Lots of videos out there, it's clever no doubt but its genius is that its a manual box with shifting operated by electonically (solenoids) activated pistons/rods. The input shaft is 2 piece, the first inserts into the second shaft making 2 input shafts that looks like its 1 shaft. There are then 2 counter shafts for gears 1-4 and 5-6 for example. Which of the 2 input shafts (and so which gears ) is selected is controlled by 2 clutches at the top of the input shaft, an outer clutch and inner clutch (automatically operated) with regular clutch packs as seen in auto boxes (and some ltd slip diffs), operated using oil pressure. Trouble is the durability of the clutch packs and lower gears, some say it's a problem though I don't know too much about that and I'm in no way an expert at all!! I guess it depends on what your vehicle life expectancy is. The benefit is that repair would be much like a regular manual box (that's what it is) and the mechatronics unit (the electronics) is easily replaceable too. Much better than regular auto boxes which are basically not maintainable anymore.
mine is making a woble/scraping sound mainly wile accelerating in 1st 3rd and 5th, noisier in 1st gear. 6 speed. Going to change the DSG oil because its been 4 years already not close to milage due... Any hopes it will go away?
Fuel economy and still every semi-automatic is 50 kilos heavier then manual gearbox, and that affect on fuel consumption, more kilos, more fuel - simple. Also when it fails, you need, a LOT of money to fix semi-automatic gearbox.....
Dsg failures are about as common as manual failures. Fuel economy is no longer as bad as in the 90s. You comment is nothing but fear-mongering honestly
Are there any known numbers of the declines on the DSG? Bec that would make more of a statement instead of just saying it. People won’t trust you saying that it’s better now bec they will still follow the bad reviews on diff media platforms. As a VW fan I hope its true that the dsg is getting fixed bec that new POLO does look stunning and will be a big seller. Planning on buying a dsg one but waiting if there are any faults with the dsg after 2 years of ownership. If not you did a good job and the POLO will be my new love!
The early problems were that they didn't use a low sulphur oil and it corroded the electronics or the metal which then shorted the electronics (I'm not an expert), so everyone had to have their oil changed (VW were happy to let lots of people have failed gearboxes though). So just that change would have reduced complaints massively. However VW have never addressed the weak clutch pack and weak lower gear issues and i'm sure forums have other issues too. Manufacturers just won't come clean though on issues and are incredibly devious with major problems.
While an excellent idea (this should have replaced every auto box in the world) the clutch packs and lower gears were simply not robust enough and there were many, many problems. That's my take, I'm not an expert so I may be wide of the mark on what the actual cause was. VW made the mistake of not using low sulphur oil (?) initially which corroded the electronics but I would like VW to address the question of durability wrt to the clutch packs and lower gears. It would be great to hear that I'm talking nonsense and understand the real reasons for problems ! Having an automatic / electronic operation of manual gears (DSG) is a great idea, the boxes are easy to produce (and repair if necessary) and those mechatronic units are replaceable too. I'm extremely dubious about the Ford and GM 10 speed type auto's , they're simply not age proven enough and no one maintains / repairs them. I'm a VW Multivan owner of 15 years, but if I were to get another vehicle it would be Toyota all the way. I think it's ridiculous that VW timing chains on their cars are being replaced after 100,000 miles (why bother with chains if they need replacing so young?) and repair bills generally are so high now - as are car prices - reliability is key. High cost repairs are becoming normal - especially with German cars - and are becoming justified by the massive prices of new cars. That's just not a world I want to play in. We'll see what the electric transition does. Solar panels producing hydrogen is interesting - imagine generating your own fuel!!
We'd concur, the number of DSG related customer complaints we've received has decreased tremendously. It's really some innovative and efficient technology.
Hi Kazemi, we've made tremendous effort to improve our products and services, and we've seen a huge decline in DSG related customer complaints. Hope this eases your mind about DSG.
So... How does it work?
Exactly hahaha
😅

Like riding and shifting a semi automatic transmision motorcycle..

Character In the video It's great, I like it a lot $$
Why vw Malaysia not selling manual vw car here? Many manual lovers actually, because of avoiding dsg i just use french car with 4AT ZF now
I had a cheap 2006 San-Yong Rexton. That autobox changed just as smooth as my new Caravelle DSG.
@@Deontjie nice, use Mercedes stuff?

Go update your DSG software at SC
How DSG transmision works? .... THEY DONT.
However many complaints from owners of failure

yer 8 yer old 150000 km = dead dsg transmission = 10000 us for a new fuck this it's almost 20 years old and the shit still can't hold 😕
Dsg transmission dead after 10k? Sounds like you dont know how yo drive your car 😂😂😂
DSG gearbox = Broke car
@Retro Nomix
It has been just a year 😂 nice confidence 👌
Damn my passat with 270k km on the dash hasnt died yet.. Its almost like you have to take care of your car to make it last 😂😂
Dsgs are not practical
Sounds like you got gapped by one
