youre feeling lazy
Everything they do is in purpose. They sound even better live!! Best band EVER! Enjoy!!
So many amazing songs in Tool's catalogue. So many places you could go next. But I'd recommend working your way through the lateralus album in order first.
That song definitely does it all.
It is a good cruize song!
Another good cruize song is "Black Magic Woman" by Santana. Check that one out at about 55 mph in your car.
The beat goes in time with the strobe of the white dotted lines on the road at 55 mph.
Tool....actual true artists & musicians. Other wordly.
That sound towards the end and the 'solo', is all Justin on bass. A true beast! 10,000 days is a masterpiece of an album. Tool's best in my opinion, by quite a way...and that's saying something.
Justin is playing with his "Digitech Bass Whammy" pedal during that solo
Tool is one of the greatest bands ever at literally making you feel and experience the music they are playing for you instead of just hearing it. You are about to embark on one of the greatest journeys of your life. In all honesty I envy you and the life changing experience you are about to go on. Hearing Tool for the first time and really feeling the music for what it is, is a once in a lifetime experience. Have fun I'll see you at the end of the "spiral".

Tool is intentionally talented. Their compositions sooo decisive and only, possibly, matched by a genious mix of you/me and all true history.
