I was a complete mess. I was reacting to everything from soap to every food. I went from itchy and eczema at 16, to mouth sores and constant burning, to anaphylactic at 50. At 55 I changed to a biological dentist who did s cone beam scan. She found my cause. A molars roots had grown into my sinus cavity when I was a young teen. It opened a channel between my mouth and my sinus cavity which was transferring everything I ate into my sinus cavity. My immune system was recognizing every thing as something to attack. I had the tooth removed and it healed beautifully. After a year and a half the only thing I still react to is cinnamon. There is a lot of damage, but I am enjoying not actively dying with every meal
@@carrington2949 I hadn't either until my daughter found a FB group who is centered around the dangers of root canals. I joined and started reading post. Members kept referring to biological dentist. I found one an hour away from me and made an appointment. She requires every new patient to have blood work, genetic testing and a cone beam scan. She is a traditionally trained dentist who developed a lot of health issues. She went through a lot of testing only to discover she was being poisoned by the amalgam (silver) fillings she was working with. She realized the traditional dental practices were doing more harm than good so completely revamped her practice and office
Our teeth affect us and our health/bodies so much we don't understand to what extent. Unfortunately due to ill health and years of medication my teeth have suffered and now they are awful but I can't afford to do anything about it. I honestly think they are making me more sick, it's like a vicious cycle

This is good confirmation of what I've been doing the past 3 years. I was taking allergy injections 3 years ago and had candida. My allergist suggested the candida diet. I started it using fermented foods. Went in for my allergy shots and immediately went into anaphylaxis. One of the nurses sent me a text suggesting histamine intolerance. So i started researching. Did a 3 day water fast and started adding histamine lowering foods. I felt better in a few days. Within 3 months i had lost a much needs 30 lbs and felt better than i could remember in years. I have recently been eating off diet slowly adding lbs and feeling the histamine rise. Today I'm putting my plan back in play. Looking forward to feeling better in no time. Quercetin 1000mg three times daily along with vit C 3000mg daily REALLY helped decrease the mucus flow from my sinuses. At the same time, I started taking methylated (REAL vitamins from healthfood store) B1, B2, B5, B6, B9, & B12, along with a methylated multi vitamin/mineral daily, Omega 3 one daily, Vit D3 (I found out I was very low so 10,000 IU daily for three months), K2 100mg daily, Ultra Mag 2 tablets daily, Glutathione 1000mg daily (helps the gut), Ashwaganha EP 35 one capsule daily & Rhodiola 200milligrams twice daily (because my cortisol was only up at night, keeping me awake), & a concentrated Curcumin one tablet three times daily (to kill the Candida). Worth mentioning: our body releases histamine every time we eat, I believe it’s connected to stomach acid. Which explains why some people have allergy symptoms no matter what they eat.

He knows what he's talking about! I became histamine intolerant, with constant itching & almost drowning in mucus from my sinuses...just hell. It all began with allergies for me, but thanks to those like him on YT, I learned about it, cleaned up my gut, changed my diet. From there, learned about autoimmune disease & how thats treated, with great improvement in my hypothyroid & prediabetic conditions.

Struggled with scalp and beard eczema for years, never understood why. Over time I also started to get a runny nose whenever I ate, and heart palpitations at night (usually at 3 or 5 am, when the body tends to release a lot of histamines). Lastly, I even got an unbearably strong dust mite allergy from taking probiotics - because, as it turns out, some of the bacteria in common probiotics also produce histamines. Tested so many different hypotheses, supplements and treatments. Finally I understand it's histamines. Note: I don't react to all high histamine foods (e.g. canned tuna, apple cider vinegar, fresh milk), but all the foods that I do react to are high histamine (tomatoes, avocado, cured meat and leftover meats, yoghurt, etc.). So I guess there is individual variance. Plus my stomach feels uncomfortable from many other foods (apples, most types of bread) which I presume is due to SIBO. Such a complicated mess. I enjoy the carnivore diet, but it's hard to follow, and gets even more difficult when I can't eat any leftovers and I can't be certain that the animal I'm eating hasn't spent a few days in the Supermarket cooler already.
About leftovers. Freeze as quickly as possible after making a meal. Freezing stops the production of histamine. I will freeze the meat part of the meal and have at a later time. Beef is difficult because it is hung for several days after slaughter allowing the histamine to rise. I will buy a piece of Beef, bring it home and mince it as soon as possible, and freeze in 500g quantities. It works for me. Lamb is better as it is not hung but it is still a matter of getting it into the freezer as soon as possible. Fresh caught and snap frozen fish seems OK. Fish starts to develop histamine within an hour of being caught. The same with chicken. I will buy a fresh roasted chicken, strip it and freeze the meat immediately. The bones go straight into the freezer to make chicken broth later, which is immediately frozen. I make my own hamburger patties. And freeze immediately. It seems a lot of work but after a while it becomes second nature. Dr Beth O'Hara's website is brilliant for it's information. I've only just found this one. I've let myself slip and am now paying for it, so back l go onto the stricter diet. Also l found low histamine probiotices very good. Hope all this helps.

Makes sense how it’s tied to estrogen. I never had any histamine or allergy type symptoms until I hit around 36 years of age. Now I’m realizing at almost 42 that I am definitely in perimenopause and likely have been for a few years now. Plus my histamine issues tend to get worse right before my period.

