72 Hours Exploring a SECRET Island (Catch and Cook)

- I spent 3 days Fishing on the Island of Saint Barthelemy, which is a small 4 mile-long island in the Caribbean. The island itself is a French territory that is a popular vacation spot for French and Americans alike. However the lack of direct plane access makes the island somewhat difficult to access. Most people fly to Saint Martin, and then opt to take a 1-hour ferry ride.
I went into this trip with zero experience fishing Saint Barths, or any Caribbean island for that matter. As a result we had to just figure it out and explore the island! Thankfully on our first day we bumped into Chris and Gary @BrinFishing who are locals in Saint Barths, and with their help we were able to catch some brand new species of fish.

2024 is gonna be a BIG year y'all...who wants to see more longform?
Longform doesnt screw my attention span, please post more
ong@@Hmm.223
I do like occasional long ones but I usually prefer the short ones, like a short(1 minute or less videos) too 20 minute video😅
Love the long form
Just started this vid, but I'm def here for more long-form! Watch it in bits, if need be, but love the narrative and story that inevitably develops in a longer video. Cheers!
That father and son deserve a medal for being such good fellow fishermen
The fishings great but I’m even more impressed by how you handled that bird 😂
The fish you were unsure about on day three was a bar jack, I caught some in Mexico.
This was my first year of activity fishing, and I loved every day of it! Even the days I caught nothing. It's helped me with my anxiety and depression a lot, and so have your videos! Thanks for sharing your awesome content.
Tight lines sir! 🙌
This has to be one of your best videos. Very different from ur usual content, and i love it! Please do more like this ❤
Thanks for the shoutout man great video 🤙🏼💪🏼
Great log of the trip. Definitely recommend some heavier hooks for surf-casting tarpon like that. Any jighead with heavier-gauge black nickel-plated hooks like Mission Fishin, NLBN, or zman. I personally cant stand those longer stainless jigheads, had way too many fish bend those hooks out.
I haven’t even finished the video and I can already say that this was awesome!! You and I and everyone on here need to do this more! Just good vibes overall especially with the local fishermen
Man, I was clutching my chest every time you set your kit down in the sand or surf until midway through. I had no idea "sealed" reels existed! Tunin in from Australia!
some people use those van staal reels to go skishing. completly sealed and able to turn under water as well lol
Even if it’s sealed putting a reel in the water unnecessarily can’t be a good idea sealing can fail. Putting the reel directly on the sand makes me cringe. Exposing your line and spool rim to grit is never a good idea even if the reel is sealed.
I love you videos I’ve never been fishing in the ocean personally but It seems like so much fun!
There's some things about fishing that get me! When you get one on, he absolutely don't know what you're going to catch. Even if you gear for a particular type of fish, you don't know till you see the color. I'm old and half blind, but I love some bass fishing. I know has nothing to do with this video, but you brought up Whopper Poppers. I have one beat up. Middle-sized waffle popper in a perch pattern. Can't really forward lots of colors but this one does me just fine. I've actually caught 12 bass in 1 hour fishing from the bank on a small lake. Now that's a producing lure. So here's hoping you pick me and fatten up my tackle box. Great show as always, and you sure do fish some beautiful places
Great video! As someone who only fishes small streams and lakes, I can’t imagine going to the ocean and just casting out. Maybe one day I’ll get to try it out.
This long form was really cool. I like your short stuff as well but the long form really let's us know how much you enjoy what you do.
Awesome video! I've grown up just freshwater fishing but now I'm getting into saltwater. It's a totally different experience!!
Those blue runners are also named Short mackerel Delicious just bony and small, usually what you're catching is giant for the one's-catching the keys. Florida
I’m getting into fishing and I’m learning most of my knowledge from you! Keep up the great content❤
Favourite fishing creator never gets boring😃
love the bird catching part
Man I would love to visit St. Barths and fish! Great looking place
You should full video pike fish in Boston that would be cool
mike is the only guy to make an entertaining video with just fishing and his voice. Good vid man!
As a chef i also love the cookign aspect of your videos everything you make looks great!
Epic video! Would love to see more long form content like this!
That's one of the Best things about fishing the memories and the people you meet.
I love the plopper! Lost one just like that in a tree a few months ago :/
You need to “bow to the king” I am an American fishing 3 years here in Puerto Rico, the number one tule when these tarpon jump is to bow to them, meaning point the rod straight out at the fish with a slight lean to reduce line pressure. We fish with 30 lb. Line and catch 120+ lb tarpon using this philosophy, as soon as they jump bow to the silver king.
Didn’t watch the rest of video, heard you mention the bowing just now, it makes all the difference, we always say here in Puerto Rico, if you bow you have a 50/50 chance of landing the fish, if not maybe 10%
Love your content, brother! Cheers from Norway!
I love your videos keep up the hard work and tight lines
thanks for doing this man, you’ve really helped me grow in my fishing skills. best fishing youtuber 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼🎣
Awesome vid, sick trip. More long form content sounds amazing!!!
The fish you caught @36:42 is a Bar Jack or also known as a Blue-striped Cavalla. Very common in the Caribbean especially around the windward islands.
Would love to go to a island like that
Keep up the good work! Love some catch and cook!
Your drag is way too tight, if you let the tarpon tire out it just ends up hurting the fish even more. If you have the shot when they are green, try to tail-grab them. Also, tarpon have a hard mouth so you really want to make sure that your hook is pinned, I sometimes even set the hook three or four times repeatedly to make sure I have a good hookset on the fish. Love this video!
The whopper plopper is essentially the lure I caught 95% of the time this year and I go fishing hopefully at least 3 times a week, all day. It's so weird seeing a long video from you! I'll definitely be watching any new long uploads! Thank you from Wisconsin!
The travel+fishing+meet people format is really cool, I feel like I just toured this beautiful island and its fishing scene from your eyes.
Absolutely sick video. Can’t wait to see more long form content from you!
I loved the video and want to see more catch and cook!
Me:What kind of music should you listen to while fishing?
Fish:Beats me.
Me: Something catchy!
Fish:uhhhh😳
I love this video, after so many break offs you finally caught a tarpon!!!
when you hook tarpon keep the rod low so they don't jump
That “needlefish” is actually a hound fish. In the same family just grow significantly larger.
I want more long videos like this!!
6:04 him having that in the water hurt me (I know it’s probably waterproof or something but my father taught no we aren’t to never leave reels in salt water)
Gary’s a G for tryna help out
Fishing is the best

Looks like a great trip. Reminds me of a time i was fly fishing in Montana and caught and fought a cowbird mid air. Thankfully it was just tangled in the leader and not hooked.
Great video! Travel vlog and fishing - keep up the good work! Tight lines.
Fishing is pretty fun
Just started fishing this year, learned a lot from your videos! Thank you
Great vid. I love seeing long form videos. You should do one on bass fishing next
Flutter jigs have to be my #1 saltwater lure. They always catch something, no matter what
IN AUSTRALIAN They are called Mackerel Tuna And as you said mainly used for bate That's because they don't know how to prepare then The dark meat is there fast twice muscle .
Awesome vid man keep it up
When a tarpon jumps you need to lean forward and point the rod at him so he dosent pop off
Great vid man!

I caught a jack crevale in the Florida keys trauling and kept it. But we forgot about it, so we ended up having to throw it out.

You cannot get a direct flight to St Barths unless it's to/from Saba or St Maartin. The runway is very short.
I love fishing sooo much and you make great fishing videos!
