DSG best transmission where there was a recall in 2009 when cars would get the flash of death (Flashing PRNDS) and your vehicle would get into neutral and you have to turn off you car in order to get it working again. Best mechatronic unit reliability where you can have 20000 miles and it already failed. When you want to shift into reverse from drive and your transmission gives out because it's faulty. Perfection
I wouldn't hesitate to say that some transmission problems turn out to be the dual mass flywheel. I had one go on my 2006 Jetta TDI and my 2017 Jetta GLI 6 speed manual. The one on my GLI cost me $3000. I was pretty angry about that. I have the flywheel and clutch and just 1 rivet caused it to fail. I'm not impressed.
In the cost comparison matrix the information doesn't concur fully with what the narrator is saying. Perhaps some might be able to explain how 'the DSG is ahead in terms of cost alone'. There's some 56 secs of sound missing from 3:16 to 4:12, which is disappointing, because this video would appeal to the more technically minded of us. People who buy DSG specifically because of its performance advantages would be fascinated to see the video if is was complete.

Cost 0??? At ~$9500 USD for a new/replacement OEM unit (Audi)--these things are not cheap! Nor is it easy to find anyone capable or willing to repair one given the low risk vs. reward in doing so (at least not once you are dealing with issues inside the gear box). When serviced and not leaking fluid, they are hard to rival, but if one starts to fail or lets go, plan on dropping some dough. I am about to pay $4500 all-in on a salvage unit including flat rate shipping and install given the code on my unit is so rare.
My Polo does not even have 50 000km on and the DSG is giving a warning. Apparently a faulty microswitch. Will cost thousands. I should have stayed with Volvo.
Now buddy can unterstand what the VW is talking about. As far as one can make a decision out of the animations, it takes only clear, that this technologie is worth because not depending on rules for a a long technical life.
DSG is the worst possible gearbox ever made. Wear out quickly if u live in a hill like place or if u tow a trailer more than 300kg.... Special place inn hell for the ppl that designed this

The dry clutch version wasn't around nearly as long. Yes, earlier in production the 6 speed was suspect to break down. But it was used for so long the kinks got worked out. I have a 2012 6 speed and it shifts like butter at 90k

Anyone elses video lose sound half way through then get it back after?
I lost it and turned it off...
Yes
The sound droppedout around half way.
Same here, it just muted while listening
Almost seems intentional as that is the most critical part of this presentation

best gearbox for the moment.by far.
Looking back, the first 5 versions veer not good, but after that, love it :-)
I am always thinking what happens when those clutches wear out
Rough shifting and Jerk
You replace them....
same thing happens to a manual. jerkiness or you can't move.
Very informative!
Dry clutch it’s gonna wear much faster no? What’s the difference between their manual from VW? Because their manual still is cheaper.

In england it doesn't make any sense, but can see why for left hand driving vehicles. Still prefer manual driving in england. Great fun.
Your comment doesn't make any sense either. So I guess it all balance out then 👍

The 6 speed DSG is the better transmission. The 7 speed has dry clutches and is much less reliable
the wet clutches 6 speed is not reliable at all due to oil contamination clogging up the mechatronics unit solenoids