I left western medicine and all it's addictive and deadly drugs seven years ago. Ever since I stopped taking all the SNRI's Adderll, opiates, benzos, etc. I haven't had allergies. I'm no longer allergic to my cat. My critical thinking came back, and I've found nature/God's way of dealing with my problems. It was definitely the change I needed. At 65 I am now inflammation free, as that is the first thing that went away when I quit those doctors and drugs.
Since I have been making progress through my healing journey from IBS, leaky gut and SIBO along with histamine intolerance, I have seen significant improvement in PVCs, post-nasal drip, blurry vision, hives, and acid reflux. First of all be confident that you will get better . This can take time but it's worth the effort when you start to feel better. I've had IBS for a long time but I was able to control it with eliminating gluten, Dairy and most cheeses from my diet I followed the FODMAP diet for quite a few years one mistake that I realize now is that eliminating all these foods for so long was probably not a good idea. I was also taking Pepcid which was increased up to 80 mg per day find my Digestive Healthcare Medical dr. What a mistake taking all that medication back in December I got sibo. It was diagnosed through a breath test and I was given xifaxan which I needed two rounds of the prescription in order to minimize some of my symptoms. I also started to use Visbiome which my medical doctor recommended as a well researched lacto/bifido probiotic supplement. That is when I fortunately found Dr, Ruscios videos. from him I learned about the Monash University FODMAP app. Even though I was following the FODMAP diet I was not controlling the portions and therefore was getting too much of low FODMAP foods that I liked. I started to follow the recommended portion sizes in the diet which I was able to see on the app. This made a big difference! I continued this way and did really well for a few months. But in the summer I was back to having bloating and gas I decided to have a stool analysis done through Valley integrative Pharmacy which you will find online but I live very close to where they are located. The test was sent to me at home and was called the gut zoomer. The test identified that I was not digesting fats and my body was low on short chain fatty acids it was recommended that I take a digestive enzyme as well as a few other supplements that would help me to improve digestion and increase short chain fatty acids in my body. The digestive enzyme was the key to enabling me to eat the foods that would help me to improve my microbiome. I am making a shake every day with lactose free Kiefer, blueberries, green banana flour or green banana, as well as the supplements that I was given through the pharmacy. With the digestive enzyme I am able to eat foods that are outside of the FODMAP diet. I am introducing them slowly I just cannot believe how the digestive enzyme has helped me so much with the bloating and help to regulate my stools. I've also been able to start taking Dr Ruscios soil-based probiotics without a reaction I also exercise and try to get a lot of sleep. PVCs are due to bloating putting pressure on your vagus nerve and related nerves around your heart. That’s why people get them after eating fermentable carbohydrates and in certain positions such as lying down or squatting. Histamine causes tachycardia.
I get a high dizzy feeling when I eat sugar, I've had that since childhood. I have felt hypoglycemic since adolescence. I've also had insomnia all my adult life and fatigue. Love this, you give me so much hope as someone who has been going through 'prednisone/ topical steroid withdrawal'. My derm has been very supportive through my illness but it's been very difficult trying to fixed my gut caused by steroid pills. I have a histamine intolerance and ibs now. I will be testing for SIBO soon.
My doctor checked my histamine levels and they were 140, over double what they should be. I got them down to 70 but now I have stopped doing what he said and I am sure I am back up again. I eat an avocado every day along with sauerkraut. I eat sardines for breakfast. I have an irregular and racing heart at times, and neuropathy on my feet legs, and arms. I have a runny nose quite often and I have lost my voice to singing. Good grief, I need some help!! I subscribed to your channel.
So if you do a diet for a bit and repair your gut and are able to tolerate those foods again, is it safe to say you'll eventually damage it again and need to repair again? So we should do these types of protocols regularly?

I dont know how i found this video but it sounds quite like me. Im generally and superficially very healthy but i have itching, at times brain fog, and insomnia. I'm gonna try this diet particularly the vegetable one bc it seems i am reacting to the mold in my house. Thank you for making this video Doc. Low thyroid will give you histamine intolerance i.e. mast cell activation is increased in those with hypothyroidism. I started taking levothyroxine and stopped needing anti-histamines and the DAO pills - except the anti-histamine occasionally when I've been stressed out and inflammation increases throughout.
Nice picture of the celia. Villi? I have a picture from the esophogogastric duodenoscopy that confirmed my having celiac disease. It looks like a water hose. None of those little fingerish looking gut liners. That was more than twenty years ago. Eliminating gluten got the hives and diarrhea and reflux pretty much gone. Yup. Been dealing with this crap for 5 years. It’s awful and mentally exhausting. It started while I was wfpb and just got worse. It got so bad that I could barely eat anything. So I reluctantly went carnivore due to lack of any other options. I had no idea what was happening nor did my doctors. All I knew is that within months I was almost completely better. Once I felt better I started adding plant foods back in and eventually started getting sick again. So I went on a gut healthy routine that included all the fermented foods and all that jazz. It wrecked me . It was just last year that the answer was revealed to me. Literally the day after I broke down and just asked for an answer. I stumbled upon a video on histamine issue. Now that I have an answer as to why I’m having problems, I’m trying to find a way to heal this. I’m extremely better than I was but I have flares where I’ll go months with issues and then they just go away.
It’s not histamine intolerance because meat is drastically much higher in histamine and other biogenic amines than plants. It’s probably a food reaction which involves mast cells which release histamine, or Klebsiella aerogenes producing a tremendous amount of histamine, and not dietary histamine, which is what is bothering you. Did you have food poisoning before the symptoms started by any chance?

I’m so sorry you’ve been dealing with this. Happy if the info we present helps at all. Going low histamine could have an impact on those symptoms for sure. UC can be caused by autoimmunity, which is sometimes tied up with histamine issues - some food for thought. As far as testing, it depends on what you’re looking for. Some people use GI map, but often it’s sufficient to treat based on symptoms rather than having a composite of the organisms there.
What triggers your hives? Does sweating or heating trigger it? Do you see actual bumps on your skin or do you only feel a sensation? Do you suffer from anxiety/chronic stress/hypervigilance by any chance?

I love the video, but I highly disagree with your food list; milk is very low histamine, vegetables are low, and protein sources are very high; proteins are built of chains of amino acids, of which one is histidine, and when they undergo the slightest bacterial decomposition (which happens to any meat because meat is almost always hung for a while), it’s inevitable, because hhere are always some bacteria on there which produce histidine decarboxylase which turns histidine into histamine. Cooking meat also decarboxylates it. Pork is the worst. Some fish are as well, depending on how they were stored. Raw milk is extremely high as well, unlike pasteurized milk. Some fermented things have micro organisms which break down histamine, so sometimes, paradoxically, aged foods are low histamine where you would expect them to be high. It depends highly on storage, the microbiome on the food and more. The most common offenders are vacuum stored red meat like pork, ground meats, homemade fermented products, probiotics and tomato sauce. I’ve been in the fora and delved very deep into this stuff myself, and it’s extremely variable so I think there is a large component of local mast cell reactivity to it as well. Also, almost all of the sufferers have some sort of health anxiety, hypervigilance/hypersympathetic activation/hyperarousal syndrome and gut problems. Which one was first; the chicken or the egg? It’s unclear, but I’ve seen some recover completely by means of focusinc on calming their nervous system/limbic system and having them relearn how to feel safe. I’m trying this but I’ve plateaud, so I don’t think nervous system work is everything. I also believe dysbiosis to be a great part of it. In my case I developed it after a series of food poisoning, the last one making it worse than ever imaginable with toxoplasmosis (unicellular paradite) and campylobacter jejuni. It led to these symptoms as well as severe abdominal distention. 4 rounds of rifaximin later and my bloating is gone, but the histamine intolerance with severe cholinergic itch/pruritus is still debilitating and as a 26 year old I’m still not good enough to go back to work again.
I'd like the home test info, please. Guess I've had mild HI "forever", mostly hay fever, but full-blown after "the virus". I manage with pretty low hist near carnivore diet, some AH, sime DAO. like to tune in even better.
I have all those symptoms. I take antihistamines every day or I'll get hives. I take famotidine which helps acid reflux. I need to follow the diet, but I just can't seem to stick to it. Of course, the high histamine foods are my favorite foods. The body systems chart showing the different areas affected by different receptors mentions muscle cells - is that why all my muscles are tender or is that a different problem? I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I haven't seen muscle soreness discussed in relation to histamine. I discovered I had histamine intolerance when I did genetic testing, and it showed I was prone to it because I did not produce enough DAO. I looked it up, and sure enough I had every symptom. I had another testing in the doctor's office which suggested gluten intolerance. I had complete allergy testing twice and was negative. Now if I can just give up all my favorite foods. One of the worst episodes of gastric distress I ever had was after eating monkey bread. Not only is it very high in gluten, it's also high in histamine.
If you hve EDS it affects the gut. The gut lining is made up largely of collagen, eds = faulty collagen. Mast cells are everywhere we have connective tissue, thus it can effect various body systems & organs. The mcas has its own pain that exacerbates the eds pain. Fibro is basically a misdiagnosis for eds
What about yeast in general and nutritional yeast in particular? Should they be avoided if you suspect histamine intolerance? And in addition to that: what's your opinion on yeast consumption for people who have tested positive for ASCA, yet don't have Crohn's symptoms as of now? Your answer will be greatly appreciated. Yeast doesn’t contain histamine per se but can sometimes catalyze histamine production. It’s tricky, because we know some yeasts, like s boulardii, to be generally beneficial to gut health - but it’s not the right fit for everyone
Can it cause numb legs and leg pain in a child? My daughter seems to have lupus but was tested and doesnt have it. They even didna brain scan and she has dizziness and leg pain conatantly. She says it started after the dentist so im wonderig if the gas did it.

It’s not. I had OAS and I induced oral tolerance by gradually consuming more and more of the foods that cause itching. I couldn’t eat apples, cherries, pears, apricots, peaches, jackfruit, macadamia and more nuts without lots of oral itching (NO SWELLING; IF YOU HAVE SWELLING DON’T FOLLOW MY ADVICE BECAUSE IN THIS CASE IT IS A BONIFIED ALLERGY). I can now eat all without any symptoms. Again, start with very small pieces daily, then increase the size. It happens very rapidly, in less than a month. Just make sure you’re not anxious when doing it, be open minded and accepting of symptoms, and have someone near you. Good luck

But it really works but only for oral allergy syndrome. my neighbor tried this too and he can now eat apples again at age 50, having avoided it for decades. It’s due to molecular mimicry, I think. Just do it slowly and don’t fear it. I would be careful with the foods you mentioned which affect your eyes as well. But still worth a try. Good luck

I have hEDS, Dysautonomia, MCAS, lipedema, dercums, endometriosis & adenomyosis, insulin resistant pcos. So much to try to balance. It’s helpful to hear that we cannot just look at genetics.
Interesting. I personally seem to be okay with some high histamine foods. Like you said, may be dose dependent. Some probiotics give me headache. Not sure why. Cutting high oxalate foods from my diet has been very helpful for me overall :).
Me with MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) watching lol I’m on the protocol but my GI hates me still. My protocol is Zyrtec every single day 80 mg of fat every single day and singular every day. It is not cool when I have break through hives or issues but so long as I steer clear of milk and other allergens it is ok. Only time it gets super worse is during pregnancy. That’s when the eczema really gets bad and the other breakthrough allergy stuff like stomach issues and stuff. Thanks to that’s and EDS. I had its since I was 5. It’s a battle to behave but not starve from behaving. On and off fodmaps diet has helped. I appreciate and need this info!!

I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome diagnosed and suspected mast cell activation syndrome, and recently I have started using Low Dose Naltrexone, which is used in low dosage for pain management and auto immune disorders as opposed to the normal dose for alcohol and opiod use disorder. After seeing an amelioration of other symptoms, I saw it could also help with mast cells and pots! Have you heard of that, I would love to know what you think. Thank you again for all your videos.

Do you think mentality creates such things? All illnesses sound the same to me, even immune disorders. I always wonder if there is a root cause. I hear a lot of brain gut connection, usually used in what you eat but what about what you think? Which leads to you sending signals to what you eat as it goes down. I'm always curious to why people can eat and drink whatever they want and live successful lives yet I'm over here cutting everything out and still my mind is always on why am I sick. I exercise, eat mostly whole foods, take my probiotics and vitamins, cut out alcohol years ago, yet still 12 years and working on my digestion. Doctors haven't found nothing wrong with me.
Have you tried a low fodmap diet for a short period of time to check of you feel better? I was vegan for a couple of years and eating healthy was not helping me.
@@zolamadda5980 same I was vegan for a year but ended up malnutritioned. Right now I have cut out gluten for the last 3 months, I have yet to try out low fodmap diet. Might be my next step.
The gut-brain connection is very real. The gut has one of the largest concentrations of neurons in the body! It’s very intertwined with our nerves. That said, just because they haven’t found something “wrong” with you doesn’t mean your symptoms aren’t real or that you aren’t sick. For functional disorders (nerve-related), conventional GIs usually prescribe meds like nortriptyline to re-regulate the nerves. Have you tried a medication like that? Beyond that, you could be dealing with inflammation, and diet can help. I know that’s frustrating to hear, especially if you’ve been taking care to do the right things, but you might have an intolerance, dysbiosis, or another problem where even healthy, clean foods can trigger symptoms. If you haven’t tried low fodmap or paleo, might be worth a go
@@DrRuscioDC I haven't tried any medication but something that calms the nerves I would definitely think would help as mine always seem to be on fire. I suppose I will try the low fodmap diet.
Tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, nortriptyline, etc) in low dose are used for that type of stuff, but if you notice you have an anxiety or stress disorder, I would rather work on that with cognitive behavior therapy with the help of a therapist to actually target the root cause; chronic sympathetic activation leads to chronic CRH secretion in the HPA axis which leads to mast cell activation, also it leads to intestinal barrier dysfunction and more. The nervous system is the internet of your body. It regulates EVERYTHING. Learn to recondition your body by having positive experiences and having it feel safe again.

Neural pain can be caused by eds, which is a comorbidity of mcas. Those with histamine intolerance can have mcas. This can also be caused by blood pooling from dysautonomia
I developed severe TMJ that made me unable to function. I began taking OTC 200mg Ibuprofen one to two times per day with the blessings of my PCP. After 4-5 years of this I got SLE and discoid. I need to repair my gut (have had IBS for years) but am unsure what probiotics to take. I have changed my diet. My health history very complicated but I am determined to improve my quality of life.

Anyone suffering with food related histamine issues take 1-2 DOA supplements before each low histamine meal. Take 2-4 before a higher histamine meal. This will help your body process the histamine out. Antihistamines only block your H1 receptor so the symptoms decrease but the histamine is still circulating in your body. A low histamine diet, adding in DOA with an antihistamine (you can take up to 4/day if needed) will give you your life back. Then work on fixing your gut. All products by seeking health are low histamine including their probiotics. The probiotic must be low histamine and most are not. Amy Meyers has great products for leaky gut and a dairy free colostrum alternative to heal your gut. I also highly recommend taking digestive enzymes before each meal. ❤️
Also, i experimented with ancient nutrition thymus $65 and then a lower cost one, like $22 and the Ancient Nutrition worked far more effectively. I have mcas and I take dao, histdigest, thymus, h1 & h2, immune modulators, and dysbiocide for my IMO. When I wasn’t treating the IMO my symptoms were worse also.

I have been dealing with this for 10 years. Trying to figure out what the hell is going on. I break out in hives a day after alcohol with heart palpitations. Same hive with certain medications and NSAIDS. When taking a multivitamin my symptoms are not as bad. Lactose consumption issues. I have always felt better when eating better. But this ties together a lot of my issues. Thank you
I have another possible symptom. Blurry vision. I have been getting it seemingly randomly. I tried many different eye drops thinking it was dry eyes. I found that the condition responded well to antihistamine eyedrops. Then I went down a rabbit hole and examined my diet. It's looking like aspartame from drink packets like crystal light was the major factor. Time will tell.

I agree! I am already a myope but I think it causes ciliary muscle spasm. Maybe it’s also because you stay more inside behind screens because you can’t enjoy your outdoors life as much. That’s an obvious alternative explanation.

I was ordered to do a low fodmap diet by my doc and I will start in two days. my nutritionist said I could eat tomatoes while on the diet... I ate a lot of tomatoes today testing a recipe and now I have a horrible "rosacea". It looks horrible and I hadn't flared in a lot of time. I guess I will do low fodmap + low histamine just to be sure while on the SIBO treatment.
Hello Doc currently trying to bring up bifido levels due to antibiotic use which resulted in a histamine intolerance. Currently taking HMOs. Is there any evidence that a symbiotic approach can actually populate the gut permanently? Don't want to end up just feeding the transient visitors. Thinking almost just prebiotics in a fasted state would be best. many thanks can't find any studies on this.
It is very hard to actually introduce new microbes in an already active microbiome other than by means of fecal microbiota transplant. Getting outside, foraging, touching animals, other healthy people, sharing food, kissing, etc might increase diversity without having to transplant poop, but that is not as reliable. Do you suffer from anxiety/chronic stress/hypervigilance by any chance?
The thing is that these are foods that have a lot of nutritional value that shouldn't be discarded permanently. You need to work on a cure for your specific root cause of your histamine intolerance so you can eventually go back to eat them if you can do so . In the meantime, take DAO supplements to help you deal with it, like I do. Not all foods that are high histamine give me a reaction. For the ones that do, I take DAO and very few I had to eliminate completely.
Struggled with skin rashes that go systemic and mystery allergy symptoms, and found I had one DAO genetic SNP. I've reduce various things out of my diet and take DAO supplement if I know I will have a higher histamine meal. An allergist could not confirm HIT, perhaps because I was doing okay managing it. I still have transient symptoms. The worst thing is that I enjoy all the higher histamine foods. I am following a lower carb diet. I tend to eat brassicae veg. Pea shoots are supposed to provide DAO.
I've seen some stuff about histamine and narcolepsy but don't really understand what its role is. I think it's some medication called Wakix or something like that. I have narcolepsy and never had any issues until I was given Depo Provera shot in my late twenties.

none. Just consume proper food. Don’t go down the supplement route when you can do it with food. High vitamin C leads to high oxalic acid formation. You need all nutrients for this, so just eat well. Get Cronometer and track your nutrition. Seriously.
Pumpkin seeds are considered high-histamine, unfortunately. If you want to go low histamine for a while to see if your symptoms improve, you’d want to cut these out. But it’s possible you might tolerate a smaller portion going forward, especially after some healing. Do you notice symptoms now after eating them?

Don’t avoid foods you don’t experience symptoms from. Don’t anticipate symptoms. Always try to reintroduce after a while. Don’t stay on avoidance diets indefinitely; your tolerance can improve drastically throughout time

I was a complete mess. I was reacting to everything from soap to every food. I went from itchy and eczema at 16, to mouth sores and constant burning, to anaphylactic at 50. At 55 I changed to a biological dentist who did s cone beam scan. She found my cause. A molars roots had grown into my sinus cavity when I was a young teen. It opened a channel between my mouth and my sinus cavity which was transferring everything I ate into my sinus cavity. My immune system was recognizing every thing as something to attack. Our teeth affect us and our health/bodies so much we don't understand to what extent. This is good confirmation of what I've been doing the past 3 years. I was taking allergy injections 3 years ago and had candida. My allergist suggested the candida diet. I started it using fermented foods. Went in for my allergy shots and immediately went into anaphylaxis. One of the nurses sent me a text suggesting histamine intolerance. So i started researching. Did a 3 day water fast and started adding histamine lowering foods. I felt better in a few days. Within 3 months i had lost a much needs 30 lbs and felt better than i could remember in years. I have recently been eating off diet slowly adding lbs and feeling the histamine rise.

Quercetin 1000mg three times daily along with vit C 3000mg daily REALLY helped decrease the mucus flow from my sinuses.
At the same time, I started taking methylated (REAL vitamins from healthfood store) B1, B2, B5, B6, B9, & B12, along with a methylated multi vitamin/mineral daily, Omega 3 one daily, Vit D3 (I found out I was very low so 10,000 IU daily for three months), K2 100mg daily, Ultra Mag 2 tablets daily, Glutathione 1000mg daily (helps the gut), Ashwaganha EP 35 one capsule daily & Rhodiola 200milligrams twice daily (because my cortisol was only up at night, keeping me awake), & a concentrated Curcumin one tablet three times daily (to kill the Candida).

It all began with allergies for me, but thanks to those like him on YT, I learned about it, cleaned up my gut, changed my diet. Struggled with scalp and beard eczema for years, never understood why. Over time I also started to get a runny nose whenever I ate, and heart palpitations at night (usually at 3 or 5 am, when the body tends to release a lot of histamines). Lastly, I even got an unbearably strong dust mite allergy from taking probiotics - because, as it turns out, some of the bacteria in common probiotics also produce histamines. Tested so many different hypotheses, supplements and treatments. Finally I understand it's histamines. Note: I don't react to all high histamine foods (e.g. canned tuna, apple cider vinegar, fresh milk), but all the foods that I do react to are high histamine (tomatoes, avocado, cured meat and leftover meats, yoghurt, etc.). So I guess there is individual variance. Plus my stomach feels uncomfortable from many other foods (apples, most types of bread) which I presume is due to SIBO.
Such a complicated mess. I enjoy the carnivore diet, but it's hard to follow, and gets even more difficult when I can't eat any leftovers and I can't be certain that the animal I'm eating hasn't spent a few days in the Supermarket cooler already.
About leftovers. Freeze as quickly as possible after making a meal. Freezing stops the production of histamine. I will freeze the meat part of the meal and have at a later time. Beef is difficult because it is hung for several days after slaughter allowing the histamine to rise. I will buy a piece of Beef, bring it home and mince it as soon as possible, and freeze in 500g quantities. It works for me. Lamb is better as it is not hung but it is still a matter of getting it into the freezer as soon as possible. Fresh caught and snap frozen fish seems OK. Fish starts to develop histamine within an hour of being caught. The same with chicken. I will buy a fresh roasted chicken, strip it and freeze the meat immediately. The bones go straight into the freezer to make chicken broth later, which is immediately frozen. I make my own hamburger patties. And freeze immediately. It seems a lot of work but after a while it becomes second nature. Dr Beth O'Hara's website is brilliant for it's information. I've only just found this one. I've let myself slip and am now paying for it, so back l go onto the stricter diet. Also l found low histamine probiotices very good. Hope all this helps.

Makes sense how it’s tied to estrogen. I never had any histamine or allergy type symptoms until I hit around 36 years of age. Now I’m realizing at almost 42 that I am definitely in perimenopause and likely have been for a few years now. Plus my histamine issues tend to get worse right before my period.

yep, same with me. I am 52 and my histamine issues are worse than ever now that I am in my perimenopause.
I left western medicine and all it's addictive and deadly drugs seven years ago. Ever since I stopped taking all the SNRI's Adderll, opiates, benzos, etc. I haven't had allergies. I'm no longer allergic to my cat. My critical thinking came back, and I've found nature/God's way of dealing with my problems. It was definitely the change I needed. At 65 I am now inflammation free, as that is the first thing that went away when I quit those doctors and drugs.

First of all be confident that you will get better . This can take time but it's worth the effort when you start to feel better. I've had IBS for a long time but I was able to control it with eliminating gluten, Dairy and most cheeses from my diet I followed the FODMAP diet for quite a few years one mistake that I realize now is that eliminating all these foods for so long was probably not a good idea. I was also taking Pepcid which was increased up to 80 mg per day find my Digestive Healthcare Medical dr. What a mistake taking all that medication back in December I got sibo. It was diagnosed through a breath test and I was given xifaxan which I needed two rounds of the prescription in order to minimize some of my symptoms. I also started to use Visbiome which my medical doctor recommended as a well researched lacto/bifido probiotic supplement. That is when I fortunately found Dr, Ruscios videos. from him I learned about the Monash University FODMAP app. Even though I was following the FODMAP diet I was not controlling the portions and therefore was getting too much of low FODMAP foods that I liked. I started to follow the recommended portion sizes in the diet which I was able to see on the app. This made a big difference! I continued this way and did really well for a few months. But in the summer I was back to having bloating and gas I decided to have a stool analysis done through Valley integrative Pharmacy which you will find online but I live very close to where they are located. The test was sent to me at home and was called the gut zoomer. The test identified that I was not digesting fats and my body was low on short chain fatty acids it was recommended that I take a digestive enzyme as well as a few other supplements that would help me to improve digestion and increase short chain fatty acids in my body. The digestive enzyme was the key to enabling me to eat the foods that would help me to improve my microbiome. I am making a shake every day with lactose free Kiefer, blueberries, green banana flour or green banana, as well as the supplements that I was given through the pharmacy. With the digestive enzyme I am able to eat foods that are outside of the FODMAP diet. I am introducing them slowly I just cannot believe how the digestive enzyme has helped me so much with the bloating and help to regulate my stools. I've also been able to start taking Dr Ruscios soil-based probiotics without a reaction I also exercise and try to get a lot of sleep. PVCs are due to bloating putting pressure on your vagus nerve and related nerves around your heart. That’s why people get them after eating fermentable carbohydrates and in certain positions such as lying down or squatting. Histamine causes tachycardia.

Love this, you give me so much hope as someone who has been going through 'prednisone/ topical steroid withdrawal'. My doctor checked my histamine levels and they were 140, over double what they should be. I got them down to 70 but now I have stopped doing what he said and I am sure I am back up again. I eat an avocado every day along with sauerkraut. I eat sardines for breakfast. I have an irregular and racing heart at times, and neuropathy on my feet legs, and arms. Low thyroid will give you histamine intolerance i.e. mast cell activation is increased in those with hypothyroidism. I started taking levothyroxine and stopped needing anti-histamines and the DAO pills - except the anti-histamine occasionally when I've been stressed out and inflammation increases throughout.

Yup. Been dealing with this crap for 5 years. It’s awful and mentally exhausting. It started while I was wfpb and just got worse. It got so bad that I could barely eat anything. So I reluctantly went carnivore due to lack of any other options. I had no idea what was happening nor did my doctors. All I knew is that within months I was almost completely better. Once I felt better I started adding plant foods back in and eventually started getting sick again. So I went on a gut healthy routine that included all the fermented foods and all that jazz. It wrecked me . It was just last year that the answer was revealed to me. Literally the day after I broke down and just asked for an answer. I stumbled upon a video on histamine issue. Now that I have an answer as to why I’m having problems, I’m trying to find a way to heal this. I’m extremely better than I was but I have flares where I’ll go months with issues and then they just go away.

It’s not histamine intolerance because meat is drastically much higher in histamine and other biogenic amines than plants. It’s probably a food reaction which involves mast cells which release histamine, or Klebsiella aerogenes producing a tremendous amount of histamine, and not dietary histamine, which is what is bothering you.
Did you have food poisoning before the symptoms started by any chance?

I’m so sorry you’ve been dealing with this. Happy if the info we present helps at all. Going low histamine could have an impact on those symptoms for sure. UC can be caused by autoimmunity, which is sometimes tied up with histamine issues - some food for thought. As far as testing, it depends on what you’re looking for. Some people use GI map, but often it’s sufficient to treat based on symptoms rather than having a composite of the organisms there.

I love the video, but I highly disagree with your food list; milk is very low histamine, vegetables are low, and protein sources are very high; proteins are built of chains of amino acids, of which one is histidine, and when they undergo the slightest bacterial decomposition (which happens to any meat because meat is almost always hung for a while), it’s inevitable, because hhere are always some bacteria on there which produce histidine decarboxylase which turns histidine into histamine. Cooking meat also decarboxylates it. Pork is the worst. Some fish are as well, depending on how they were stored. Raw milk is extremely high as well, unlike pasteurized milk. Some fermented things have micro organisms which break down histamine, so sometimes, paradoxically, aged foods are low histamine where you would expect them to be high. It depends highly on storage, the microbiome on the food and more. The most common offenders are vacuum stored red meat like pork, ground meats, homemade fermented products, probiotics and tomato sauce. I’ve been in the fora and delved very deep into this stuff myself, and it’s extremely variable so I think there is a large component of local mast cell reactivity to it as well. Also, almost all of the sufferers have some sort of health anxiety, hypervigilance/hypersympathetic activation/hyperarousal syndrome and gut problems. Which one was first; the chicken or the egg? It’s unclear, but I’ve seen some recover completely by means of focusinc on calming their nervous system/limbic system and having them relearn how to feel safe.
I’m trying this but I’ve plateaud, so I don’t think nervous system work is everything. I also believe dysbiosis to be a great part of it. In my case I developed it after a series of food poisoning, the last one making it worse than ever imaginable with toxoplasmosis (unicellular paradite) and campylobacter jejuni. It led to these symptoms as well as severe abdominal distention. 4 rounds of rifaximin later and my bloating is gone, but the histamine intolerance with severe cholinergic itch/pruritus is still debilitating and as a 26 year old I’m still not good enough to go back to work again.
I'd like the home test info, please. Guess I've had mild HI "forever", mostly hay fever, but full-blown after "the virus". I manage with pretty low hist near carnivore diet, some AH, sime DAO. like to tune in even better.
I have all those symptoms. I take antihistamines every day or I'll get hives. I take famotidine which helps acid reflux. I need to follow the diet, but I just can't seem to stick to it. Of course, the high histamine foods are my favorite foods. The body systems chart showing the different areas affected by different receptors mentions muscle cells - is that why all my muscles are tender or is that a different problem? I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I haven't seen muscle soreness discussed in relation to histamine. I discovered I had histamine intolerance when I did genetic testing, and it showed I was prone to it because I did not produce enough DAO. I looked it up, and sure enough I had every symptom. I had another testing in the doctor's office which suggested gluten intolerance. I had complete allergy testing twice and was negative. Now if I can just give up all my favorite foods. One of the worst episodes of gastric distress I ever had was after eating monkey bread. Not only is it very high in gluten, it's also high in histamine.

If you hve EDS it affects the gut. The gut lining is made up largely of collagen, eds = faulty collagen. Mast cells are everywhere we have connective tissue, thus it can effect various body systems & organs. The mcas has its own pain that exacerbates the eds pain. Fibro is basically a misdiagnosis for eds
What about yeast in general and nutritional yeast in particular? Should they be avoided if you suspect histamine intolerance? And in addition to that: what's your opinion on yeast consumption for people who have tested positive for ASCA, yet don't have Crohn's symptoms as of now? Your answer will be greatly appreciated. Yeast doesn’t contain histamine per se but can sometimes catalyze histamine production. It’s tricky, because we know some yeasts, like s boulardii, to be generally beneficial to gut health - but it’s not the right fit for everyone

It’s not. I had OAS and I induced oral tolerance by gradually consuming more and more of the foods that cause itching. I couldn’t eat apples, cherries, pears, apricots, peaches, jackfruit, macadamia and more nuts without lots of oral itching (NO SWELLING; IF YOU HAVE SWELLING DON’T FOLLOW MY ADVICE BECAUSE IN THIS CASE IT IS A BONIFIED ALLERGY). I can now eat all without any symptoms. Again, start with very small pieces daily, then increase the size. It happens very rapidly, in less than a month. Just make sure you’re not anxious when doing it, be open minded and accepting of symptoms, and have someone near you. Good luck

But it really works but only for oral allergy syndrome. my neighbor tried this too and he can now eat apples again at age 50, having avoided it for decades. It’s due to molecular mimicry, I think. Just do it slowly and don’t fear it. I would be careful with the foods you mentioned which affect your eyes as well. But still worth a try.

Interesting. I personally seem to be okay with some high histamine foods. Like you said, may be dose dependent. Some probiotics give me headache. Not sure why. Cutting high oxalate foods from my diet has been very helpful for me overall :).

Me with MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome) watching lol I’m on the protocol but my GI hates me still. My protocol is Zyrtec every single day 80 mg of fat every single day and singular every day. It is not cool when I have break through hives or issues but so long as I steer clear of milk and other allergens it is ok. Only time it gets super worse is during pregnancy. That’s when the eczema really gets bad and the other breakthrough allergy stuff like stomach issues and stuff. Thanks to that’s and EDS. I had its since I was 5. It’s a battle to behave but not starve from behaving. On and off fodmaps diet has helped. I appreciate and need this info!!

I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome diagnosed and suspected mast cell activation syndrome, and recently I have started using Low Dose Naltrexone, which is used in low dosage for pain management and auto immune disorders as opposed to the normal dose for alcohol and opiod use disorder. Do you think mentality creates such things? All illnesses sound the same to me, even immune disorders. I always wonder if there is a root cause. I hear a lot of brain gut connection, usually used in what you eat but what about what you think? Which leads to you sending signals to what you eat as it goes down. I'm always curious to why people can eat and drink whatever they want and live successful lives yet I'm over here cutting everything out and still my mind is always on why am I sick. I exercise, eat mostly whole foods, take my probiotics and vitamins, cut out alcohol years ago, yet still 12 years and working on my digestion. Doctors haven't found nothing wrong with me.
Have you tried a low fodmap diet for a short period of time to check of you feel better? I was vegan for a couple of years and eating healthy was not helping me.

The gut-brain connection is very real. The gut has one of the largest concentrations of neurons in the body! It’s very intertwined with our nerves.
That said, just because they haven’t found something “wrong” with you doesn’t mean your symptoms aren’t real or that you aren’t sick. For functional disorders (nerve-related), conventional GIs usually prescribe meds like nortriptyline to re-regulate the nerves. Have you tried a medication like that?
Beyond that, you could be dealing with inflammation, and diet can help. I know that’s frustrating to hear, especially if you’ve been taking care to do the right things, but you might have an intolerance, dysbiosis, or another problem where even healthy, clean foods can trigger symptoms. If you haven’t tried low fodmap or paleo, might be worth a go
@@DrRuscioDC I haven't tried any medication but something that calms the nerves I would definitely think would help as mine always seem to be on fire. I suppose I will try the low fodmap diet.
Tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, nortriptyline, etc) in low dose are used for that type of stuff, but if you notice you have an anxiety or stress disorder, I would rather work on that with cognitive behavior therapy with the help of a therapist to actually target the root cause; chronic sympathetic activation leads to chronic CRH secretion in the HPA axis which leads to mast cell activation, also it leads to intestinal barrier dysfunction and more. The nervous system is the internet of your body. It regulates EVERYTHING. Learn to recondition your body by having positive experiences and having it feel safe again.

Neural pain can be caused by eds, which is a comorbidity of mcas. Those with histamine intolerance can have mcas. This can also be caused by blood pooling from dysautonomia

I developed severe TMJ that made me unable to function. I began taking OTC 200mg Ibuprofen one to two times per day with the blessings of my PCP. After 4-5 years of this I got SLE and discoid. I need to repair my gut (have had IBS for years) but am unsure what probiotics to take. I have changed my diet. My health history very complicated but I am determined to improve my quality of life.

Anyone suffering with food related histamine issues take 1-2 DOA supplements before each low histamine meal. Take 2-4 before a higher histamine meal. This will help your body process the histamine out. Antihistamines only block your H1 receptor so the symptoms decrease but the histamine is still circulating in your body. A low histamine diet, adding in DOA with an antihistamine (you can take up to 4/day if needed) will give you your life back. Then work on fixing your gut. All products by seeking health are low histamine including their probiotics. The probiotic must be low histamine and most are not. I have mcas and I take dao, histdigest, thymus, h1 & h2, immune modulators, and dysbiocide for my IMO. When I wasn’t treating the IMO my symptoms were worse also.

I have been dealing with this for 10 years. Trying to figure out what the hell is going on. I break out in hives a day after alcohol with heart palpitations. Same hive with certain medications and NSAIDS. When taking a multivitamin my symptoms are not as bad. Lactose consumption issues. I have always felt better when eating better. I have been getting it seemingly randomly. I tried many different eye drops thinking it was dry eyes. I found that the condition responded well to antihistamine eyedrops.
Then I went down a rabbit hole and examined my diet. It's looking like aspartame from drink packets like crystal light was the major factor. Time will tell.

I agree! I am already a myope but I think it causes ciliary muscle spasm. Maybe it’s also because you stay more inside behind screens because you can’t enjoy your outdoors life as much. That’s an obvious alternative explanation.
No digestive symptoms here but there's for sure a histamine problem going on. I need Benadryl on my medical portable kit always because certain foods trigger allergic reaction like symptoms moderately some what frequently.

I was ordered to do a low fodmap diet by my doc and I will start in two days. my nutritionist said I could eat tomatoes while on the diet... I ate a lot of tomatoes today testing a recipe and now I have a horrible "rosacea". It looks horrible and I hadn't flared in a lot of time. Hello Doc currently trying to bring up bifido levels due to antibiotic use which resulted in a histamine intolerance. Currently taking HMOs. Is there any evidence that a symbiotic approach can actually populate the gut permanently? Don't want to end up just feeding the transient visitors. Thinking almost just prebiotics in a fasted state would be best. many thanks can't find any studies on this.
It is very hard to actually introduce new microbes in an already active microbiome other than by means of fecal microbiota transplant. Getting outside, foraging, touching animals, other healthy people, sharing food, kissing, etc might increase diversity without having to transplant poop, but that is not as reliable.

What is the protocol for taking DAO for someone who is Histamine Intolerant?
The thing is that these are foods that have a lot of nutritional value that shouldn't be discarded permanently. You need to work on a cure for your specific root cause of your histamine intolerance so you can eventually go back to eat them if you can do so . In the meantime, take DAO supplements to help you deal with it, like I do.
Not all foods that are high histamine give me a reaction. For the ones that do, I take DAO and very few I had to eliminate completely.
There just doesn't seem to be enough foods that are low in histamines. I believe I might have this, too, but I'm not sure what to do about it.
Struggled with skin rashes that go systemic and mystery allergy symptoms, and found I had one DAO genetic SNP. I've reduce various things out of my diet and take DAO supplement if I know I will have a higher histamine meal. An allergist could not confirm HIT, perhaps because I was doing okay managing it. I still have transient symptoms. The worst thing is that I enjoy all the higher histamine foods. I am following a lower carb diet. I tend to eat brassicae veg. Pea shoots are supposed to provide DAO.

I've seen some stuff about histamine and narcolepsy but don't really understand what its role is. I think it's some medication called Wakix or something like that. I have narcolepsy and never had any issues until I was given Depo Provera shot in my late twenties.

none. Just consume proper food. Don’t go down the supplement route when you can do it with food. High vitamin C leads to high oxalic acid formation. You need all nutrients for this, so just eat well. Get Cronometer and track your nutrition. Seriously.

Pumpkin seeds are considered high-histamine, unfortunately. If you want to go low histamine for a while to see if your symptoms improve, you’d want to cut these out. But it’s possible you might tolerate a smaller portion going forward, especially after some healing. Do you notice symptoms now after eating them?

Don’t avoid foods you don’t experience symptoms from. Don’t anticipate symptoms. Always try to reintroduce after a while. Don’t stay on avoidance diets indefinitely; your tolerance can improve drastically throughout time

Hay fever is an allergy. Allergies involve mast cells. Mast cells release histamine. Is allergy the chicken or the egg? Is it a vicious cycle? No one knows. All we know is that you should tackle every part of your health. Low stress, good sleep, proper nutrition from whole foods, healthy microbiome, good air quality, low toxic exposure.

Drink the whole bottle of plain kefier a day for seven day with K2 and take a lot of Omega 3 and berberine
